  1. Wait the Dbacks get rid of Eaton + Skaggs for Trumbo? Wow that's brutal! And wait, who plays CF for Arizona? Pollock? and then? Or does Towers go out and sign Choo anyway? I guess they have Parra and Ross. Maybe they platoon Parra and Pollock in CF then? Not a fan of this deal for Arizona. I get sending Skaggs for Trumbo but to add Eaton? I mean that's two top 75 Prospects for 3 years of Trumbo coming off that under .300OB right? Anaheim has to be thrilled by this deal. 2 younger cost controlled SPs at their disposal. White Sox taking in Eaton? Confusing in that wasn't Avisail Garcia acquired to be that? So they will run an OF of Garcia/Eaton who you wonder if they'll combine for 20HRs between them?
  2. No. Where's he stand right now? 7-9BB/per 9? In Homerun friendly Miller? Walk,Walk, 3run HR loss. While Marmol may have 46 scoreless innings. There will be 12innings he appears where he gives up 30runs+ essentially losing every one of those games unless it was out of hand in the first place.
  3. 3:50pm: The Brewers aren't on the verge of acquiring Morrison, GM Doug Melvin tells Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel Seems to make sense when you add the latest Ike Davis discussions once again. Guess we're out of the running for LoMo. I said I wasn't for him unless it was to dump Juan Francisco on the Marlins. Guess we can't swap crapshoot for crapshoot
  4. I don't know if the 40Man can fit both Hart/Morrison unless the player being dealt for LoMo is a Roster'd player.
  5. The real question is what is Gomez worth today in prospects? What is he worth if he's a 5WAR+ player again this season and you trade his final two years? What do you give up for Gomez for his final year before free Agency being a 5+WAR CF? Let's be on the optimistic side and say that Gomez will continue playing at this current level he's at. a 5WAR+ CF. What is the decline in the Gomez trade package from 3years of Gomez to 2years? And then to 1 year? You can attach a QO to Gomez being a 5WAR player so already you should be getting a B type Prospect just because of the comp pick regardless of Gomez and his value. Now 5WAR is special you're looking at 15WAR or more for 3years. It is in line with what David Price is worth in approximation. So a top 20Prospect today should be in the discussion with that B Prospect. Then to me he's still worthy of another B type Prospect near A- type prospect because prospects don't always pan out right? So you had better give us two to increase our odds of seeing 1 of them work. That 3rd B prospect isn't for Gomez but for the compensation. pretty much you likely take a team's 2011-2012 draft pick in the 1st/2nd round and say you get that player in 2016 again when Gomez leaves. Don't forget the value to the team that trades for Gomez. You have the rights to extend his contract while under your team control. So to me it's an A, A-/B+, and a B prospect today for Gomez. If you trade him at the trade deadline to next offseason I think the decline in the package is to an A, B+/B, and a B prospect. But in his final year I think Gomez isn't worth an A prospect anymore and he's not worth 3 prospects he becomes worth 2 B+/B prospects. So I'm okay if they hang on to Gomez this year especially with Aoki gone and being confident Gomez is a 5WAR player. But he cannot stay on the team for 2015 because he loses way to much value. The one team that's been mentioned is Seattle. If I'm them I throw all I can at Choo and trade for Gomez. An OF of Saunders,Gomez, and Choo offensively/defensively is something that with Cano can produce runs. You add to it Zunino/Miller blossoming and yeah Felix just may get the Offense he's never had. Getting Walker for Gomez would be A+ in Prospect haul and I think their only needs to be a B Prospect afterward. Again you look at Franklin being disposable, maybe you can keep Gennett and send over Weeks. Or I'm also asking about Pryor. Walker and Pryor would be serious additions for Milwaukee from the downgrade of Gomez to Schafer. With that Cano signing it's about the only way they can go I feel or else the guy is a moron. Sign Choo get Gomez win! I also think that for Seattle to consider trading for Price or say Gomez as we are hoping that having Hultzen shelved really should have put the brakes on these moves. Hultzen was the guy that to me is your trade bait and you can't trade him right now. So the target becomes Walker by everyone and he's the next King Felix potentially today. While Hultzen wasn't looking as high an upside, but, an upside that a team would take in a package for Price with Franklin/Miller and maybe a RP. I just think that in the end Seattle is going to have this all turn out bad because of Hultzen being injured. And them my next prediction is that Hultzen who remains with Seattle Busts!!! LOL It's going to be a viscious cycle of events.
  6. Justin Morneau. 2/13? 1b solved!
  7. As far as I know the Brewers get zero aid in any signings unless a team with a protected top 10 pick signs 2 QO offered players. Yeah the Yankees signed Ellsbury lost their 1st rd selection. But Boston gained the end of first round (pre Brewers 2nd selection) in it's place. What the Yankees lost for draft picks, the Cardinals,Red Sox, and Braves gained in end of 1st round draft pick no? So it stays the same either way for Milwaukee. I'm not going to complain with how they reward/penalize as it seems fair. Lose a QO player gain a late 20s selection But again this doesn't hurt the rich teams whatsoever! Yankees sign 3QO players lose two all they did was lost their 1st rd selection that was in the 20th range so not a great player coming their way most likely. They really aren't affected by this QO deal so far. It actually gained them picks last year now they lose 1. Colby what I wanna know is who's your eyes on today at the 12th selection? Has it changed from your previous posts?
  8. Yeah, we went all of last season with Yuni on the roster. And it was a disaster. What's your point, that we shouldn't have been proactive in bringing in first basemen that would likely be at or above replacement level? Depending on how you value defense, there's a good chunk of the depth of the team that's likely to be at or below replacement value. Being cheap means squat if you're at replacement value. The Brewers shouldn't be automatically handing a roster spot to anyone if they're cheap and bad, especially if they have options. Now, I'm not expecting the Brewers to go hog wild in free agency to address all those spots, but I'd like for them to keep their eyes open. What's my point? That Maldonado on a terrible season was a 0WAR player. He hit to the tune of .768OPS in AAA and .668OPS in AA I would imagine that his .520OPS last season is one that isn't about to be repeated. A .660OPS out of him likely makes him a 1-2WAR Catcher with his defense. So you are searching for somebody the team already has. If he bats to a .760OPS he's 2WAR+ on the season. I just don't get how 1 awful year by a guy playing backup vs. everyday has he was accostumed to means that moving forward he's automatically a .520OPS hitter? He's having an offseason to make new adjustments. I fully expect him to bat in the .650 or better OPS moving forward and that should be a +WAR backup C. Say he fails this season the team sends him back to AAA so be it, Lucroy can just start 9/10 games. vs. 4/5games. If Lucroy goes down for a long period of games, either Maldonado will perform like 2012 with the added games started or we'll make a move to find a replacement. You're searching for a replacement catcher among replacement catchers? That's my point. Anybody from the available pool of catchers you can get to be Lucroy's backup are likely Catchers who can be -2WAR to 1WAR depending if they happen to get hot for a stretch or never do. That's what we have now.
  9. What Position Player has gotten 20+mil in even his 3rd year in arbitration? Anaheim could try locking him to a long term deal but if they just went through with 4 more service years and then traded his last year for some 2-3 insane prospect package, isn't that better than to commit 30-36mil a year when he's to become a Free Agent? Let's be honest he's going to be a 33-36mil/year FA if he hits the market. and at 10 years you assume. So that's 360mil 2019-2028 If you were Anaheim today can you sign him to a 14year deal for 360mil? If you're Mike Trout would you even pass on that? Maybe it's for 320mil? How great would that be for Trout+his agent to get the 300mil+contract Cano was looking for? But my guess would be Trout would be wise to extend to his 30year old season. Take Anaheim with a buyout of his arb years and add 4 years with a huge option 5th year. This way for Trout he gets in on this big money today while giving himself the opportunity to cash in on a Cano 10year contract when he hits Free agency. And something like these 4 years going for 50mil with his FA years going in lines like: 24/25/27/27 with his option year being 33mil. So all told he'd be signing on at 8years 153mil with option to make it 9/186mil. I would think every year Trout gets closer to FA adds 2mil per year to any deal he signs. And remember Trout this year will only be making roughly 530k unless they buy his arb controlled years out giving him more this season.
  10. Well, the latest MLBTR rumblings have 10 teams having shown interest in Morrison and checking in with Miami. I will say that between Francisco and Morrison I'd do the deal and there may be some interest by Miami in that deal. They are connected in Tampa's 3b Sean Rodriquez to fill in during the pre-Colin Moran era. So how about Francisco being that fillin?
  11. I think we are underselling Gomez aren't we? Paxton is 25? and wasn't impressive in the minors last season only to show some success in the Majors. I'd take Hellweg above Paxton. Would you trade Gomez for Hellweg? 3 years of Gomez at pennies to the dollar in value? Plus QO worthiness? So already you figure him being replaced when he departs with a B type potential Prospect? I don't know if Walker would be traded for Gomez. But if he was offered up + Stephen Pryor I'd strongly consider it. The situation with Gennett or Franklin/Miller is tough. I think either of them are SS capable for Seattle and I'd likely consider Miller over Franklin. Better Bb/K ratio I think his bat is further along than Franklin's. You play either him or Segura at SS the other at 2b. But of course that displaces both Gennett and Weeks this year so the trade doesn't fit well. But really the great get would be Walker + Pryor. Ace+ future Closer and we know how much value is in quality closers. That's really the only deal I make. Now, I would inquire with Seattle on Erasmo Ramirez for Lohse Or better yet. To offer Lohse plus Gennett for Franklin and Ramirez. I think Ramirez has potential. Is only 23 coming back from an injury and will bounceback soon to a 3.6ish ERA SP. Saving money and acquiring Ramirez/Franklin over Gennett is just too hard not to want.(Again I'd take Miller 1st but Franklin is likely on the tables) Really your get there is the upgrade for 2b long term over Gennett while potentially grabbing a very strong young #3 for your rotation.
  12. Why would you as the Mariners change your stance from 8 years 200mil? Why? The Yankees firmly said they weren't touching 200mil for Cano, Signed!...Signed! Kelly Johnson! Effectively ending their search to retain Cano at 2b! If anything I'd have lowered my offer down to 7/180 and gave him 1 week to decide. I mean Seattle was in the drivers seat here with Franklin and the Yankees looking out of the Cano talks! Who else? if any team was their connection to the money NY was offering in the first place? 7/175? Really a poor deal! One I don't get. Seattle should have gone after Choo. That's who they needed to acquire today and sat ready to figure out their team's future for 2015. So, So many young graduated prospects to sift through to see where you're at and where you may need to strengthen! But Choo is one addition they didn't have covered to play RF for them. Why you would pay him beyond age 36 is beyond me. There is far too much risk involved in skills or age related injuries to pay him 20+mil for age 37-41!
  13. I certainly feel the opposite about the bullpen. There isn't one player currently likely to be in it with any kind of moderate to lengthy history of success aside from maybe Gorzelanny. Imo it could wind up being a strength just as easily as it could wind up being really bad. It starts with Henderson, Figaro, Kintzler, Hand, now Smith, Blazek add Thornburg or Hellweg. And you have Wooten/Olmstead. Sure they aren't very experienced, but that's where the beauty in it is, is that they are all younger, cheap BP guys who when any of them succeed, are on the roster for at least 3more years if not 4. Based on experience I figure Henderson is closer 1/Blazek closer 2(role in StL system) Figaro is setup with now Smith backup Smith is 7th inning with Kintzler as well. Hand/Wooten/Blazek as fillers. Gorzo/Thornburg/Hellweg as long relief. Figaro as a Starter: 25IP 19ER 6.84ERA as a RP: 49IP 15ER 2.75ERA Hand as starter: 36.2IP 17ER 4.23ERA as a RP: 35.2IP 11ER 2.81ERA Obviously this is about Smith who was very successful so with Henderson that is 4 solid RP beside Gorzo. Kinztler/Blazek/Wooten/Olmstead are the wildcards here to hope perform well.
  14. I think it's been explained but Price is a Super 2 so while this is his 3rd go in Arb he has 4 before Free Agency. I say they can afford him this season because their core remains cheap this year. Longoria/Zobrist jump in salary next season and a number of core guys hit Arb for the 1st time. Plus you have to imagine Price goes for 20ish mil in arb next season...team contol..lol for a Super 2? not much a bargain. When you factor that in Tampa is approaching Milwaukee Payroll 80mil range. For a club whose fan base doesn't give them 20k avg attendence for a 90win club. Taking in Gallardo(let's not forget his #4 starter value) with the money attached doesn't improve their payroll situation much. Nor does he fit in a crowded SP of Moore, Cobb, Odorizzi, Colome,Archer, Romero,Hellickson. Which also negates the value of Thornburg sent to them in the deal. From what I see Tampa needs some kind of SS prospect/2b Prospect. A 1b and OF Prospect. 1b prospects aren't really a strong suit right now. SS prospects are out there though and obviously so are OF prospects. If I'm Tampa the youth of Urias makes perfect sense to get for future SP. And Pederson is a ML ready in the waits OF that they can insert today to help their team. How does Kershaw,Price,Grienke,Ryu Rotation look?
  15. I'm not worried about the leadoff. I think Segura can carry a .340OB. Definitely a plus base stealer for leadoff hitter. I like that the team went Smith over the rumored Mets for Ike Davis idea. Smith went 7IP in 5 of his starts in 2012. Pitched in the 7th in another and managed through 6IP in 3 starts. That's 9 starts 6ip or better out of 16. I think that 1 a move to the NL may help but 2 this really strengthens the #5 rotation picture. Thornburg/Smith. The other being a long reliever. There's clearly a use for Smith on this team. There's a use for Aoki but the same can be said on Schafer,Gindl and Davis after Braun/Gomez. It's the "finally a move of strength to an area of need" move we know most have asked for. Honestly, looking at the Bullpen for 2014, you have to feel quite reassured it can be of strength for 2014 and beyond and not feel it's a patchwork year to year deal like it has been recently.
  16. Yeah I was going to put off the top of my head that I thought with Badenhop and Aoki they were sitting at around 87-88mil. BRef lists the team's payroll as 83.7mil. What's the projected ceiling? I imagine 88-92mil. They may just set it here at 84mil. Leaving wiggle room should they actually compete as they tell us they can.
  17. Wow, where was I when this trade happened? it certainly wasn't mentioned on MLBTR by 7am this morning? Anyway. I'm not upset overall to this trade. MLBTR's writeup on Smith suggests he can get Righties out besides dominating Lefties. Doesn't sound like a closer...maybe not even a setup 8th inning guy, but a very solid 7th inning guy who may be able to pitch multiple innings. I don't think we've really had that 7th inning guy recently. Henderson as a Rookie was close while Blowford and KRud was losing games for us in 2012. I get a feeling that KRod's trade and return with Axford may have Melvin thinking best way to acquire a need in trade is with valuable BP guy. Now we have Thornburg and Smith to likely compete for Trade candidate of 2015/16. Depending on what happens with our options players. You know Smith will contribute for the Brewers. So that's better than a fringe 100-150 prospect who never pans out. And having him for at least 4 more years I'm okay with it. For the Royals, I have been stating from around day 1 of Aoki's trade rumors that they need him. He's perfect Leadoff for them whom they kept playing 2 guys that just weren't ready for it. They need to trade Butler though now or Hosmer. Hosmer is more the core piece long term so Butler has to be moved. It'll be interesting how that pans out. Because they've essentially made it a must for them to move him and that must devalues him in my opinion vs. being we'll move him if our asking price is met. I see Segura leading off with either Braun,Lucroy,Gomez,Gennett #2. Really I feel like Lucroy should be the #2 moving forward with Davis. Segura,Lucroy,Braun,ARam,Davis,Gomez,Gennett,Francisco is how I picture the lineup going.
  18. And yet we went all of last season with Yuni on the Roster? I understand your wanting to have a better backup. But I just don't believe Maldonado will be a .169 hitter again. And any improved numbers offensively for him has to change him from that -.1WAR to a positive no? I mean how much worse can he possibly hit than last season? That's how I am looking at it, is if his absolute bottom is that of 0WAR then he's going to be a positive WAR player more likely than not until his defensive abilities erode.
  19. That sounds good on the Brewers side. For Hart though it doesn't because he knows his knees and is likely going for guaranteed money. I still believe a team not the Brewers will give Corey a 2year deal with guaranteed money. The idea and upside of acquiring a 30HR RH bat to play 1b will be too enticing to not outbid Milwaukee with a guaranteed 2nd year. Edit add: Also that 2nd year would be a whole lot less stressful on a club in the AL with using Corey as DH should his knees early on break down on him. If he can jog around the basepaths and still crank a few HRs paying him 6-9mil a year they are still getting value from him.
  20. I think the Mets see him at 1b above the headaches of Davis. He's why Davis is available. It'd take more to get Duda than to get Davis who has the better potential.
  21. As been said, the Brewers don't have the pieces to acquire Price. Tampa Bay has Payroll restrictions. And honestly with Longoria's long term deal as well as now having Myers who you know will have a Longoria type deal before we extend Segura. They just can't afford Price next season. They can afford him this year but again their GM is the best small-mid market GM in Baseball. He's made Price available, it's known and go ahead and make your offers. He isn't waiting til next season when Price will be a 17mil or more pitcher with just his final year of team control. He's giving a team 2 years of Price while he's healthy. There's going to be 2 A type Prospects coming over in trade for Price. Now to me if they are A type prospects I wouldn't let them go. But there's desperation in some teams to make it to the WS like the Dodgers and all their spending super team. I can see Joc Pederson and Julio Urias being their offer. And maybe some ML player with money to Tampa. Or another prospect done the line. Urias' upside is just what Tampa wants in these deals.
  22. Well to me clearly they should get an A Prospect. I'd also have a B and a C with upside Prospect for a return for Gomez. There's no doubt they should get an expect ML Player in return. Thinking Wil Myers like from the Shields deal. The B prospect would be like Odorizzi. But the C Prospect should actually be better than Montgomery as Gomez for 1 has another year on his deal and 2 is being paid less. I really don't think trading Gomez results in losing much overall on the Major League team. My guess is they add a Player like Segura was who immediately helps the team better than the individual who we had pegged for that spot. But the B Prospect is a bonus to add to our system. And let's be honest here, Gomez should net an A and 2 B prospects since you just have to project in your trade discussions that he's going to net a top 30pick when he becomes a FA. I wanted Gomez traded away last season, it hasn't changed but his value is more today than it was last season. Sell High for Once! I honestly think a Ryan Braun type core player could be in return. Like Wil Myers guys like Noah Syndergaard. Taijaun Walker. Even let's say Addison Russell Colorado traded away Dexter Fowler. There's a Prospect Package from them that could work. San Diego has a CF need and a ton of Pitching Prospects. Take Max Fried and Jedd Gyorko from them with Robbie Erlin. There's just so many good young prospects in other team's minors that can use Gomez! Yet there's not a peep of a GM asking if Gomez was available.
  23. I'm pretty sure I mentioned this already. But why not throw Aoki and Weeks to the Royals for Billy Butler? I would guess you have to throw about 5mil the Royals way. But both fill a need for KC especially Aoki. I mean KC has been linked to Brandon Phillips rumors and now Mark Ellis. Besides the Carlos Beltran 3/48mil deal rumored. Whatever money it took to get rid of Weeks to make that trade happen I would do it. 11 mil? Done. Just to have Butler manning 1b and proceed forward with Braun in RF Davis in LF and Gomez in CF. The lineup would be gut wrenching for opposing pitchers. Segura,Braun,Butler,Ramirez,Lucroy,Davis,Gomez,Gennett. I mean with the projected lineup and talent base we have for now and maybe 2015 with Options picked up the deal makes perfect sense. It's a 2year window to win now all around with Lohse,Gallardo,ARam,then Butler to be around for 2015 and depart leaving the time to blow it up with Gomez/Braun trades prior to 2016. It's just so sad to be a Brewerfan once again as here we sit and dream of some kind big move and last year it was extended Gomez and signing Lohse. No Trades...Okay Badenhop was acquired and now dealt away but nothing team defining. Not like Oakland,Texas,Det have done. Theres Zero Rumors out there of Brewers interest or Interest an a Brewer who seems available in trade. Once Again! And it's super annoying because as a fan I really haven't a clue where the team believes it is trying to direct itself to! Are we supposed Contenders? Or Pretenders? Haven't signed Hart yet but meanwhile Morneau goes off for 2/15mil! I'd have done that if I were Milwaukee believing we are Contenders. The only justifiable way to not do that move or anything is if Braun plays 1b next season. Aoki in RF and Davis in LF. And if that is your case then make it known already!
  24. Median 2b OPS among those that qualified. 13:.756 out of 20 12:.735 out of 22 11:.742 out of 20 10:.721 out of 20 09:.774 out of 25 08:.764 out of 23 07:.792 out of 33 06:.751 out of 29 So in the last 8 seasons the median qualified 2b comes to .754 on avg. Last 4 seasons .738 Will Gennett fall in that range? Well, playing in Miller Park I think so. If he were in a Pitchers ballpark he likely doesn't slg enough. Either way to look at it is that for the next 3-4seasons Milwaukee should have an avg MLB 2b. At the cost of maybe 3mil? I'll take it over paying Weeks 10+mil a year. Here's the list of top 6 qualified 2b in the last 4 years with # of times in parenthesis as well at their cost over those 4years Cano(4-48mil) Pedroia (3-27.5mil) Kinsler (1-30.4mil) Zobrist (2-15.1mil) Weeks (2-27.2mil) Phillips (1-37.36mil) Hill (1-20mil) Prado (2-15.3mil) Walker (1-4.25) Carpenter (1-984k) Utley (2-60.5mil) Kipnis (1-991k) Lowrie (1-4.45mil) Uggla (1-43mil) Johnson (1-17mil) 6Player repeated being in the top 6 as you can see:Cano,Pedroia,Zobrist,Weeks,Prado, and Utley Avg cost? 32.6mil over 4years. Oh and every single one of those 6 are being paid well above that this year. 15,11,11.5,7,12.5, and Cano with 17+ or around 13mil for a top 6 2b. And yet here's Gennett going to make 500k to likely finish in the 12th best OPS at 2b. And look at that list of names making the big money. Cano,Pedroia,Zobrist are at least worth it. But Utley? Phillips? Uggla? And Prado. There's your template type 2b. His 162game avg is: .293/.343/.432/.774 and just 13HRs 71RBI I don't know about all this Gennett concern but that is worth 11mil today And we are talking about Gennett being a .280/.330/.400/.730 2b with 9HRs who knows the RBI. I mean what more do you want? I'll take Gennett's cheap years of production to be what? 1/2 a tier below Prado? for 3mil over 33mil.
  25. Okay. That is a lower cost deal than I expected. I think it gives a ballpark range for Hart. And it is definitely lower than anticipated by me. I was thinking 10mil/1yr. 2/15. Now, my guess would be 1/7. Or 2/12. Good deal by the Rockies because Morneau has slowly been improving from his lowest point. At Coors? He may get around .300BA again. with 20HRs.
