They signed Puig to a 7/42 deal and put him in the minors. Valid argument, but Puig was 21 and signed to 7years with the first two averaging 3.8mil a year before avg. 7mil per the remainder of contract. Guerrero will be making 6.5mil this year to spend 1/4th of his entire contract in the minors? He's 27 on a team filled with superstars. I don't think LA needs to season him in the minors when they likely play 20games over .500 ball regardless how bad he is. Guerrero's contract is like Aoki's in that after the 4th year he's a Free Agent. He'll be 30 turning 31 when he's hit FA. Puig will hit FA in his still Peak age of 28 turning 29. And he just goes to Arb! So LA owns him really through Age 31. (though there's a clause he can start his arb after 3yrs service so he's likely up for FA at 29) How about we look positive though, I'm reading that he's had a hamstring injury. Maybe LA blinks on trusting him to start the season or fear his injury will prevent him from being reliable.... Enter Weeks(not without his own Hamstring issue though) But, just maybe because of his 1yr contract, LA deals for him? Still don't know what kind of value you can ask for in return, it's pretty much strictly monetary. For Milwaukee I'm still thinking Chad Billingsley. Yeah he's going to be on the shelf until near mid-season but, being on a 60 day DL opens up a roster spot. His Return then can be 1 of few things, A, he returns in time to finish out the season with a Rotation spot after having shipped Lohse or Gallardo if being out of the playoff picture. B, the Brewers are successful but their #5s aren't getting it done. He turns in to a savior. C, Pitcher injuries happen, by mid-year maybe 2 Starters are out. He's insurance that may provide value. D, he's just a name but we use him for 1-3starts and move him at the trade deadline. Either way the money is around equal to Rickie's we actually get a prospect for him because it's more. The fear of Rickie's option being reached is removed. Win to me.

Let Insanity begin! He's being posted. From the sounds of rumors he's going to get 100mil or more. I am honestly wondering, next year will this guy make as much as David Price? For all things done in this offseason, Seattle get him! I will hate it if Yanks, Cubs, Dodgers, buy him.

Fondy, you would take someone who's on bad knees over someone who's knees are healthy? Look over all sports, knee injuries ruin careers and they often reinjure very easily. I have doubts Gamel will ever play 120 games in a season again even if he posted .850OPS numbers upon return. There's just that much risk of reinjury or plain having to rest knees having sore days with them. Something that was mentioned with Hart that he'd have to rest on night to day games potentially wiping out 30 games alone never mind a 15day dl stint or having to rest a night game. Colvin certainly is a better option than Sea Bass was. And he's not limited to 1 position at least.

I don't know trwi. What of his 2010 Chicago Cubs season? is 20HRs and .800+OPS due to Coors? I'd easily suggest he's .150 OPS better than Gonzalez or Yuni who were are add-ons late ST last year. I mean, he seems pretty much everything we have already in Sean Halton only he bats from the Left side. He at least has 1b experience. Platoon splits would be .781/.640 RH/LH He's had success in Milwaukee. For the most part, he looks like a safer LH bat than Juan Fran and he's better defensively at 1b than Juan.
-
I agree with Stache as well only my expectations would be more like .230-.240 with 16-22HRs and 70RBI. Which is essentially what we would expect from Ike Davis. Only 2mil less and Thornburg still on team.

How is it possible the Rangers would have waiver claim priority over Milwaukee? I thought Waivers worked worst records to best records? If Milwaukee put in for Tolleson then they should have gotten him ahead of Texas? I did wonder that with all these claims having been put in if the move with Olmstead was to make room for a claim. And then I thought, Do they really have to have just 39men on their roster in order to make a claim? Or can't they make the claim first, achieve winning the claim, and settling the waived player of their own off their 40 man? Maybe Milwaukee just seen it for what it was, Olmstead doesn't have a future with this team.

Rangers sign Shin-Soo Choo: 7-yr/$130mil
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Man, does Fantasy Baseball really make one disgust a player when the guy is really valuable. I had Choo in his 1 and only serious down year in 2011. Choo looks locked in as being a 3+WAR player when he reaches 145 games or more. A 20/20 player eerily consistency. I'm not behind the last 2years of the deal but if that's what it took to get him for the next 5years good on Texas. He's a vast improvement over David Murphy. You figure though that 20/20 becomes 15/10 the moment his age catches up to him. And I still am leery about players being paid like this when it takes him in to retirement to trust that the age won't catch up to him quicker than longer. What's Choo's motivation to put maybe 6-8hours a day towards Baseball and not just cash in to 1-3hours a day quoting that "I'm at an age I know what I need to do to prepare myself" As a sports fan, I really despise that teams have to resort to these kinds of deals. That a Players Union has enough power to allow any kind of contract over 5years. Just on the fact that when the deal goes bad for the team it really can hurt a franchise/fanbase. I feel that way with contracts needing to be more performance based as I feel drivers age 55 and above should have to take a road test every 2years. Maybe there needs to be an age set on deals like only to age 35 when the player is limited to year to year/2yr deals only. To save Franchises from themselves. -
Does anyone else fear that when there's room to add a player it could turn out as being Yuni? I'm really hoping its to make room for a trade, but you figure a trade would take 1 from our 40man to begin with so unless we trade for 2 40man additions for our 1, maybe this is just about a future signing.

1. Yovani Gallardo to be a #2 Pitcher again first and foremost if we're going to be successful 2. Braun to hit his career norms and be Braun again while continuing to work on his image with the fans here 3. Work on their Pitching program to avoid injuries as well as improve the pitchers with control 4. Strictly draft high upside HS kids with their 1st 3 picks. 5. To give Rickie Weeks zero chance of 600PAs

Rangers sign Shin-Soo Choo: 7-yr/$130mil
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
A player and term signing like Choo is a 1st round comp deal. 7years? Okay 1st rd pick. If the guy isn't signed beyond 3years I think it's a poor choice to give up a 1st rd pick. The Tanaka non-posting made this become reality. It probably is better for Texas considering their makeup. They needed a Leadoff hitter Choo provides. No more Kinsler their #2 hitter, would have meant trusting their 1/2 of Martin and? to get OB ahead of Beltre/Fielder. Not a good situation imo. I'm surprised the 7yr wasn't an option year. He'll be 32-38 through the deal. Which pairs with Fielder's, and you just have to figure, the age regression will hit 1 of them or maybe both. -
Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The truth with Rickie is this. He is payed 11mil this year. He blows, there's zero value to him right now. He succeeds guess what? There's zero chance DM trades him since he's helping the team. If he is bad again...Mr. .155 BA for 2+months, he is untradeable again and Brewers are on the hook for 11mil for him this year regardless. I'm just looking to see him traded with that whole "Change of Scenery" upside because he's very overpaid at 11mil. and certainly hasn't shown signs that he can avoid being a complete Black Hole sucking wins from this team for consecutive months at a time. The K's, more Ground Outs, and less Power, with poor defense. It's demoralizing. Come Opening Day and Weeks is on the Brewers Roster, I understand the Platoon situation with Scooter and I know it makes sense. It just doesn't make sense to pay someone 11mil to be platooned and start less than 1/3rd the games since his platoon bat is from the RH side. The only thing I recall when thinking about Scooter as a prospect was that he has a potentially Plus Hit Tool. That's why I'm for him playing 2b alone if we can get rid of Weeks. If the guy is a hitter/can flat out hit in the long run, he's going to improve over time. Look at Lucroy or Braun or Aoki. Guys that are capable of hitting, they don't have ridiculous bad months like Weeks did. A bad month is going .260BA. They just rack up .280-.310 months otherwise. I enjoy guys who can hit like that. Having multiples are even better. Vs. the thought that man, on a bad day with a good pitcher on the mound, this could be a No-hitter game. Scooter just seems like he can be the type that will break up a no-hitter should he evolve with being a plus hitter. Honestly, Scooter makes me think of the type of player the Cardinals have that kill Milwaukee. Seeing eye singles, tough outs that kind of ilk. Hating the Cardinals, it nice to think of giving them a taste of what we endure back. -
The Dodgers signed a guy named Alex Guerrero 26yr old Cuban defector 4/28 to play 2B. That's not the kind of money you pay a guy to sit in your minors. He'll be playing for LA in 2014

Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Danzig, I know Rickie will likely start 90% of the games vs LH Starters. And sure he ought to put up better numbers than Scooter. What I'm advocating is that overall those numbers aren't going to be all that great for okay 40-45 Games to leave Rickie on the roster paying him 11mil next season. You're proposal that there's "Clearly a better solution sitting on the bench" is making my point. Is Rickie's .735 or worse OPS clearly a better solution? Everyone keeps bringing up the overall numbers vs. all Lefties in arguing against me. A platoon isn't about every AB it's about playing LHP vs RHB and RHP vs LHB to start the game. When the RP comes in though? Few things come to mind. 1. LOOGY's are meant to get leftys out. But, the reason they are LOOGYs is because they are terrible at getting righties out(typically) 2. LH RPs are RPs because their stuff isn't good enough to get RHB out over multiple innings. 3. LH RPs are RPs because they are wild. All this is stuff that works in Rickie's favor and not Gennett's. And a normal manager would Pinch Hit in these circumstances. Rickie's OPS vs LH RPs is better than vs Starters. Gennetts OPS vs RPs is worse than vs a starter. That is where I'm seeing less an impact than is being argued against my opinion. The splits vs Starters isn't justifying a platoon on Rickie's side. It does when it is against a relief pitcher meaning pinch hit situations. What Milwaukee needs to do is pay a team 7-9mil to take Rickie off our hands and stick with Gennett. There isn't a need to Platoon Gennett with Rickie at 11mil on the payroll. When, you can open a roster spot for I don't know another OF, Pitcher, 1b/3b option. While saving your team 2-4million. It's just been said already, you have a likely 1b only Platoon and likely you may platoon 1 in the OF. We're carrying Gennett/Weeks who only fit 2b and have no other usefullness beyond Pinch hitting. -
Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Ah, yes, let's include all, LHP right? Because in the 7th inning or later PAs, if Scooter is being started, in a close game and a LHP is brought in...Wouldn't a manager simply PINCH HIT Scooter? If the game is 3runs or more then I'd imagine he stays in. See, my point really isn't the numbers Scooter may post vs LHP it's the numbers RICKIE posts vs LHP. last two seasons worth of PAs are under .735OPS against Starters. What about that makes one think he is a great Platoon partner. Now if it were anything like Scooter's .946OPS vs RHP then of course it makes sense. If you're going to Platoon a guy at least have it be with someone who wil OPS over .800 no? vs the opposite handed pitcher? The idea of Platooning someone is because while being dominated by the same sides pitcher that batter dominates the opposite sided pitcher. Rickie doesn't do that. When I read about Platooning someone it is oh, he has .850+OPS vs. the .660OPS. And you have the platoon partner who is just that .850+OPS on the side the guy who hits .660 OPS but a .660OPS on the side he has an .850+ OPS. Rickie last two seasons. .735 or LESS OPS vs LH Starters. He isn't providing the prototypical numbers to platoon him with Scooter. Rickie should strictly face LH RPs later in the game. Or, I'd include him vs LH Starters that are prone to giving up HRs to RHB. -
Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'm going to add, it would be a different story if we had more every day LH bats in the lineup. But as it stands, Gennett is the only everyday LH batter on the roster with 1b providing the 2nd most LH PAs most likely moving forward. Playing Gennett vs. LH Starters doesn't make us have to bat Shafer or Juan Fran up in the batting order or have one of them bat in the 1 or 2hole. We're a RH batting team set to kill LHP. -
Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
By your logic, it would make sense to let a LOOGY reliever pitch as much against righthanded batters as lefties, even though righthanded hitters crush that guy because that alone won't cause a team to lose a bunch more games. No not even close in my logic. My logic in your ideal would be to allow a LOOGY to pitch vs Righties if it were Lefty,Righty,Lefty, Lefty in a batting lineup. Or, Lefty, Lefty, Righty, Lefty. If you're batting Scooter 8th ahead of a Pitcher few things come to mind. I did the Pitchers batting numbers last season. .141BA and a .151OB with another .129 of PAs finishing in sacrifices. We know Scooter isn't a guy to rely on beyond 10HRs in a season. And based on his Minors numbers in 550PAs avg he'll have roughly 36 XBH of 152hits. Let's assume the majority of them come vs RHP. Even at Scooter .270/.330 Batting line, it comes to roughly 22% of his season avg. OB him being on 1b ahead of the pitcher. With 3% being on 3b or a HR. and 5% being standing on 2b. Requiring the Pitcher to have a hit to score him if Scooter hadn't already done so with a HR. How often do you figure Gennett comes to the plate with 0outs batting 8th? The most ideal situation for him to get on base, maybe see the Pitcher move him in to scoring position and leadoff have a chance to score him? If it's 1out or 2outs based on Gennett's .330OB projection 67% of the time the pitcher comes up with 2outs or Scooter ends the inning. So yeah, I'm of belief that you can hide Gennett in the 8 spot vs LHP not having to platoon him. That it isn't necessary for us to keep Rickie on the team just to be Scooter's Platoon partner. What is the average number of Left Handed SPs we see vs. Right Handed starting Pitchers? Maybe 20-24%? So now we're looking around 32-38Games to honestly be concerned about this? And again with 3PAs in those games? So pretty much 96-114PAs on the season as a LH Bat batting 8th vs a LH SP? I just don't see the overall impact Scooter will have playing vs LH Starters over playing Rickie. Rickie's career line vs LH Starter: .246/.364/.431 2013: .195/.300/.327 .627OPS 2012: .224/.353/.382 .735OPS I mean please explain to me the number of Wins/Losses Scooter's Bat vs. Rickie's bat will amount to on the season? Btw Scooter's line vs LH Starters last season: .296/.321/.407 .728OPS At 11mil vs. 525k in payroll Just move Rickie already to make space on the Roster for some kind of other position. I'm trying to fathom the number of runs scored Rickie may provide over Scooter in the LH Starting games on the season....Like 3 more runs? Maybe 6runs? Maybe -1run? And between the two in the field my guess is Rickie loses 1-3 of those runs. So to me we're talking about 3 runs maybe on the season Rickie may create more over Scooter. So maybe the difference all season long to go 83-78 or 84-77? To me it's that insignificant. -
I think it's Holiday,Bourjos, and Jay currently keeping the OF warm until Tavaras is ready. Craig doesn't read all that well defensively in the OF. He wasn't brought up through the minors as an OF either. Basically he was put in the OF so his bat could get in the lineup. What does StL. do when Tavaras is ready? They'd still have Adams or Craig to put in the lineup with only 1 spot to do so. I guess sure the Cards could just keep the duo as backups to one another/OF if/when Bourjos/Holiday miss games due to injury.

Why Scooter should NOT be platooned
brewcrewdue80 replied to TURBO's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think overall the impact of Scooter as a LH batter vs. LH pitcher will for 1 be less impactful than Danzig is making out to being. Look, if the guy is bad against him it would mean a lot if you know he's your #1-#5 batter. But guess what? For the most part I expect him to be #7 or #8. Meaning he's being dominated 3PAs, 2 if you end up PH him the 3rd AB, ahead of the what? .100OB of a pitcher? Whoa, that's scary!(sarcasm) Let's think Platoon wise, you can have Segura/Gomez 1/2 in the lineup vs LHP. And Scooter #1 or #2 vs. RHP. Maybe he improves maybe he doesn't. But Scooter's bat isn't the type you're relying on the most/2nd most/3rd most/etc on the season. You know what you're expecting out of him. It's not Power, it's not OB machine, its a decently consistent BA out of him while playing an Average 2b defensively. While paying him what? 3mil over the next 4seasons to do so. WS teams do not have All-Star Players at every position. They don't have .800OPS guys at every position who don't make the all-star game. StLouis got .548! OPS overall! on...the...season! from Pete Kozma yet that didn't keep them from winning the division nor making it to the WS. Sure, you don't want to fill your team with Kozmas but Scooter I'd think is a better batter than him. The Brewers have enough .800OPS guys to plug in your 2-5holes. I think Scooter can be managed vs LHP without being platooned the next few seasons. Just by dropping him in the batting order. Now, if this were the AL and no pitcher being batted, then yeah those numbers could be cause for concern to platoon him but again you bat him 8th ahead of the pitcher and watch as a good or poor ab vs. LHP is either wasted or not since that Pitcher is just going to K more than likely. -
2014 Qualifying Offers Discussion
brewcrewdue80 replied to brewcrewdue80's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
While some teams may be able to afford them it doesn't mean they want them. Being stuck with a guy you wanted to replace might not be worth a draft pick. Especially for a the teams who can afford them. The value of a draft pick isn't as high as it is for a low revenue team. They can always buy the player they want. Hell they can buy a couple a year and get them for even lower draft picks. It only took a second rounder for the Yankees to get Sabathia because they bought Teixeira the same year. That's sorta where I'm heading with this. That 1 signing by a team should not reduce the penalty they receive for signing another(and that aforementioned Sabathia/Texiera was before QOs) So if the Yankees sign 2-3 1st round comp guys they are penalized 1st rd picks regardless. If they only have 1 this year then the 2nd and 3rd are penalized the next season and so forth til they pay off their penalty. The same would happen with my idea for the 2nd rd comps. You aren't penalized a 3rd rd selection, You lose a Second 2nd rd choice whether it be that season's draft of the following year's. I think this would work far better overall than this current system because a guy who's about a 70th-100th best player in baseball getting a QO today is penalizing the team that signs him way too much. Also, a small market team truly has the chance to make QOs even if it's on 1st rd comp because the 21-23mil it would cost should they accept it should be better than market value of what that player is about to get in FA. And they can always proceed with trading the player away if he accepts it and leaves them in a 1year financial bind. (What's Pitts. going to do about McCutchen?) But meanwhile a quality guy sorta like AJ Burnett, older, can be offered the 2nd rd. QO. Something I guess would be at 10mil a year. Should he accept it great it didn't cost Pittsburgh 1/8th, or worse, their entire team payroll. Vs. the 1/16th it costs the LAs,NYs,Chc of MLB. Think about it, would Milwaukee have offered Hart a 2nd rd. QO this offseason? I'd think so. It's really terrible that what is potentially the 2nd-3rd best Bat in this Free Agency lost by Milwaukee comes with zero compensation! But to offer Hart today's QO was to offer him a 4mil raise after not playing all year. The 2nd rd QO though would be right in line with what he may make this year anyway. If Corey goes on to a 25+HR year in Seattle you have to wonder do they QO him like Morales? Stealing away the compensation Milwaukee could have gotten had it not been for his knee injuries. It just burns because thus far Milwaukee has been screwed by the FA compensation over the last 4years. Sabathia, taking in Lohse, and now Hart. -
2014 Qualifying Offers Discussion
brewcrewdue80 replied to brewcrewdue80's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The thought of Morales becoming Milwaukee's 1b made me thing of how to fix the QO system. It's based on the average of the top 75 paid players in baseball. Which to me, I think I worked out that just the top 10 last season accounted for 3mil added on to the average alone. I think the way to fix this QO is to two tier it. First, make 1st rd compensation based on a player turning down the average of the top 40 paid players in baseball. Then have a 2nd rd compensation(actually reverting back to taking over that team's pick vs end of round) and base that QO to a FA on the average of #s 41-100 paid players in Baseball. Morales turning down 14mil was quite dumb. He's one of the slowest in all of baseball and his bat for a DH only situation isn't a big upgrade over what most teams already have. But it he was tied to a 2nd round comp having turned down my idea of the 2nd tier QO he'd have turned away likely from around 9-10mil. And, having just a 2nd round comp attached to him he as a free agent may actually see his true Free Agent value. The 14mil per over 3years. But 14mil per over 3 years and losing a 1st rd pick? Like I said in the other topic, I see him having to settle for 3/33 vs the 3/42 he could be getting. Obviously if you are offering a QO based on the top 40 average paid MLB player, you are an elite player, and more than likely will be signed away regardless of the 1st rd comp. I think this would turn in to a win-win situation if hammered out for both the teams losing FAs while the FAs don't lose out on money. -
There is no way you sign Morales for 1year and even 2years would be dumb when you lose your #1 pick/ 12th overall in the draft! You sign him to lose that pick you are guaranteeing 4 years. Nothing like guaranteeing money to 30+somethings and losing your draft pick while at it no? Let's add, according to BRef, he's been worth 4.9WAR over the last 2seasons. But, to get to that 4.9WAR he was Negative -2.7WAR defensively...That defense at 1b? 515innings worth in those 2years or combined just 57full games! So let's imagine that over 162games...he's would add up to being worth -7WAR defensively and still likely be worth 3WAR offensively. Now of course we all know that won't be true, his MVP season he was actually at 1b all year and was 0WAR defensively. But still, seems to me this is a DH guy not an everyday 1b. At what point money-wise does it actually become okay to give up the draft pick? Morales being tied to draft pick compensation, has lost money due to it. Like Lohse who went for 3/33 I'm thinking Morales is in line for about the same kind of deal maybe even 3/30 with a 16mil option like ARam's on the 4th year. Let's think with Lohse's deal the low 1st year deferred money, I wonder if Melvin would work it out just like that, 4-6mil this year then 13mil each of the next 2years. Taking Weeks salary off payroll suddenly makes that contract fit. Sigh Can I change my vote to Morales now? It only makes sense to chase the playoffs(because they think we're competitive with StL) with future destroying decisions by our FO.
-
Overpaying for a first baseman would be about the dumbest thing we could do at this point. He has 5 years of team control a 900OPS in the minors guy. Looks like a solid 25HR or more guy. We have an issue for a 1b and Adams would solve it a whole lot longer than any other person available out there....Barring of course this: Kendrys Morales is being pursued by National League teams as well as American League teams, agent Scott Boras tells Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports (Twitter links). Boras describes Morales as a "first baseman who can DH" but Morosi thinks that the draft pick compensation issue will hurt his value. Yeah you want to lose your draft pick? May as well sign him to a 5year deal equaling Adams for team control. Knowing that we are searching for a 1b like the Pirates, you are lead to wonder that if they claim NL teams are interested it pretty much is like claiming Milwaukee is interested as Pittsburgh isn't going to be one to afford Morales. Back to Adams, at this point considering how phenomally built St. Louis' roster is now and long term, I can't picture what they can possible take from Milwaukee to help them?
-
At this point, I think it's best to just sit tight and see which player takes the 1b role out of Francisco,Halton,Morris, and Rogers. Let ST go on and let the Battle commence! Meanwhile, while other teams make their final roster moves(including waiving guys) if any particular waived player may be a better 1b option than what we have we pick them up essentially free of cost. Mike Carp could have been that guy last season before Boston got him. Travis Ishikawa was available off waivers. For all we know the Mets just may cut bait on Davis altogether. They have to choose between Duda/Davis are selling Davis as hard as possible because guess what? Davis is due 3.5mil this year. Stand pat and let the Mets take 1 of our nobody minors guy or they waive him and we end up with him anyhow. But the worst thing to do would be to give up Thornburg for him. There is no doubt in my mind there will be at least 5 capable 1b waived in Spring Training from other teams who have a better 1b option and need the roster space for another player/position. I'd still honestly do my best to overpay for Matt Adams from St. Louis. That should be Milwaukee's target. Yeah it's inter-division but so what? you have a dire need for a 1b find a way to get him.

RP Addison Reed to ARZ; 3B Matt Davidson to CHW
brewcrewdue80 replied to torts's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
While Davidson may not be an AllStar he would have at least been a regular at 3b when ARam is no longer manning it. Hart gone leaves a hole at 1b. ARam gone leaves a hole at 3b. Davidson was a guy that was ML ready and would have been very useful to have considering our 3b situation in the minors. Did the Brewers have a pitcher like Reed to pull this move? Well no Henderson doesn't fit Reed's profile. But the notion of trading Gallardo last deadline for Davidson and maybe 1 or 2 other type prospects would have been ideal. Holmberg was already dealt and maybe you could have latched on to Jake Lamb for Gallardo. Sure our pitching would have taken a hit but who know how Holmberg would have turned out? Davidson would have been the 3b we needed(and maybe ARam would be dealt today) and Lamb has a promising looking RP ahead. Now, Davidson isn't special? Well so what? you have Delmonico hopefully coming, Neuhaus/Coulter as future 3b considerations. 3 years of Davidson covering 3b at minimum can't be a terrible thing. Anyway, I was liking the pairing with Arizona originally and Gallardo because what could have come in return. But Melvin fell asleep once again on pulling the deal...unlike Towers in Arizona. -
FWIW, I'm not high on Smoak/Moreland. I'd roll the dice with Davis before the other two. Carp is interesting to consider, but you're buying high on him after his year last season and that's a scary thought because he's never played more than 86 games in a season to suddenly be your everyday 1b? I just feel that Carp of the options would be the most likely to OPS .750 or higher.... which for a 1b is rather sad when we complain about Gennett maybe reaching .725OPS like that is terrible...These available options at 1b aren't looking much better than Gennett. None of these guys are worthwhile everyday starters, only stopgaps. So there better be non-talented players going to the other teams if we trade for any of them. I'm still on board with just running Halton,Francisco and Morris at 1b. I mean if we are looking at .750OPS being the best we can get, can't these guys come at least close to it?
