I don’t blame a guy for wanting out of a situation that includes Thames, Aguilar and Braun all at one position. It’s business. I would love for some dumb team to think Aguilar is a .900 OPS player and e sell high on him as Thames returns though.
Everybody regresses to the mean. A $90M payroll is what it is, no matter if they overachieve for a few months. See 2012, 2017, etc. We all know what it will look like come September 1 and September 28. I guess you should just stop watching then. Team has no chance. They’re done before it starts.
I think he stands pat with Nelson coming back. I think he believes in the guys he's got right now to get the job done and won't want to give up more assets. I could be wrong but I think we over-do it a bit with undervaluing our own. I'll just say I want to have sustained success. Not just a 1-2 year window because we had a hot May in year two of a rebuild.
Slides within reach of the base really opens that up though. I get that you may want to be mad but it is not as clear cut as you want to make it. Nor is this the first take out slide at home plate.
Simple fix. MLB makes a rule that there are no takeout slides at home plate anymore. Or if you are out on force, you must slide directly into the plate. I'm not upset at Rizzo for what he did because it is something I've seen many times as you are expected to take away the double play if you can.
