Gomez should be trade bait
brewcrewdue80 replied to rickh150's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Could the Nationals part with Lucas Giolito for Carlos Gomez should they remain down 1 OF? Werth/Span now but the always tough to keep healthy Harper. Or say newly added prospect Michael Taylor has a midseason slump due to pitchers finding his weakness not yet found? Hear it out. What if Milw took Denard Span's contract swapping equal money essentially for taken on Gomez's. Why consider this? Washington is on the cusp of losing Zimmerman and Fister in their rotation. Pretty much gives the impression World Series win or bust feel. The Nats look to have AJ Cole to likely add to their rotation next season to replace 1 of them. So they can afford to trade away Giolito for an offensive force like Gomez could be to that team. They've had Taylor, Yunel Escobar and Ian Desmond basically as their top two in the batting order. One can guess Rendon if he returns slides back in to the #2 spot but Ryan Zimmerman hasn't been the batter he once was and may be sliding himself to a #6 in the order with Rendon/Harper/Werth 3-5. What if Milwaukee's GM got creative and added Lucroy to the trade? Asking for Taylor in return while taking Ramos from them? The club could immediately flip Span somewhere else if need be. Keep Ramos as their catcher through arb and have Taylor in CF with an actual legit top of the rotation SP in the system. Washingon meanwhile looks like an All-Star team up and down their entire starting 13. Would that be a deal worthwhile doing or is some side getting the better end of the bargain? -
Blake Swihart & Henry Owens
brewcrewdue80 replied to pacopete4's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I just read MLB's prospect writeup on Swihart and there's mention of him being Buster Posey-like. Why would the Red Sox willingly trade that potential away? It'd be one thing if he was just beginning AA but Swihart is in AAA and is likely going to see the ML team before the end of this season. The only way that would make sense to trade him away is that he takes a Giant step backwards by midseason. I mean think about it, Lucroy is getting paid Peanuts for these 3years as Swihart would be his first 3 years. So when Swihart hits Arb would be when Lucroy hits FA. Just don't see it happening. Owens reads as a talented, but control issue pitcher. If he fixes his control he's a #2/3. If not you're looking at a #4+ or a RP. As someone around here has posted, his Prospect ranking may be attributed to the fact he's in the Red Sox system. While he's ranked around 20 now had he been in the Brewers system he'd be ranked more like 95th with more emphasis on his downside of control and fastball velocity vs his upside having a quality Changeup. Cecchini, Barnes, Ranaudo, and Ball come to mind of prospects that were mid 50s to 80s as prospect ranks who have fallen in rankings/in Ranaudo's case a AAAA pitcher. -
The team did the right thing by trading Gallardo but it came at the cost of this. The had 5SPs for depth with the idea that Thornburg/Jungmann could be next in line. Considering the Padres' late signing of Shields, and the Dodgers' moves to sign McCarthy and Anderson, why wasn't a trade made to get rid of Lohse to them? When the Brewers traded Gallardo, it opened the door in my eyes to also trade Lohse. And not once was there a rumor of that happening. When it should have been pushed he was available. That's just like the Brett Lawrie for Marcum deal. Keep your mouth shut and other GMs don't know he's available to be had. At least with that move you're creating the wave of building for the future and can admit relying on luck of the pitching of Garza/Peralta/Fiers and Nelson+5th to maybe lead you to a Wild Card berth but, be ready for the staff to also be bad. Lohse still would have had a good trade value after last season, barring a team's talent evaluators saying he wasn't headed for a good year. 198IP at 3.5ERA and 2WAR is valuable stats to have pushed to acquire. Now? It's 2013 all over again. A player Milw should have traded is playing himself to non-trade value...much like Weeks playing to platoon role, or ARam being injury plagued. And of course Gallardo at that deadline being viewed as a non trade for pitcher. For an instance, let's look at Tampa, who traded away what was their big prize in Shields, Wil Myers this offseason, and acquired what looks to be a better OF in Steven Souza and 2 19yr old prospects likely identified to have promise by their evaluators, and 2 ML players avg WAR pieces. That's ingenuity right there. That is what this GM is lacking. That GM is responsible for the managers hired and keeping RR on board, who yes, is the one forced to coach what he's given, but these players aren't playing to anywhere near the average talent they've shown as one would expect. So it's on him too and he rightfully needs to go by the end of this month barring some magical turnaround these last 9 games. Why say that? How about an ESPN article that came out stating Maddon's support of Starlin Castro as a defensive specialist at SS. Who's apparently voiced Castro to turn in to being more aggressive and improved. Yeah the same Maddon that had lead the Rays to how many winning seasons in a row? It's just where is the improvement in at least 1 batter at the plate? 1. How about 1 since the AS break last season as they began the decline? It's taken Maddon less than 2 weeks to already improve Castro's defensive approach. Roenicke and his staff haven't taken 1 batter for Milwaukee and improved their approach in 8 months.

Herrera recalled.....Scooter to 15 day DL
brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I believe the Brewers are on the hook for 500k-ish of Kinztler's salary regardless if he's claimed or not. If he is claimed that team would be responsible for the rest of his contract. And maybe slightly more if they too have to pay the 500k-ish to add him to their ML roster.(that both would actually account to adding up as more than his 1+mil owed) As for teams claiming him. I doubt it. His performance warrants this demotion. He doesn't have the high velocity that would make him more valuable. If Chris Perez wasn't claimed how is Kinztler going to be? -

brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
See another reason why the FO needs to be canned. The inability to judge Kintzler as a Non-Major League contributor in the offseason and instead giving him 1+mil of a contract vs doing this to begin with. Lack of Talent Evaluation. It's like bringing in Broxton for the stretch last season. Flames every since. And bringing back Aramis Ramirez. At least Kinztler is gone now and the moves are starting to be made. Just a shame they wasted 1+mil to do so. -
Thanks for posting the money part of Braun's contract. So give it 3 seasons and when 2018 season comes around Braun earning 19,18,16 the last 3 guaranteed years isn't a whole lot more than Upton's 14.45, 15.45, 16.45mil being earned today. It's a mutual option, that will be declined. Add 4mil for 2021. I'll just assume any deal, the Brewers will be responsible for the deferred payments while dumping the salary and player. No-one rightfully will make a trade for Braun this season. But given time and shortening his contract, he can be traded for the player he looks today.

How many more starts do you give Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to ewitkows's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He Starts the full season. About the only way he loses his job is he begins giving up 8,9,10,13,12 Runs in consecutive starts. Giving up 6Runs is better than the next option of calling up some rookie for what he's being paid. I will give Pitchers a mulligan on the first start of the season because they're usually not up to 100 pitches in their arm. So given Lohse's last 2 starts. He's still given Milw 6.1 and 6IP while posting the crooked ER line. Like I said, let's get prepared for replacement when he's giving up 8+ And not going 5IP with the starts before looking for the replacement the team doesn't have....Jungmann btw as the first suggested to replace has a what ERA? 3G 12.2 12ER 8.53ERA. He's not starting the year off any better than Lohse. The hope if Lohse returns to the 3.5ERA self he's been. And creates some trade value. He won't create any trade value being benched. And his Replacement won't be the type you're going to think of trading at all. There's no upside in removing Lohse. There is by keeping him as a Starter. -
Yet Melvin "BJ" Upton was traded to get Craig Kimbrel. Braun isn't that bad. The Upton contract expires in 2017, Braun's contract runs through 2020 with a mutual option in 2021 and i believe some deferred money. We are going to see a number of these 7-8-9-10 year deals handled out become long term albatrosses for teams and it will be interesting to see how many teams simply get stuck with those players and/or are able to eventually move the contracts, but are forced to give up assets for a team to take on the mostly dead money. I know Braun's contract is for longer duration. Just saying if Upton's contract can be traded(when it was impossible his very first year) At some point Braun's can be too. I don't mean he can be traded this season. But in 2017 or 2018 maybe and that means we aren't stuck with him to 2020/2021. So what you're saying is the Braves traded Melvin "Bossman Junior" Upton to the Braves for Craig Kimbrel? How did they both end up on the Padres then? No. Sorry. To correctly put it. The Padres took on BJ Upton's contract to acquire Craig Kimbrel. That line was a response to another post. After all the trades this past offseason, no trade is out of the realm of possibility.

Whole different scenario. The Marlins gave out Franchise contracts to Stanton and Yelich failed on Ozuna(which I think is better for them) Made trades to get Gordon and Haren and Latos plus some more I'm sure. They are a franchise with public scrutiny and this was to be a resurgence to drive ticket sales that are bleak to begin with. Now with this start, a roof that allowed rain to fall because of how slow it is, it's not encouraging to be a bandwagon fan and see some games, buying some tickets. So yeah, Showing that the Front Office is willing to make a move might keep the bandwagon/casual fan interested in the team....Especially because Jose Fernandez will appear for them some time in June. There isn't a fanbase here in Miami like in Milwaukee. I still believe Loria will sell the franchise when he can, but it's value is going to depend on the fans filling the seats. They have a young exciting core of players, and if they draw less than the first few years of the stadium this year and next, I can't fathom, how that franchise value doesn't dwindle. Loria is probably shooting for 650mil maybe 700mil on a sale. I think I read it's valued around 550 as of last year? You lose fans and it turns to 450mil vs gaining fans and hitting that 650/700 range? It's all strategy for them. Rather than the highlights be of Soccer for 3mins and then a 30sec blip about the Marlins losing, It'll be 3min of Marlins coach fired, and a daily dose of another 2-3min daily of the search for a new manager leading the way. Meanwhile, one hopes the team wins with being in the news to keep interest in them vs being thrown on the backburner.

Random MLB News & Discussion 2015–16
brewcrewdue80 replied to jjgott's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Did Escobar and Lawrie ever play in the Minors together? I agree about the Yost comment missing. I mean flat out, Kelvin Herrera can throw 100MPH and he did it twice at Lawrie, albeit not hitting him. KC has Flamethrowers like that to protect their own. And Yost, showing he means business on protecting his own. If you're an opposing coach, you know this, do you really hit someone on purpose? Knowing it will come back to your team and likely with a 100MPH pitch? Not going to be happening as much anymore this season for the Royals and that is good for that team. You have Will Smith to plunk a Lefty and Jerremy Jeffress to plunk a Righty to make a statement. Get the time angry, fired up and even some bench-clearing with these results. For KC they have one of the best records in baseball, this shown they will protect their own to keep it that way from competitors. Some people are against this stuff. For me, if I were playing for Yost vs. Roenicke, There'd be an extra pep in my step out of the batter's box. Extra trying in the later innings when behind. There's more will to fight to win. And Maybe that's why the Royals beat the A's with a comeback in the Playoff series. -
It's been 12games and the Brewers have been outscored by more runs than they have on the season.... The Detroit Tigers conversely at 10-2 on the season have outscored their opponents by more runs than the Brewers have. When does a Move happen? 16/17 games in when the season is 10% over? Someone will have to be fired here shortly...Hitting coach or Roenicke.

2015 Regular Season Optimism Thread
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
May as well just predict it now. With this poor start. You know the team will go B2B2B on HRs and double their total to 6 the day they hit their next HR. Hopefully it's within this week. -
So you basically call Peralta a #3 or #4 guy, but you think he is worth 2 top 100 prospects and one being nearly top 25? Woah consider me lost on why someone is trading the farm for a middle of the rotation starter. Then my understanding is you want to trade for a Peralta type pitcher on top of it? I just don't get it... I don't seeing the point in trading Peralta. He is cheap considering a pitcher like him would likely command $12mil or so a year. These #3 type starters are making a ton on the open market these days. Peralta is the kind of guy we need to extend. Peralta being a workhorse #3 and cheap is worth a top 25 or top 40 prospect. And a top 100prospect because He's proven and prospects aren't. Sorry I meant 2 players in the top 100 overall, but one being a top 25-40prospect. Jaimeson Taillon of Pittsburgh would be a great example. He was almost ML ready in 2013 and a top 15prospect at the time. Now he's going to be coming back from TJ fallen in the ranks and Pittsburgh's ambitions for a Playoff run that a year+ago likely included Cole+Taillon leading the way. Take Peralta for Taillon since Peralta is ready and still cheap/affordable for Pittsburgh. That line of thinking. How's Daniel Norris doing for Toronto? 3games 13.1 IP 6+ERA as of now. Toronto has Aaron Sanchez too. All that offense they have being wasted on poor pitching come mid-season. Take a Peralta for a Norris or Sanchez+ that top 100 prospect. They get the results today vs in the future. Brewers get the future not needing the results today. Peralta being a #3 SP but for 525k and then Arb? That's why he's worthy of a top 40 prospect from a team. You're looking at according to Fangraphs 9 and 12million in value his 2 seasons. So at a surplus of 8-11mil savings for a team he's worthy of that kind of 1st rd type draft pick return. The Brewers don't have to trade him, but if they did that's where the argument is coming. You're getting a 10+mil dollar value SP for a few hundred grand this season for a Playoff run. Vs trying to rely on a Rookie or a lame #4/5SP for your rotation. Think kinda like the Marcum deal....And Peralta has better stats, is cheaper with another year of team control. Brett Lawrie type plus.

Gee here's a sign. Manager has no belief in winning the game. PH Rogers for Schafer and insert Parra then at CF reducing your bench by 2. What happens if Braun or Davis get hurt on a play now? Cant use Rogers anywhere. And remember, Rogers was at the plate with nobody on. Guess the manager thinks he could hit that elusive 5run HR huh? Why waste 2 bench players for 1 player? Now lets see a rally in the 9th be wasted because Rogers was used.

So in 3 Lohse Starts 18ERs. To duplicate what he did last season he'd have to go 182.2IP giving up just 60ERs in the next 28Starts almost 6.2IP per. And an ERA the rest of the way to get to 3.54 of 2.96. Or about 2.1 runs given up every 6.2IP start. Doubt we see his ERA ever reach below 4 this season after this start. And he brings the real concern after being consistent. This is what he has to offer in what is a contract year for him. These aren't the results you pay somebody 10mil or more for after the season at his age. Millions of dollars being tossed out the door with these results.

Nelson adding a Curveball that he can locate and is Untouchable. He's no longer at best a middle rotation guy with this 3rd true pitch of his. Seriously may be the Best SP on the team now including well over Peralta. Who's never put together that K pitch. As it stands, considering Peralta's lack of one, I think he's becoming more tradeable by the start. Someone will overpay for him in prospects. Now this is an early season reaction comment but, Give it 3months and if Peralta is still unable to K 7batters/9 and is more of a contact grinding pitcher vs Nelson still near or above 9ks/9, I think he's worth putting in trade availability. This is among the plan that with this team losing as it is, being sellers come the begin to end of July. Peralta is worthy of 2 top 100 prospects one being in the top 50 if not close to top 25. One could see a team trading a young SP talent for this proven SP in Peralta. Plus adding some other prospect of need or want for Milw. I'd watch for the Mets or the Royals to make this kind of deal. They have some Pitchers to trade and an offensive prospect to trade as well that would fit the profile where Gaining Peralta for excess talent in their minors. And secretly, there's a part of me that wonders on Pittsburgh or the Cubs making a deal to put them over the top down the stretch. And never sleep on Colorado who if healthy has lethal offense and a young prospect system swimming with talent. Go for it this year and then trade Cargo or Tulo in the offseason to get back what they've given up essentially. Meanwhile they get a Groundball type pitcher to attempt to keep the ball in Coors. What does it mean for Milw's pitching future? If we are selling off players left and right before the deadline Peralta included, you'd think a #3-4 SP would be part of the return. Maybe for next season/cash reasons to make a trade happen. With KC say one of Vargas or Guthrie or Medlen even to get a great prospect and shed a roster/money and player for them. For Colorado a Jorge De LaRosa removal. Expiring type of contracts that have 1yr or 2 left if Milw were to sell off the type of Player Peralta is and Carlos Gomez eventually. You know you hurt the present but the return on talent for the near/not to distant future is better because you took on that player's contract. Which if healthy just so happens to fill a #4/#5 SP roster space which trading Peralta would be an area of concern, moreso than it is today.
