Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
How about Colorado come knocking and offering up some worthy prospects? They have Mark Reynolds playing 1b, Nick Hundley+Tony Wolters as their catchers. While Colorado has to be waiting on Gray+Hoffman to join the ML roster, they do have promising young arms that you could pair with a blocked at 3b Ryan McMahon. Kyle Freeland, Mike Nikorak, and Peter Lambert are future starters with some promise. This is more of a Trade Deadline to offseason proposal. But should Colorado be in the playoff hunt with adding Gray or Hoffman to the rotation, Lucroy would fit in nicely over the guys currently residing as Colorado's C/1b. It'd be a big upgrade to have him in their lineup. -
Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)

I think Tate can be crossed off on the trade prospects. He's off to a 10.2 0ER 1bb-16K start to the season. #4 pick in last years draft and he's doing this? I'd advance him up a level after just 1 more start of this quality. He could be in AAA by year's end and a SP for Texas by next season. Lucroy isn't enough to get that kind of prospect. I personally think the ask for is/was Joey Gallo. All those concerns of his Ks and defense are something that a rebuilding team like Milw could take the risk on for the reward potential. If he didn't play a good 3b you can try 1b or at worst if his bat was quality trade him to an AL team to use at DH. Matuella is coming off TJ surgery shortly. No reason to put him in high regard as trade prospect. Mazara being 20 and off to the start he's showing makes him worth more than Lucroy. Brewers don't have a use for Brinson with Phillips. Leaves Luis Ortiz as the best Texas Prospect within reason to trade for Lucroy if your Texas as the headliner. Then you're left with hopefuls that just need time to put it all together. I don't believe you want that if your Stearns on Lucroy trade. The hopefuls aren't HR type prospects like Tate, Gallo, and Mazara are. Ortiz has that weight issue hanging over him. I find it very unlikely the Brewers end up trading with the Rangers anymore. -
5years to take on? No way. Can wait a year or even 2 to make the same deal. Different sport but Eddie Lacy shown how bad some extra weight can turn you. He's gotten back to a healthy weight thus far and Packer fans are enthused, months before he can prove the difference, which is plenty of time to regain all the weight back. I'd wait this season while letting the Cecchini/Walsh/Rivera experiment complete. We'll get to see Lacy's bod perform or not and can take a cue from there if trying to get Panda to slim down can lead to brighter days on his performance. This rebuild is only to be 2seasons, 3 at latest, Panda's contract exceeds that. That is a risk not worth taking.

BP article on Peralta's struggles
brewcrewdue80 replied to QuevedosTongue's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
It's time to make a move and send him down. This isn't a hiccup type of starts he's going through. He's failed to pitch in to the 6th Inning! in 8 of his last 10starts. 44.2IP in those 10 starts. 2QS. Those other 8 31.2IP 31ERs That would be 4IP/4ER on avg per start. When 4Runs is the magical number in baseball, he's allowing the other team to reach that in 4IP. That is in 1/3rd of a season of starts he's allowed this. He's had 92 starts thus far in his career. In a season of long leashes and finding out who's going to stick and who's going to get left behind, Peralta is at a stage where we know what to expect from him. Doesn't need a trial to showcase what he's got. Time to move him from starter to bullpen and with that move, he needs to be in the minors learning this bullpen life that he doesn't know. Jorge Lopez, Zach Davies, Guerra and Suter are more deserving of ML starts this year now than Peralta is. -

2016 Minor League Regular Season Transaction Thread

Injury concern was what I listed on my predraft analysis seeing his Max Effort look on delivery. Hopefully this doesn't become a regular occurence on his body. -
Gotta say. Boring Masters overall. Spieths 1st rd, Willets final round. Scoring otherwise not there. Nobody was putting a 65/66 out there. And that left it dull. Tournament of Attrition.

If Counsel's thinking, "well we have an off day tomorrow, everyone in the pen is available, and with just 4 starters, lets limit Jungmann's innings", I think it's wrongheaded. Or, it's Jungmann's 1st start to the season. The Avg SP pitch count their first start is likely 14-21pitches less than what will be their Season avg. It's why I'm not a fan of Spring Training starts going 1-2IP the first and maybe second starts in spring. You are so cautious that you just don't ramp them up to go 100-115pitches that first start. Any SP pulled in the 1st 2 starts that would be earlier than expected, I just look at it as being on a pitch limit. When Start 3 happens, then you can start calling out the manager on his SP pulling.

I'm glad the Pena experience is hopefully over. Certainly wasn't 25man worthy. He is not somebody I want to sit through waiting to improve. He's never increased talentwise since being acquired. Good riddance. Sadly the team seems to have picked up a guy with equal lack of control but it cost cash. I expect his leash to be short. Just gotta get through this period with Smith and Knebel on DL. The minors guys to show readiness vs being thrown to the wolves. But for Pena out of options, the club tried and got what was to be expected.

If I recall. Dbacks traded Bauer due to his attitude. Cleveland had issues too with his pregame warmups. His Long Tossing inbetween starts? Still poor attitude in his way of doing things vs. how teams want him to do things. I'm surprised he'd have 5years left of team control. I feel like he's been around for 3years already. I don't know about risking any of our prospects with promise for him. Tyrone Taylor type of prospect sure. But Monte Harrison type? No way. I'd want one of those PTBNL deals where its performance based on the kind of prospect return Bauer would command if I made a trade. The idea would be is this a Jake Arrieta potential or a Will Smith bullpen potential. Anything less would be pointless to trade away prospects for.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/first-mock-draft-march-30/#SVTXLldxLWVTuCDk.97 BA had their first mock posted. And your new Brewer is....Delvin Perez "Milwaukee has not shied away from the high school demographic in recent years, taking prep players with its first pick in each of the last four drafts. Brewers scouting director Ray Montgomery previously served in the same position for Arizona, and notably used the Diamondbacks’ first six picks of 2014 on high school players. Perez’s massive upside could be too much to pass up on here." Really I'm just reading, BA has no clue what Milw will do, there aren't good rumors to tie them to anyone and based off of past 2 years here's the guy to fit Milw's pick. Massive upside apparently. A video I watched he went from back of the plate front foot to ahead of the plate front and back again. Had a solid stance a little less wide than maybe would want but looked stable. Then watching another video he's got the batter's box stance as wide as can be. So I dunno. He doesn't have a basic approach. May be tinkering with his approach a long time. Awkward to figure out. I'd be a little pause that he's always going to try tinkering and go through spells of bad. He's fluid looking defensively, strong arm so how the bat comes along will be his ceiling. Add: I'll add that I don't recall seeing one ball hit center field and opposite field. All pulling.

Wasn't the Duke game about the same? Biggest play to me was Happ scoring. ND loses the ball in the scramble Hayes is shown diving for the ball but is shoved as he prepares to dive for the ball, overshooting it, and the ND guy that should have had foul called instead lands on the ball, Happ happened to land on his head sadly getting his 5th foul to foul out. Wonder the outcome had that play been called correctly. Badger ball w/o made free throws and Happ still playing.

Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Name your Catchers better than Lucroy. I couldn't name 10. Probably a hard time naming more than 5. The easiest to name is Buster Posey. Yadier Molina has aged and coming off injury seasons himself he at least Used to be better than Lucroy. Salvador Perez I'll name better than Lucroy. That's it. 3 players. 30 teams. 90% of MLB teams could improve their roster at C by getting Lucroy. Injury worries or not. He's a major upgrade on well over 50% of catchers in baseball. And a modest upgrade over a 1/3rd of them. This goes on as saying why I'm not a fan of selecting a catcher 1st round of drafting as someone was being touted for selection last year. We have arguably the 3rd best catcher in baseball and that's for .770OPS/109OPS+ over 710games in 6seasons and 15.8BWAR. Sure there are a few catchers that can be argued in Lucroy's grade, but they haven't proven their position. D'Arnaud, Mesoraco, Schwarber, Norris, Grandal and maybe Vogt. That is still putting Lucroy 10th if you try ranking these guys ahead of him. It's why Stearns needs a HR prospect offer. He's giving up Elite for the position in baseball. It's like giving up Madison Baumgarner or Anthony Rizzo when you talk about the comparison of value to position. -
The Rotation is what will matter between 100losses and 82wins. I don't look at this team and see 2-1, 3-2 wins really 4-3/4-2 wins. That level of pitching would bring 82wins in to play. Truth is, I see that magic 4run total for wins/losses and whether we win 5-4 or lose 6-4. Based on last year's team you can't believe the bad batting by all to averages will continue. That team avg 4.04 runs to League avg 4.25. 33runs total behind. You raise your OB pct up with subtracting Davis/Segura and just believe the runs will come out to League Avg at least. So does the Rotation provide enough 3run or less type games or do they perform to 4.55runs against League avg 4.25 again? I'm not as worried about the bullpen as others as I like Kneble a lot to go with Jeffress and Smith. I also see no reason to expect Smith traded this year. Still 3years of team control After this season. He closes this year to the tune of under 3ERA like his numbers have been, he'll only increase his value. And I believe that value stays even if he plays all of 2017 with Milw before traded his final 2seasons. The expense once 2018 season has started likely starts to eat away his value but not until. Milwaukee in my opinion ought to just hold him through his team control. You would have to offer a better than Lucroy offer for me to want to trade him. 26,27,28,29 his age before Free Agency. Expense would be the only thing you take a pass on him for. Elite Closer he'd likely get 14+million his final year and I could be off by 5mil. maybe. Now, Jeffress while having the same team control, is 3years older. So he'll be 32 his final season of team control. He'd be my real Closer with Smith setting up just because I'd want to increase his trade value while limiting an elite closer like Smith's numbers suggest he can be. Just way too much Undervaluing of Smith like he's KRod to be vs. the young, legit Bullpen arm teams need. Including ours. Think Wade Davis for KC. Smith is this team's Wade Davis and we have that for another 4seasons. Thinking about Smith's value even more it's more than Lucroy in honesty. I'd bet Smith outperforms Lucroy over the next 4years in terms to total value brought to the team. Back to subject. It's such a shame Liriano is forced to miss games. Of the pickups the team has gotten, he was probably carrying the highest floor of them all. I hope Villar gets it together. I fear with him and 3b could really tank the lineup if they don't. It's just going to be an interesting season because expectations are of that 70wins vs the 77-84 potential over the last few seasons. Any good play will be a surprise. And poor-average individual play will just be "well that's a 70win team player" expected.

Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Interesting. So Braves/Astros 3team deal was in the works. With Astros working on Lucroy. I wonder how the Braves were attempting to work in to the deal based on how they've been in rebuild trades as well. I'd think maybe Hill was on table to be sent to Atl? Maybe it's taking Jason Castro from Houston? I just feel that a 3team trade may have cost some of the Brewers value, But then again maybe the pedigree of prospect is higher coming from Atl. According to MLB ranks 8 of their first 12 prospects are Pitchers. With Houston only 5 of first 12. With all this talk of Lucroy's failed trade deals, it's fairly reasonable to see him traded within due time. It'll come down to Houston/Texas where a slow start by their catchers especially if hurting them in winning games will create the Reactionary trade that isn't prominent to this point. Lucroy is very consistent and clutch. And in the AL where there'll be 100more PAs potential for him he can accrue some wins over who's he replacing. -
If Colin Walsh has OF experience I'd use him as 5th OF/backup 2B. With Rivera playing well He's gotta be your SS/3b backup to Villar/Hill. Now you have Wilkins backup 1b/Main Pinch-hitter if HR needed vs Walsh if baserunner needed. Middlebrooks is an afterthought like Kirk/Presly. You have a extra Pitcher in your bullpen. Based on Peralta/Anderson ST. You may need to pitch 5-6Innings of relief on their starts. And Blazek that former long man has some bettering to do to feel comfortable covering extra innings.

Lucroy Trades/Proposals (part 2)
brewcrewdue80 replied to Austin Tatious's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Which won't happen when he gets another concussion, hence the urgency to get something for him. See Mike Matheny and Corey Koskie. That is some immense fear thinking and concern. Because it happened in the past to some .1% of the history of baseball players it's going to happen to Lucroy. You have 1.6seasons to trade him or as mentioned you QO him and take the pick that comes to you. Just relax those fears. This is post Sliding or bulldosing in to the catcher being allowed. Foul balls in to the face and/or a bad pitch like Liriano just took off the face are the worries and it's just too much to stress about. If the GMs all thought of this risk, the sport would no longer exist. -
You're welcome. Stanton is about power you think 40+ HRs. Arenado hit 42 last season. Looking at ESPNs projection has just 5 3b with 30+ and then it's 16-22. The OF mix is pretty barren for power but when I look to make a team I prefer the better bats at 1b/3b over OF. Always believed the injury potential was far greater for an OF than the IF corners. Fielder after 162 game seasons had his injury 2014. Played 158games last season. Also the 4OF slots. When you get an injury you can pick your poison generally among FAs. The OF with Avg, Power, SB, Run the category your team is weaker you can find that replacement. When you go to 3b/1b you never have that SB/Avg to pick from. They wouldn't be on FA if they possessed either. Teams carry strong 4th OFs but not strong 1b/3b because they'd be starters based on the dearth of quality 1b/3b. Just a thought on strategy. You also figure if OF is more prone to injury top OF prospects especially come September are likely to get called up and get a crack at performing. Michael Conforto-Avg, Domingo Santana-HR, Byron Buxton-SB types. I look at projections on Harvey/Strasburg and the only real category Strasburg wins is Ks. And I'm not sure it's going to be that way. Believing Harvey will have better K pace than projected. And with his no doubt Innings rise that pace may beat Strasburg's total. So the ERA/Whip plus extra Out to that line of such turns out being better overall to choose him.
-
Correa is a lock. Stanton or Arenado would be 2nd. I'd pick Arenado due to Coors+Stanton's injury history. 3b over OF. Good chance you could grab at least 1 of McCutchen/Votto if not both with 1st 2 picks. Stanton would be a reach assuming you're #8/13 As to Pitching, Harvey is a lock to me. I'm surprised at Price's overall numbers last season, didn't realize how great he was. I guess you keep him too. But Strasburg I'm not as high on. If you've got Whip as a category I think Harvey outpaces him as does Grienke. Only thing to Grienke is how does he adjust to new ballpark as well as performance when not in a contract year? I'd be heavy on Harvey and Price. Love to see the teams you lost to because you're looking at those choice in a ten team league having about 8 of top 20 players I'd estimate.
-
I think he meant "pay more because they are the cubs" and not "pay more than the next guys". We picked up the future 2b in Isan Diaz No, no, no, no... You draft and trade for talent. If they fit "holes" in the system, great. But you don't avoid positions just because "we already have one". Because Diaz might not be the future 2b. It's a reason not to go for a guy like Javier Baez. It's not just Diaz but with guys like Rivera and Villar. Maybe eventually Gatewood/Lara if SS/3b doesn't workout. I feel better about having a serviceable 2b than a potential Ace/#2 SP in the Brewers pipeline. 2b to me is a bit like Catcher. The value isn't as high on need. Many a SS/3b will end up playing 2b if they don't fit the SS/3b profile or are moved there because SS/3b is blocked. How many 2b are MVP type studs? You just don't see it. Cano/Altuve if you got that type of prospect in a deal. But a Baez is very far from them. Looking at 2b prospects. Yoan Moncada is the only one that would fit that. Every other top 2b prospects read no different overall than Diaz.
-
None of that is franchise changing. It's hope and pray. The floor on those deals is utter disaster. We picked up the future 2b in Isan Diaz. I don't like the idea to trade to the Cubs. Make them better at one of their weaker positions. Chicago likely doesn't hesitate extending Lucroy 3 more years. I'd offer him 3/42mil 9mil signing bonus to be added to the Option that's forthcoming being picked up. If you're him do you turn that down? That extension leads in to the Brewers competitive again years. And Lucroy will be a monster to have to compete against. No doubt stalling that return.

Haven't been following much Basketball as always. So in a year where 6losses still make you #4 ranked. A 10loss team WI doesn't crack the top 25 with 3 top 10 wins? Take I believe I seen 3worst pt losses and the other 7losses are by combined 21pts or less. Meaning 1possession games. Lose a 3pt game to #3Maryland at home after a loss before and 3rd game in 9days a loss to NW? Beating a team on tough stretch. Just surprised like hey let's rank Big10 teams in top 10 showing conference respect. But if WI beats them it's not a big win for WI, and WI is/has been a competitive team so we won't downplay the loss keep your ranking.
