Santana's Arm is good on Defense, His chasing a ball is bad. There's just no get up and go after the ball in Santana's defense. It's like 10 steps or less or he won't hustle to get it. I gave him credit last year to being injured and not playing for anything important. Now, this year we're in first and balls are still falling in front of him or down in foul territory that you'd believe an OF could make on catches. When is the last time you seen Santana dive on a liner? Braun for the hate on his defense will at least dive/slide to make a catch.
125 games. That is Arcia's ML experience. Young, lean body. He's still over a year before the age Braun debuted. Think about that for a moment on how quick you are judging his ability. Cast him off because you are watching results that typical guys his age are at AA. Pretty much at 1WAR in the 70games thus far this season and showing improvement. Let his body mature his ability at the game grow with that. I think a bump up to .750 at his position would be taking him from a slight negative with the bat, to a slight positive. Add in the gold glove defense, he is in the 5WAR category. Try and find that in Cordell's bat and defense? According to Milw's all time player stats(that Qualify) 12 Brewers have batted with an OPS above .800 Robin Yount the highest SS OPS at .772. So try and lessen expectations with the bat a little unless you are expecting Arcia to be one of the Brewers all-time Greats. Saying you want to replace him with Cordell makes Cordell an expected all time great.
Who cares on team control? Its called Franchise extending. Ive been touting he'll be the Brewers Derek Jeter around for 12years. The only time team control matters is when in 6.5years and yearly nos to an extensive so to see Free Agency. I dont see that with Arcia. Milwaukee signed him and have stuck with him from day 1. In another year I'd expect the front office to extend him. But maybe it happens this offseason. Buy out his team control plus 3FA years. Add 2 option years. This isnt a cash strapped teamin payroll. Braun's contract will be long gone before Arcias would get eexpensive.
That's my point. You're not giving up something of realistic value for just a little bench player help or about 70 PAs down the stretch and 1-10 in the Playoffs. It'd be something different if he were to be a starter but as noted above what playoff team is he starting for currently....aside from our own?
At this stage in the season, what teams with playoff potentials, need a 2b? Going with names off top of head, Altuve, Pedroia, Cano, Murphy, Lemahieu, Baez, Wong, Odor, Forysthe, and Dozier. Where is Sogard upgrading a Playoff team needing a 2b?
Brewers trade Torres, Drake, Peralta for Wang, Cravy, and Wilkerson. Bullpen solved....til it isnt. It's asinine to have RPs playing in AAA and not giving them a 10 appearance shot over these 3. You cant possibly believe ythey will give value to you in a trade, and sticking with them in hopes they can be what? A 3ERA RP? 4? The 3 in AAA may be 3ERA types or better awaiting you now. If 10 appearances show otherwise that's not really true, then move to the next body. Blazek, Lopez. Suter some more (but BP pitching just not likely to stick) either way whats the point of these guys in AAA if when your team needs help at the position they play and arent used?
Of course people want to trade players at some point. That's how the league is setup. Wouldn't you rather have 5 years of a player plus 6 years each of multiple players received in a trade, than 6 years of the same player plus nothing? Building a baseball franchise is asset management. Having players over-perform so you can potentially get more value for them than they're worth should always be something you're rooting for. If you can't afford to trade a player or two in their final contract year and still be competitive, you're not at the point that you need to be to start neglecting the long term outlook of the team in order to optimize the current team's chances at winning a World Series. But thats sorta what he's indicating. Your asset management asks for more 6years in return, but its not 6years if your trading them away after 3years or less. I get upset when I read ideas to trade Santana, Arcia!, Broxton, Thames etc. As they haven't, or barely reached 1 year of playing games for the club. Because you have prospects who can replace them and assume youll get studs back in return all to just suggest how to trade Lewis Brinson at this time next season for prospects. 1year is not 6years. How many prospects does the minors need? Someone pointed out the draft with 10 straight HS picks after the 10th round, where most likely 5 if not more won't sign. The minors are overloaded with talent and theres not enough teams to fill the roster space for all these numbers of players. Lets try doing what most teams do and trade players around their final year of those 6years vs after 1year with 5years control remaining.
Im surprised when announcing the matchup the tie of Diaz being a rule 5 plucked from Milwaukee wasnt mentioned at least during the game advert. Should be a big win by Milwaukee today.
Well maybe the Cubs are experiencing that been there done that hunger let down. They have a World Series ring, they've been dynasty talk since before it even happened, so the drive isnt there. The players show up and expect they'll win, or they'll be so great for a month and take 1st by 5+ games. LA and Wash seem to frequent that 90+ division win almost yearly and Wash had some dud years. Overconfidence. I think it hit Villar with the extension offer too. Meanwhile the rest of the Brewers, a bunch of castoffs with no real expectations to win have the drive to do so. It means more to them. This team can continue on in first place. Theres such a flow of power hitters, it is hard to get in a funk when like tonight Broxton and Thames step up. Shaw, Santana, even Braun. Arcia has been steadily improving. Hes the one Homegrown batthats a part of this. Hes fitting in at this young age, and gaining confidence. I believe the team can stay amidst the division lead in to September. And weve got adjustments being made in the bullpen. Almost had a Woodruff start.
Maybe Lutz will be a tough sign because what tod johnson? His name? In his interview I seen desribing day a1 I believe he said that Lutz was a top 10 player in this draft. So great negotiating by stating such. Youll be signing him to slot if not more now.
Well when you draft college age hitters with great HS pitchers available and wait til 3rd pick to get the upside. Tall, lanky pitchers flame out the most for starting. Id be better off with the pick if another SP were selected before him. This being potentially the best arm you draft in potential is less pleasing. In case anyone hadnt noticed, developing wild pitchers to better control isn't the minors strong suit. Nevermind he needs a 3rd/4th pitch to learn. To Homer, yes every pitcher is a bust potential. Im commenting regarding to height. 6'6 and above bust more often than shorter pitchers due to mechanics and repeating delivery at such size.
With the selections none should be at slot based on projections. So we would have like 1.5mil saved for a later pick by that estimation. Glad we got a prep pitcher with 3rd pick. Outside my height range for pitching. At 6'6" that makes wild bust potential with lost control. But upside should be innings eating..oh that doesn't exist these days of RPs. So upside to be a 98mph RP.
Not a fan. Victor Roache fell to us due to injury. Turned out not a good selection. This pick has to net us a better 2nd-10th rd selection above the 2nd or 3rd slot pick value. Like the '14 draft picks
Bullpen performance for 2innings with this Monday off, has to come with addressing before Tuesday's dblheader. Torres should be first to go. No reason to keep him at all. Brings nothing to the table. Can probably add Feliz to that as #2. Make Monday a huge announcement day with those two moves along with the draft picks.
Except Santana has 6 of those 12 this season to Brinsons 7 at AAA. I think Santana isnt in a spot in the order where SBs are asked of him. But I think in the minors his SB numbers were bigger.
I generally like Counsell but he does things at times that drive me nuts. There's no reason not to PR Brinson there. Is Brinson any faster than Santana? He's 24 for 35 since 2016 season. 7/12 this year. None of that elicits pinch runner status.
Well im certain that double headers mean a 26th man is allowed. So likely someone in minors on the 40man who's turn in rotation is either that day or day before.
Hader doesn't need to be limited to single ip relief outings. With Peraltas struggles beyond 1 ip, maybe Hader gets the long relief treatment? I said something to this earlier in another thread. If every 3rd game you can get him 2IP or 4ip+ avg a week hes not losing much to his SP amounts. Id think this could be a sample til the AS break where he's sent down during and worked back to a SP and then gets his turn in September with starts. Or bullpen if the team is still vying for playoffs. You get this preview leading towards the trade deadline and can make moves with knowledge of what he does/ Brewers record around then. Are you moving some Brewer SPs? Are you acquiring any Pitching?
