  1. Who would you keep more? J. Cueto at a 15th rd cost? Or Jeurrys Familia at an 18th rd cost? Also, Arenado at 4th rd 1st pick or Votto at 6th rd 1st pick? I'd also have the option to keep Starling Marte 3rd round 12th pick. 12 team League that I won last year so I'd pick 12/13,36(Marte),37(Arenado), 60,61(Votto) 84,85. I'm guessing smart would have to be Arenado. Really just seeking confirmation if there's better value with Votto or Marte. We Keep 2 Hitters/2Pitchers You would figure 20 of top 32 players overall. But then it gets mixed with lesser overall ranking in players due to the value you can keep them for draft. Like I could keep Familia at 18th round pick. As I'm keeping Corey Seager at 17th rd pick. Guess I just answered myself for Pitcher choices as Cueto would be 12th selection in rd vs Familia #1. So while 48 players are kept overall, it's not going to be the 48 best it'll be probably 32 of the best 48. 16 within next top 120. I could keep Marte and try to draft Arenado #12/13. Keep Arenado try drafting Marte/Votto 12/13. Something like that. I'd imagine none of the three make it to #36/37 if I don't keep them. But maybe Votto lasts that long?
  2. Situation 1 to me is Keep Correa you are blessed to have that ability. I'd have to choose Stanton as well. Situation 2 You obviously reduce Syndergaard and Keep Altuve. Proven Batting Champ right? And he'll have Correa batting around him. He may just go off for 125runs scored this year at .340+ Situation 3 You've got 5 great pitchers. You get to keep Syndergaard in this one so letting him go in #2 won't be that hard. You keep Abreu and Betts apparently who's got that 20/25 with high BA/Runs for a player meaning well rounded. It's become a Pitcher's League overall in baseball, so it makes sense why pitching is well regarded. I don't know how big Rodon will be. But over Betts I could see the longer term Keeper situation as it doesn't seem like Betts is going to be truly elite in a single category of HRs/SBs just a handy number. The only problem for me is keeping 6 pitchers. You'd have to have a plan of maybe trading one for a better player to keep later on than Betts. Snagging an Altuve or Correa for personally offering Strasburg of your list in #3.
  3. This is what I read somewhere that the rotation is going to be this way. No Davies. With Garza, part of trading for him which I'm sure will happen is his 5million:potential 1million option. Either or that is well below standard. That is going to have value so long as he appears 4.5era or less in results.
  4. Bundy may have the Ace stuff if puts it together but when do you reap that. Soft guessing 65-80IP this year. Year 1. You get 30-35 additional innings so 95-115IP Year 2 125-150 year 3 155-185 Arb 1 185-220 Arb 2. He's traded then if he happened to avoid injuries his final year team control when he'd finally reached Ace numbers. Ask Brett Anderson how avoiding injuries is working out for him? Prime example of talent that never takes the field when you need him. 1 3-5months Anderson type injury wipes out a year of that Aggressive Innings rise. I see it being Milwaukee never gets 1full season of him starting. And needing an injury during those 2 Arb seasons to last for Playoffs. How long does he maintain his stuff, and velocity? 93 becomes 90 that 5th year. So he's got that to overcome not losing too. He's publicly rated #1prospect by BA. He won't be a piece thrown in a trade.
  5. Boomer said: If Bundy shows that he pitch to a sub 4 ERA and 150 innings in 2017, he will be worth a ton as a trade chip, certainly more than Braun would if they hold on to him past 2017. The Brewers are in a somewhat unique position where they can develop him at the major league level because who cares what he does or doesnt do this year? Again, I am not suggesting he be the prime target in a trade, but merely an interesting piece to add and if we can unload Brauns contract and pick up someone of his potential, that is what a team in our position does. Unless you want to ride Braun into the ground paying him top dollar to hit in the 3 hole for a very bad team the next 3 years? Boomer, Bundy has pitched a grand total of 167Innings since drafted. 103.2 of them happened way back in 2012 before missing all of 2013 to TJ. So he's pitched 63 innings in 3seasons. I will jump off a roof if he pitched 150innings as Professional for some team in 2017. It's not happening. He's not going to throw 46.1 more innings than he's ever pitched after just 63IP in the 1st two years after TJ. And that's the point. If you believe Bundy can get 150 by 2017, Matt Garza can throw 240IP this season. That's how big a leap it'd be for Bundy. Every time Bundy takes to the mound this year past just 50IP will be the first time his TJ arm has gone that far. He's going to get shutdown like all TJ pitchers do at a certain point. My guess was 65IP you start thinking about it. You're talking as a ML SP alternating 4ip/5ip he'd get you to 15Games Started where he crosses that threshold. If he's so great to be, you protect your asset and not overextend his arm. I could envision another 5starts stretching him to90IP as peak best case. That's going on him being healthy over a season. Of course you do that in his 20games started you've asked the bullpen to cover 90IP as well. 80+minimum. Are you trying to win on the season or willing to tax your AL bullpen on a team I believe devoit of an Ace to rest those taxed arms. As someone said, Os best plan will be to DL him, have him go through a minors stint in rehab, fake another injury, give him 30days off. Then restart another rehab stint. Just to hide him off their 25man.
  6. The problem as to having Ace potential, is he has no place to harness that potential except at the ML level. How likely is that when he's going to have 60-75 IP limits raised by 30IP a season? You're talking Year 6 of team control if we're lucky to see 30+GS of Ace potential. I just think he's facing a long uphill battle just to get to the 30Games starting ability much less showing Ace in his performances. Damaged goods that need to hold together at least 4 years to reach that type of player. He'll be ripe for 2nd TJ likelihood about then. And to me, Ace is somebody who pitched 220+IP for a team. 185 isn't Ace even if he's got under a 3.25ERA. There's just going to be such an innings limit problem while having to remain on a 25man roster that a team is going to put him in the bullpen. Pitching to 1-5batters isn't going to lead to a burdgeoning ace.
  7. Garza starting opening day gives 35 Games started a possibility. No way does he start Opening day. His option is all the more reason to have him be #5 but I'll peg him as being #4 because as schedules go early season, the #5 SP doesn't have to pitch all too often. Nelson should be Opening Day SP. Peralta #2. Let's put Anderson #3 Garza #4 and Jungmann/Davies #5 when it is figured out....Lopez may bump in to rotation too. Team should just adopt 6man rotation since some Pitchers are to be on Innings Limits. That 6 starters would also reduce Garza's starts as the season wore on. If I were manager and there's 8 battling for top 5 I'd say well, 5 of you go out there and make me pencil in a 5man rotation. But for now it's 6man. Of course if one Starter has a fluky outing or gets injured, it'll be easy to put that Tomorrow's starter in and we have our 5man rotation in that situation until it rotates through 6men again. As to Garza's trade value if he reverts to form again to career avgs, Mike Fiers was traded rather easily. I'd put Garza's career norms to be about that. The pricetag is higher so not as well a return but the way he's read here, we don't want any return just rid that contract.
  8. Do you understand the details of Brauns contract? That he got 10mil up front. 18million is deferred? He makes a total hit of 15million in a year. That's not even worth the QO. Teams are giving up their 1st unprotected draft pick for players that turned away 15.8mil. Brauns worth that top 50prospect. I don't believe there is one currently. Braun has health concerns to consider for his contract. That to me is the pause in creating an offer anywhere near what if I'm Stearns am asking for. I'd guess any trade discussion discussed for Braun was what would need to headline a trade for him. After a reply a top 50+ another top 80-120 type prospect. When you're ready to talk you know my number. At this point, the discussion ends because Brauns health concerns+contract is too risky until he plays and proves he's less of a health risk. Thats part of the problem regarding a Bundy. He has to make the roster or its a fiasco. Can Braun prove he is healthy enough for the O's to make a deal with Bundy being part of it by the end of spring? See, the fiasco is how will the Os handle Bundy. I'm thinking Sean Nolin he gets waived or traded but not for anything better than a #4SP/Swingman type of reliever. They have 0power in trade talks. You keep Mr. Bundy and his 10-40IP arm on your ML roster or waive him. Why trade for him? His ceiling? He's dead-weight on a ML 25man for at least 2 seasons. So you waive him and try to outright him to the minors? Wrong he's getting claimed. The more I think of his situation the less I'd consider even trading. But to consider Braun or Lucroy to get him is ignoring Bundys last 4years and trying to relive his draft value as his trade value. I'm thinking Bundy will be lucky to have 250IP through Brauns 2020contract end. Not 800+ to create maybe equal value or better than Braun.
  9. 10. According to Fangraphs, Braun had a FA value last year of 22.7mil. He's moving from his obvious weaker and detrimental to WAR value RF back to LF. He won't be pegged down so hard on defense value and with an offensive year similar to last his value rises to 25mil+ in FA dollars. The contract is very much a cheap contract and will only become cheaper as another season passes. Taking on an out of options Bundy is not worth Braun sorry. Bundy at this point is like taking back Daniel Hudson and hoping he gives you innings. He's pitched less than 100innings in the last 3seasons. He doesn't even have over 103+IP as a professional in a single season. Starter? good luck. He's a Reliever having no options. I don't even think he could give a team this year as a RP 55innings. We should get him plus prospects for Chase Anderson alone. Because with him having to turn in to a Reliever, he's pitched in 45games his entire professional career. He'll have to pitch in more than 45games to get you 55IP. How's that injury riddled body going to hold up to that? Dylan Bundy is a yes if it costs Anderson, Garza, or Jungmann. Bundy will have to be DL'd 4 or 5times on 15day where he's getting starts in the minors as a recovery term to have a chance because having him on that 25man is going to be wasting space to the tune of WCW.
  11. Especially after the Cubs traded Starlin Castro who was the only player blocking Russell and while not special, would be hard to sit down for Russell. Kinda like Segura trade making room for Arcia in very near future. Happened a year earlier though.
  12. Nate I'm probably with ya on being just a 1b/DH. But that bat....I just believe it's too highly thought of to be traded away. It's an obvious far better bat than Yuni B ever had in his best years, and teams put up with his atrocious defense at SS! For it. You'd have to be offering a legit #2SP with Ace potential to pry his bat away from me at this point. The AL teams with DH place to put Schwarber just don't present that drooling type. Plus you have that DH talk. Cubs got their guy if that happens. He's gotta be terrible and costing Cubs wins with his defense to force the GMs hand in to trading him.
  13. Here's all I care about Flores. Bye, bye Logan Schafer. That is what was being played after injury as 4th OF. Without a doubt the Broxton/Liriano backup and Flores is a better backup for use on the roster. Are you delaying a guy like Reed from taking the field? in terms of team control yes. You pick up Liriano who likely wasn't expected to be on this assembled Roster/depth prior to it happening. Maybe he turns out. Maybe Broxton turns out. Flores. But what you don't do is continue Reed's clock in a lost season. Braun is in the subject here as someone to trade. If/when that happens, all these bodies are better depth for backups than the team has had Parra withstanding. As to LF/RF makes no difference. Yes it does. The jump on the ball is a huge difference. As well as knowing the strength of the ball hit. I've read it critical of Braun in RF on his routes and jumps. Go ahead stand in the OF on both sides and tell me which side is easier to tell how hard and where the ball is heading off the crack of the bat? There are more RHBs than LHBs. So a RHB hitting a ball to RF is going to be tougher to determine it's direction+power. Braun a 3b then LF wouldn't have had the experience on how Opposite field hits are except from what the rare LHBs gave and we all know how great shifts have become because the inabilities of lefties to go to Left field and why not? A ball down the RF line pulled by a lefty could mean 3b. A ball hit opposite field to LF maybe results in a 2b at best. Repetitions and experience is what Braun needed for RF. Santana already has that going for him. As does Braun in LF. makes perfect sense.
  14. Cubs just gotta love this. Here's a 15.8mil QO. Declined. Here's a 8mil contract with 9mil option for next season re:2/17mil or 5mil buyout re 1/13mil. They got him for far less than if he'd just accepted the QO. Sure they could make a trade now at some point during the season, say if Soler outperforms him, Schwarber is terrible behind the plate and you gotta keep him as an OF. Neither play well, Fowler gives them a higher floor, as does Montero. This season will help determine where these youngsters belong on the field. Zobrist as Baez bat protection. Montero, Fowler, and Zobrist any of them can be traded easily when/if the youngsters lay claim to the position.
  15. Prince Fielder 2007 matched Khris Davis with 20 also. Looking at Gorman Thomas 21HRs in 1979
  16. With all the trades completed, why the haste to trade Smith? The notion teams will come to their senses and not trade for RPs overvalueing them in offers isn't happening any time soon. Not before Smith's team control is up. I think in this lost season being able to turn the ball over to Jeffress, Smith, and Kneble and close out wins is a positive for the young pitching. Personally, you find your closer among the three and he becomes the player to be traded, dead-line/next off-season while keeping the other 2. Smith isn't a guy that would be gone " when the team is competitive again" Hes got 4years remaining. It'd have to be lights out in return if I'm trading him. Besides he's great around fans that Will Smith letters promo is fun to continue promoting. Think he's just a great bullpen presence and that could be the difference of a Bullpen ERA under 4 with him here, and bullpen ERA above 5.5 with him gone. I just feel he's a guy with a top 100prospect in return and an upside to get a top 50prospect in return with another strong year especially if he does so as closer. We've been making the proper bullpen trades getting rid of Houser etc. Guys who've not even established a season at ML level. I'm really curious whom the team throws out there for closer. Smith has the best history to be that guy. But in this 100loss potential team do you reduce his workload when team has 5game losing streaks multiple times in season? And rather save Kneble/Jefferson for those stretches while getting Smith 70games+ as 8th inning shutdown. The rest of the bullpen isn't as important to me who they use. Just run the hot hand. Team has an abundance of bullpen options beyond those 3. Assuming Thornburg+Blazek as more locks. Pena to me will get let go due to no options and not really deserving of a spot compared to others.
  17. Best to me has to be signing Carter at 2.5mil. Just have a feeling he'll hit 25+HRs before deadline and get traded netting something popular. Really all the moves I'm happy with. Getting rid of Davis to me Opening playing time for Santana(now that CF has bodies to have reduced it) and likely move Braun back to LF. Going to be a big net positive defensively. Worst move? Man, I'm pleased with it all. I think the worst move will be to come and that's who they keep out of all these extras and who they let go. Walsh? Cecchini? Middlebrooks? Hill? Not gonna lie but if Walsh is succeeding in ST and Hill is not? I'd rather have Walsh than the maybe trade value gain Hill "could make"
  18. The still to early lineup list. 1. CF winner 2. Braun 3. Lucroy 4. Santana 5. Carter 6. 3b winner 7. Villar 8. Gennett/2b. 9. Pitcher. Seems easy enough. No reason to put another batter ahead of Braun/Lucroy. Santana has long term over Carter single season. So he gets to bat cleanup. I'd figure teams throw less junk to Santana with Carterbehind than To Carter with Santana behind. I give 3b next but maybe Villar deserves 6? Gennett&2b clear 8 regardless. So figuring Villar SB ability I'd rather have Gennett bat behind him as hit and run order.
  19. That's tough. Because Schwarber may get booted as Catcher. His bat is a plus yes but he won't steal bases. Premium Catcher for 2seasons guaranteed but then you may lose that and have OF/DH. I haven't sat back and looked at projections for all three. I'd assume Bryant/Arenado would be drafted earlier than Schwarber but with Catcher eligibility, maybe I'm wrong. If your #8 that's 8, 18, and 34th picks if snake? Or 8, 21,34? Would he be around to draft(wisely+value) at those selections to get? Anyone in the league really high on him&want him where they're not letting anyone get him if he's available.. like you've done with Braun? How's the scoring go within the league?
  20. That would not prevent a team from rebuilding, or tanking as you call it. I keep asking, what would Stearns have done differently if a rule like this was in effect? Do you think he wouldn't have traded Lind, KRod, Segura, Davis, etc.? Do you think he still wouldn't try to trade Lucroy, Braun, and others even if it was guaranteed he would have no 1st round pick in the 2017 draft? Finally, I think it's odd that this has become a topic of debate suddenly this year, when teams have been rebuilding/tanking for decades. I don't see what the problem is, it's up to each team to do what's best in their situation. Has always been that way, always should be that way. That's why I mentioned it being put to a vote among the owners. I don't see the moves Stearns has made as weakening the team. I would not be surprised if they won 72-75games. I'd be surprised if they only won 60-64. Lind is/was a platoon bat. KRod a closer among many who've been traded this offseason, Segura is blocking the team's #1 prospect, Davis is a replacement level player with no defense upside and a .240s BA. I'd find it hard for more than 5owners to vote the Brewers tanking much less 15+. Now, if you look at BRef, every baseball team has a 60+mil estimated payroll. This isn't the under 40mil payrolls Houston and Miami tanked with in previous seasons. Or like the Brewers tank payrolls in early 2000s. So I agree this "Tank" dilemma is being brought about by certain people with their own propaganda.
  21. I said it elsewhere, the simple change to fix drafting/tanking is retraction. You could probably reduce 8teams of course it must be the 8lowest markets/team value teams. Instead of revenue sharing the Pitts/Milw of the world. You're sharing money to Houston/St Louis/Philly of the world. Avg team payroll will be 200million if not more then. Your draft cycles every 22picks. You've removed Hundreds of Lucroy type talent wasting away on a losing team to wind up playing on a Texas w/o costing any prospect to acquire him. Every one of the 22teams will have so much talent nobody can tank because there's no need to. If you're not going to do that, then you have no argument on tanking and being concerned on it. When teams can only have 110million payrolls before losing money vs a team that can have a 1billion payroll and not lose money. You can't sit there and expect every resource spent attempting to improve the ML roster while relying on the less than40% crapshoot of your drafted players. Now I think another way to end tanking would be to penalize teams their #1draft pick if a majority vote of owners believe your organization tanked. The Marlins tanked multiple times. It was obvious. I'd say the Reds tanked last season. And again this season. They finished the season with a Rookie SP staff. Traded one of the best IF in Frazier away. Why couldn't they extended him like Votto? Maybe the Reds could be the argument against not "tanking" A GM fills the roster with high priced extensions and try to win and completely failed aside from one season of playoffs. Why not just attack Oakland/Toronto/Arizona instead for their willingness to take our supposed ML players to aid us in "tanking" shame on them to better their ML team by helping to weaken our Starting roster. They should have either overpaid a FA or bring up their best prospect at that position. Regardless is single A or AAA. Boras wants that Service clock ticking as well as his FAs to all be paid
  22. I don't think that is a good example. If he doesn't care I guess he will never be any good with that attitude. Also why are we freaking out over Josh Hader's huge fall league performance, but if Santana does poorly it is nothing? Seems like it should go both ways. Santana made a brief ML appearance in 2014. And some more in 2015. He's got a great AAA line. Him having to prove himself at his winter ball is past. Hader on the other hand has 0 games played at AAA much less ML. He needs to show up and attempt to show some kind of learning or improvement. Can also say Hader had just 104IP vs the 123 he had the season before. His arm had innings to throw. Santana 126games 460PAs vs 147 598PAs. So it stands with reason the young man may have been tired. Hader's arm didn't have that reason. On to the subject of Tanking and was it Olney who's upset at what Milw has done to fit his idea of the team tanking. So in a perfect world with the team trying to acquire winning talent through ML player trades/signings. We should still have Gomez +9mil. Lind +8mil. Segura +3mil. Gone after a FA SP. Kept KRod +7.5mil. Fiers would still be on team. So let's see: 50mil+27 or 77mil. We'd probably have picked up a Doug Fister on a 2year deal for 18mil vs the 1/7. And now we're a 90win team and not tanking right? Obviously wouldn't have a single one of the younger players. So let's build a maybe 80win team at 85-100mil payroll. And have a minors club ranked near the bottom so to satisfy not tanking. Next year after we'd have lost Gomez, Krod, and Lind we'd put Reed/Taylor in CF. Rogers would be at 1b. Segura would be traded for Arcia to play SS. We'd sign a 3b. Still have a mediocre Staff. No depth. spend somewhere 85-100mil on payroll sell the team as a winning squad that can compete with the near 100win Central teams after not doing so the prior 2seasons. Hey we ain't tanking. Aint winning also but we keep giving the college try. Nah we don't want that. So let's change the rules now that the Cubs are 100win team of what looks like the next decade. We can't let what they did work for other franchises. We gotta stop this. Want it to be fixed? Retract to 20 Teams. Have 40man rosters vs 25man. Eliminate the bottom 10markets so 150+Million payrolls. Or, just let it be. Milwaukee won't have 35year olds getting starts. Signing 33year old+ to fill your team to me would be tanking. Playing AA players would be tanking. Giving AAA guys and under 28year olds shots at playing, isn't tanking. It's called being young and needing time for talent to lead to wins.
  23. Some MLBTR also had Stearns saying he was done making moves until ST. Chris Carter is a 1year deal 1b. Who cares what he does? Just please be healthy enough to play 140+games. It's a rebuild year.Get Carter, and 200ks or Morneau and .275BA with under 24HRs ? Are we to build a 74win team or a 69win team. Does that matter ? When was the last time 74wins won the World series ? Never? What!?! I'm shocked! Forget your expectations of a properly built team by your standards. Talent has been acquired and people are birching about them. Forget your opinion with F emphasized. And let the damn talent get a chance. Are we really holding back minor leaguers from deserving jobs?
  24. How fun to base the opinion of Santana because of winterball. Ignore the fact he was at what? Game 155-200 on his year playing on 5th team? Maybe the guy just didn't care but fulfilled being there. Braun's going nowhere. Lucroy isn't going anywhere til July at earliest. While this offense could produce bad(CF,3b) Villar won't be 2015 Segura bad. And there's a chance these throwaways actually produce. Liriano just has far too positive AAA numbers to suggest he's 100% going to be terrible. If so, there's a half dozen CFs to throw in the lineup to find one that's not terrible. As mentioned the pitchers are better and have upside to the general prediction. Even there you have options to find the hot hand. It's not Garza is 6ERA and we must endure 33starts of it. 10-12 and he's under 4ERA or else he's gone.
  25. Up til his HR barrage in his final 194ABs Davis had 7/198ABs and was at 1/21.4 ABs on his career. I'll hold him to be closer to his 1/21AB avg for HRs vs the current 1/17.2 Add him as mentioned going to Oakland probably around 1/27. Josh Donaldson went from 24&29HRs for Oak, to 41 and MVP for Toronto. Davis is 22&27 here likely headed to 18-23 there. We simply cashed out on him before he lost his value. Maybe I'll be wrong and Davis can continue hitting HRs about 1/20ABs. But at .240s BA with lack of Defense getting Arb raises which will be overvalue tied to the HR rate, he just wouldn't net a good return.
