  1. This sums up pretty well what I'm trying to get across from my comment. It's more predictable because it's not outside the box strategy as in 2018 or 2019.
  2. Counsell is definitely pressing more of the wrong buttons. I don't have the biggest problems with bullpen usage in terms of who hes using. Just the occasional, let the starter pitch in the inning. He seems to give up on them when having a low pitch output game andoverworks the bullpen just because 6innings is all he seems to think matter and any pitching in the 7th needs to come from bullpen. My issue with Counsell is his constant lineup cards where a guy who hit a HR or 2 or multiple hits too often sits the next day just because analytic side says tomorrows lineup should set up this way. Not rewarding good days from bad stretches. Batting Hiura 2nd vs Yelich, Narvaez not batting 3rd or 4th. Cain yesterday not batting 2nd over Hiura? Hits 2 HRs, was your leadoff bat, bat 2nd highest on team and you have him what? 6th and bat someone with a near 000 average and ks over 50pct thus far? RP are required to pitch to 3batters now, so some of the L-R on and on is just too much overthinking matchups and its literally gotten to a point where its too predictable. Lime you can see the lineup card and basically say Counsell will PH this guy first or double move the pitcher with this player for this player. Needs to install more gut feeling. Leaving Yardley to pitch after clearly struggling. See with Hader no longer his 1plus inning go to, he sticks with Yardley because he's got the moves planned already and hes not going to adjust it seems until it has gone to hell and forced to. Why wasn't Lindblom up warming up during both Yardley and Rasmussen innings? Probably because Lindblom will pitch in the 4th-7th innings next game depending how well Houser or Anderson do. Decision already made.
  3. After 2 blown saves by the RPs coming in after Woodruff and Burnes and the amount of posts clamoring the bullpen is trash after Williams and Hader, think these two are more needed than Arcia if either of them better the middle of the bullpen.
  4. To be fair, gameday shows pitch 1 a ball that ump called a strike. Gotta be 4th already called strike on outside pitches in the 3 innings Ive followed along. Bradley's first strike should have been ball 2 another outside zone called strike. Yep gone back 5 bad out of zone called strikes. All of them were strike 1 given to Waino.
  5. If that's not blatantly leaning into a ball, I'm not sure what is. Elbow yes. But not body lean. Just flared his elbow out towards incoming ball. Point in statement is Contreras literally leaned body with elbow to have ball hit him.
  6. On the Conforto Hbp, his elbow certainly was flared out but he didnt lean in to the ball like Contreras has blatantly done. Need to suspend and fine a batter doing that 1 game pay included to the opposing pitcher's charity of choice.
  7. 56pitches first 6 outs. 19 the 2nd 6outs. Really hoping we get to Cards bullpen in the 5th and not let Waino get through 5 after the start.
  8. Paying attention to Savant. I have noticed Garcia has a good amount of 100+ EV. 1 today on the fielding error that goes as a 0fer1. .420 XBA. And a 97.5 EV lineout with a .550 XBA. So he's had some unlucky results thus far vs expected. Something to watch for if Yeli is going start OPS-ing 1.000 again. Put Cain #2 once again after today's heroics. Offense fix today?
  9. 4th time per game though that 2.06? Williams/Harder 2IP 42 pitches. Woodruffs highest pitch inning was the 7th at 19. Laboring less than your 2 closers late did.
  10. The basic move on a pitcher during a good start was to leave him in until the batter he faced next could mean a L vs a Win or no decision. Counsell didnt face an at the plate decision to remove Woodruff. Bad decision as stated before Counsell didn't stick with Woody until there was a base runner or given up the HR himself. Its terrible because Counsell didn't allow Woodruff the ability to win the game himself. He'd be doing Woody a favor after a baserunner or HR given up to not get a losing decision.
  11. On a Fastball ahead in the count. Immediately strikes out the next 2 with changeups. It was a bad pitch on a bad pitch call to a hitter that hits FBs well. Woodruff should have still been pitching so also Counsells fault
  12. Guess just trying to take advantage of a lead late to actually use you late inning RPs when they're supposed to pitch? I'd have given Woody the 8th til he allowed a baserunner and brought Williams in then. But Counsell did the wrong change.
  13. I feel like yes a pitcher has been hurt on a time called. Or at least left the game because something didnt feel right. CG watch took a hard unlikely with 19 pitch 7th. 8 though and a Hader save?
  14. Gameday 2 fouls and swings and misses 80mph changeup. Hendriks FB is 86mph. Hiura cant even put in to play 80-86 right down main street. Believe or not there was a time as a prospect Hiura had a few votes of confidence that he was going to be a better hitter than Vlad Jr. Since rookie year whatever any one did to his swing it has made Ben Sheets look capable to hit better than Keston this season.
  15. How does Robertson let a 3-1 pitch down the center of the plate go by for a called strike? 2 men on base up 4 runs count in your favor. You get a meatball dream scenario pitch and dont unload on it? Follows up with an inner part of plate groundout to 3b. Next
  16. While I get the lineup platoon matchup, I just dont get Vogelbach at 2 should have batted Yelich 2 and Vogelbach 3. Wong and Yelich are everyday Starters who youre not removing from the game anyway. Late game bat a righty vs a lefty replacement when its 3batters minimum. 1 PA. Just give it up. Youre not bringing special RH batters to pinch hit for them anyway. Just watch Vogelbach keeps Yelich from an extra base this game.
  17. I agree completely on Hiura. I actually was quite concerned about the jump in K rate in 2019. His average was still good but inflated by babip rates around .400. For Yelich I didn't think the knee would be a thing, maybe it is. I really thought with his solid spring and 6BB/6SO ratio he had, it looked to me that he was back to his old self but it certainly hasn't looked that way in the games that count. On Hiura and the BABIP. High EV and barrels explain a higher BABIP for certain hitters that have a nicer launch angle and arent pound the ball in ground and beat a throw to first. Problem now is when will Hiura barrel a ball next? WTP said- Covid 2020 season was tough for a number of reasons but through the first 4 games of 2021, this team's ABs resemble 2020 too much. Uppercut swings and launch angle seem to be a Haines special and it appears to have changed the approaches of proven, successful MLB players. If it were just Yelich or Garcia or Hiura or Narvaez, certainly could understand keeping Haines. But it's not. It's all of them and that tells me it is an approach to hitting that is being coached. I know I made a comment last season after a Haines 1st season covid relax type response. And does 1 really think Haines has that much effect on a batter. Haines should have some responsibility on scouting the next day's starter to pass a strategy for the next game. At least offer some kind of insight towards tendencies. Aggressive 1st pitch swing with a man on base. Or patience as with a runner on 2nd they nibble outside willing to give up a walk for the dp opportunity. I mean you see pitching coaches walk to the mound to discuss a pinch hitter coming to bat. Yet the approaches seem to consistently be sit often on 1st pitch strikes. Like Haines' strategy is to run a SP's pitch count up only it backfires because swinging after 1st strikes comes at pitches out of the zone too often. And not enough of the Brewers hitters are battle the pitcher down in the count with 2strikes to foul off good or close strike pitches to start down in the count. There needs to be a voice with any better approach than what Haines is preaching. Go out there and find some kind of successful BA player of the past to instill something that made them successful to these guys. Coles and Haines aren't the type.
