Was Gary injured? Or did he not play a snap? -
I almost think currently Urias and Lauer need to be similar value. Urias isnt pitching a full season of games until maybe after he becomes a FA. Lauer can this season. 87IP is Urias' most for a season his acquisition time has passed as a meaningful SP. RP sure. I think he stays on LA while we get Maeda. So gotta get somebody else from them. Seeing as Gray and Maeda is top return it should be a non pitcher. I dont get Brad Hand or the Brewers SS at all. So just nix that. That really means no 3rd team trade needed. Back to square 1 Hader to Dodgers for?

Well I can finally say the refs muffed that one. Kittle 1-2 punches Redmon in face and then turns and gets a flag for PI. -

Probably trying to get as many points as possible at this point. I mean, the math just didn't even make any sense on it. I know it won't happen, but if we were to rally and score 3 TDs in the final quarter here and lose in OT, MLF will be absolutely crucified for that decision. That's my feeling too. 19 pts plus three is 22. 21pts plus three is 24. May just kick the XP and wait til you actually may need that 2pt. Somewhere there's probably gamblers on O/U. What was that before the game. 47 total now ought to be pretty close -

Think for a moment the fact the 49ers had to of started 3 possession inside Packer territory and yet that still was a fact. I am so glad I don't live in WI anymore. I just can't handle the cry baby Packer fans on the WI sports radio shows. The radio shows will be nothing but Packers and how they lost it blah blah blah blah refs cost them the game blah blah blah the NFL cheated the Packers out of another Super Bowl blah blah blah blah Rodgers is not Favre blah blah blah blah Packers need to fire x coach because that is not how they were coached in pop warner football blah blah blah blah. Oh and it is now a week until opening day and all the cry baby Packer fans have finally stopped calling into the sports radio stations in WI and the Bucks are nearing a championship run and it is now time to talk about the NFL Draft. This then brings in the same cry baby fans and how the Packers need to trade away their picks to give Rodgers the flavor of the month WR pretty sure that is going to be Odell Beckham. Refs missed that clear block in the back on that 1st play 7yard run. -

I should have placed a bet taking the 49ers giving 7 if that was still true by game time. Packers would probably be up 14 if I did. -

So an OL picks up Martinez who's crashing at the RB. And not one body within 10yards? What are we calling for defense? Amos is a nobody. That was 2 bodies between the Tackles for 20yards. -

It would take the mother of all drafts to catch these guys next year. Need some offensive FA signings as well, no way one draft fills the holes. An actually game changer at LB is what the defense needs. They've failed to draft one for a few decades, if ever? Offense, well they've ignored that for 10 seasons now right? Well probably less but it sure feels that way. -

I think where to go is appreciate the greatness that is Nick Bosa. This may be best DE all time before our eyes. Has no care for the Packers All Pro Bakhtairi. Oh so Best TE in league. Best FB in the League. Best DE in league. Think we're seeing why they are about to destroy the Packers. -

That's another in the flat toss. You can't trick a team when you're playing a 8yard field. And then on a long 3rd down, predictable to yards needed to go to defend when you have have 2 DL that are All Pro and still blitz another. -

Graham open for a first down on drive one. And he just had Jones on the slant on the last 3rd down. Drive one the LB that made that tackle was originally next to Graham. He recovered so quickly switching off and made a huge play. Graham wasn't open. I missed on Jones being wide open. But if he was 3rd or 4th in Rodgers progression you can't be mad he missed him open. Let's be serious. They need to stretch the field here pretty quick. These out in the flat tosses are getting destroyed. -

Theres a guy who used to play for the Chiefs. Maybe it was Priest Holmes? Or a RB or two before him? I think the dude was similar in Hershel Walker a former Track Athlete? Someone along those lines. Pretty sure I watched a 30 in 30 or whatever that show is called one time on the player. You got it as I found them. Christian Akoye. The Mahomes TD. #35 for Tennessee, reminded me of Deion Sanders trying to avoid making a tackle. Under 20secs in a half and you play 2hand tag when playing for the right to go to SB? Afraid to tackle a QB? Just wow. -

I remember a Packer doing it probably within the last 6 years. In the moment it's a smart play. In the player's history that INT can go a long way on historical stats to get in the HOF. I was at the Arizona game the 2009/2010 postseason(Only ever been to 2 games) All the TDs I think GB scored were on the side of the field my buddy and I were sitting at. Jermichael Finley was a large imposing man compared to what Arizona had on defense. Can't believe he didn't have a big career. Anyway, I had forgotten the missed FG but I can remember now. The crowd went from like a furious 12, to 8, to 5, to almost dead silent as we got the kick for OT. They basically knew they weren't going to stop the Packers on offense. So when the strip sack fumble happened, we were on the opposite end of the field completely out of view what transpired. Just remember the crowd behind the end zone suddenly is a massive ruckus and the rest of the stadium joining in a second or 2 later. We were dumbfounded. Never seen the hand in Rodgers facemask prior to just reading the pages moments ago. It was a long night. I think I got tickets for like $110 for two. -
I think the way it will work is the team will break camp with their crew with 2 RPs in mind to shuttle. Well with a 26man, maybe just 1 in mind for shuttling. Corbin Burnes started the season and after 5 starts went to the bullpen and pitched there poorly til July 14th last season. So keep that in mind when I talk about depth and list the guys you'd expect to be some AAA time away. They can easily accrue a month or two to "earn" the promotion. The idea is, is that option exists as you mention end of 2020 to in to 2021. We don't necessarily have to acquire a RP at the Deadline but find one just in the AAA. Such as Rasmussen. In July or August. Williams was serviceable in his first look at the Majors. He only appeared in a game top 9th down 1run to Stl. Otherwise the team had 3runs or more lead or were behind by 2runs or more. Just under a 4ERA albeit a 4.82Fip. Anything below 4.4ERA I'm sure can be managed and is useful. And that's just sorta it, I feel there are a lot of guys that can beat a 4.4ERA If they start beating a 3ERA they are a strength. That must be an extra win over the season.

You're more than likely right, but I wouldn't rule it out where the Dodgers are on a 115win pace with Gavin Lux not returning much value for them and a willingness to listen on a trade on Lux and Hader with a piece or more returning. Looking at the Dodgers they have a plethora of 2b-3b prospects to part ways with him. Though reading the last piece on him on MLB prospect rankings Lux has a lot of Errors for a SS and a 2b placement may end up being his home(where KeKe Hernandeaz plays) So maybe not Lux and more Dustin May headlining? Just giving an example how it may be possible. White Sox chasing after Minnesota. San Diego chasing LA. Lets say even the Yankees and willing to meet a demand of Stearns on Gleyber Torres. Something like that scenario where he gave them the offer he'd take today and right now it's a no way, but come near deadline, they call saying I want to make that deal. Can we? Please. I guess I could reverse on the White Sox catching Minnesota and say Minnesota needs to catch up to the Sox after a meltdown 2013? was it version of the Brewers bullpen season. Let's go on that Kneble is performing All Star level. 1 of Peralta/Houser are solidly performing in the rotation and the other is studly in RP. Suter is lights out. Burnes is lights out 2018 version. Like they could survive a Hader departure and gain where they need help with lots of team control. Again, you're likely correct and we aren't in the picture of a Playoff bound team. About a month away to find out what he'll be paid. What was it 4.1 to 6.3? or somewhere in between.(settlement before)

Twins Sign Donaldson - Four Year/$92 Million

Disagreeing on methods and strategies is fine. Your condensation and sarcasm is really over the top and not needed. I've been on record many times defending DS against attacks from people who say he doesn't do enough, and I've said we need to pick and choose our spots, you saying I'll just ask to spend more money again in 2021 is projecting a posting style onto me that isn't mine. You portraying me as a "just throw money at the problem" poster shows you haven't really payed any attention to the things I've posted this offseason at all. Also, you have zero evidence that Donaldson becomes a negative value player in 2021, it is nothing more than your opinion and should not be stated as anything more than that. If I improperly characterized you then I am mistaken. That is the stance you are taking on this one though. They just need to spend more. You refuse to offset the extra spending. You just want 15.5 more on the cap. Don't act like it's just my opinion. I'm quoting ZIPS. I'll take their system over your opinion. They have him estimated at 2.9 WAR in 2021. I don't go by 1 WAR = 8 mil belief because if that was true MKE's 1.8 WAR projected out of the 6.5 mil spent on Sogard/Gyorko is a 7.9 million dollar value. That's only the WAR they accumulate as their portion of 3b platoon, so it's to be assumed they are worth even more than that. I'll take 1.8 WAR at a value over 3.8 war at cost then 2.9 war from a negative contract then 2.1 WAR on an ever growing worse contract on top of Cains 18 million dollar contract as a 36 year old. To me that looks like a great way to blow up the last year Yelich is in our system at a huge value and trigger a fire sale rebuild in 2022 instead of a 3rd year of very uncommon window of opportunity. Yelich isn't even worth 6War via that zips projection. I did answer your question maybe it wasnt a direct yes but came in explaining how the core of your team have been just as likely to be AAAA players. Donaldson is not. Gamel or Taylor can be AAAA or give 1-2WAR outperforming AAAA. You can option Taylor, maybe Gamel? You couldnt for Garcia/Sogard/Gyorko. Also I go off of Baseball Reference in regards to WAR. Fangraphs is inconsistent and doesnt possess the historical numbers or WAR comparisons of the greats. It almost seems (going from 6.1-4.9 and projecting 3.8WAR) that they are giving older players a -1WAR to start and then dont adjust so they cant be that wrong? 6.1 WAR via BRef. Coming back from injury and a trajectory of 7+WAR seasons the previous 5 seasons. You want to use Fangraphs use them for their charts and numbers like zone swing, out of zone swing, zone contact, out of zone contact. Look at the value he is to pitches thrown against. You can see trends in batting profile. I think you can glance over at Donaldson and see he was who he's been. Maybe go to Sogard or Garcia, and Gyorko and study what made their season last year(or broke Gyorkos] The value and projection side of Fangraphs is lacking on rosey. And it gets worse to older players. Donaldson the Brewers could have done with a great chance to add a former MVP still producing near that level. He fit the need on the roster. But the Ryu, Cole' Strasburg' Rendon signings, I have no problem against because the money or the consistency or health. 4/84mil doable. Suggesting 6WAR from Donaldson? More than doable his track record says it all. Unlike Ryu or Rendon's. Certainly unlike Sogard or Garcia. By now you should have your answer. Donaldson now seeing what he signed for all day every day in this FA class. In 2 years I believe this signing will easily be the best signing of the FA class. -
Supak and Derby are, unfortunately, following in Brown's footsteps. All three got to AAA and failed miserably. They all have to prove they can get AAA hitters out before they even can think about the big leagues. Burnes needs to show he too can get AAA hitters out. He, however has a track record (until last year) and hopefully will have somehow figured it out. I don't think Stearns can count on any of those four guys for the 26 man roster. I don't know I'd believe that. Brewers clalled up Devin Williams (i think forgotten in bullpen inclusions) after 3appearances under 4IP. 2020 new season new beginning. Roll with the hot hand after Spring training. If thats Brown or Supak over Burnes then that's who it will be. They clearly did with Williams and stayed with him during a 2month stretch to get in the playoffs. Maybe the guy who wins out of ST becomes a 2018 Burnes bullpen dominator. Can we not see the youth depth for the bullpen? I had no clue Devin Williams was basically on the team the last 2months of the season with effective results in the bullpen. I cant allow myself to turn my back on Burnes. He was so dominant in 2018, why not just return to being dominant in 2020? Peralta or Houser have Starter or much better RP ability. Kneble returns at some point. And Hader. Suter. Supak and Brown=depth. Rasmussen-depth. Went in fo 2019 with very high hopes on Peralta, Burnes, and who am I forgetting? Was it just Woodruff? We're going in to 2020 with even more names to put out there and hopefully the odds of success work in our favor vs last year.

Twins Sign Donaldson - Four Year/$92 Million
brewcrewdue80 replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The money is still there to spend 8.75mil. And yes if I'm looking at an expensive group of AAAA players vs ones that are going to cost multiple millions of dollars, I am easily more confortable with Gamel and Taylor or even Ray should the OF trio of Yelich, Cain, Braun need a game or few off. Heck, even Broxton in a pinch I'd roll with over Garcia keeping the team from a true difference maker in Donaldson. Garcia is just a guy and he's going to make 10mil a year. That's crazy for the utter disappointment he's been for his career to go pay a 2WAR player 10mil but not a 6+WAR player at a true area of need 21-24? Injuries is just the overall broader argument due to his age. It didn't have to do with replies. It's arguing against this argument where he can't be worth the money because injuries at a higher age happen more frequently. But that reads to me that injuries to younger players aren't a factor to their value. Like they're immune to injury devaluing them because of how cheap they are and you know maybe having a 2WAR season around .725-800 OPS makes that choice a better choice than signing a 33yr old to a 4/5 year contract, even though they are likely to give you 6WAR or higher. When 6WAR can be had for 23mil at what may be your worst sitting position in terms of roster and depth? It's a complete fail on Stearns end and evaluation of what he's pieced together. All Donaldson has to do is have another 6WAR season or higher, and you'll likely be able to trade him for value. I mean if Arenado can return anything of value with that contract, 3years 66mil is a drop in the water. -
Twins Sign Donaldson - Four Year/$92 Million
brewcrewdue80 replied to JDBrewCrew's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Except they signed Sogard 4.5 Gyorko 2 Smoak 4.5 Garcia 8.25 and Lindblom 3 for the price of Donaldson 23. Zero long term risk, and all their non needle moving probably moves the needle quite a bit. Obviously everyone would take Donaldson over Sogard and Gyorko. But 23 doesn't equal 6.5. How about we do this experiment. Sogard and Gyorko are paid 5.5 mil if you merely look at this year. Donaldson 21. Take 15.5 mil off the Brewers off season spending and explain who MKE would replace them with that would make them better? Let me guess? No answer other than the FO needs to spend more money. Well, the answer was the amounts you paid for Sogard, Gyorko, Smoak, Garcia, Lindblom don't you think? But if you ask me. Linblom is needed and approve that deal. Garcia I don't think the team needed so -could do without. Sogard and Gyorko obviously not needed in a Donaldson sign. Smoak you needed after letting Thames go. You take the 15mil from the 3 and get a better 1 for 21mil though I really thought he was going to get 24-26mil. Stearns may have jumped the gun on all these little signings and then wound up, up against the payroll ceiling unable to cross it signing Donaldson. You're weren't going to get regression on Donaldson. What you were avoiding was injury and expense going down the drain while he didn't play. Injuries are a funny thing though. Sogard, Gyorko, Garcia, Smoak, even Lindblom, none of them are immune to the potential for an injury. All of these players are older except Garcia. But with Garcia, he's only had 2 significant seasons and the other 6 were AAAA level essentially. We are now paying this guy 20mil for 2 years and by the numbers 1 of them will be AAAA levels. Sogard at the age of 33 had his career best season and we tossed 4mil this at that when any of his other 8 seasons played his highest value was 1.9WAR. Career avg after the 2.6WAR value last season still remains below a 1WAR a season. So 2 signings of AAAA quality. Gyorko doesn't have a single season with more than 128games played and carries a career .730OPS. Where his value is, I dunno, one year it's defense, the other year offense and the last 2 years it's neither. AAAA the last 2. He's at least being paid like it. So for 15mil I'd love to have given 7more to know I was putting out there somebody who is going to not only be an everyday player, but one that is elite at his position. Vs. the 3 darts and AAAA likelihoods. You lose Braun next year or at least can and JD's contract isn't hurting the team after 2020. Deep breaths. First real hiccup for me on Stearns. -
Rendon to Angels - 7 yrs / $245 mil

2020 30 Los Angeles Angels $26,071,429 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2021 31 Los Angeles Angels $28,071,428 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2022 32 Los Angeles Angels $36,571,429 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2023 33 Los Angeles Angels $38,571,428 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2024 34 Los Angeles Angels $38,571,428 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2025 35 Los Angeles Angels $38,571,428 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections 2026 36 Los Angeles Angels $38,571,428 award bonuses for WS MVP, LCS MVP, and AS selections Just going to leave this thought. Rendon's contract after age 29. Donaldson at age 29 just completed an AL MVP season at 8.5BWAR vs Rendon's 6.3BWAR. On the same career arc, Rendon is 2 years away from the injury Donaldson had while 31. Followed with a return of that injury in 2018 at age 32. Now on a comeback 1year deal Donaldson played a full season's worth of games to the tune of 6.1BWAR. And the resulting contract for Age 34, 35, 36, 37 you would figure to be 34: 21mil 35:21mil 36:21mil 37:21mil 38: 8mil buyout or 16mil option. 6.3BWAR is Rendon's 2nd highest WAR season. He had 6.6 his 1st full season. Donaldson by contrast had 7.7, 7.5, 8.5 that age 29 season, and 7.6 age 30. Like I said 6.1 this year vs Rendon's 6.3 and new 26mil/28mil/36.5mil but then 38.5mil age 33 through age 36. Donaldson was a steal of a contract. Rendon's is the perfect example of a bad long term contract.
