Good pick for a Who Wins. In his prime, I'd have taken Danny Trejo. But lets face it, he's 70years old(yes you read that right and 15years older than I thought) Diesel is 47.(about 8-10years older than thought) If performance is starting to dwindle by age 30 or 35 lets say, Trejo is twice that age and I'm going to guess not able to handle a Vin Diesel attack for long.

Can't forget a few runs scored he was responsible for when the RP got rocked even worse.

Down goes Wheeler. TJ likely
brewcrewdue80 replied to JohnBriggs12's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Just opens up the NLEast some more for the Nationals. On the plus side, I think Wheeler's loss creates a Mets no-show for Playoff potential now. Removes a competitor to Milw for a Playoff spot. To me it'd be like Milwaukee losing Kyle Lohse for the season...Wheeler's loss in value. -
What he's arguing is that Maldonado for Cechini equals a no-brainer N-O! Brewers would have to throw in a prospect. Something like Taylor Williams or Jorge Lopez. I feel like this proposal is for a hatred towards Maldonado and a love for whatever reason the Brewers AAA C prospect. Where are these guys coming from? Somebody liked a catcher who I never heard of in another thread because of his OB skills? That of what .330s? OB skills to me is .370s+ .330s is average. We lost the good catcher in the organization to the Dodgers via a trade...Shawn Zarraga I believe. I for one really like Maldonado as a backup catcher. He has defensive skills, and a little pop which to me is fine. To me has a lot of value in trade, but to other teams? I doubt it. Especially for Cecchini who has the future 3b role on a team like Milwaukee. You're fixing a problem for Milwaukee to get a backup atcher. I wouldn't want to help a team in that dire situation unless if was Milw giving up a Hamels in trade...an actual playoff starter for a future poor team's franchise fix at 3b.

1. Orlando Arcia 2. Monte Harrison 3. Gilbert Lara 4. Kodi Medeiros 5. Corey Knebel 6. Clint Coulter 7. Taylor Jungmann 8. Tyrone Taylor 9. Jacob Gatewood 10. Taylor Williams 11. Marcos Diplan 12. Jorge Lopez 13. Wei-Chung Wang 14. Yadiel Rivera 15. Miguel Diaz 16. Devin Williams 17. Tyler Wagner 18. Nicolas Pierre That's really it for me. Incompletes on the remaining 7 voting for one or the other doesn't do them justice as #19 and #25 are just equal prospects. One shouldn't get 6points and the other 1 when they are equal. As to rankings. Yeah, I'm down on Tyrone Taylor. Looks to be a defensive wizard/ potential .280+ hitter but with 0 pop. So we'll have a defensive CF with .280/.335/.340 OPS defensive CF. Is .675-.710OPS really worth the defensive specialist? I think if he tries for more power, he'll barely bat .245 with an under .300OB making him even worse. He'll be great trade-bait when it happens I hope for a nice return. His stock won't be going any higher than it is. Kodi Medeiros. Filthy Slider, he has to learn to control a little bit more, but really a changeup pitch with his Fastball to go with that Slider will fool more than enough hitters. He can be an 11k/9 Starting Pitcher with his stuff. He stands to be #1 in this ranking potentially. Lara I rank highly now due to video making me think of ARod in his swing. That's a boom selection if remotely true. Knebel. He's already made it to the Big Leagues. He's a potential fit in as a Closer, and to groom that would be extraordinary for this organization. Jungmann is making me a believer. His height(like Nelson) will mean a lot of ground balls for a hitters park. That's a plus if that happens. Even as a long term fit as a #5 SP. Gatewood makes 9 because of the added muscle, maybe his growth/maturity in his body will equal huge gains? If he gains just a little I think that's deserving of a top 10 spot. Diplan-I don't know how we got him for Gallardo. He avg'd almost 5IP as a 17yr old SP a .5 hit per 9? Like Medeiros he's only 6ft but the potential of him(and with already experiencing results) make him one to watch/root for. This was a Steal for a Gallardo! Rivera is a defensive specialist at SS who to me is a commodity to have for backup. Expect him to make the Big Leagues and last a long time. Pierre. CF with true pop(unlike Taylor) that stands to go big up the boards here with a successful season. Like Monte Harrison, I think his prospect stock can jump a ton. Other guys are pitchers Lopez/Wang/Williams boys/Wagner. Depth guys for SP it's nice to have. I like Lopez's 6'4" and continual growth. Feel like he's on his way to becoming a good one.

I like the list a lot. In the Pitching category, I didn't see Quality Starts in your configures for pitching. QS. Any way to build that in to your numbers? Very good base-line list in my opinion and a website, that would probably garner a ton of followers in due time.

Exactly why I think you use Parra vs RHP and sit him vs LHP. Lucroy to 1b and Maldy at catcher (whose defense is a plus and batted .721 OPS vs lefties last season). Lind is a platoon 1b, use a lefty to replace who he is. Again, it's a 25 man roster and your fulltime starters say no to 1b. Parra is the 4th OF, and may be the starting 1b (more versatility/more money next season) if he can play 1b for Lind when his back doesn't allow him to. You just have to decide what do you want for your 25th man? A 5th OF/1b/pinch-hitter without speed or do you put an extra arm in the bullpen? How many games will .750 OPS win you with Clark/Peterson or does Parra's .700 OPS+ and extra bullpen arm throughout the season? We're talking less than DL stint here. As if Lind has to go on the DL, I'd assume when done so Clark takes his place making this moot. Back issues though are either long term, or just rest for 2 or 3 games here and there and you're good to play again.

Jimmy Nelson - Ready for the Challenge?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I just can't commit the time to look it up to argue the individual situation vs WAR stat. All I can say is that when you get to the bullpen generally, you've compartmentalized a baseball game in to 9 outs or less. Yes they can't control that a team went 0-2 with 2Ks and bases loaded back in the 3rd inning where 1 hit would have likely meant 2 more runs. Increasing the odds their 9 out contribution wasn't met with such official outcome of the game. Nor can they do anything about a team's offense when putting up zeroes in the 7th,8th,and 9th innings being behind by 1 or 2runs and the offense doesn't score creating a win from behind. It's just that in a 9out or less game, they are brought in with a lead and do have an impact on whether they keep that or lose it. And I got 21-22 record. 7-10 in the 2nd half. Maybe someone could go through the 162 games with a % chance supposedly the Brewers had of winning games the moment the starter left the game. What % counts for RPs and what doesn't? If it's 66% or less does the outcome not matter? You could tie the % with all the previous PAs and assume at 66% and lower a RP didn't decide the game? Should it be 75%? And then how about the Brewers coming back and winning a game? What % chance of that happening when a starter leaves does RPs have to be considered as a true impact? Same 34% or lower? 25%? That's kinda where I'm looking, is how many games did the Brewers lose when the starter gives the RP the ball and there's a highly likely chance they should win at that point? -
I'm going on the positive side here. Brewers 87-75 Playoffs Yes-League Championship (lose series) MVP: Carlos Gomez and Jon Lucroy Surprise: Garza and Fiers pitch to under 3.4ERA Disappointment: Braun's Thumb isn't healed fully and he's just a .775-.835OPS OF now. All Stars: Gomez, Lucroy, Garza Brewers might win this division with 87 wins or finish 2nd. It's already begun with MLB teams suffering injuries and that bites the Central again. Namely the Cardinals and Reds pitching staffs. Pittsburgh's staff suffers after Gerrit Cole, no one stepping up to a #2 role, as well as backend of bullpen doesn't accomplish what it did in '14. And all this means the door is open for the Brewers...and Cubs who may be the tied at 87 win team or who we lose outright division to.

How do you configure your 25man if Lind isn't put on the DL? The way I see it 16spots are spoken for leaving 9 to put on the roster. How many of those 9 even have options remaining to move from Majors to Minors? The 16 on the 25man with 0 doubt anywhere else: Braun, Gomez, Lucroy, ARam, Parra, Davis, Segura, Gennett, Maldonado, Lind, Lohse, Garza, Peralta, Smith, Broxton, and Krod. That's 16. You need 2 more SPs That's 18. 7 spots left. For certain going to have backups for ARam and Gennett/Segura. There's 2 more=20. You have your Loogy, Setup, and Closer. Need longman/swingman 21, 7th Inn 22. That leaves 3 spots and I'm sure you're not going with just 5 in the bullpen. So, where do you find Lind's 1b replacement if: ARam needs to sit a few games(Rogers or Jimenez? backup) Maldonado takes a ball off the hand and Lucroy must catch? Are you really going to use Matt Clark on the 25man who's only job will be pinch-hitter or Lind replacement if that scenario happens? If Clark can play in the OF great for his versatility, but if not Lind is blocking him. Unless Lind is on the DL Clark doesn't have his 25man spot. Can they put Braun at 1b? If I remember correctly, Davis tried some 1b last year in ST? was it? and it was immediately decided he wasn't going to play there. Rogers has 1b history, but he may also be the kind of player who has an option? But Jimenez not? Jimenez has 15 games at 1b in the Minors he's almost exclusively a 3b option it appears. I just believe this is a 25man decision. You either take Matt Clark as a backup 1b/pinch hitter or send one of Thornburg, Jeffress, Wooten, Kintzler, Cotts, or Knebel off the 25man (you're already 1 minimum if not 2 at this point. Clark makes 3) Where does Chris Perez fit -- 25 man or bust for him?

Very Hard to believe a G2 or G5 provided you with more distance than the majority of what the Market offered. I get each driver was better, because they were from the previous model. Like I said, Stick with the I20 Driver it's the best Ping has to offer thus far. I'm annoyed I cant try out this Titleist right now as I've self diagnosed myself as having Plantar Facilitis in my right foot. Happened Saturday, trying out some stuff found at pharmacy to see if it heals shortly. Fairly painful to put weight on, just crazy, did nothing out of the ordinary just popped up out of nowhere.
-
Yes, the I20 was a rare Ping driver that worked well. I15s were a step in the right direction, I20s exceeded it, but then like Titleist, Ping came out with newer drivers trying to improve on the I20s and went backwards. Haven't seen a Ping driver past the I20s that was better. As to Titleist Blades, if you're hitting a Titleist blade, you're atop of your golf game. I don't think any irons are better than any blade iron by Titleist, if you're swinging fast enough and with very good contact of sweet spots. I'm jealous of anyone that can hit them, seriously, I hear 200yards to the flag and these players are contemplating 6iron or 5iron. 6iron 200yards!
-
Injuries happen, I get it, but his first outing? Mike Minor I believe it was also with potential issues. Atlanta/Texas are very prone to TJ surgery it seems. I doubt there is any way the Rangers give up the package to get Gallardo had Darvish+Profar been ruled out beforehand. Bad luck there. I just hate seeing a 200+IP 235Ks+ SP go down to injury. Somebody who's right for baseball's image will have to sit a season, huge loss for baseball 2015. Harvey+ in 2014. Darvish now in '15.

Jimmy Nelson - Ready for the Challenge?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yes Ennder, if you want to decide WAR is what decides games and base the W/L on that total. Btw, how about that stat if you went on actual first half 81 games vs last 81games? I'm guessing you went off the AS Break being 1st half to 2nd half here. 49-32 first 81 games vs 53-43 at AS Break. I don't believe in WAR with RP as it has to be based more or less on the overall numbers from Pitchers on the field and not game conditions. You're adding Wang's 17.1 IP of -.4WAR or -.9WAR of Relief pitching in the equation in this WAR stat(how can he be worth -.4WAR on Fangraphs?) Which explains just how little is really put in to RP numbers. And this is someone whose stats count for the 1st half of Brewers baseball when they were 17 games above .500 as he pitched to 1 batter in the 2nd half. Twice he came in to the game down 1 run (manageable) and left with the team down 6 runs (not very manageable at all). So I believe more in BWAR of -.9WAR over FWAR of -.4WAR. Just going back with W/L records I have the RP at 14-12 in the 1st half and 7-10 in the 2nd half. Without looking for wins or losses to starters due to RP help or failures( I know Garza lost a couple games being the pitcher of record when RRR put in a RP) That's 7 wins difference from first half to 2nd half. The fact that the RP had 26 games of record in the 1st half and just 17games in the 2nd half, makes me wonder on the SP inherited runs scored in the 2nd half especially when you have 40 men come September to pull starters early and use extra RP help. How many games were they on the hook for the L when pulled? Not researching it right now as it's late. I know W/L isn't a great number to go by for starters due to run support, but for RPs when they are pitching in games late and can win or lose based on performance, the bullpen was a positive in the 1st half and negative in the 2nd half. WAR can be good for indicating a player through the season but, to be specific on help to the team overall Ws/Ls? How effective can it be to rate someone if the game is 4runs or more ahead or behind? In a 162game grind in the season and the game is in the 7th-9th innings? I don't believe ABs are fought as hard in those circumstances especially with elite bullpen help to depend on. So zeroes being put up in the 7th,8th and 9th innings in those games, they go towards the overall WAR of a player on the season, but how hard fought are those IP when the game is most likely out of hand? Also, let's put it where the Brewers are ahead by 3-5runs in the 8th to 9th innings? Should a RP be nibbling the corners trying to not allow that batter to put the ball in play as best as he can? I'd think not. Let that leadoff hitter to see pitches to put in play, his run doesn't have an immediate impact. So in those instances, if that occurs the RP gives up 1 run, which hurts his WAR, but in reality he didn't need to be perfect, just make sure no more than 2 or 3 runs came across. To be honest, there should be a stat for RPs that's not WAR related but like QBR in Football. Their rating is based on the situation at hand. And that determines their WAR. I think then that would show off if a RP cost a team more than 4-6 wins or losses in one half of a baseball season. -
I've witnessed the RBZ Dddwas just jumping off the face. I would highly recommend the 3wood RBZ but not the driver. It also has to do with look of the club, I don't like white or their new white with design on top of clubhead from TaylorMade's. Rory threw his 3iron in pond today btw not driver. Titleist has been fairly consistent over the years with their drivers and bounce/spring effects, just the club head shapes for the most part weren't. The 913D2 harkens back to more traditional shape. Taylormade's best Drider I've seen was the R7 SuperQuad or the R510-580 series drivers. The spring from those clubheads was immense. I was looking for an R7 only I found this 913D2 for a super price on Ebay. Figure I can play with it for a season and sell for 85% of what I paid for it if it doesn't work out.

I'm going to bump this thread up as I've figured out that traveling home I can visit the Brewers game at St Louis/Busch Stadium June 2nd/3rd one of those 2 games likely. Wondering on advice for hotel to stay in, food to grab to eat, bar whatever comes highly recommended if you've been there. I'm only going to be there one day probably from about Noon to gametime (on 2nd most likely) with spending the night at the hotel. I've only been to County/Miller and the Marlins stadium before the new one was built. I'll try going to the new one this year with pics. Thanks for any advice. Edit Add: Is there a way to post pictures taken from seat at a stadium? I have some from the old Marlins stadium vs Nationals and think it's hilarious they built a new stadium when the old one for the game I attended had maybe 2500 fans in it. It's eerie how empty the entire stadium was, and embarrassing that a pro team is playing in front of such a non-crowd.

Well, He's too young to become a Whistling Straits/Blackwolf caddie and that's not in SE WI but for future caddie thoughts, consider that and or Erin Hills. As to SE caddie jobs, you probably need to go place to place. You find a golf course in your area, and find their website, see if they have a caddie program. The types he must be able to caddie at must be private clubs so there can't be a whole lot to choose from. Sorry to miss this by 11months but maybe suggestion helps for 2015.

Well Golf is my sport, but I work the most during the weekends/ie golf tournaments, so I don't follow it all to much, especially since Steve Stricker has moved to part time. My focus has been more with baseball. Anyway, being late here, I did see these Tiger yips in his short game. Terrible, I mean absolutely terrible. I would think 0 professional golfers on the PGA or the Webb.com tour would have a disability to hit short games shots that terrible more than once in a round. The fact that he's done it multiple times in the same round this season? He doesn't belong playing professional golf right now, it's like an 85 year old who still has a license, he doesn't deserve it until he's passed the drivers test yearly. Tiger should have to go through the PGA Qualifying school it's that bad. He's lost it, and doesn't deserve taken up a spot in a tourney over somebody young and new who deserves a chance. He did the right thing to step away from PGA competition until his game was worthy of playing tournaments. It's one thing to lose your driving ability one season(like Stricker after changing products back in the day) but to lose your ability in the short game, when the wedges you are going to be using are practically identical one product to the next with all your choices is something all its own. As some one said in golf, it's between his ears, and I see no chance he will win another Major considering the boom he brought to the golf game. Guys like Rory McIllroy and Jordan Spieth, are just far better competition than what it was 15years ago. He has to get back to the TOP of his game to compete with them, not play 1 shot worse than he was previously but being he was so good than 2nd best that would still give him winning ability. As to my own golf game, I decided to upgrade my driver as I just no longer could get off the tee with my old one. It's one of those Wrench Adjustables Ti-913D2 drivers that I want to set up a little open and upright to try improving my driving. Previously had a Nike Dymo that I just began hooking beyond control and felt I was swinging way to round with because it set up low. I'm one of thee best putting from 35feet and less, 7feet away and I think I'm only 2feet away, putts are just so easy. Wedge game is nice and my previously terrible bunker game, I think is coming around having maybe figured out the setup and soft hands swing while taking more sand. I was actually attempting putting from out of the bunkers early in 2014 season, I was so terrible in sand. It's crazy how much one can improve when they reach a changed setup/swing thought. I do miss golf watching and rooting for Stricker, I wish Mike Van Sickle former Marquette All-American golfer would get himself going and playing on the PGA tour to root for. No Kelly or Kendall I'm getting to the point I may be rooting for Spieth to follow. I love rooting for Americans, but I would rather root for Wisconsians like Matt Kenseth in Nascar. With Stricker barely playing, I just don't follow golf like I did 2 years ago.

I'm sorry but I can't find Pittsburgh anywhere in that forum, are they deleted? I think your forum may be too advanced for even me to attempt this but just curious what it all had to study for future reference.

Jimmy Nelson - Ready for the Challenge?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
It most certainly did not. Very rare for a pen to cost a team 4 to 6 wins in a full season and that is if it is one of the worst in the game. RP just don't have this type of impact. Enderr do you really believe that? What happened in 2013? Pretty sure that RP staff cost the team far more than 6games by the start of June. much less for the full season. -
Well, Last season, 1b didn't matter where he batted them they weren't getting .700OPS from them. Now, you're looking at a Lefty 1b with an .860OPS vs Righties and .588 vs Lefties Split that last season was .942/.223 Do you really waste a .900-ish OPS Lefty batting him 5th behind ARam? Then you have Scooter Gennett. .846OPS RHP/.291OPS LHP. I just feel RRR has to play the matchups in his favor. Scooter offers above .300BA vs Righties. That's Leadoff stuff. Gomez is a Power/Speed combo and I just think he deserves coming to bat with runners on base. Braun is the question mark, and ST isn't going to answer it, as he hit for power early on making all believe he was back to his #3 self. Now that we know his thumb can sap that pullpower from him, how long will he be a #3 hitter? If you go by the numbers, batting Braun #2 vs Lefties makes sense and batting him 5th vs Righties then makes sense with putting Lucroy #3 vs Lefties and #2 vs Righties. Gomez bats leadoff vs Lefties and #3 vs Righties. Lind #4 when he plays vs Righties. ARam can bat #4 vs Lefties. #6 vs Righties. Comfort with the lineup is mental. Putting up the numbers they post and winning games because of it should be the biggest factor. Team has to take advantage of Lind/Gennett's RHP split positives and bat them atop the front half of the order. That also addresses Braun+ARam's split deficiencies vs RHP. Near .900OPS belong atop the order. Near .750OPS or less belong lower in the order. It's also ARam's final season, time to reduce his PAs at the #4 vs what is now a problem for him and a reason why he wants to retire after the season. Lind should likely stay for 2016 get him used to that #4 spot. Gomez/Lucroy/Braun are all professionals with talent, it shouldn't affect their ABs being 1,2,3,4 or 5. I think the only spot spoken for is #8 currently with SS. until there's a response to play any higher.

Perez has a Minor League deal in place. I like him more than Kintzler if you didn't know by now, but he doesn't possess a roster spot yet. Someone speculated back when the Perez signing happened that it was a negotiating ploy to show the team did not need Papelbon if they couldn't get him for the price they wanted. Perez could be gone come April. Same can be said about Willis, not under a ML contract. Is he here for a true test of skills to make the club? Or could he be that Veteran WS experienced story-teller to push around to fans/young players who will play with that 2nd team Split squad at first? Get to tell his stories, what he's learned, how to build from Staff Ace to bust to recovered RP, that trials/tribulations thing. Maybe RRR's Son likes the guy and the two were both signed to get him on the same field

KRod signs 2 year deal with Brew Crew
brewcrewdue80 replied to Cirillos Hot Corner's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You're missing the quoted part. Last season the Crew's RP was cruising along and then Henderson went down. Little later Thornburg went down. Smith became ineffective vs RHP. Having KRod removes Wooten or Kintzler from the idea of use in the 8th or 9th innings if not playing to matchups but pitching to a full inning. Say Broxton got hurt. Henderson/Thornburg are hurt again. At least we have KRod to cover in that instance vs having to turn to Kintzler or Wooten and maybe Kneble too soon. I know Jeffress is there still, but his success thus far in the ML level was the time he put in with Milw in '14. The history isn't there, the upside/potential is, but not the history which is actually a bust. Solidify. That's what KRod does for the backend of the bullpen. It could turn sour on using Henderson, Jeffress, Wooten, and especially Kintzler really quick and the Crew be stuck with no backup plan. The roles these guys will have can be relied on in 6th/7th or extra inning games rather than the Holds of the 8th and the Saves of the 9th. -
KRod signs 2 year deal with Brew Crew
brewcrewdue80 replied to Cirillos Hot Corner's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I like the Deal. I can live with 2/13mil-6.5mil avg overall for him. He's certainly not Half the RP Papelbon is who's commanding 13mil and he doesn't cost Milw any prospects. KRod still has the numbers to like him. Less than 1hit per 9, a lowing BB Rate and K Rate above 9 per 9. I mean he gave up 14HRs last season to have a 3.04 ERA. 1 HR less he's under 3 ERA and I'd be happy with that in a RP. Just to go back for Brewers leader in Saves ERA 14: KRod 3.04 13: Henderson 2.7 12: Axford 4.67 11: Axford 1.95 10: Axford 2.48-Hoffman 5+ 09: Hoffman 1.83 08: Torres 3.49-Gagne 5+ KRod has had 2 Seasons lifetime of an ERA north of 3.04 3.71+4.38 Otherwise 3.04 and better the other 10 seasons. I'll take his long term ability vs. a guy like Kintzler or Wooten having to be used in the Situations KRod's been in.
