  1. Boy, I just wonder who this debate is over... it'd be interesting to know.
  2. Love it. Another guy that who knows, could return to form. Or he sucks and we cut bait. Nice job Doug.
  3. No thanks. Luc will do just fine vs. lefties since there are not that many of them to face.
  4. Seems like nothing is out there in terms of any team being the front runner.
  5. I'd just bring back Uecker to do Miller Lite commercials using Brewers references/players. That'd be enough for me.
  6. Oh boy what a lineup when your cleanup hitter is coming off a year where he hit 15 HR (4 from July 1st on) and drove in 66 runs (26 from July 1 on). That kind of production screams cleanup hitter. Not. I will say Ramirez is getting paid like a cleanup hitter, but I'm not real confident he can produce like one any more. I would love to depend on Gennett, Lucroy, Braun, Lind and Gomez as our "heart" of the order and have them deliver because I still feel Aram has something in the tank and out of the 6 hole, he could be really productive for us. A guy that hits .280-.300 batting 6th? I'll take that any day.
  7. Until Thorny can get his ball to cut or move, I really do not want to see him starting for us. The second or third time through the order, he'll get swatted around.
  8. Vs. RHP 1. Gennett 2. Lucroy 3. Braun 4. Lind 5. Gomez 6. Aram 7. Davis (Parra at times) 8. Segura Vs. LHP 1. Gennett 2. Lucroy 3. Braun 4. Gomez 5. Aram 6. Davis 7. Maldonado 8. Segura (Gomez at times)
  9. As much as I would've liked to see this as a 1yr/$2M signing, meh oh well. Like the K rate he posted last season but needs to get the ball on the ground more. Really hoping for the Papelbon trade now and this pen (if used properly) could be deadly.
  10. Nice signing. Adding Papelbon now is just shortening the game. Could have a deadly pen! Lots of options.
  11. I'd be ok with it. The lefty specialist is stupid to me. If you can't pitch vs. both hands, go pitch in independent ball or something.
  12. What is the reasoning that the MLB just does not put these players in the upcoming draft in June? There should be a date they must declare and then they can be eligible for the draft, just like the other players. Now if they want to put an age limit on that, lets say 24-25 years old, and after that date they can come here and be free agents, fine. But the point made about this kid just being handed a ton of cash when never have proven that he's even good, is crazy.
  13. If Henderson's healthy, I don't see a reason to overspend to bring K-Rod back or deal for Papelbon. I'd rather spend less and bring in Chamberlain as depth and at least see how Henderson looks in Arizona. If it doesn't look like he'll make it back, go back to Philly and reopen talks with them. The problem with this thinking is that we truly do not know how good or if Henderson will be healthy enough to start the season. Then you get into the questions of will he come back effective? Too many questions surround this for Melvin to not go after another "closer" type guys like Soriano, Krod, or Papelbon. If he sat and did nothing, then Henderson stinks and Broxton doesn't get the job done, people will say Melvin did not do enough for this team. The more high leverage guys we have, the better off we will be this season.
  14. This is one of the best posts I have ever read on this forum. It is completely absurd like you said and I agree with every statement you just wrote.
  15. It just doesn't sound feasible for the Brewers to sign this guy. Now, if we had Dodger or Yankee money, then I could see taking a stab at the "next great thing." But I just cannot see the Brewers sinking a bunch of money into such an unproven guy. We need to draft and develop talent, bring them up and have success and then sign them like we did with Luc and Braun. Then you can mix in some of the "past their prime" free agents like Aram and compete.
  16. You're correct. But I wasn't on board with giving him anything more than 2 years (not that he'd accept that). I am just pointing out how much better Shields is compared to Garza for the past 9 seasons. And to put Fiers name with Shields? Lol. Come on. Now, Fiers might come out and pitch awesome this season but to take away what Shields has been for the past 9 seasons is wrong.
  17. You don't honestly believe this do you? While I am not on board with signing Shields really, he is far superior to those two you mentioned, especially Fiers. What a slap in the face to a guy that all he does is put up 3.5 ERA's and over 200+ innings each year in the American League since 2007. They aren't as different as you think they are. That's what I mean by the "name" of Shields. Garza is more volatile, and Fiers is more unproven. Shields is definitely the pedigree and a better pitcher, but it's not by that much. Garza's 9 years in league - 3.81 ERA / 107 ERA+ / 3.93 FIP / 1.27 WHIP / 7.5 K/9 / 16 WAR Shields's 9 years in league - 3.72 ERA / 111 ERA+ / 3.77 FIP / 1.22 WHIP / 7.7K/9 / 27 WAR Shields played on a largely competitive TB squad, while Garza spent years on a crappy Cubs squad. Shields has also been utterly terrible in the playoffs too his past 35 innings. When you are talking on average of getting 60+ more innings per year from your pitcher, it makes a HUGE difference. Shields- 1910 innings in those 9 seasons (212 innings per year) Garza- 1345 innings in those 9 seasons (150 innings per year) Shields all day, every day. This is where stats mislead you to believe Garza is in Shields league for the past nine seasons.

  19. I guess I didn't realize Peralta is a front line starter. Here's how he ranked in just the NL: ERA- 22 IP- 19 WHIP- 33 HR/9- 31 BB/9- 26 K/9- 24 ERA+- 19 While I enjoy Peralta and feel he has a ton of potential, he needs to take a big step this season to be a "front line" starter.
  20. If he needs 3 seasons to collect 156 hits, he should retire now.
  21. I would sign him to a 2yr/$32M if it meant we were trading Garza tomorrow. Then I get a promise from DM that we get Zimmerman in the off-season and look like this: 2014: 1. Lohse 2. Shields 3. Peralta 4. Fiers 5. Nelson (Jungmann) 2015: 1. Zimmerman 2. Shields 3. Peralta 4. Nelson 5. Fiers or Jungmann
  22. If I'm reading you correctly, that's .61 WHIP. Is that not a great thing? Yeah, giving up a bunch of HRs in the 2nd half isn't but that's a different discussion. No, WHIP goes by innings. I'm not sure where Bombers got his stats but Krod had a .985 WHIP last year which is amazing considering giving up the 14 homeruns.
  23. I heard you just have to swing harder so you hit the ball harder and earlier too, so you make sure to pull it. That will beat the shift every time!
  24. Boras annually sets his price tag in the class of premier closers. That limits his market considerably. All the teams that can afford to pay premier closers likely have one that they perceive as better. The small market teams that could use a closer would rather roll the dice on a young, cheap alternative. Brewers will probably get him in that $5-6 million range with an incentive or two for games finished. I would have preferred Joba for around $3.5 million myself. Now they have a quite expensive back end and what do you do with Henderson if he's healthy? The conspiracy theorist in me says Krod wants to be a Brewer so he just waits for Melvin's phone call each year.
  25. Once or if he proves to be healthy I would have him pitching the 7th. 7th - Henderson 8th - Broxton 9th - K-Rod With Smith being used as a late inning, situational lefty would be a solid back end of the bullpen. Plus Jeffress and a situational Smith and we have ourselves a pretty good bullpen if they pitch up to their potential. And if Kintzler can give us what he did the year before last, we have ourselves some pretty dependable guys. Now, getting the ball to them with a lead... that's the first step.
