  1. Okay I can see some upside to Green. Philly let him go it appears because they have Bohm. SF picked Green up and I wonder why a poor team wouldn't use Green, but they are playing Evan Longoria at 3rd. Still not sure why they wouldnt employ Green as a bench backup. Daniel Robertson was SF's utility and hes now in Milw. So who does SF have now or pipeline to replace both? Checking they signed LaStella. Maybe they luck in to passable 1-2WAR 3b. Its hard to think he'd carry a similar BA/OB as his recent minor seasons with that 33% K pct. We shall see ST around the corner.
  2. Tampa's front 7 is better than the Giants SB fronts no? White makes that statement true. I don't remember the Giants having such a threat at LB with those teams.
  3. Brady is why TB is winning. But yeah. Best 7 in football with pressure and speed around middle field. Hate to see Brady on another team effort win in SB.
  4. Yes/no. I look at it as a positive to players in FA when teams would have more money to spend. From the smaller market view, you may see more give out higher extensions because the less risk they take spending 20ish mil 1 extra year. The rule Id make is it only applies to injured players unable to complete that season into the following season. That a team files for payroll "immunity" and the % amount of immunity would also essentially rule that player out of MLB the following season until the pct filed past. 50pct= 81 games. 20mil contract gives the team 10mil to use for that offseason as a recoup loss. I suggest the bottom 10markets would actually get their 10mil from a competitive balance fund. The others would be deciding to spend 10mil more that season. Which some mid markets may not be able to do already being maxed for their threshold. On a best case small market scenario. Lets take Woodruff. Who sadly goes down to elbow surgery during arb year 3 in early August. Guessing he would be on pace for 14mil year 4 of Arb. Milw would file for 70pct immunity saving nearly 10mil. They could turn Woodruffs remaining 4mil contract in to a trade availability that off-season. With the acquiring team only responsible for 4mil and payroll hit of only 4mil. That would be a big return to see in trade. Instead of being stuck with the 14mil pricetag to hope returns to a team still in contention come mid-August and he performs well down that stretch. But you know without him starting for 70pct of season the team loses an additional 7games and he likely returns with Milw facing an uphill battle to make the post-season. Sure you could trade him near Aug 1st deadline. Its just current way he's cost the team 8? Mil. Money the team couldn't use to upgrade. And trying to trade him in the offseason hes tied to 14mil for maybe 8-9games to start upon return. That is shedding dead contract. My suggestion is saving 10mil, making a trade for a 4mil cost for that 8-9 stretch. Now Milw has new prospects and 14mil they could spend that offseason. Or do a mini rebuild.
  5. Still less insane than giving him a 6/200 or something like that which has been commonplace in his position for the last 20 years or so-- where all those possibilities still exist except there are no negotiations for new circumstances (injury). Youre looking at 35-36mil AAV contracts. Bauer's deal is 40/45mil with 27mil 3rd year but he can opt out unlike the other contracts. There should be some kind of protection for a team's payroll if he comes down with an Elbow injury. Like teams should have the ability to have contracts not count for total payroll spending on a given season with Pitchers. So if Bauer had TJ the Dodgers should be able to set aside 40 or 45mil away from payroll expense. Add Kershaw and its another 36mil. Maybe not full amount but say tiers of 40, 50, 60, and 70pct. (What a team feels will miss for the next season) So they could spend whatever money that they save that offseason on a FA. If it's a team in bottom 10 markets in baseball maybe their amount is comped in revenue sharing on what they ask.
  6. I know Ramirez has 3yrs control. The note on 2 year window is based on who we dont have at positions after 2 seasons. Cain, Garcia, Narvaez, potentially Wong, probably Hader, Arcia, Pina, Lindblom. You add in trade proposal Urias, Turang, Houser, Mitchell. Or to put it this way 1b-Hiura-1st arb-3mil? 2b-Wong if option picked up-8mil SS-? 3b Ramirez-13mil C-Nottingham? LF-Yelich-26mil CF-nobody/Taylor RF-Nobody maybe Lutz? Bench-? SP-Woodruff-3rd year arb 12-14mil? SP-Burnes-2nd yr arb 7-8mil? Lauer-2nd year arb 2-3mil? Peralta-3.73mil Williams 1st arb-3-4mil? That's the list of what you can count on today for 2023. Money wise that adds up to around 82mil
  7. That kind of attitude you'd just go spend on Turner. When Cainçs money comes off the books, the team is going to pinched on some Arbitration contracts. Mitchell being added for CF saves money to address that vs needing to pony up with a FA contract. I'd rather keep what little positive minors we have and pay 3/33.4mil to Turner than give them up and pay Ramirez that amount. Unless your staring down the barrel of a 2year window and plan to tear it down for a rebuild. 2years I'm staring at no CF, RF, C, at least one of SS/3b. 3rd or 4th yrs of Arbitration to Hader and Woodruff. No Lindblom. The previous proposal sent Urias and Houser. Turang as well. Youre staring at a lot of holes with no promising 2+WAR prospects coming to fill out needs at minimum. If you do they're likely -.5 to .5WAR. Or dumpster diving even more contracts. Keep in mind the WS champs added 2020 Cy Young Winner Bauer to an already Stellar pitching rotation. Doesn't seem smart to put your team in a 2year window when the team spending the most amount of money loaded with talent young and old is in top form. That's sorta a hill to die on with being fired when you turn in to Melvin spending to be 80win team at best. And yr 4 you tear it down and rebuild.
  8. A lot can be said on GBs ToP that helped the defense finish 9th and gut feel like it wasn't 9th best. Maybe they can come up with a yards and Points allowed per minute stat that could better place where GB's defense sat. I see a site called teamrankings. It's not by minute but by play- GB was 16th for points by. and 12th in yards by. Lead the league in ToP by 1:02 on 2nd place. Just over 5mins on last.
  9. I think where Atlanta Braves prospects are overrated is on the pitching and catcher side. Feels to me like they've had 3-5 of those types every year in MLB's top 100 since 2012 or 13. I'd really be leery that Mitchell would be traded away considering he's gotta be your CF after Cain leaves on paper. Maybe after 2021 season after he's played some games and maybe some other Brewer CF prospect rises to Starter level future.
  10. Line up is usually a discussion in the Major League thread. Probably on page 2 or 3. About that lineup Counsell wouldnt play Wong and Yelich 1_2. 2 of what likely is 3 everyday Lefty Battingstarters. I'm fairly certain the lineup will look like Wong, Cain, and Yelich. 123. After that I don't know. Play the numbers on which Righty matches best to that game's opposing Starter. Hiura one would think, but he's gotta show better PAs. 33% k rate seems more fitting for a 5. Higher BA is needed. (This is why Turner has to be signed!) Garcia will get his chances at 4 because of this. Narvaez should fit the l/r lineup at 5 but last year all offense lineup thoughts heading to 2021 just suck. So much bad. The FA top signings of Cain and Wong make it easy to get 1-2 on batting order. Yeli at 3. I can imagine days Wong isnt playing, Cain being 1 Yeli 2. Cain out, not sure who bats 2. Love it if Urias actually earned his prospect rank as a BA/OB to take that designation. Or again that Turner guy.
  11. Its just insane to me a guy will take the mound at about 1.33 mil a start and its guaranteed even if he has elbow surgery during any of the 2 seasons. Bauer could go blow out his elbow preparing for the season and take TJ surgery and a nice 400day vacation. Then pitch maybe in August or Sept in 2022 showing any kind of promise. Opt out and plead his value is still 33+mil a season next contract.
  12. Considering the shortened year he had over 2WAR value this contract looks better than paying a pitcher 85mil over 2 seasons where a TJ ends those two both.
  13. Who would pay Bauer more than 45mil in a season?
  14. I keep seeing this. I guess I need someone to explain this to me like I was 5 years old why a bad defender that plays 2nd base becomes the lynchpin of the coming apocalypse if he shifts to playing 1st base? Is it simply that he'll be involved in more plays? Aren't most of those plays going to be routine "put foot on bag, catch easy throw for out"? Its not just the fielding a BBIP but how's he going to do on pickoff attempts? Ball thrown a little off and suddenly runner on 3rd or scores. Certainly with Milwaukee pitching he's got at least 1 less defensive play on a BBIP since Brewers pitchers K rate is so high. At same time they do walk a high amount.
  15. Not Hiura related but this tweet was a few below and I thought it was fun to look at and dream on. Imagine the Bucks in Brewer pinstripes?! Would you take any of the Bucks to Brewers jersey designs? The blue?
  16. Mentioned in the Wong thread, pretty sure Turner was thought of only signing to teams he saw as competitive, that may have lead to Wong's signing to entice Turner enough to come to Milwaukee. Turner gives Milw a set lineup when healthy. Wong Cain Yelich Turner Hiura Narvaez Garcia Arcia/Urias.
  17. I thought about the twins after getting Wong as a landing spot for Hiura. But the Twins signed Andrelton Simmons, and will move former SS Jorge Polanco to 2b. Also signed Nelson Cruz so he'll become DH. Hiura wouldn't be needed. Arraez was suggested as the utility. So there is maybe a potential to find a Hader Trade with Min to acquire him. With Arreaz though you're looking at a BABIP, low SO hitter with nearly no HR power. Suggesting playing 3b. He may also be a LH platoon bat. Sample size too small. Stats show him well vs LH starters but otherwise closer to 200pt spread. Statcast gave him a similar hitter profile to the Mets Mcneil so there is that. But he's a slow runner and not a base stealer. Odd for somebody who is a BABIP hitter. So good is atop the order BA-OB but bad is not a speedster or power threat. He'll be standing on 1b ripe for a DP victim with a DP bat profile right before then. #6 hitter seems more appropriate. Kirriloff is the 1b we dream of having but I know a brewerfan with MN locality has said he's untouchable and taking reps for OF in Minnesota. Cruz pushes him back 1yr from Sano batting DH and leaving 1b his job. If we're sticking with Hiura, Rooker becomes redundant for 1b. Works beautifully if DH happens 2022. Can you pull off a Hader for Larnoch and Arreaz deal? Are you okay after this season with Urias and Arreaz. Ss/3b combining for less than 12HRs a season? Do you get a 3rd player back in trade? I'm certain you'd like a Pitching lotto or RP future when trading Hader. A Brewer spin rate guy would be Dakota Chalmers. I liked him that year I rated my draft but he seems to have gotten off to a shaky and TJ beginning who by now has seen his window pass as SP. Shrugs
  18. The mention on his height is based on that he hasn't shown to be the best with the glove or defensively. https://ucirvinesports.com/sports/baseball/roster/keston-hiura/156 His College listed him at 5'11" Somewhere between being drafted and professional for Brewers he became listed at 6' Maybe he's 5'11 1/2"? And they rounded up, but he a small stature 6'. Pretty sure when talking about a 1b or 3b acquisition mention thought or hope was it to be a left handed bat? Wong qualifies as a LH bat added to the roster.
  19. That is making the rather big assumption, though, that Turner is agreeable to a deal with the Brewers, and his agent isn't simply using the Brewers' supposed interest in an effort to squeeze an extra couple million out of the Dodgers. For how great the Dodgers lineup is, they still have a question mark at 3B, and if they don't make a move on a guy like Ramirez or Kris Bryant, re-upping with Turner makes a lot of sense for them. Let's just toss adding Wong improves Milw and maybe was something that was needed to entice Turner to Milw seeing the team more competitive. Not a fan of trading assets for J Ram when signing Turner for equal amount of money solves the problem.
  20. With Wong in the fold, let's get wild and revisit what I posted above. Would this deal get any traction with the A's: Keston Hiura, Josh Hader, Garrett Mitchell and Brice Turang for Matt Chapman and Matt Olson Without getting into analysis of the fairness of the deal for either side or long term implications of depleting the farm, a lineup of Cain-Yelich-Chapman-Olson-Garcia-Narvaez-Wong-Urias sure looks sexy on paper. No because why acquire Hader and lose two better everyday players for a questionable-defenseless Hiura?
  21. Hes a short 6' Ive seen other listings he is 5' 11" you can't tell me he doesn't look smaller than listed. This may not bring a trade but use a Hiura option. If he doesnt look the best during ST Hiura should take a return to the minors. Bat in ST notwithstanding. Maybe this solves the lineup to have Wong leadoff-L, Cain -R, and Yelich-L 3rd
  22. Seeing that indeed the plan is Hiura at 1b. Improved middle inf defense. Alright. Obviously Hiura does bring the HR power to settle as a 1b. Its just defense concerns to go with his short stature.
  23. Believe that was if mlbpa agreed to the offer. I heard on radio pitchers catchers report in 13? Days i believe now again. Why the 4th outfielder when we still have no legit 1B? Because I'm hopeful we'll add a legit 1B, plenty out there yet.... But I guess we need to be even more patience according to Stearns. C.J. Cron Mitch Moreland Jake Lamb Edwin Encarnacion Todd Frazier Jedd Gyorko (Would rather him at 3B tho) Something to maybe check and consider. Are there any corner inf or utility players who have an agreed arb contract that can be waived much like Vogelbach's or even Arcia's? Cut payroll types. Guess you could look at a list of players who surprisingly were tendered when thought of being non-tendered? So when Stearn says he's looking to create a roster by opening day and not beginning of ST that could be what he means. Maybe theres some knowledge behind doors teams are cash strapped and casualties are forthcoming to such players. Or since he may plan it on Arcia or Vogelbach, Robertson himself he thinks others will.
  24. What the Brewers and Hader settled in arb this season, was not the kind of increase you would typically assume Hader at Super 2 would have received. I'd have expected in year 2 he'd have an 8.5-9.25mil price tag. What he argued for last season is where he is at now for this season. So when it comes his cost, I think he's returned near a normal 3 years of arbitration. Taking in to account a guy like Andrew Miller got a QO and was signed shows Hader should have at least a rd 1a type of prospect in his return value or not. That is something one has to believe the trade simulators never take in to account. Via last season that's around 2.5mil in draft capitol or something to add in to the trade simulator. And that doesn't take in to account what the next CBA worked out makes for that loss to FA. Do we return to what it was previously and take over another team's 1st rd draft pick? Say that is what the cost is from one of the big market clubs while say for Pirates it would cost their 2nd pick(balance or 2nd rd depending if that exists) TBH, being a homer, the move STL just made to take on Arrenado's contract should exclude them from any kind of competitive balance chances the entirety of his contract. I'd say that any FA contract signed by a competitive balance receiving team that would have any seasons where at the time of signing is a higher amount than what the current QO amount is removes them from competitive balance receiving. draft or international signings for the seasons as stated above that amount. Signing a player that is already on your team to such an amount wouldn't cost the competitive balance since it's a player already on your team. To be honest, I don't know how many other teams this would even affect beside the Cardinals as balance is not what MLB is giving them, it's an advantage. Back on Hader I think he moved from 8.5/11.75/15.5 in arb to now the 6.675/9.5/12.4 range. So that saves nearly 7.5mil from what a team last offseason was looking to take on. And at the highest 12.4 is cheap when taking the next Aroldis Chapman or FA value.
  25. If you sign Walker what do you do when he approaches 140IP? It'll be 3years since he even threw more than 100IP. I see 167IP as his career high. Last season was perfect for him since he wouldn't need to pitch a 30game plus full year(29 is his highest) I'd fear he'd become a Marcum who if he made it to the post season would be throwing meatballs. I would be okay with him if you started him in the bullpen for 2months before inserting him at starter in 2021. Otherwise I think he'll flame out down the stretch.
