  1. I'm going to suggest something a little bit of a compromise in regards to the DH. The starting pitchers still bat for themselves, but when they are taken out of the game, the player that bats for them stays in for the remainder of the game as the "DH". I also would look at expansion, but only by two teams to make it 32, and then set up playoffs similar to the NFL. You could play more playoff games in a shorter time period by playing all games at the higher seeded teams stadium. No home playoff games for the bottom seeds, but no more travel days. Don't like it, win enough to not be the bottom seed. And lastly, of course, revenue sharing.
  2. I work with a guy who is a Cardinals and Bears fan. I always give him the business during football season, and he still laughs about the Brewers signings of both Suppan and Looper, and how their careers as Brewers went. Somehow, I think it's going to be a long summer working with him. Lohse has my vote.
  3. The Brewers might need to only pitch Lohse on the road like they did with Marcum a couple years ago, not only because of how he pitches in Miller Park, but I'm thinking a lot of fans are not going to give him any kind of a leash. One bad outing might be all it takes to lit the powderkeg.
  4. I'd be lying if I said I'm excited for the Badgers in the near future, either. I think Dekker will be great, but I have not been impressed with Traevon Jackson or George Marshall at all. Add to that the prospect of Kominsky playing 30+ minutes a game, and their offense might be just as bad next season.
  5. If Scott Boras isn't happy with the new CBA, then Rob Manfred deserves a pat on the back. He helped negotiate a good deal for MLB. Boras represents individual players, not THE players. If he truly wants what's best for all players, he would be a union negotiator. He's not, because he only wants what's best for HIS players, not everyone else's.
  6. They are going after minor leaguers who are not in the union. I guess I meant potential union members in the future. Nobody that has true aspirations of joining the union when they make it to the bigs would even consider helping the league officials out.
  7. For the first time in my life, I'm glad that the players union is as strong as it is. Asking members of a union to snitch on their "brothers"? C'mon, Bud, you know better.
  8. I hope MLB doesn't give up too much as far as arby terms go. I would much rather see an increase in the slot recommendations for the newly drafted players. I think you could do that in a way that still would end up costing teams less than signing players as free agents, but would still increase the average signing bonus of the majority of the players that are getting drafted. That way the teams can still alot a certain percentage of their overall operating costs to scouting, without having to alter the costs of all of their other departments.
  9. Excellent photos and reporting. It's always nice to be able to put a name to a face when reading about minor leaguers, and now we can with more of them. It's much appreciated!
  10. Braun would be a wreck at 1B. It wasn't just his throwing at 3B that was horrible. He has no fielding instincts. His saving grace in LF is his athleticism and the low bar set for LF. Thank you. Finally, someone else remembers how epically bad he was on the infield. Braun will never be outstanding defensively anywhere you put him, but he has become adequate in leftfield, something Kh. Davis is not. Braun is such a good athlete, and has worked very hard on his defense in the outfield, so I don't understand people wanting him to switch positions. I'm all for giving Davis a shot. As much as I hate Larussa, he understood that you can bring young OF's up and get them at-bats in lots of different ways and situations, and the Brewers should consider trying this method with Davis.
  11. They sure missed Wright's bat in the lineup tonight.
  12. Big RBI by Brauny keeps their chances alive.
  13. There are multiple players left off that could crack the list next year: the aforementioned Jungmann, Bradley and Nelson, plus Hellweg as pitchers, and if Tyrone Taylor comes anywhere close to last year offensively and can prove he's healthy enough to get back in CF, he will almost certainly make it , too. Take notice everyone, the Brewers MiLB is on its way!
  14. I also don't mind the celebrating in this Tournament. All sports fans, to some degree, understand that the players on their team ultimately are trying to win for themselves and their teammates, not for the fans. But this is different. This is pride in your country, especially for these tiny nations in the Caribbean where baseball is life. This means everything to the players, and all of their fellow countrymen. Some passion is exciting in this venue, not so much in MLB.
  15. Yup. Seems like we have the same points made in the past 6 years everytime someone is signed to a long term contract. Every announced contract deteriorates into a discussion about trading all our best players in their prime so we can get some really good prospects. So that they can become good players that we then trade for more prospects, and around and around we go. I have no problem trading a veteran that is about to leave via FA like we did last year with Greinke, but if we had traded Hart and Ramirez also just because we were supposedly out of it (even though it turned out that we weren't), you turn away some fans for the rest of that year plus maybe the next year. You have to continue to give your fans faith until there is no denying it, like the Astros realized 2-3 years ago.
  16. Without a doubt. It makes you wonder if David Wright had played if the outcome is different. He has carried this team all tournament long, and the US let a huge opportunity pass in the 1st.
  17. I agree. I haven't watched a WBC game yet that has been over in less than 3 and a half hours. I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much, because every game I've watched has been great.
  18. It surprises me how many Brewer fans want to trade MLB talent the second a MiLB talent comes along that looks like they might be a decent, if unspectacular, player. As I said earlier, I'm very impressed with Schafer so far, and I think he will be a very nice contributor this year and beyond. But the goal every year is to win as many games as possible, and you increase your odds greatly if you have known-quantities versus potential. Lots of people get upset when the big market teams sign all of their veterans as they near FA, but when we do it those same people are upset that we did re-sign them. I truly believe that the Crew will win more games with Gomez in the everyday lineup over the next four years than they will if Schafer is, and as long as the contract isn't out of line (which I believe it is not), then we are better off going forward.
  19. I agree with using Davis as trade bait. He does have talent that should rank him higher than 20th, just not with the Brewers. I would love to see what an offensively challanged team like the Rays would offer for him. Everyone knows they have pitching coming out of their ears, and he could possibly help them this year. An OF of Davis, Desmond Jennings, and Wil Myers would be very exciting for Rays fans for years to come. Regardless, his future would be brighter on a team like that than he currently is for us, and if he could bring back a young stud pitcher to put in the low minors, that could help fill a void we have.
  20. We have quantity of OF's in our upper minors, but a lot of experts aren't convinced that they are necessarily quality, at least as far as being everyday players. I personally really like what I've seen so far from Logan Schafer, plus I still think Gindl and Kris Davis could contribute to a winning MLB team, but I don't think anyone can say for certain that they any of them will become .750-.800 OPS players over a full season. I think more fans would feel confident that Gomez can produce day in and day out, which at the amount we signed him for, makes it a good deal.
  21. Very small sample size, but when it counts the most. Cain career Post-Season: 4-2 2.10 ERA 1.052 WHIP Greinke career Post-Season: 1-1 6.48 ERA 1.620 WHIP For two guys very close during the regular season, Cain steps up big time compared to Greinke in the Post-Season. I just wish we had given Greinke as many opportunities as Cain has had to try and even those numbers out a little.
  22. Somewhere Scott Boras is smiling.
  23. I'm not sure if it's because of the time zone difference, or just the East Coast bias, but I agree. It might be that Cactus League games last until roughly 6 P.M. EST which would overlap with their regular schedule of broadcasting.
  24. Now that we have built up some organizational pitching depth at the higher levels of the minors, and last year got some promising young hitters in the lower levels, it's time for them to take some chances on high risk/high reward type players. I know that a lot of people say that this isn't the strongest draft overall, but at #'s 17, 53, 72, and 90 we should still be able to get some very talented players. I hope the majority, if not all, of those picks are HS or JC guys with high upside, vs. college JR's that are a safer bet to make it, but will ultimately not be "game-changers". If they go the safe route, there will be lots of fans calling for Seid's head to roll.
  25. I'm not sure this is the coolest compared to winning divisions or wildcard spots, but it was special to me. The first year I went to AZ (2004) to visit my parents was in late February, but a couple of days before the first ST game. I just wanted to go to Maryvale Stadium just to see it and find out if anything was going on. Sure enough, the gates were wide open and people could come and go as they please, so we walk in. It turns out the Crew were having an Intersquad game, so we sat down right by the home dugout and watched the entire game with only about 20 or so others milling about. When the game ended, a handful of people came over by the fence trying to get some autographs, so I decided to join to see if I would have any luck. There were only 3 young players that came over to sign: Corey Hart, Rickie Weeks, and Prince Fielder. They all signed for everyone and even took a few minutes to chat. Needless to say, it was something I will always treasure.
