  1. I was getting text updates from my dad at work. When I got the following message I went numb for about 45 minutes: Cordero blows game. B's lose 6-5 I hate the Cubs, and I hate that we had to lose this way.
  2. That's exactly right. The game was "lost" in the top of the 9th when the Brewers only got one run with the bases loaded and no out. As much as that stings, the fact remains that Joe Nathan is very nasty. Thoughout his career he's averaged a strikeout an inning, which makes him a likely candidate to get out of such a jam.
  3. I actually agree with that, though it stings that we had the bases loaded with nobody out and only managed to tie the game. A bases clearing double would have been nicer. Oh well, the Cubs still lost!
  4. At least the Crew took to series and the Cubs are getting worked as well. Because of those two things as well as the fact that were able to manage a 5-4 road trip after getting no-hit and blowing a game vs. Texas it's hard to be too upset.
  5. What is that supposed to be a picture of?
  6. I blame Pinella. If you were acting like a jackass and someone like Lou Pinella told you to cut it out would you listen? Would you be more or less inclined to exercise self-control if Lou Pinella was your manager? Pinella is a disgrace to professional sports.
  7. I did not know that Mr. Dick was responsible for the short stroy that inspired Screamers. Sweet.
  8. Jim Powell just said that the Twins are nearly unbeatable at home during the playoffs. The Twins have lost 7 consecutive home playoff games. Good thing I like Powell, otherwise we might have some problems. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  9. It's the blue skies Mars that gets me. Everything seems to point to the fact that Quaid is living in reality, but the comment made at the beginning about the blue skies on Mars always casts a shred of doubt.
  10. I'm glad someone said that. Personally I believe that the Brewers have righted the ship, so to speak. They are by no means playing as well as we all would like them to, but they have at least stabilized after a rough stretch. With some nice homestands coming up I expect them to be 10 games over .500 within 30 days.
  11. Don't forget about the 3 BBs. At some point the Brewers are going to have a game where all of these baserunners score...and then the bullpen with totally implode.
  12. There is no way that the Brewers are going to play .333 ball for the rest of the season. Then again, it is certainly possible. I think that the lesson here is that I wish I was not a sports fan.
  13. Yes, because then we could at least quote Major League: "Let's see, no runs on one hit. One hit? One (explative) hit?!"
  14. Yeah, so that's not going to help matters.
  15. What about Shane? I've never actually seen the movie, though I know about it because it was referenced in The Negotiator. For those of you that have actually seen the film, did Shane die?
  16. As painful as this team has been for the past month, the presence of Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, Weeks, and soon Gallardo will at least give me something to watch for the rest of the season.
  17. I'm done with this team for a while. I can only take so much before I cease to enjoy watching baseball, and that point was crossed by tonights game. I hate paying so much attention to every game only to be ultimately disappointed. I hate being the fan of a team that has not had a winning season since 1992. I need a break from Brewers baseball. One more thought, I hope we never see Estrada batting 5th again. When Weeks gets back I hope we see this starting lineup on a regular basis: Weeks Hardy Braun Fielder Hart Jenkins Hall Miller/Estrada EDIT #2: By "Time Off" I mean at least until the 4th inning of tonights game.
  18. The key to Gagne is his health. If he stays healthy and all signs point to continued health, he would be a great addition to the team. I could see Mark A. opening up the checkbook to get Gagne.
  19. The Rangers bullpen looks pretty good. Perhaps Melvin could get a reliever or two for Vargas and Mench.
  20. Bat-flips and extended poses really don't bother me because hitting a no-doubt home run is an extraordinary accomplishment, and it's really the only time in baseball that you will ever seen any showboating. Football is another matter. I get somewhat irked when players feel the need to celebrate even the most pedestrian of accomplishments.
  21. Cordero Turnbow Gallardo Wise Villy That looks like a good bullpen to me. The problem we have now is that Shouse is becoming dead weight and Spurling really isn't that good. I am not all that concerned about the bullpen because unlike last season we have solutions. There will be no garbage men coming in to clean up the mess. ZING!
  22. You'll have to expand on that a little bit. Not their year to win the World Series? I would be inclined to agree. Not their year to win the division? I would have to disagree with this because they are no worse than any of the other "contenders." Not their year to finish above .500? Let's hope that's not the case.
  23. I really do not pay much attention to the quality start stat, though I think it's a better measure of performance than win and losses because it can at least suggest consitency. For instance, last season Chris Capuano had a 4.03 ERA and 25 QS. in 2005 Cappy had a 3.99 ERA and 16 QS. In this case the QS stat provides evidence that Cappy was better last season than the year before. So in that sense the QS stat has some use, but overall its utility is very limited.
  24. We need to find a gritty gamer type to trade for Dye. If Melvin could convince the White Sox that Graffy is a veteran battler and Vargas is a scrapper we could get Dye in no time.
  25. In order to succeed in professional sports you have to be extremely confident in your abilities. Heck, sometimes it even helps to be delusional about your abilities. As long as Braun doesn't show anybody up he can be as cocky as he wants a la Nick Swisher.
