    Thinking about this more, with the timing of this announcement, why not just retire now? Feels as though his hearts not there and if it isn't, he hasn't put in the work the off season to give himself the best chance to stay healthy.

    I'm glad MA is a well known guy out there and seems to have a good track record with players. Maybe at times it'll back fire and he'll sign a dud, but all GM's do that anyways. It's good to hear our owner is trying like hell to win.

    The thing is that at a point you're not improving your team, you're just wasting money through salaries and through having guys who could perform but aren't given the chance. The Brewers aren't exactly strict adherents to the notion of competing for jobs. I don't mind Krod, but at 1/5 or so, if he falters and there are guys behind him doing better, he steps aside. Now he's moved into the contract plays territory. They didn't need to add a "closer." Maybe Melvin or Attanasio or others in the FO felt the need or they wouldn't have been the ONLY team to show serious interest in Papelbon. Maybe they didn't need to add them but that philosophy is a different approach then what MA and DM and probably RR want to have. Maybe this gives Krod a longer leash because of his salary but it would also have to do with his recent success as a closer. I'm on the side that doesn't believe everyone can pitch in the 9th inning. Those outs are harder to get and with that comes a price. I sure as heck am glad we will have a lot of guys capable of getting outs late in games. It's been since 2011 since we have had those type of guys and hey, we got pretty close that year. Krod obviously was a turd off the field but if I were to judge each player on their morals, I might as well not watch any games. Krod will have his ups and downs, like the majority of closers, but in the end, he probably will have 35-40 saves and pitch pretty well.

    His HR/9 the last 3 years is 1, 1.4, and 1.9. I highly doubt it will all of a sudden be under 1. Be prepared to watch HR's Very well could happen. But maybe he makes an adjustment in his approach as well. He already reinvented himself once.

    Ramirez slugged .376 from July 1 on last year and only walked 10 times in that stretch. I'm in the camp that he slumped badly in large part because he's hit the wall. I expect a major dip not a minor one. Very well could be right. I'm just in the camp of he had a lot of leg injuries that hindered his performance. My faith is in it that he worked his tail off in the off season to get in the best shape possible to continue his career. If he didn't, it will show up right away and no one will be signing him a year from now.

    Rooting for the Marlins on this one! Depends on the deal for me. If it happens to be a one year deal $5mil or less, I'm totally on board. If anything greater than that... no thanks.

    Do either Kintzler or Wooten have options? Or is Chris Perez really a lock? I am really pulling for Willis to be included in our pen. Either as a long man or as a "loogy" because after reading his interview yesterday (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/293493901.html), I think it would be really great to have him be a mentor for some of the younger arms we have.

    Here is the thing I am not quite getting. If this kid is supposed to be the next big thing, prospect wise, then why were only three teams trying to sign him?

    With the suggestion of Braun hitting leadoff I just wanted to look at the numbers a little closer. If getting on base is the main thing you want, then Lind is you guy. I get that getting on base is the most important thing to do but I still am a believer in there needs to be a core of guys 3-5 that are able to knock in runs. I believe Gomez is one of those guys along with Braun and Lind. Lineup with AVG's of Last Two Seasons Combined Gennett (.331obp/.449slg) Lucroy (.357obp/.460slg) Braun (.348obp/.476slg *I'm a believe that these will increase with health) Gomez (his #'s the last two season are incredible. .347 obp/.492 slg) Lind (.369obp/.488slg *yes those numbers are correct, he can hit!) Aram (.350obp/.444 slg *numbers are close to what we may expect, maybe a minor dip) Davis (.311obp/.487slg *hopefully a slight increase in OBP at least) Segura (.309obp/.375slg *ick, just ick. Please Sardinias, be good)

    Anyone know where that puts his total contract at? I kept hearing it'd cost a team somewhere between $80-$100 million to get him.

    I believe there is but didn't they sell out to Miller? I'm not sure.

    That would be fun. But probably never going to happen at a place named "Miller Park." I would think there has to be a way of getting around such a thing. I know they already have a craft beer station set up. Not sure if they are affiliated with Miller or not.

    I think a fun night would craft beer night. Invite all of them and have stations set up through the concourse. Sort of like a taste test type of thing.

    Since Melvin became GM of the Brewers there have been SEVEN organizations to win the word series in his 12 seasons as our GM: 1. SF (3) 2. BOS (3) 3. STL (2) 4. PHI (1) 5. NYY (1) 6. CWS (1) 7. FL (1) Only one of these teams, Florida, could compare with the Brewers organization. Melvin has done a very nice job for us. He brought us back to the post season. He brought us to within two games of the world series. He has helped keep us relevant in the majority of the time he has been our GM. People expecting World Series out of this organization are dreaming. The occasional good team we put together needs a ton of breaks to get there and even then, it's not a for sure. Our organization in the same breath as SF, BOS, STL, PHI, NYY, CWS? Give me a break. Baseball is rigged for the more well off teams to compete for the prize. Until that changes, I'll be happy with what Melvin has done for Milwaukee.

    Anyone have any luck talking Directv down in price? Right now it is listed at $195 for both extra innings and you get mlbtv with it.
