  1. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/01/brewers-talking-with-francisco-rodriguez.html Brewers in talks with Krod. Must mean that Papelbon fell through. Well, it's another high leverage situation arm that could help this ball club. Hopefully it's at a good price if it happens.
  2. Both Henderson and Thornburg said they'll be ready to go for spring training. Both seem ahead of the curve. Very good news.
  3. OK, that makes more sense. I agree I wouldn't want K-Rod slotted into the closer role. Broxton makes more sense at this point. I wish there wouldn't be any designated "closer role", or "setup man", but that isn't going to happen under the current regime. I agree with the designation of roles is silly to me as well. I say sign Krod and Joba and now you have a bunch of guys (Krod, Joba, Smith, Broxton, Henderson) who can pitch innings 7-9 and you can just go based on matchups. Like you said though, it's just not happening.
  4. Again, I don't get the hate. He has been very reliable for us the past several seasons. I can get the home run rate being a concern, though. Sounding more and more like the Papelbon trade is off. Haudricourt just tweeted a comment from Melvin that said, "Whatever traction there was seems to have dissipated." Melvin might just be playing it cool, but for some reason I get the sense that the salary is too big an obstacle right now. I have no hate for him at all. I actually enjoyed him for the most part. I just do not want him as our closer with the homeruns rate going up each of the last two seasons. Now if they got a guy like Papelbon and then signed Krod to be the 7-8th inning guy, then fine. The more high leverage guys the better.
  5. The Cubs won't win 80 games...
  6. I can see this one falling through in a hurry now that he said he'll waive his no trade clause if we make his option vest.
  7. The more I've looked through his stats, the more I'd really like to have him. He could really take the weight off of Henderson/Thornburg trying to return from serious injuries along with moving Broxton down a slot to pair him with Smith as the "8th inning men."
  8. This is the scary part of this trade. If we have to do this, we ask for more money from the Phils. But in doing so, maybe we give up a better prospect for him. Hopefully this works out...
  9. does everyone forget that the brewers were picked 4th by everyone and was in 1st place through most of the season last year? The cubs and cards may be improved, and I wouldn't predict them to make the playoffs, but I am not going into the season already giving up. Now I feel bad that I didn't watch any of the Brewers' playoff games last season. Oh, wait... I apologize for apparently crushing the hopes and dreams of the forum, I should have phrased it as "In the event that the Brewers aren't in playoff contention next season,..." Baseball season must suck for you never even thinking your team has a chance. There's always a chance. Especially when you have an owner who refuses to let his team not be in the mix. We may want to build for the future but for MA, the future is now. And in some ways, I really like that idea.
  10. Why even play the season then?... I mean come on. This team, with a few breaks here and there (which every team needs), adding a few quality pieces, and getting hot at the right time (again, every team needs this) can make the playoffs this season. Sick of the DebbieDowner attitude. This team can contend like many other teams in the NL.
  11. I actually view this as a point of strength vs. RHP. How? He might be our best stick vs. Righties...
  12. Lind hitting 7th? What a waste.
  13. Melvin said today that they won't be adding a starter like Shields but are looking at another reliever or two. The article mentions Krod and Soriano. Really wish Joba was in the mix.
  14. What makes me optimistic is how he pitched until he hit his innings mark from the year before. Remember how Fiers flamed out at the end of his season, it happened with Nelson too. In the MLB his first 7 starts were in his innings of the previous season here is his stat line: 7 Starts (2-3), 42IP (6 innings per/start), 18 ER, 34 K, 11BB, 42 H or 3.86 ERA/1.261 WHIP
  15. And/or maybe Jungmann is the real deal and we can move Garza for prospects, re-tooling the farm system once again.
  16. I'll wait to see what they do in the show before I crown them anything. Rizzo is the only somewhat proven one so far.
  17. I want Joba, bad. He could make a big difference. A ground baller in our park would be huge.
  18. Diplan will be a fun guy to keep track of. Please let him be the next big thing. The Brewers could use a break with something like that.
  19. So in other words Shields will be signed in the next 24 hours. DM is very hard to read, so there's just as good a chance he's misleading as there is he's telling the truth. Haha good point... Man I would really love this to be true. Shields is no ACE. And already 33, no thank you to paying a guy on the back end of his career. If anything, go get Zimmerman. He's 5 years younger and has been even better. I'll pay him for the next 5-7 years too.
