  1. I watched about 10 plays total of the Vikings-Steelers game and in those few plays, I saw him bat down a ball and get heavy pressure on the QB two other plays. I also saw him standing on the sideline during one series of Vikings offense, wasn't sure if he got hurt or not.
  2. Thank you for posting those. Boy does he just destroy some pitches. He needs to do a better job at his pitch selection these last 12 games and we'll be in the playoffs.
  3. He really hasn't been injured all too often when you think about it. Yeah, he missed a bit this season and in 2013 but every other season he has played 135 games or more. He has been banged up but still has managed to play quite a bit over his career.
  4. No major league player is laying down. Their salary depends on it too much. Is there a handful of guys on lousy teams that already have made their cash and might not be intense as if they were in a postseason push? I could buy that.
  5. Why is he our #3 hitter for the foreseeable future? Over the course of the next couple seasons, if there are better options Braun can be moved down the line-up no? As far as this season, no it's not a season from a "special" player. But still productive enough numbers that he's certainly not hurting the line-up. In fact, if he could produce those type numbers for the next 3 years, I would be thrilled. He will be penciled in there at #3, (maybe #2 depending on other players performances I suppose) until he can no longer do it. I'm not saying I totally agree with it but a guy like Counsell won't move him unless the wheels completely fall off. And from looking at the stats, it doesn't seem to be even near that direction yet.
  6. We might be at that point of the season where you 'dance with the one that brought us' to this point of the season. These guys are fired up and seem to all be doing whatever they can to win each game. Let me try to finish this sucker and get us into the playoffs. An example was Suter last night. That dude was gassed after three (my perspective) and he gave us two more innings of shutout baseball. Let these guys leave it all out there and if it is good enough, what a great story for Brewers baseball.
  7. So from the sounds of it, we would be tossing money at an at best, average pitcher. No thanks. I'll take my chances with the guys we have in-house rather than tossing money at a guy that could very well pitch like Garza. We've done this route too many times now.
  8. He is hitting a homer every 22 plate appearances this season which is a little more than his career pace (20.5) and a lot more than a season ago (18.8) but better than his rate two seasons ago (22.7). So that kind of is all over the place and the 18.8 probably is more in line with being pretty healthy all season long. He also finished 23rd in the MVP race a season ago. That shouldn't be tossed out since there are only 30 teams. Not every team has him.
  9. We've discussed it a few times in the game threads whether or not Braun was a "special" hitter anymore. I just thought it was an interesting discussion point because he is out 3-hitter for the foreseeable future and he is owed a good chunk of our payroll for the next few years. So far this season his slash line is .275/.346/.512/.858 which doesn't scream elite but he does carry a .295 BABIP which is 37 points lower than his career average (.332). This is a pretty low number. The lowest of his career. Some of us have noted his bad luck and it shows up in that stat. This one shocked me because it seems as though he chases a bit but his BB%(9.6%) is the highest since 2013 and a full 1% above his career average. His contact rate is the same exact number this season as his career average so that's not an issue either. Just some interesting numbers for him. He also seems to be healthy again. He has played 53 of 59 games (146 game pace over a full season) since the all-star break and looks to play over 100 games this season (which at one point did not look like there was a chance). Just thought it was nice to see some numbers that seem to be trending towards the positive. Now he could slump the last 10 games and finish with an OPS about .800 or he could get red hot and finish over .900 and push us into the postseason. Either way, sometimes the numbers just continue to add up for special players. Consistency is the key and when healthy, that is a great way to describe Braun.
  10. Yep, he's started 14 games in 28 days. After putting up an .800 OPS in August, he's ridden the pine in favor of Jonathan Villar and Hernan Perez. I just can't fathom that. Ending the month of August 1 for 12 with 0 walks doesn't help his case. He's been streaky too many times to trust him in this playoff push and it feels as though Counsell realizes that. He also hasn't had an extra base hit since Aug 18th. Using him against lefties strickly is probably the way to go with him.
  11. 2nd Half: Villar- .292/.315/.425/.740 (10XBH, 7 SB) *125 PA Broxton- .214/.298/.381/.679 (9XBH, 2 SB) *142 PA Perez- .263/.288/.391/.679 (9XBH, 5 SB) *141 PA Last 28 Days: Villar- .400/.417/.629/1.045 (4 XBH, 1 SB) *37 PA Broxton- .189/.271/.208/.479 (1 XBH, 1 SB) *59 PA Perez- .296/.339/.426/.765 (3 XBH, 2 SB) *60 PA
  12. True but good teams like the Dodgers and Nationals basically laid down for us as well. No. No, they didn't.
  13. Bullpen situation has changed completely with the acquisitions of Jeffress and Swarzak along with the callup of Hader. Early in the season with Feliz and having to use guys like Torres, Hughes, Drake and Barnes in late inning situations was rough. Nothing can take back those losses earlier in the season by our bullpen. Stearns whiffed on preseason pen. He's hit on some mid season moves that have rejuvenated this pen into a pretty darn good one. It's made a big difference.
  14. Broxton has done some good things but his streaks kill a lineup. Play him vs most lefties and move on from him in the offseason. He just doesn't get on base enough. And so far Phillips has looked like the better defender. A game like tonight could've been justified to have Broxton over Perez though if Santana couldn't play. He's actually been a lot more consistent since his late July stint in Colorado Springs. Looking at his game logs not a single slump longer than 8 plate appearances in a row without a hit. Weirdly he's pretty much been the opposite of his first half. Almost no hot or cold streaks. Plenty of 1 for 2, 1 for 3, 1 for 4 nights. Consistently not on base enough. No matter how you carve up the numbers, they're not great. His last 28 day stat line: .189/.271/.208/.479 Yikes. If he truly was treated like Villar I can't imagine what some would be saying.

  16. Santana could've booted that ball around out there. Diaz playing for the stats maybe.
  17. What happened? Just smoked a ball right at the 3B is all.
  18. There's the Braun luck I've come accustomed too. Crap.
  19. Our 3-headed monster at 2B just played us a run.
  20. Villar with double #18. Pretty good considering.
  21. There's nothing I didn't like, just nothing that stood out about it to me either. It deserves credit for the setting, it's a great view. I guess it's just that without the view, it's just a ballpark. And if we're factoring in the setting in general, the area and atmosphere around the park was pretty dead when we went. No ill will towards the park, I don't dislike it, just other parks I'd put above it on my list. I was just curious as I've always wanted to road trip it out that way someday.
  22. That OPS is heading north boys, 1-0!! Thatta way Braunie!
  23. Listen, playing a hot hand is one thing but sitting one out best hitters to do so in a playoff push is ridiculous. It's not calling Counsell the worst manager or anything close to it. It's simply questioning his decision and for good reason. Heck, maybe Santana is hurt and we just don't know. But god forbid we question it.
  24. Santana not playing is getting absolutely ridiculous.
