  1. Stearns making Kirk N. Earn his portion of that half/half contract, nothing else to see here. Wasnt one of his 3HR games last year vs. Chicago?
  2. Also why are you only posting stats from 2016? Why not his 2017 numbers? 14 starts with 4.79 ERA and a 2.91 K/BB ratio vs 4.33 last year? Doesn't make him look as untouchable when you look at more than his best year. Um because of Colorado. That k/bb ratio is still very good. ERA a holdover on more HRs given up...thin air. As to the Mets comp. Yeah our 4 arent going to be Aces like the 3 they had. The point was 4 strong SPs brought up from their minors, got the Mets to the WS. They got a chance and ran with it. Sonny Gray isnt a 6yr team controlled like these 4possess.
  3. So you think 158IP in 28Starts of 2.68ERA with 173Ks to 40BBs .209BAA is over-rating? He has similar numbers this season in Colorado aside from HRs given up and a couple extra walks vs last year's avg. His numbers are better than Nelson's in the minors at the same stage...by a little margin. He carrys a 6'4" frame. He's already at the stage where he can go 180IP in his progression. Something Hader is not at. I think he possesses the chance to come on the Rotation and give a 7-2 type boost stretch to the team. It really is sad he became hurt on his ML debut day before he got to start.
  4. 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D. untouchable. Let's think Mets with the forthcoming pitching prospects. Woodruff our Harvey, Burnes our Syndergaard, Hader are Matz, and Ortiz our Degrom. Only we have a lot better hitters to back that than NY ever did. And they made it to the WS. Maybe Freddy Peralta or Marcos Diplan can be our Zach Wheeler. Every one of our guys comes with more team control than Gray. If we hadn't had such a weak division nor, our own winning record, the rebuild would be working perfectly, having Hader/Woodruff play this season, Burnes/Ortiz at some point next season. Moving multiples of these guys for a less team controlled player will hurt this franchise's future where it stands. The thing I don't get is all the giddyness by everyone about the Brewers prospects and rthe rebuild..well, I would simply ask anyone that feels that way then..what if the rebuild doesn't work?? Then what?? No one seems to think of that..The way most talk around here, it's like they are 100% certain it will. So now, the Brewers didn't trade any of their "top prospects" when they had a chance to improve, when they ARE actually in a pennant race, and then these prospects don't help the Brewers rebuild much. Then everyone will look back and think "maybe we should have gone for it in 2017 when we had the chance". Then it's too late. You ALWAYS deal in the known vs the unknown. The known is..as of this moment you ARE in a pennant race...the unknown is IF you will have that chance again in say the next 5 years or not. Nope. See Cubs for example. The Mets. The Royals. If our top prospects don't pan out, so what? We've clearly already identified serious trade pieces if we aren't improving in 2-3years. There is clearly talent in the system, far more than I've ever known in the system....That includes pitching in it. The draft and international rules are now in a small-markets favor unlike ever before. We can't compete in FA typically, but we now can compete in both drafts. What if we trade away 5 of our top 10 prospects for 2 good MLB players. We don't make the playoffs, and the other 5 of our top 10 prospects never play above 1WAR at the ML level? Now we have squat to play with for another 5-7years because we shot our wad too early. Think the Cubs. Say they go on to win the division...like a WS defending team should but they don't go on to the WS. How good does their team look for 2018? I'm all for deals if they are including guys who are blocked or behind a lot of other prospect talents at the same position. But to make a splash on guys in our top 10 to get rentals or short term, is so Grienke/Marcum. Our biggest problem this year has been the bullpen and we've barely used guys in our own system. We nabbed guys like Hughes/Drake/Scahill from waivers. Torres. Feliz. Marinez. These guys picked up off the scrap heap for cheap. Meanwhile, you have guys like Lopez, Jungmann, Taylor Williams, Wilkerson, Tristan Archer, Bubba Derby, WCWang, and maybe Corbin Burnes even to call up for that bullpen to try out and help. When it comes to our bats, overall on the season they are all doing as well or better than expected(minus Villar) at every position. And there is improvements to be had there now with Brinson getting his call up. 2b a concern? Dubon, Diaz, and now Hiura who's taking the correct best college hitter approach unlike the mistake that was Ray and in A ball hitting well. We've accomplished this with just 1+ of our top prospects being called up. Hader/Brinson/Phillips getting a glimpse to this point. Mlb's current list has 16 of our prospects an overall 50. Cubs at 9....post rebuild Reds at 15...been rebuilding for years Pirates at 11...post rebuild Cardinals at 12...MLB's darling small market who gets the same benefits as Milw even though they not playing at the small market level Milw and others are. Let the pipeline pump out some help on their own, vs finding a rental who may not help improve the situation and bring us back in the future prospects to the rest of the division.
  5. That would be ideal. I assume you mean Hader, Woodruff, Ortiz and Burnes? It could happen, but my guess is that it could take either Woodruff, Ortiz or Burnes if Brinson is not in it. Question: How would you rank those three on order of preference on keeping out of any deal? Personally, I'd say 1. Corbin Burnes 2. Brandon Woodruff 3. Luis Ortiz Burnes is a dealbreaker for me, personally. I think he's going to be a sneaky good major leaguer in the mold of a Tim Hudson. Woodruff and Ortiz is a toss-up for me, but I prefer keeping Woodruff because he's closer to the Majors and I'm not as worried about his future conditioning. How would you rank them?
  6. Lots to sell with. Perez is a good one, Villar, imagine Nelson or Anderson being put out there? Just 3 years left of control of 3/4s playing at a #2 level. Vogt, Bandy and Susac. Thames or Aguilar. In no way would I sell Shaw, Santana, Brinson, Woodruff, Hader, or Kneble. Braun won't be heading anywhere. Broxton would be selling low but he could be sold with our replacements. Sogard makes perfect sense as sorta a C grade prospect get. The problem is they'd be put in to play for trade, so late in to the deadline. Rather than the 12-20 teams for all we know who've discussed on Gray/Quintana, we'd be maybe trade talks with 3-6teams on Nelson or Anderson. And let's say Gray and Verlander have already been traded. There's less need/competition to talk up our guys. I just see standing pat and having a crazy offseason with moves.
  7. Blazek, Peralta, Torres should be removed from the ML and never see a game again in a Brewer uniform. Ready or not its time to put the minors guys in and pitch. If they suck just as bad at least you found out. But continuing to leave guys on the roster that have no future in this rebuild to lose games is insanity.
  8. Blazek and Peralta need to be waived and forgotten. Comical to continue on with these waste of 40man spaces....unless your tanking??
  9. I just want to wait til the offseason to make trades for this Pitcher we seek. I think guys like Fulmer could be made available then, as well as getting more preview of the Brewer prospects. Is it Phillips or Brinson you want as CF/4th OF? Is Woodruff potential performance a 4 or 5, or a 2/3? Burnes...a Sept callup? You see how they perform and decide what you want to roll with in 2018. Baseball these days especially in the playoffs, have been dominated with 9out bullpen shut downs. This team is far from that...though if CC would use Hader more often, I'd think we'd be approaching a 6-8out tandem with Kneble. Honestly, the team's performance this year is setting back the rebuild, as a 6under .500 team and selling would likely have made one final nice haul with trading Nelson and Anderson, Villar and Broxton. Woodruff and Hader would get their spots and you now have something to piece together for 2018 season. You can find someone for next season and all the young guys will have another 60games or so more experience. We obviously have a deep team, but we need the Pitching to catch up more than adding Gray will provide.
  10. Maybe Stearns is trolling the Mets? Because there isn't 1 reason to acquire Granderson.
  11. I always thought 1mil option occurred if he spent the end of this season on the DL.
  12. Yes, prospects fail. So you should take the SP with a track record. The pain in that is we have 4+Quality SP prospects and it will cost at least 1, I don't care how many of our great OF prospects we offer Beane will want a SP for his SP. In the Gomez/Fiers trade Hader was the throw in pretty much. Prospects fail. I'm high on Woodruff, people are really high on Burnes. I loved Ortiz predraft. Let's put those 4 in the one of the musts in the proposed trade for Gray. 2 of them succeed, 2 of them fail/flame out. You put the combo of Woodruff/Burnes in the trade for Gray and they go Ace for Oakland. Meanwhile Hader never gets better than a RP, and Ortiz never becomes better than a #4 starter. But hey we got Gray prematurely for 2 years and quickly have become a barely around .500 team in 2019 because we have 0 pitching. Had we kept Woodruff/Burnes we'd be headlining a rebuilding team with 2 legit SPs for years to come. Ala the Astros with Keuchel and Mccullers. They were a team that waited til the rebuild was ready before they made their trade for Gomez/Fiers. Our rebuild is not ready, we haven't added our own Keuchel or McCullers to the roster. They went 3 seasons of 100 loss teams and then 70wins before they got to that point. I think sitting and waiting is prudent to learn more on guys in the system so we don't end up with Jungmanns and Lopez type ceilings in the system due to acquiring 1 or 2 guys who don't help the team to begin with with the warts that are prestent. Arcia, barely Phillips, Kneble, Hader barely, and Nelson are the only top 100 prospects we are playing with called up out of our system. Santana had games under his belt with Houston. We need to let a couple more get settled in to the roster before we trade these guys off for a rental or 2years of team control....2 is far less than 12 or 18. Trading away Lawrie for Marcum, Lawrie produced more that 1st year than Marcum did, even though it was Marcum's best with Milwaukee and we seen how he did in the playoffs. What's not to say Gray wouldn't be like that come playoffs? We get the Ray or Clark offers, like really? Give up early on your 1st round selections for 2 seasons of an undersized SP. This season wasn't supposed to happen, you are in a rebuilding year. Hold for now and reap the rewards next season by all the great players you are adding to this team in 2018 or will be soon.
  13. Villar is batting .304 and 1/3 tonight adding to that since I dropped him from my Fantasy team...with 3SBs I dropped Keon Broxton ending my Brewer picks I've stuck with too long. So now I will watch 1st to 3rd in standings claim him and see him bat .250 with 20/20 the rest of the season.
  14. Verlanders expense is too much to take on. With Brauns fragility, youre looking at 47mil for potentially negative War...though I think Braun isnt a negative War type. Sure the two could produce, but then its to what they are being paid. Throw in Justin Wilson I dont know, its like trying to make it reasonable to part with any top prospects. If we're willing to pay that kind of money, then why not do so in FA after the season? Detroit would need to pick up half the salary before Id part with a top ten Brewers prospect. Why would Detroit do that?
  15. Diaz is doing fine, still collecting XBH. Hes a 2nd base bat still very young. As is Erceg in pro ball. Hes essentially finished his 1st year total. Probably too high on the bar set for him due to last year&spring. Ray is most upsetting and We're awaiting his stats to approach what a college 5th pick should be producing....since lately these type of picks have been either promoted or knocking at the door for ML time. He's not even close. Dubon like I said, is the shine his defense? With offense being adequate for it? Because his power lacking doesnt bring a lot of confidence to be a difference maker anytime soon in the Majors. Luis Sardinas #2? Im thrilled honestly with the minors production. The pitching has shined in multiple arms, the bats have had shine to them as well. It wasnt so much like this last year.
  16. Majority of Pirates good players are 24-28 that is not an aging roster. But everything else on division is true. Brewers are set up for some serious consistency maybe with 90win seasons like the Rays' stretch? Need some more optimism, Domingo Santana is 24 with an .895OPS. His best years are ahead of him. #3 Bat is on this team already to replace Braun's. Shaw is just 27. These two will mash for this team for seasons!
  17. If I were Stearns, I'd take the guaranteed playoff spot and relax at this whole trading pressure to improve the team. Keep them all and trade in the offseason or nothing at all.
  18. Think about this for 1 minute...The Mets gave up Michael Fulmer for a rental of Cespedes. How stacked was their pitching? wow. I'd have thought Detroit would get more....If this is what Martinez is worth, I've been way wrong on what Braun's value is
  19. Or the Orioles and Braves as opponents. If Kneble saved the game would anyone be freaking out or claiming the Q trade jump started the Cubs and we're lacking?
  20. What if Ortiz is working on a 3rd pitch in starts or 4th vs just sticking with best two? I'm amazed Dubon made the top 10. He must be Gold Glove potential or else he's very much overrated. Out of the top 10 that's about the only one I'd say didn't belong. But if you grade on a 100scale. Erceg would be a 78, Harrison 77, Ponce 76, Phillips 76, Peralta 76, Gatewood 74, Dubon 72. I could probably put someone ahead of him but I'll be happy with that 15.
  21. Gray would not have helped at all over the course of the last 5 games. I am not sure how Gray was going to help the Brewers core more than 2.4 runs a game. Even with Gray's outing today I doubt the Brewers would have won today or even adding another bullpen arm wouldn't have helped. You are not going to win all that many games scoring on average 2.4 runs a game. So True, this game with the pitching matchup whether Davies or Gray is a bad matchup for Milwaukee. Gray can only pitch 1 every 5 days....We've lost 4 straight, he'd be on deck for game 5 of this losing streak. Bullpen has blown the last four games, not the Starters....
  22. So it takes 2 top 100 prospects to get Quintana and what was it a 15 and 35 team prospect?...But for us it will take 1.5 top 100 prospects as well as 2.5 top 10 team prospects...or all 4 top ten team prospects to get Gray? I'm so high on Woodruff that if he's included in the trade it's him and some 10-20 prospect within the team and that's it. I just feel Woodruff will produce better than Gray come 2018 and possible the rest of this season. He offers so much better velocity with his height...downward plane! over Gray who could be a launching pad at 5'10" here or the height Thornburg is and moved to the bullpen. I foresee a lot of SPs to trade for in the offseason who's value could be down, but really promising with multiple years of control left. I think the big years some of the Brewers prospects are having will shoot them in to the top 100 or conversation to be in. But at the moment we are being hurt in the top 100 rankings. Just hang on to what you've been doing and tinker with the bullpen which already was 1 move. God, the Woodruff injury may curse this team by missing his potential and overreacting by trading studs away for a flop and ruin this rebuild.
  23. Trevor Cahill had 5.7BWar in his first 62 games. and 5.5BWar the following 55games all told 11.2War. Who in the midst of his 3rd season was traded for a 3man package including Jarrod Parker who had 5.7War his first 2 seasons before injury ended his career. Every bit of Sonny Gray fits that exact mode that Cahill provided...who disappeared in performance/injured at the same timeline that Gray is now in, that Woodruff/Hader/Ortiz are not in. Hader and Ortiz weren't original draftees of the Brewers. Woodruff and Burnes are. Nelson is a product of Milwaukee's system. It's a different time-stamp in competitiveness the Brewers exist today in vs 20years ago. The draft, a cheap owner, GMs, coaches, scouts, and media, all that involved. 20years ago I think a select few of us even had an idea on the minors of Milwaukee's, much less the other ballclubs. Trading Brinson, Hader, and Woodruff you wouldn't know the loss it is to the organization as you do today. This applies to draft day, the media knowledge is at your fingertips, and so is the medical advances for these players since 20 years ago. The analytics are way more advanced to expose a good vs. a fail. The franchise is this close...to producing a number of pitchers it has drafted and turn this 20years of futility on its head....or we over-react send that chance away taking in a guy who could be expiring as a quality starter...should he be a Cahill...and miss this chance at having Cahills produced on our side.
  24. Happ has far longer recent success than Gray does. Probably below a 3.5ERA since Aug 14th of 2015. Pitching for Pitts in '15 and Toronto since 2016...in the AL East you know. That's 54 Games started of production. Toronto would be better served to trade him during this stretch considering his age, and injury risk. If they wait for him to next season to trade he could end up hurt or age regression to a 4+ ERA and lost value. I would give up something good for him because production including playoffs could net the Brewers a similar return if doing so in the offseason should you not want him for 2018.
  25. You feel that way. Pitchers like Woodruff and Ortiz could turn out better than Nelson, Anderson etc....including Gray. Brinson's numbers aren't better than Santana or Braun's when playing. You need 6 good pitchers vs 4 good OFs and you have 2 of those OFs already with a questionable 3rd in place. We have a boatload of OF prospects. Getting Gray for 2 seasons adding the team control of Nelson and Anderson both heading to their 3years of Arb. Garza, Davies, and Guerra are question marks to start the season in 2018. So yeah I'd prefer to have the next wave of SPs in place vs. no SPs for 2-3years and what makes up the rotation all hitting FA. Had Brinson shown a little something in his short stint, maybe I wouldn't want to trade him so bad, but he had 13ks 3hits, 3 bbs in 31PAs. I don't think he hits for two seasons to help the team. But I think Woodruff will help this team immediately and Ortiz would help immediately within 2years of now. Woodruff's arsenal of Pitches with his velocity is the kind that can be an instant success. He's not a wild hard thrower. 2.6bb/9 is rather good for a career minors something Nelson never possessed a minors season until his promoted year. Add Woodruff and Gray to the Rotation with Nelson/Anderson this can excel the team down the stretch....Brinson with Gray only not so much.
