  1. "This team as it sits now, can not compete with NY and BOS, it is just silliness to think otherwise. Financially, we simply have no shot." -DevilRaysFan.net On February 10th 2018 did you think the Brewers could compete with the Cubs or Dodgers? I'm guessing you didn't but that didn't stop them from beating the Cubs for the division & going to G7 of the NLCS with LA. Brewers imo had a better team then and Dodgers imo had a worse team then. It's like moving 6 games each in the opposite direction. You only get by LA with that team hurting at multiple positions.
  2. Agreed, why do people think that the Brewers cannot do a contract like this? They literally just did this last year with Yelich. 9 years and $215M is an average of $24M/year and locks him up until he is 37. Tatis has an AAV of $24M and is locked up until he is 36. I get its overall more $ but that's because he's younger... Its still locking them both up until their late 30s. The Brewers have shown they can offer contracts like this. Brewers contract was already on top a previous extension. This contract is while Tatis is still in the midsts of pre-Arb. Padres likely could have gone 5 seasons and paid him a total of 50million. I mention that because they'll clearly pay him more upfront, and the question becomes does that inhibit them from surrounding him with better teammates through FA during the next 5seasons? Im sure statheads will compare what kind of WAR value he provides through his next 14years and justify SD as getting more return than paying him. Just how much WAR does he accrue after the last 9 seasons and what he is paid for them? Vs including the already team controlled years.
  3. I was going to add a question to his character. 3 teams shows promise, in his prime aged years have wanted to move on from him. I had to look back to find top 30 scouting seems he had an ACL injury among a couple other nuances and it sapped his upside. Speed, CF. Sounds like he's only fit for LF with not having a strong arm. I guess you look at him as only a LF without enough power to quantify it. 4th of with LF designation, I supposethat is replaceable with somebody that can flex to other positions.
  4. Hows the average ticket price and food item prices compare? Parking? How many fans don't purchase any foods after tailgating before games?
  5. Seems odd he was dfa. His 2019 was promising. Improving monthly as a rookie. I'd take him over Fisher in an instant. How does Miami keep guys like Brinson and Harrison but dfa Ramirez? Garcia is only guaranteed this season. So R/L shouldn't matter. Guy has options and he has a place/reason to play in 2022 in Milw.
  6. Gotta thing the team on the deal is either going with Vogelbach or Shaw and the casualty basically pays for the other
  7. I guess I could see Fisher/Garcia platoon in RF... Although maybe not a strict platoon since Fisher would get the majority of the ABs. The problem is he has been terrible against right handers in the majors and has hit left handers pretty well, especially for a left handed batter. His reverse splits are based on such a small sample. As I mentioned earlier. His BABIP is higher than vs rhp
  8. Walker though isnt a #3. He's pretty much a hopeful #4. Anderson is a 4 that upside pitches as a 3. Anderson has a proven track record when he's healthy of quality seasons. Odorizzi is just too expensive and likely wants too many years.
  9. 10 million per year is right in line with what is the going rate. Kluber got $11 million. JA Happ got 8 million. Chris Archer and Jake Arrieta each got 6 million per year and have more question marks than Walker. The sticking point is likely wanting a multi-year deal, but $10 million per season for a 28 year old starting pitcher with his track record is reasonable. But Walker has reached over 150IP in a season what? Once? in his career? (Just checked it's two) He has 67.1 IP total the last 3 years. All those guys who signed for 8-11mil can give you a full season of pitching. Walker gets you to September pushing his limits. That or you give him a Start off every month. And or limit him to 4IP/65pitches per start until September.
  10. If Matt Shoemaker excites you than heading in to 2021 Freddy Peralta should be Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes excitement level combined for #5 rotation starter. Shoemaker is a horrid SP during full seasons. His resume fits perfectly with a guy who belongs overseas.
  11. Think Lorenzo Cain watches that and says he's made more gaffes in 4innings than I have my entire career?!! I think Bartolo Colon would play OF defense better than that 4Innings.
  12. In the 3 hole so he'll have 2 good OBP guys in front of him, I would rather have a 3-0 game vs a 2-0 game. I missed the question and will add this note. Yelich had Cain and Braun previously. That fit the R-L-R. With Braun gone and adding Wong a better OB with SB type batter. And nobody really deserving of #3 with Hiura's K problems, it makes sense to go L-R-L. If you don't where do you bat Wong? 3? It feels a waste of OB skills while a mild OPS skill. He'd probably fall down to 6 hitter. Milw's 3&4 hitters would look very inept as well.
  13. Apparently that’s not the only misplayed flyball he’s had hit off his head/face according to a Blue Jays report on his DFA. Yikes. That had to cause it's share of nightmares.
  14. The splits while appearing positive is based on 25 total hits. His best batting split is when a man is on 1st. A high EV who beats the ball in to ground with a 1b covering. Probably explains this along with higher babip from that side. But on flip side maybe looking at the low BABIP vs RHs as bad luck. His triples are vs LHs another aid on that OPS vs them when so few hits.
  15. Think he was dfa recently? Thinking we found our new Ben Gamel only cheaper.
  16. Statistically speaking, Odorizzi, Anderson, Walker in that order of starting pitchers. Here's the question or crunch. Does Lauer have any options left? You have gotta believe that SP atm looks like Woodruff, Burnes, Lindblom, Houser, and Lauer. With Peralta interchangeable. I just wonder how much faith the team sees in Lauer as a RP vs faith in Peralta as a SP. Then you consider what does Milw have in the pipelines? Signing any of the FA 3 I put in order of best to sign, blocks the position from any pipeline potentials. On the other end. Anderson, Walker are probably best for sign and deadline flip for cheap. While Odorizzi should cost some more. Again with what hitters are left out there, none really move the needle vs potential of what already have. So why waste money chasing 1 extra win? If that.
  17. Added Bauer and resigned Turner. 116 wins based on pct last season.Aside from SD what team in Division is fielding an 80 win team? NL central is filled with 80win teams that will have at least 1 exceed since half games played vs eachother. Wait, you were serious? Lol. Dodger win total will be about 105 if it's 162 game season. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/dodgers They have nearly an entire starting offense projected to bat over an 800+OPS. The one starter at 2nd base Taylor is backed up by top prospect Gavin Lux who has close to 780 OPS projection. The Brewers have Yelich and nobody else. Pitching. Dodgers have 3 Cy Young candidates headlining an offense that doesnt need CY Young candidates to win 50pct of the games. But they do. Their top pitching prospects who pitched for them last season all had under 3ERA in the small sample of games. These guys were rated about where Woodruff was rated when he joined Milw. So its not like Kershaw goes down and LA is pitching a 4+ mediocre starter behind him. Legit #2 or 3 steps in. This runs 7 deep now. Again paired with an offense that has a Yelich bat in it and every other bat better than Brewers #2 bat. It's a Super Team. Expect it to be Super.
  18. Time to sit and soft rebuild. Nobody is game changing after Turner. It's Melvin-lite out there. What you acquire may get you to 81wins. Hope and eish on some positive seasons by Lindblom, Garcia, Marvaez, Pina and of course Hader. Flip them all and see where you stand after 2021. Dodgers just put an All-Star team out there for every position. Other NL Central teams not named St. Louis have pivoted for this. Play for 80wins and you'll be falling behind those teams' rebuild.
  19. You think the over/under is that the Dodgers will go 122-40 next season? I'll take the under. Added Bauer and resigned Turner. 116 wins based on pct last season.Aside from SD what team in Division is fielding an 80 win team? NL central is filled with 80win teams that will have at least 1 exceed since half games played vs eachother.
  20. Can't compete over 15mil a year. Sad news. Over under on Dodgers wins has climbed to 122 imo. Brewers sit anywhere from 74-87. Think with Turner it would have been 82-92.
  21. Urias was clearly acquired to replace Arcia. Stearns made it adamant he needed to improve the SS situation after Arcia's 2019. 2020 injury, covid, and shortened season here we sit with Arcia still at the moment the penciled in SS. SS is a position where providing passable defense with a clue at hitting is more than enough to sustain a long career there. Urias appears from the minors to be a bat that could maintain a .280plus BA with a .340plus OB. If he grew any power in his bat while maintaining that BA-OB he'd become a fairly elite SS, but we've been here before with Arcia who appeared like he could bat .270 .330 and 15-20HR upside. Urias and the OB is something clearly better than Arcia possessed upon joining the team. The excitement was the defense with bat upside. Urias is sorta fitting of a high floor that hasn't happened. Still a fan of my idea on a 3-39mil contract with incentives on 500PAs each season that could add 6mil to his salary. Team needs to be creative that way to entice Turner in signing. Obviously the more PAs he sees, the more likelihood he is providing a surplus value on his contract.
  22. I read this tweet from January 2021 as he would be open to a return to Milwaukee. I read it as a No. Bad memories. Because otherwise what part in that statement is he stating he would willing to reunite with MKE?
  23. Didnt somebody post a lil comment that Shaw said no towards a return to Milw? And on the DL/IL. I thought there was a Spring Training clock towards placing the 60Day. So yeah I guess JT could be brought in soon by LA. Whoch brings me back to the thought he's a guy that feels ST shouldn't apply to him. So he can wait amd sign during last week of ST and LA does him a "favor" he avoids all of ST. Still you can't put together a better statcast hitter than Turner in this FA. He lights up the board with red all over representing top 20% virtually in every category. That's a reason why I'm not concerned on a 3year contract.
  24. Imagine hearing Turner signs with the Dodgers and the Brewers were his 2nd team until LA ponied up a few more million. The exact competitive balance luxury tax threshold definition right there. As to the Turner to Cubs after Bryant trade idea. It has merits. Statcast lists HRs he'd have had playing for the other teams. The Cubs were #1 and it was 8 more over 2019&20. Brewers just 1. Is Turner doing a Braun where he has 0 interest in playing Spring Training and just holding out for LA to sign him until the last week before Opening day? Nothing on the Brewers end should signing Turner and possibility of DH be in the thought process. 3b is a black hole of nothing positive, no point signing a 3b with DH in mind for 2-4years. There is something that may have lead to Turner's value dipping the last 2 seasons. Teams shifted the most with him at the plate in 2019. Is the NL Central a shift heavy strategy? If it's not 5WAR at 3b is staring back at Arnold/Stearns for 2021 vs whatever zips has it projected now. 3/39 now with built in incentives. 1 mil for 500+PAs. That escalates 1mil each time doing so. 2nd is 2mil. 3rd is 3mil. That would get him up to 3/45 if he does so.
  25. Keep in mind HRs doesn't count towards your BABIP. 30-35HRs is reasonable to a Hiura 2019 full season played. Wingspan is something that increase with your height. Somebody 6' 3-5" likely stretching out to catch a ball is 2-3" closer than somebody that is 6' in cleats. There are numerous "bang-bang" plays fielded by the 1b. Anywho its the JT thread. The mention on Green well, once you sign Turner he's no longer given a chance and likely waived.
