  1. And that should about wrap up any doubts on Lucroy's bat.
  2. Flop or not. we hit on all of them won't mean squat with a Pitching staff filled with #3s of ceiling and 0 TOR. Both playoff years this century, the team had to trade for that TOR arm since there was no development. We'll never be able to FA sign these types. Either trade and end up with a 1-3year window. Or find your TOR now while you're trading away players of value and hope they develop. Teams don't need a lineup full of All-Stars to win. 1 or 2 and 3-4 other bats that are League average will produce enough if you have the pitching to compliment. Cubs were exactly League avg in runs last season, the Mets just below. Didn't stop either of them for playing the NL Championship series. Year before that SF who won was barely above League avg. KC was just below. StL was 7th worst. League avg OPS was .721 last year from .700 the year before. .714 in '13. Santana already makes 1 bat that will exceed that. I'd imagine Arcia does as well with his low K rate. Phillips would appear to at least be one of the 3-4 at avg with upside for better. Give me 1 of Diaz/Nottingham. 1 of Lara/Clark 1 of Orimoloye/Harrison That's 6 players to be bats by 2018. It's not being too optimistic. There's 3 shoe-ins. And I'm expecting less than 50% to find 3more. The upcoming trades could lead to another bat. Or our #5 pick+top 10 pick in 2017. Jeffress is 7-7 in Saves. Baltimore 6/15 Blown Save Opportunities. Seattle 5/15. Dodgers 5/15. Pittsburgh 4/14. That's #2/3 in AL standings and #8/5 in NL standings. Jeffress keeps it up and these teams keep blowing saves at the rate they are, Jeffress will be commanding some haul.
  3. Understand your thoughts. The Phillies did trade a SS/2b 17yr old who reads about what Orlando Arcia would read to at that age/stage. Similar trade to Giles, well include a Franley Mallen, Nicolas Pierre, Gatewood or Harrison, or if looking at the now, a Villar/Rivera/Perez to pair with Jeffress. Anything that would possibly bring a TOR prospect back vs a mid-rotation/late innings prospect. That is what we need in the system. Majority of the other aspects are there. Team has to find a TOR. Nothing else really impacts the system.
  4. After last night, the Brewers are 7th in Baseball in scoring behind only 1AL team. DH must not be doing well in the AL this season.
  5. Ok, I retract my expensive statement of those 2 SPs. Kluber and Carrasco apparently have some poor agents who agreed to sign to contracts less than 14mil beyond their team control. Wow. David Price just recently got paid near 20mil. And Kluber agrees after a CyYoung season to a 5/38.5? He is 30 currently and while the Indians do have 95mil on their books this season, 22.1mil is complete dead money. They'll have plenty of space(under 50mil) the next 3seasons to afford Braun. To put it politely Lucroy would be leading the Indians in OPS. Nevermind Braun's 150+pt lead he has over Lucroy. .833 Replacing .551 and .994 replacing 681/699 combo of Byrd/Davis. Team is 12th in runs scored. 8th in Runs allowed. And that's with injuries to the staff. The boost Braun/Lucroy would provide to Cleveland with their staff would instantly make them a WS favorite on the AL side. Like I said, it's truly not an overwhelming package for likes of Braun/Lucroy. Zimmer while the Indians #1 prospect isn't offering anything special as a Plus tool. Just a solid high floor. Aiken is the biggest boom/bust differential there is in the Minors. Hillman is at least 3 if not 4years from even seeing a day in the Majors if he produces. Sheffield is the best of the lot and he's undersized for a SP. Honestly the more I evaluate this trade the more one sided it is for Cleveland. Edit: to put in perspective. Cody Allen with near Kluber service time. Having pitched less than 250IP as RP. His first year Arb, is almost identical to amount Indians are paying Kluber this season. That is after his CyYoung he agreed to this amount in what would have been Klubers first Arb year. Agent easily cost Kluber minimum 50million with this contract.
  6. As the resident Tribe fan here let me respond to this trade idea... ONLY if you include $75 Million to cover the cost of the Braun contract. Seriously. Explain why Cleveland or any other club is going to trade roughly 24 years worth of major league time for about 6 seasons worth in this day of prospect value. Maybe 15 years ago but not now. Not going to happen. On top of that the Tribe payroll is under $90 million at this point and that is with them paying dead weight money for Bourne, Swisher and Chris Johnson this year. Looking for them to pay even half the Braun contract is a longer shot then the Clowns (err Browns) going undefeated and winning the Super Bowl this next season. Again, not going to happen. You aren't taking in Lucroys value? I'll give you 18years for the value on Cleveland's side, for the 8 of Lucroy/Braun. Lucroy I'd expect a QO so there's 6yrs back. Taking the contract of Gomes off their hands? Elite Pitchers cost elite money. Team as constructed now? Not winning anything for 2seasons. What happens when Kluber, Carrasco command 24+mil each? Your window is short if your the tribe. Aiken/Hillman are less than 50% chance of reaching the Majors. You'll replace Hillman with the QO pick. This deal isn't overwhelming for what Braun/Lucroy can do for Indians offense these 2seasons while that Pitching over there is cheap. And Braun is still tradeable if 2016/17 don't produce a Championship.
  7. This is the kind of talk I want to hear. I said preseason I'd rather Jeffress try closer over Smith. The DL stint took care of that. He's older and GMs just fall over themselves for Closers. Having an individual with Closer experience? Voila instant upgrade in value. Is he Ken Giles value? No. But easily more than KRods value was. Happy for his success. There isn't a real reason to trade him this season unless it's momentous. You can trade him in off-season. His value can be on the rise. Taking just a good offer and the next topic to comments on will be did we trade JJ to soon? You want him before deadline? You give us a great offer.
  8. Eww so this mentioned on mlbs recap a side noteLacking quality: It's tough to lay much blame on Cravy, who made just one Triple-A start before a surprise call-up to pitch in Peralta's place, but his brief outing perpetuated the Brewers' starting pitching problems. Milwaukee's starters have a 6.34 ERA after 29 games, which would tie the 1939 St. Louis Browns for second-worst in Major League history. The 1996 Tigers own the worst starters' ERA of all time, at 6.64
  9. It's surprising to me where Sosa wound up. I remember one of his 60s HR years he had 20? alone vs Milwaukee. maybe even up to 22? I decided to look up Bonds and he's at 22. His highest is 87! vs the Padres. 65 vs Nationals. Maybe next question could be what's the top 10 HRs vs an opponent by single player. Looking at Hank Aaron I'd guess he'd be mentioned a few times. 4 teams of 87 or more. Cincy at 97!
  10. I recall TheCrew campaigning of Getting 4 #2/3s in rotation to lead a team through the season in to playoff potential. #3s are a 3.8 type ERA. 2s something like 3.4. I'd add 3s going 180IP 2s 195+ Aces better than 3.4 and over 200IP Fip would likely back up the ERA at least closer to it. Jimmy Nelson has the ERA working at a #2 but a Fip above a #3. Either way he's on pace to be 1 of those 2/3s the team needs to build on. Fip seems to get affected by HRs/lack of Ks or maybe by the K/BB rate. But Nelson is off to 6.6HITS per 9 in 6starts. But given up 7HRs. His FB/HR rate must be well up there(fangraphs has him at 20.6% vs 11.7% career) You'd assume that rate to come down which would also bring down that Fip. Other than that Brewers have 3 more spots to find that 2/3 to give you that 4man rotation that the Cubs possess only with a 1 to go with 3 other 2/3s. The guys in the Brewers minors are young. Time is on their side to improve. Lopez, Hader, Suter even WCWang. If Davies, Jungmann, and Anderson don't come around to represent a #3 status to slot in. Derby/Diplan/Ponce/Kirby/Miguel Diaz or Freddy Peralta. Yes these options are more 2018 and beyond. The Pitcher we may draft this year could be ahead of them if a top college arm. There are just so many arms right now to go off of. At some point a few other Jimmy Nelson's will emerge. Any SP that reaches AA to me has the chance to be called up skipping AAA. So to say the Single A guys have no chance to reach by 2018 doesn't apply to my thinking. Diplan especially continues to post quality numbers. Chance he's the best prospect of the entire lot.
  11. Reading more service time is read on days. 183days in a season. 172 make a full year. So there's the decimal up to .171. .172 would be the number flip. Now the Super 2 is described as top 22% of serviced time. So you'd likely get a variance number. For this past season it wound up being .130 which is said to have been a surprise as some names that likely were headed for .132+ didn't and brought .130 in to qualify. So it's fairly safe to guess around 125 days left in the season an Arcia call-up or Hader would happen. This is why I'm advocating for Arcia to be called up this season. If he's a September callup he'll accrue say .026 on service clock. Now for the Brewers to avoid his Super 2 status he'd have to stay down an extra month before getting called up. He's batting .300+ now in AAA. What are you going to say of what he needs to work on with those first 75days of the season next year? Should he get time in Sept?
  12. He is still arbitration eligible for 2017 and 2018 - so yes, he is controllable for a couple of years beyond 2016. He is still arbitration eligible for two more years? His MLB debut was 2010. How can he still have 2 more years of eligibility (and not be eligible for Free agency yet)? I'll never understand the timing process of arbitration and free agency eligibility. To make a little easier. My comprehension on service time is the decimals represent games in a season. So to list Carter at 3.159 means 3seasons and 159games/162 for 4. Which would make sense on a team control front. Houston would have gained a year at some point of time where his service time accrued to 159 and not flipping to 4years. The options with enough ML time would have stopped his clock. I really don't fully understand when service time results in another year of team control because 159 is closer than the 9games the Cubs held Bryant out to gain a full year of control. As of now Bryant has .171 service time in 177games played. Unsure why it's not 1.015. Guess at what time does service flip a year? But at least you would have some kind of idea what the decimal is reading...somewhat. maybe I'll research more to have a definitive answer.
  13. Thanks for finding that. FWIW, the Brewers are expected to sign the #29 and #30 ranked guys, Pablo Abreu (OF) and Jean Carlos Carmona (3B). I skimmed through and didn't see any other Brewers mentions. Braves, Cardinals, Padres and Nationals had lots of mentions. Phillies a few as well. Sounds like the Braves will be spending Mucho Dinero. The Reds had a mention of a 6million player for last year who didn't sign and is expected to get more this year. That has to blow them past the allotment. And that's just 1player whom the Padres are to sign 2 ahead of him in the rankings much less the other 4 or 5 they are linked to. There are the #2,4, and 13 on the list not linked to a team currently, though one of them was said was going to announce a signing in Feb and then did not. Cards of course also with 2 players of higher ranking than Brewers. So the surprise would come if the Brewers nab one of the 3 who aren't tied to a team. RHP 20-#2, OF 16-#4, CF/2b 21-#13. So via ages, I'd be more after the 16yr old than the 20/21 yr olds. I'd expect the RHP to ask for quite the amount as he's probably closer to ML ready.
  14. Santana hasn't been bad. He's met expectations. Maybe a SB or 2 off.But BA. HRs. Met. I'll be pissed if Arcia isn't playing this season. He's over .300 and .230+ is all he needs to warrant a ML call up. As said multiple times, team control means squat when you have a guy who's looking at a 10-13year contract extension. Which may happen this season! You want to trade Lucroy+Braun? Who's your franchise player? Arcia and a 10-13yr deal will make that known. Starting Pitching. That's what the team requires to become Playoff potential, not just competitive. 1 or Lucroy or Braun had better bring a TOR Starter. It's not a bad rotation with that TOR, Nelson, Hader+ Davies/Lopez/??? You don't need TOR through the rotation. But 2top and 3 adequate. Heck 2top and 2 adequate. Is more than enough. So far it's Nelson and 0adequate. Cubs gave up #1pick to sign Lackey/37yrs old. Doing well now. But come September/Playoffs? I expect them to be regretting the signing. The beyond Luck on Arrieta got them +8wins ahead of schedule/maybe 11 this year. What if Hader becomes 85% of Arrietta? That's enough with Nelson to start a healthy 1-2. 345 can be okay if you get that 1. For Cubs 5 is Hendriks(Davies equivalent). Hammel(Garza/Davies equivalent). 3=Lackey(FA signing? Or Prospect?).
  15. I have Santana oh my fantasy and update was hes having right shoulder tightness. With day game after night, just being safe. Maybe will lead to a scan.
  16. Off to a 1st place start in my league. Won all 4 H2H matchups. I drafted Lucas Giolito in the last round just to have a high upside SP Keeper for next season. Cueto won't be able to be kept due to our 3year Keeper Limit. I have Jose Fernandez and then no one of value. But looking at overall Innings Giolito hasn't really eclipsed 100IP in a season. So you figure he's capped at 135. He's off to a poor Whip start with less K/9. Now the guy I also considered in last pick Julio Urias was snagged ahead. He was let go last week and is available. But same caveat with Giolito, He's not eclipsed 90IP in a season. So one would assume 125IP come season's end. The Dodgers did use him in a bullpen roll his last Minors outing, which says to me they are limiting his innings for a potential call-up later in season. So I'm considering switching him with Giolito. Difference would be that Giolito if kept would be 22nd rd Keeper next season. Urias would be 17th rd. Also with Innings limits Giolito stands to be able to pitch more over the next 4seasons than Urias. Which of the two would you keep? I'm leaning towards Urias due to the K:BB ratio difference he has over Giolito. Portends to better potential at ML level to maintain his stats and not be overmatched.
  17. Maybe the team is just holding him down for team control which should be close to gaining that extra year if he so happened to stay on the ML roster. This is what happens when you play somebody in Sept. Why the Cubs didn't play Bryant in 2014 Sept and held him down to start 2015. Of course at the same time you give Reed some more AAA at bats to see if he's truly worthy of callup. Reality likely is. Kirk N has cemented himself at CF and will gain the majority of playing time. He fits the Trade Likely player and when that happens, Reed gets called up and Phillips is promoted to AAA. Not that expect any kind of real prospect in trading him. Probably a RP that may have the ceiling of AAAA.
  18. Dare I say lock him up for a few years if it continues? So long as it isn't 10-15 million per or something astronomical. Ain't like we have solutions at 1B anyway. That's just it. Failed to realize this. If he's under team control til 2019. Essentially we paid 2.5mil his last pre-Arby year. Or his first Arby year. So really 2.5 if pre-Arby is an overpay. And just about right for 1st Arby. He's ours until 2019 if we want him. He will go through the arby process which I would assume if he continues at the pace he is going, he'll be due for a pay raise.
  19. I'm sorry man but, reading this thread. The majority of your posts come off as a troll vs a BrewerFan. I don't get the point in any of them for wasting the time to type them. Guerra with the Win. 6IP. You're around 120 posts thus far which would leave me to believe you joined this site heading in to this season. Why if you're going to piss and moan about a team that's clearly in rebuild since a year ago? It's like the absolute worst time to join this site if you were expecting a 90win season talented team. This team is poorly put together. They win a game or two and the majority of the posters on here are ready for the playoffs. This is a bad team with a few good older players. Two of our vets will be gone shortly. That leaves a rag tag bunch of hopefuls The young ones are not exactly lighting it up. The pattern of letting a few go on failing and dragging the team down and then sending them to AAA is not build a team but a sign of poor evaluation of talent. We have a bad record, and will continue to - numbers don't lie. Well, injuries happen and Brewers suffered some serious blows. Rymer Liriano stood as as the highest floor CF I believe of the lot of OFs they've trotted out not named Braun/Santana. Matt Garza leads to a Guerra needing to start. JJ 1-2-3 shutdown in a role Will Smith was destined at. Corey Kneble. Where do you to improve the 25man? Corner OFs, 1b, C seem to be set. 2b as well. SS has a future that's to come. I said it elsewhere. Guys will be removed/replaced in a month and certainly by trade deadline. It's a trial and error season. The bad will eventually be released like Pena and like Freeman.
  20. You mistakenly took winning and being competitive as a Playoff team. As terrible as this team has appeared. we're as of now 11-15. Competitive would be .500. and winning is 82wins or more. Playoff team would be a 90win expectation to start a season. Minnesota won 83games last year. Far ahead of expectations. They are back on the losing side of things 8-19 thus far. I think Plush put out a response to Nottingham backing up Lucroy. Catchers for the most part aren't good batters or amount to a big WAR number. Posey last year 6.1. Next Stephen Vogt 3.5. Russell Martin 3.5. Francisco Cervelli 3.1. After that below 3. 5players total. To be about league average he just has to produce to about 1WAR. This is a 21year old stats you're passing poor judgement to who's seeing AA pitching for the 1st time. And he has 2HRs in 19games at that. This isn't like saying Nottingham to cover Lucroy and he's 26years old with production under .200 who's seen AA a season or three. This is an exciting year for Nottingham. 21 facing AA pitching. If he were at .275+ by season's end he'd easily be a top 100 prospect in baseball. There's a chance the Brewers #1 pick is older than Nottingham. That's how far ahead he is at this stage.

  22. The equivalent would be. Would you trade Arcia for Braun/Lucroy? Giolito is the Nationals next SP post Zimmermann and Strasburg. I'd honestly think Arcia+Lucroy and you may entice them to part with him. Probably need to include one of the OF prospects as well. And yes while Arcia is #4 to Giolito's #1. What Giolito projects is a Kershaw/Bumgarner type of front line pitcher. Outweighs Arcia or any position player in value. It's tough to compare Weeks as a prospect who didn't meet what would be #5 expectations when he had the injuries. As would be any top rated prospect. Jurickson Profar suffered multiple seasons of injuries. He's still young and posting solid numbers in AAA. But with all his lost time due to injury, he won't have a career that appears a #1 prospect worthy ranking. Heck, take Arcia. Being #4. He's going to be a defensive wizard. The bat has come along enough to rate him this high. But, should he wind up closer to Andrelton Simmons with the bat, he'll be a disappointment to the high regard. I think a majority of Pitcher prospects who get traded like Bauer and Shelby Miller, that are higher in prospect regard end up being the ones who's control is questionable. Giolito isn't questioned in that way. From Draft day this was a guy believed to be the next Nationals Ace. not a #2 or a #3. An Ace. Sean Newcombe is the highest SP prospect of recently traded. It was ironically for Simmons. And the knock towards him reaching his ceiling is cut down on his Walks. I believe the Rangers have once again gone elsewhere acquiring Bobby Wilson from Detroit. Fun trade idea. Cleveland. Yan Gomes has produced zilch since his 6year contract of 23mil. They have one of the overall top SP rotations in baseball. Send them Lucroy...and Braun. Get back their #1 prospect Bradley Zimmer. Brady Aiken. Justus Sheffield and Juan Hillman. You're eating some of Braun's contract by taking away Gomes from them. Aiken may always remain a bust but he could also turn in to TOR. And you get Sheffield/Hillman as backup pitchers to reduce the risk of a completely failed Pitching prospect acquisition. Maybe Gomes needs change of scenery. At least with acquiring him you still have 2 Catchers and don't have to run someone up before they're ready from the minors.
  23. Those that aren't optimistic are looking at current landscape. Remember the Lucroy trade potential of landing a TOR starter. Lucroy is covered by Nottingham. Arcia I'm not expecting 800+OPS. Anything in the 700s with Gold Glove defense will equal 4+WAR. Phillips the same. 700OPS w/+defense. Santana. Makes 4bats. Braun is 5. Nelson-Lucroy TOR Prospect-Hader- 2 SPs Lopez/Davies? We'd still have Jeffress,Smith,Kneble, and Blazek bullpen. With health yeah this can be a winning and more competitive team.
  24. Which at this point would be the case with any call-up. Now waiting til September to call them up and only get 30days out the prospect is wasting the 1st year by holding him down so long. I don't see how Arcia isn't knocking at the door he's batting above .300 appears to have hit his 3rd HR already. He's been ML ready defensively since 2014. What does he need to prove with ABs? He proved last year it's a lot better than anyone was expecting, and at this point having hit 3HRs and at 5:8 BB/K he's not striking out at an alarming rate so his .300BA should be something to reach at the ML level. Super 2 just is 4 years of Arb after the first 3years of control. Bring up Arcia now we will have pre arb 2016,17,18. First year of Arb 19,20,21,22 4 year of Arb. It's 7years of team control 6full plus what's left of this season. Now, again this matters if you honestly foresee the team going year to year with him which I do not. He's a franchise player. He'll be extended well beyond the 7years. The Super 2 part though if he'd qualify by being called up before it's cutoff would give his agent probably another 7-15million in talks of value. Don't call him up this season you have to wait til June again to avoid Super 2 next season. Call him up in May and he's a Super 2. Yes with team control til 2023 but he'll be more expensive than calling up in July this year. Now let's get Arcia batting .400 in AAA late August now what? Keeping him down would be bad for negotiations. Especially if you don't bring him up in Sept. and wait til you gain that 7th year like the Kris Bryant debacle last year. You do that to me, as I hope Bryant's agent does, I won't deal with you on an extension. Going to do the 7years and test Free Agency. With asinine Arb numbers. So he does bat up to .400 come Aug and you do the right thing promote him. Well, you've got him for 7seasons til 2022. But you've lost out on Aug/July and parts of June to see him play. Heck looking up Super 2 it may not even require a June wait but somepoint in May. Yes there are those that should be held down in the upcoming seasons for team control. But to start this rebuild with your #1 prospect and put controversy over his service clock is going to leave a bad taste in the future prospects/agent's mouths. This is a Franchise name much as Braun is/was. I'd expect 10seasons out of Arcia. Maybe more but 10 minimum. You want to see him get a start at 21? Or see him finish his 10years at age 32? Think age 21 will be more exciting than age 32.
