  1. If Hellweg pitches anything close to well, I would be highly disappointed should he lose his spot to any one of those guys.
  2. I sure hope so (to all). I'm so tired of this "a year at every level" garbage. They need to be more aggressive with these guys.
  3. My apologies, certainly not trying to "pick on" your idea. The above quote made it seem as though you were trying to defend a proposal, not just a concept for a deal. I understand that your position is that the Brewers need to be blown away in order to deal Gallardo. To a point, I agree. I just feel that the deal you suggested is beyond any deal that will ever be offered for Gallardo. If the D'Backs turned around and offered Skaggs, Chafin, and Owings, I would consider that a blow away offer. Part of my problem is that the Brewers have been stung repeatedly by holding on to players into their last year. Hart is going to be another example of that. IMO this is about as good a year as any to deal Gallardo (and Lohse for that matter). The extra contract years add value and I'm just not sure he is not in a decline, at best he has leveled off. There are plenty of teams that need pitching and both Gallardo and Lohse are solid targets for teams with that need.
  4. One of my bigger complaints about the minor league system is that our pitching prospects are "old". I will admit that they seem to have been a tad more aggressive this year, but they need to be more aggressive with some of these guys. Hellweg will be 25 in October, they need to see what he can do at the major league level. If the major league team was fighting for a playoff spot I might want someone more predictable, but at this point what can he not work on in the big leagues that he will be able to work on in AAA.
  5. With Peralta, I think that about covers it. Aoki is too old and Francisco is too bad to worry about either. If you include names from the 40 man roster, I would throw a couple more in there. I'm not sure I would count Maldonado as a core piece. Maybe Shafer and Gennett, but they are both borderline in my opinion.
  6. Just a name. A young pitcher with some upside, seems like one gets thrown into every deal. There are a few other names you could use in that spot, just the name that came to mind.
  7. Just to be clear, I am not saying Arizona is a bad partner. They are rumored to be looking for a SP. I like Skaggs and Davidson, either would become the best prospect in the system immediately. I would look at some combination of Skaggs/Owings/Chafin. Maybe for Gallardo, Axford, and/or Davis/Gindl/Quintana.
  8. Why? I said make the effort, not pull the trigger. I think everyone on this board is smart enough to understand that the right deal needs to be in place to, in fact, pull the trigger. I'm not suggesting that he trade Gallardo for a bag of peanuts, nor am I suggesting that every player on the roster should be dangled as bait. However, this team is going nowhere this year or next, a least not as currently constructed. Anyone on this roster that is not going to be an effective player in three years (or have an albatross contract), with reasonable foresight, needs to be put on the block. This team is not young anymore, and the farm is certainly not ripe. Skaggs/Davidson seems steep to me. That seems like a better package than Segura/Hellweg/Pena when that trade was made and Gallardo is no Greinke, though he does have an extra year. Nor do I see how having Corbin devalues Skaggs in the D'Backs eyes. Skaggs has always been rated as the better prospect, whey would they not just deal Corbin if they feel they only need one of them? I would think they could get a much better reliever than Rodriguez by Dangling Corbin.
  9. Anything is possible given the right circumstances. Davidson and Skaggs seems really steep for Gallardo/Rodriguez, but as someone mentioned earlier, it only takes one team to freak out and get desperate. So many teams are going to be in position for a playoff spot that a desperate enough team may emerge. I just think that perception changes quite a bit as the deadline approaches. There are only going to be so many pitchers out there that can really make a difference. Gallardo would be one. Just about every team in contention needs one. The point is, I think Melvin needs to make the effort to trade whatever he can trade this season.
  10. San Diego is said to be looking for a SP inked beyond just this season. I'd be interested in Erlin, Liriano, Ross, Eflin, Weickel and Fried. Gallardo/Lohse plus Axford/Rodriguez (or whichever reliever) for a package involving some of those guys sounds good.
  11. I sure hope so 7 innings, two hits, no walks, eight strikeouts. Very nice.
  12. Maybe it has something to do with his last start being skipped and not wanting to ramp up his pitch count his first start after being skipped. Or perhaps they are trying to limit innings with a future call up in mind. I can see a case for both. I don't like it, but I can see it.
  13. Getting ready to graduate and have a potential job offer in the Raleigh area. We have two elementary age children and we are interested in what Raleigh has to offer in terms of family life. We are looking for a high degree of culture with lots of things to do. If anyone has any thoughts, let me know.
  14. It just seems stunning to me the amount of pitchers this team has, that are 23 or older, below the AA level. Some of these guys have shown potential yet the upper levels are clogged by guys like Lowe, De La Cruz, Webb, and Leon among others. I just don't get the hesitancy. The minor league rosters need just as much purging as the major league roster. Excited to get some feedback on the DSL guys that have been brought stateside though.
  15. I'd have to through Cole into the that group with Miller, Fernandez, and Harvey.
  16. It may be my imagination, a product of circumstances, or something else, but it sure seems like the organization is being more aggressive with pitcher promotions.
  17. I dunno, maybe I'm crazy but I kinda like some of the picks outside of the top ten. I like Poppe, Aviles, Denson, Hillis, and Norton of the guys they have signed. I also like Johnson, Eicholtz and your guy but I'm guessing the team is tapped out in terms of signing those guys.
  18. Now that I look closer, Belonis is on the 60 day DL. Anyone know anything about that?
  19. I am seeing a Sean Wardour and Tyler Spurlin on the AZL roster. I'm guessing both are UDFA's Chad Thomposon's name is on that roster as well. It seems Joel Dicent was assigned to the AZL after all. Also, much to my liking, Carlos Belonis is on the AZL roster (though listed as an OF)
  20. Luis Aviles is showing up on the AZL roster so he must have signed.
  21. I don't know if I could put Denson in the top 25 yet but I would think he would fit easily into the top 50.
  22. Thanks. Sounds like a fairly solid prospect with at least a chance.
  23. Wagner is putting up some decent numbers and I remember reading some positive scouting reports about him last year. Does anyone have any info on what/how he is throwing this season?
  24. Jimmy Nelson Tyrone Taylor Johnny Hellweg Orlando Arcia Clint Coulter Victor Roache Mitch Haniger Ariel Pena Taylor Jungmann Tyler Thornburg Hunter Morris Scooter Gennett Hiram Burgos Devin Williams Drew Gagnon Jed Bradley Tucker Neuhaus Jorge Lopez Tyler Wagner Michael Reed Chris McFarland David Goforth Jose Pena Nick Bucci Sean Halton Not sure of the order, particularly in the second half of the list. But there it is.
