  1. Nice trade here. Arizona had awful 8th/9th inning guys last year. Reed should finally secure the 9th inning role they've been searching for. Davidson had no place to play in Arizona with Prado to play 3b. I knew this guy was going to be traded and it's really sad the Brewers couldn't find a way to get him to change our 3b situation beyond ARam. I'm liking what Arizona has been doing, I don't care if some of their trades look like a loser because honestly they have made a number of trades that turned out great for them you wouldn't have thought so originally.
  2. The emergence of Hosmer last season. Salvador Perez. The want to keep Perez in the lineup and use him as DH when he's not catching. Hosmer/Butler 1b/OF during interleague games was an issue. Hosmer isn't good in the OF. Yeah Butler is great but doesn't fit KC's team structure. It's like Matt Adams in St. Louis. Better 1b/ better OF no room for him aside from DH. And, why not sell high on a guy after an allstar year and then a down year? While everyone believes he's that AllStar.
  3. It all depends on the team makeup...Gomez in CF would be a huge addition for them. Playing in those parks in the AL West and Gomez getting to cover the OF for them? Just remember he was worth 38runs saved in the OF last season. Now that kind of defense in a division where the ballparks aren't HR friendly can make for you #3s/#4s in your rotation to have #2/#3 stats. Not to mention the bat Gomez has. Seattle's OF is lacking in that department. That Speed/Power combo. They tried going after Upton who also had 3years remaining on his contract. This is why I would have opened the trade winds with Seattle due to that package and similar deal Gomez may be warrantng. Seattle also has King Felix something Milwaukee hasn't had for a homegrown pitcher since Sheets. Only Felix is healthier and more dominant through a season. It's that outlook that again for Milwaukee since ace type pitching doesn't come along but every 20years as an organization the idea of Walker in our midst and trading him just is *Gasp* crazy talk. But who has Seattle produced in the OF of significance since Ichiro began his downward trend? And think about it, Ichiro wasn't a homegrown kid but a signing. So how far back does Seattle go...Griffey? And considering they are of all this free money why not just trade and extend Gomez 3-4 more years locking him up. Then it's not a 3 year acquisition of Gomez but 6-7 for Walker. It really is too bad Hultzen is on the shelf for 2014 because seriously, the M's would have traded away 1 of either Walker or Hultzen this offseason for some impact bat. or OF like Gomez.
  4. Monty about the Attendance numbers you're suggesting. 1 how much an impact do you think Braun being out the last 65 games or when he was on the DL prior affected walkup attendance? What about the 5 win May? To basically be out of the playoff picture before you've reached 60games? I think that with Braun back/ARam back a surging Gomez/Segura/Lucroy that ticket sales will be in the 2.5mil range again this season if not higher should the team actually compete. Now if they drop out of contention within 60games then yes maybe they do reduce attendance. We discussed this in some other topic before but there's a large core of fans in Milwaukee that go to games just for the experience...tailgating, beer drinking, and after game bar hopping. I think having Marquette/UWM is huge help to the core fan base. So long as prices remain reasonable the fans will come.
  5. What if...they did this move and signed Choo to a 4 year deal? Now that would be a splash to dream of. I mean Choo at least can be a desperate CF should the bottom fall out with a Gomez injury/Shafer fail. Wow, imagine that turn of events?
  6. Yeah Thornburg was the teams #1 Prospect. There's just no way that a benched/sent down Davis can be worth a team's #1 prospect. Send them Pena and be done with it. Would the Mets send away Rafael Montero for Ike Davis? That's the equivalent here between Thornburg and Montero. There's too much to like about Thornburg moving forward to give him up for the potentially complete, remove from roster, terrible Davis can be. Davis is almost at 29% K rate over the last 2 seasons. Which is worse than his first 183 games. He's in his prime years and his K's are getting worse not improving. Such a Red Flag. You wouldn't trade Thornburg for Weeks and that is essentially what you are dealing with. a Weeks like .220BA with .325OB and maybe 20+HRs on a good season. It's ridiculous the Mets are asking for the Brewers former #1 Prospect for him.
  7. My expectation of Gennett isn't anywhere near where he was last season. I made a post before how just a .725-.740OPS would put Gennett in the top half of everyday starting 2b. And I believe he can achieve that. And yeah his OPS has fallen every jump up in level but did he repeat those levels the next season? No he never did. Let him grow and catch up to the level he's now going to be playing. The thing about Gennett is that his K% is under 16% over his Minors career. Sure his BB% needs work but with that kind of K rate you're looking for him to be a .270s hitter maybe he freaks out another year with a .300 BA due to a decent BABIP and another season he bats .245 due to a poor BABIP. Weeks doesn't stand a chance though of a .270 BA regardless how high his BABIP is. Weeks will only reach a .245 on a good season moving forward barring some kind of drastic reduction of his K%. Again maybe being with the Big club he learns a thing or two from his teammates how to draw a few extra walks. So while we hope he goes .270/.320 maybe he reaches .275/.340 as he adjusts and learns. The comparisons of Fiers or Maldonado to mute our expectations on Gennett are off as neither were never in Milwaukee's top 10 prospects. I don't even think Fiers' ceiling was one to be a solid #4. And maldonado is all defense with a glint of hope the bat is average. I actually have more Faith moving forward in Gennett than I do Khris Davis who surprise, surprise also had a decline in OPS every jump up the minors.....Why is it mentioned for Scooter but ignored with Davis? Ah, yes because everyone digs the long ball right? I am just not confident in where Davis slides in to Milwaukee's lineup. I feel if he's #6/#7 in the batting order he's just going to be pitched around to avoid giving up a HR ball. We'll see how his nerves are to accept that as he may go weeks between HRs with that strategy employed....if he sits back takes the walks and doesn't instead become impatient and start trying to swing away at these pitches. I can see a closer to Weeks batting line by Davis if he gets impatient.
  8. Yeah, there's no way I'd take Stephen Drew at the cost of the 12th pick. The team that's going to sign Drew is going to be a team that has already lost their 1st rd pick and he costs a 2nd rd pick. Once his price comes down in January or even in February when he and Morales are still sitting waiting for a team to call them.
  9. If Gomez was dealt for the Upton Package or simply just Walker and another helpful prospect. Walker by all accounts may be the Brewers #1 pitcher by season's end. With 5more years of receiving Walkers service. Way better than Gomez's value to this franchise for 3years.. In fact Walker may actually improve the Brewers ability to make the Playoffs this year. That's why you make Gomez available.
  10. Martin Maldonado 2012 - 256 PA, 93 OPS+ 2013 - 202 PA, 41 OPS+ Yes that's a great comparison right? To each their own. Maldonado's bat was never anything expected to reach at least average. 2012 was clearly playing over his ability. Now taking Gennett whose bat was at least average with Contact abilities to maybe make him above average. Gennett has the expectations to bat .270 give or take 20pts. Maldonado though is a .225 batter give or take 20pts. It's a poor comparison.
  11. I think this guy winds up sticking. Sounds appealing to have a 93-94MPH Fastball and a plus Curve ball to go with it. When the guy only walked 4 batters in his...47ip? was it? I'm not as concerned about him making the jump to likely turn in as a mop up/Loogy RP. When after this season the Brewers could return his development back to a SP and maybe have found a gem no one thought would be acquired. And for his price talk about a great find being a Lefty RP. Rather than pay JP Howell 3-4mil a year they get an upstart for League Minimum. Who has upside.
  12. Are we talking JD Drew? or Stephen Drew? Because Stephen costs Milwaukee it's 12th pick....not interested.
  13. Butler doesn't sound great at 1b but I'd bet he's better than Yuni or Juan Fran defensively with a major upgrade with the bat. I've wanted Butler since he's become available but put it this way, he's a QO player when the season ends. So you're not just trading his value you have to trade his value and the value of that comp pick the Royals would get should they retain him. After trading Aoki for Smith I'm guessing there's really not going to be a move made on Butler, if it hadn't been done already. How often do two teams make major trades in the offseason on two completely different trade occasions?
  14. MLBTR says that Melvin told Hardicourt all rumors involving Weeks were false. He's unmovable without sending a minimum of 8mil to the other team....maybe 10mil. And that's 1/9th to 1/12th the team's payroll. I doubt there's even a C prospect in return for even doing so. You just have to keep him and stomach his swings and misses, first pitch groundouts when he does make contact and the 3Run HRs when the game isn't within 4runs.
  15. Gee surprise, surprise a baseball player having a truly great year his FA year. I want nothing to do with Loney unless it's an incentive laden 1year deal. Getting him for 3 years completely removes Morris altogether from the Brewers Future. May as well waive him.
  16. Based on the rumors I am thinking Davis becomes the 1b for Milw. and since LoMo was gotten for Carter Capps, one can deduct that Thornburg is a close approximation to what Davis' value may be. I just foresee Thornburg...being in NY Citi Field going on to a 3.1ERA on the season as a Starter. He's going to be very good for them in that ballpark. Meanwhile we cross our fingers and hope that Davis can keep his 1b job over Morris. What I don't get is why not Hellweg? Fits the bill of boom/bust potential both teams are receiving. Thornburg will help the Mets regardless as a SP or a RP.
  17. Smoak, maybe. Montero, no. The only reason Montero was ever considered a good hitter is because he was a catcher. His offense at first would be very average-ish. Certainly an upgrade over last year but not worth it. Agreed on Montero...and btw wasn't he a PED user? I think he was using in the minors that got him the praise as a Yankee Prospect(thanks ARoid) only to get off and become completely irrevelant. I have a feeling Smoak is headed to Tampa.
  18. don't know which one will hold but huh? Capps has more value imo than Morrison....and you just signed Hart? So where are you putting Morrison... Oh wait here comes the boom Zunino,Franklin,Smoak to Tampa for Price and Hannigan
  19. I am imagining Hart as a DH first (role Kendry Morales held) and 1b 2nd. I knew a DH position would net Hart the most money because he wouldn't have to take the field. His bat is the promising side to a signing and DH is where he can provide his bat first and foremost. I wouldn't doubt Corey becoming a DH for the remainder of his career.
  20. just posted the link in Majors. Yeah I'm not surprised he went elsewhere. While at the same time, I'm not unhappy he's not playing for Milwaukee. Dual Knee issues not for me.
  21. 1year deal details soon to come http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/mariners-to-sign-corey-hart.html Like I said, so much for hometown discount. He never was going to do it.
  22. I am surprised by the lesser amount of talent in return for Anderson. But I guess major injury concerns as well as 1+option year at 20mil combined just was too much to offer anything major. I do wonder if Anderson comes back to form with near 100% healthy seasons(maybe 1 15 day DL stint) that he doesn't take on a QO roll. This could turn in to a major get for Colorado for a guy they already had seen cant perform for them. If the Brewers could have traded Gallardo or Lohse, this would have been the guy to target. But otherwise, I think the rotation has too many fillins to manage another one.
  23. Wow, just wow. You know maybe pre-2013 that trade would have made sense today? Not one bit. Thornburg has proven value while Davis has proved he's as likely to play in the minors as he can in the Majors this season. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Davis didn't stick with the team who trades for him due to complete lousiness. I do see the idea of Pena for Davis only somewhat appealing. But really I think Pena will go on to have a better career than Davis and again, Davis just may be benched permanently! when he goes .200/.244/.365 as a 1b. Hunter Morris please just step up to the plate for Milw at 1b(assuming Hart isn't signed tonight) Edit add: that's the thing that bothers me is that I feel we already of Ike Davis in our organization in the name of Hunter Morris. Every bit of concern batting with Davis is exactly the concern we have with Morris.
  24. Exactly, and agreed. Is Trumbo some sort of protection for Goldschmidt? The HR potential every AB scare opposing pitchers from walking him? Still defensively he's flawed and the NL West if filled with wide-spanned OFs to expose it. Tampa could have just offered any of their other SPs like Archer or Cobb to get Trumbo straight up if they wanted him. If Tampa were to trade for Trumbo I'd believe that Price needs to stay and honestly try winning the WS this season with Price. Trumbo is a piece that compliments a team for a Playoff run. But not a piece to build on, especially when he's going to be expensive to that team after this season.
  25. Yes, which is why he's not an elite pitcher but merely a useful RP. If he had a normal BB/9 he would be one of the best pitchers in baseball. He has had a high BB/9 his entire career, that's just part of his skillset. Doesn't mean he can't be effective. His whip is atrocious since he was good. That 7-8BB/9 just isn't going to get it done at MP. Just because he can be unhittable doesn't mean a team can't score 2runs off of him with 0 hits. It'll be Walk, Wild Pitch moves to 2b. Walk. Sac runners on 2nd/3rd. Wild Pitch run scored, K, Wild Pitch run scored. I mean he is worse than Hellweg on the mound last season in wildness. 5 or his 52 appearances went for 3Runs given up or more. 2 more at 2runs. 7/52 appearances were multiple runs outings. 5 more he gave up a run. so he's giving up runs 1/4 of his appearances. LA also used him in very low pressure situations. Up 4runs or behind 2+runs. Marmol's appearances for LA: Down 3, Down 2, ahead 4, Down 4, ahead 9, Down 5, ahead 6, Down 2, Down 4, Down 4, Down 5, Down 1(1out AP), Ahead 3(1out AP), down 2, Ahead 7, down 3, down 2, ahead 7, down 3, down 2, down 3, down 2, down 2, ahead 11. How many really honest good abs do you think the batters he was facing were giving when they are ahead by 4runs or more or behind by 4runs or more? 10/21 of those appearances. Just for Lucroy's and Maldonado's sake, save those knees on all those wild pitches they will be chasing!
