  1. If this is how we are doing business then we deserve to continue to struggle. You do not make decisions based on this. Catchers slow down a lot faster than other players, especially offensively. If we throw big money to a 31+ year old catcher, we get what we deserve.
  2. Dang it. Well the Cardinals got better today going forward to next season. We can try to make ourselves feel better that they traded away a potential top of the rotation guy but come on, this deal is good for the Cards. Especially when they can go out and sign or trade for another SP.
  3. The business side says why sign Luc after the age of 31? We have him in his prime years for cheap, let some other team overpay for him after that. Hopefully by then we have a younger catcher ready to go.
  4. This is what I expect from Doug because he's very secretive in what he does. I would guarantee you he and his staff are working like mad dogs, scouting, etc... to try to get this team to the next level. He also wants people to know that he's not forced to make moves. Teams look for desperate GM's to try to get the most out of their trades. He's smart, he does not show his cards.
  5. I guess it depends on if he's not actually getting to play everyday. If he was our main backup at all three of those positions, he should truly be playing every game. It just may not being always at SS. And if he's getting on base 37% of the time, he can be my shortstop any time.
  6. Takashi Toritani: Toritani, who has spent his entire career with the Hanshin Tigers, is a lifetime .285/.372/.412 hitter that comes with a solid defensive reputation. He’s been incredibly durable, with Boras referring to his client as the “kind of the Cal Ripken of Japan.” While Toritani’s offense isn’t likely to be on par with that of the Baltimore iron man, Boras points out that Toritani has not missed a single game in the past 10 seasons — a highly impressive feat. Even more impressive, however, is that Toritani has not missed so much as an inning at shortstop in that stretch — an incredible span of 1,444 games. (Not surprisingly, Toritani is the NPB record holder for consecutive games played.) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/japanese-shortstop-takashi-toritani-hires-scott-boras.html
  7. Trading for Heyward would be a fun idea because he's a lefty bat that I believe still has more to give to this game than he has and he plays a pretty good RF, which means Braun could get back to LF. Davis is intriguing though because he is cheap and has not reached his max either. I think I'd pull the trigger on getting Hayward though, we are righty dominate. It'd be fun.
  8. This is the type of stuff in baseball that is annoying. Some only wrinkly billionaire just tossing around his monopoly money because he can while teams like the Brewers basically have to be on a pretty strict budget just to even compete. Baseball has it all wrong.
  9. I'm not sure Brewers won't deal Parra if they can. At around $6 million, he'd be a very expensive backup and there might be teams out there that see him as a starter. Sanchez has 3 innings experience in the OF. If they need a guy to be platoon at 1B and 5th OF, I'd rather they just look from within at a guy like Rogers or Halton both of whom have played extensively in the OF in the minors. I'd also be fine limiting Sanchez to 1B and going with Clark as a backup corner OF. Have the Brewers picked up that option on Parra already or how does that work? I guess when it comes to the status of Parra on our roster, I'm confused with it. The only problem with getting rid of Parra is that we really do not have a guy that can fill in all 3 OF positions like he can. I mean, we've been down the road with Schaffer and he just does not seem to be a quality bench/backup OF guy, at least not offensively. Defensively he seems to be a gem, but we need a decent stick out there because Braun seems to be banged up quite a bit these days and Davis really hasn't proven he will hit consistently nor stay healthy.
  10. Gaby Sanchez if he can decently fill in being the 5th OF for us behind Parra. He smacks around LHP's and could be the platoon mate for Lind. Between the two, they would be like having Fielder back. Kris Medlen but it looks as though the Braves will be bringing him back. Everth Cabrera possibly as a switch hitting middle IF who can spell both Segura and Gennett None of these will happen but Gabby Sanchez intrigues me due to how bad Lind is against lefty's.
  11. I guess if we truly are talking about sinking money into a true ace, I'm not sure Scherzer is my guy to do that. I think maybe because he's already hit 30, so if he was lets say 27-28 I'd be all on board with it but giving a guy 6-8 year contract after the age of 30 just screams wrong to me. I feel like we'd love it for the first couple of years and then we would be talking about how stupid management was for giving such a long contract. It would be Aram but even worse. I've heard complaints about him being signed and such but people forget how truly awesome he was in year 1 & 2, especially considering our other options to play at 3B. Now, we complain because he's still here. I don't know, it just doesn't seem like a good fit to me.
  12. The Brewers would be better served flipping Gomez/Lohse or Gallardo to Seattle for Paxton, T. Walker and maybe that James Jones guy they had in CF and trying to stack up their rotation a bit. If they would do it...
  13. Funny to see that controlling a running game is looked at, on here anyways, as a none stat. Like it doesn't matter how putrid it was last year. Try not to laugh at these stats (and again, I'm not saying only controlling the running game matters, but its huge) Molina has caught 10,877 total innings as a big league catcher and thrown out 45% of his runners which is amazing. But lets dig deeper: 574 men have tried to steal in those innings and only 317 have made it. Lucroy (Lol) has caught 4,672.1 innings so far in his career and has throwing out 25% of his runners (not great). He has allowed MORE stolen bases in 40% of the time spent behind the dish. He has had 464 attempts against him and 347 runners have made it. It's putrid. Absolutely horrible. Yeah but it must be all those stinky pitchers we have lol. OR its the fact that he skips em there, and is inaccurate throwing to 2nd. Not only that but hes is not quick in his footwork to get the ball there. He is well below where he should be at handling the running game. So much so, he wouldn't ever be my catcher if I was creating a team.
  14. Just north of Solon Springs? Other than Superior(where I lived for 30 years), there's not much north of Solon Springs. But yes, even in Superior DirecTV worked like a charm and I was able to get every Brewers game.
  15. So long, farewell. I wish him luck if he gets it. What I won't do is really care. A guy that was a so-so player but of course from Wisconsin, played for the Brewers and so we give him more praise than he should get.
  16. I don't discuss politics or really anything for that matter on Facebook. People here do not like that other opinion and you can say whatever you want about me calling his play pitiful or saying that most baseball minds would tell you they would take Molina because outside of Brewer nation, it is true. People here don't want to hear that and they come to the defense of their beloved Brewer. I'm just tired of us believing some of our Brewer players are better than they actually are. Again, Lucroy is a very nice player. He is probably top 5 in the league when you put in his offensive production(last year) but he's just not as great defensively as most of the Brewer faithful wants to believe. I'm glad he is on our team (for the price we are paying him) and considering our past luck with catchers, but to me, he's maybe above average behind the dish. I would bet my life's earnings that if Molina is behind the plate last year for us that we might have 30 guys steal and that might be pushing it. I'm just on the other side of this that doesn't think he is a middle of the order bat and doesn't think he's that great defensively. If Maldonado found a stick, I'd love for him to be our catcher and trade off Lucroy as well as Gomez, Gallardo, Lohse, Garza, Davis and maybe a couple of others. This team is way better than those putrid 90's teams but they are also not very good. But hey, let's shoot for 81 wins next year so we can call it a good season.
  17. Naw, just sick of the rediculous stats used towards him. It's a great example of stats not telling the whole story as they usually do not. If you put Player A on Molina's back, and Player B on Lucroy's back and put them in front of baseball guys and held a try out as to which player they would pick it sure as heck wouldn't be Lucroy. The funny thing is, Lucroy is one of my favorite Brewers and I enjoy him. Just cannot stand the homerism that we have towards him as a defensive catcher. Wait until he has a normal year at the plate and you won't hear any cries for him to win a thing.
  18. I didn't realize calling allowing 83 runners in one season to advance to second by steals and throwing out only 25% pitiful would be such a bad thing. I'm sorry I offended the Brewers god called Jonathon Lucroy. No matter what stat you want to show, he's not even the best defensive catcher on his own team, let alone the league. If gold gloves went strictly on defense, he would never win, ever. He's just not that good. If he didn't hit the way he has, he wouldn't even be starting on this Brewers team because Maldonado or someone would have been signed to be the starter. Don't kid yourselves...
  19. Hank Conger over Maldonado? Lol hilarious. I guess some do not see how truly special he is defensively. If he ever learns to hit, like Molina did, watch out.
  20. That doesn't amount to much. I would argue against this. We're not talking about pinch hitting. It may not be the exact same but it's the same concept. It is hard to do the job well only playing it maybe once a week. Way harder. Maldonado is the better defensive catcher and it's not close. I was a catcher through college and completely understand how a lot of your success throwing out runners has to do with the pitchers but Lucroy is just not good at it. He's got sloppy technique, dropping his arm and he's not blessed with an extremely live arm. 83 runners guys. 83. It's insane. By far and away the worst in the league. Actually a little embarrassed for him.
  21. LOL oh my. So two of the most important parts of being a catcher you say Molina is better but yet you want Lucroy to win the award because dWar says he's better? I find it a crock of bleep that Molina and Lucroy are even put in the same sentence if we are talking about how good they are defensively and I love Lucroy. Molina is a once in a lifetime player defensively and I enjoy the heck out of watching him catch. If he wasn't a Cardinal, this board wouldn't have a feather up their butts about him winning the award he should absolutely win. Lucroy isnt even the best defensive catcher on his own team.
  22. He threw out 7% more and doesn't get to play everyday. It's harder to catch one day a week than it is five days. We honestly would be better off moving Lucroy to another position if Maldonado figured it out at the plate. He's the superior catcher between the two and it isn't close between them defensively. 83 runners moved from 1st to 2nd... that's so bad I cannot wrap my head around it even. Wow. Bad.
  23. But he caught 20 more games than Molina. Surely that means he's better.
