  1. Hunter Morris up to .848 OPS at AAA. I can never figure out whether to call him the 25 year old, ex AA MVP, top prospect... or the 26 year old .700ish OPS AAA journeyman. So, we simply have an Ike vs Hunter faceoff for 2014. I mean at the end of the 2014 you will say 'sure glad Morris will be the 2015 first baseman'... or 'why oh why did we not pick up Ike' Who knows the outcome?
  2. Fiers = Milwaukee Brewers = too much pitching depth; who woulda thunk it. Looking at the 40 man, there is going to be quite a dog fight for the last couple of bullpen spots in 2015. Guys with zero options are Fiers, Figaro, Hellweg, Ariel Pena
  3. Morales is a DH.
  4. I am not up for a Frankie heart stopping save. But better than a Frankie heart wrenching blow. But I have faith.
  5. I am not up for a Frankie heat stopping save. But better than a Frankie heart wrenching blow. But I have faith.
  6. "Hey look, a base running blunder... How freaking odd." A prophet you are, turbo!
  7. "Hunter morris could come up and hit .220 with 25 homers right now" I sure hope that will be the case. I think our management considers Halton a 1st baseman / 5th outfielder. So, if the Morris love is justified, in 2015 we do save 5 mill for the same performance as 2014. Mind you, Morris is only .724 OPS right now in AAA. Halton .622. And these guys are 26 and 27 years old. I don't see a lot of upside.
  8. It is hard to guess what Ike will do going forward. I think it was Fangraphs' article that measured future performance of players who batter like Ike did his 1st and 2nd years. And examining the ENTIRE history of baseball, Ike's bad 12 months were so bad - following his start - any person guessing at the future would ignore them. He may not provide .850+ OPS at first base for the next few years. But it is more likely to be that, than a sub .800.
  9. I think the entire mojo of the team is they are a little too big for their boots. Scooter may be the best player for the next four years, because he knows he is not good... he can only work, work, work. Work, work, work on average tools can be good. The out at home is another example (this one on the coaches)... instead of playing baseball pitch by pitch they need to force everything. Honestly, baseball is so, so, so not complicated.
  10. For Segura, his ship has sailed to sign a multi million dollar deal. To be honest, that is good news for the Brewers. It appears Segura will be a good D, decent batting, fast shortstop for the next few years - but nothing special. That is exactly the sort of guy you do not extend and you take year by year until the six years are up. This is what frustrates me about the Brewers. Segura they 'hope and wait' he will be a number two hitter. When he has shown he is the Gennett of shortstop. That is, a valuable, valuable piece at league minimum. Let us judge him for what he does... not what we hope he will do.
  11. The problem with Brewer management is they rarely trade a player when the playing is doing well and/or worth something to other teams. But the Brewers are in a position where they can trade a starter who is pitching well. But that is not Doug's MO.
  12. Wow. Did I say the Brewers are playing really, really, really, really, really bad. This is silly.
  13. Listening to the game. The Brewers sound REALLY, REALLY, REALLY bad and unbaseball like. It is a bit like yesterday. It seems to be some watershed has taken place. Sometime in the last three days the Brewers, en masse, have really changed their approach - or maybe intensified their approaches. There was an article the other day with RRR saying was happy with the aggressive approach. Lord knows how that translates into taking fastballs down the can and flailing at ball bouncing in the dirt. I sure hope the team decides to go back to playing baseball. Not this 'cool, bravado' style.
  14. Good teams (management) are always looking to upgrade here and there where possible. After 16 games, it appears Segura continues the same form as his prior 80 games. So, since over the last 96 games Segura is a .600 ops guy, he likely should be batting 8th. Simple. Not a witch hunt, just a baseball decision. Just like the Pirates picked up Ike Davis, and they obviously did not care about the feelings of Ishakawa... the Pirates decided they would do a 'little thing' to maybe help. Not the Brewers 'sit on hands' approach. Weeks should be played a bit more or released. The last couple of MLB articles re the Brewers have 'Weeks waiting to catch fire' and a few days later 'Segura waiting to catch fire'. That is the normal (not always) approach of the Brewers. Sit and wait. There should be some adjustments always being thought out and made.
  15. As another poster noted, this is quite a power packed observation: "find your own young pitching the old fashioned way through scouting and development of your own guys." Where is the blue font? The Brewers say that Wang is the equivalent of mid, round 1, draft pick. I agree with the posters who say the guy can indeed pitch 25 games, 2 innings a game, in those lopsided games - and get 50 innings - and not hurt 2014, but maybe help 2017 or so.
  16. How disappointing. Our biggest position of need can be maybe solved giving up a minor leaguer. No one knows what Davis will do. But, as I pointed out an analysis stated, Ike's early year(s) were so good, it is likely impossible for him to continue he recent bad years. And I have read his defensive is good. And he is left handed. Our management has dropped the ball in trying to improve the team. Just like we will see Segura batting second with his .600 OPS over the last FOUR months. Our team is often run like an old boys club. Once you are in, it is hard to get out. And it is hard to get in. Being a Brewer fan, I have to hope Davis will not go on to terror the Crew for the next five years. But in analysing the pros and cons... having Davis playing first for the Pirates instead of the Crew bumps the Pirates UP a little, and therefore, the Crew down a little. And our management is supposed to be looking at what can be done, bit by bit, to improve us. They failed the MONEY PAYING fans in this situation.
  17. To become full Brewers property. Any time he spends on the DL will just be tacked onto the number of days he needs to spend in Milwaukee. That is not true
  18. It seems to me we just accept our good luck. That is, he is pitching well. We pick up the option for next year. He pitches well again. Then we offer a qualifying offer. It means you have him for two years at good cost - with little risk. And you pick up a draft pick if he is lights out next year. Win-win.
  19. Even with the many, many wins is there any fixing that needs to be done to the lineup. Should Segura be pushed down to the bottom of the lineup? Should Reynolds be pushed above Davis? Given Lucroy's continued good at bats after good at bats is he the best number two hitter we have? Would RRR be so game to put Gennett to bat second? In any case, how nice to see a lineup from top to down that can produce offense.
  20. At what stage does Segura go down to the 8 spot and Gennett up to the two spot.
  21. Since Estrada will not pitch all year - having half the year off for the DL - there is no problem.
  22. A starter forced into the bullpen and pitching scoreless pairs of innings late in close games is unbelievably valuable. Already Thornburg has two wins against his name. Maybe he can be a twenty game winner in 2014.
  23. There have been at least two spots to use him. But, I do understand the reasoning of why he was not used. It seems Henderson is 'back' now taking the couple of spots Wang could have had. Honestly, Wang should be at least trotted out for the ONE LEFTIE BATTER once in a while. If the Brewers continue to win 80% of games by 2 to 4 runs, then Wang will never be seen, unless RRR does one batter thing. I almost find myself hoping for a melt down by a starter of ours to see Wang pitch. Only almost. Given Henderson need not be worked into form anymore, Wang will get a go. The Crew will lose a game a week on average. So Wang can pitch once a week for 3 or 4 innings, I guess.
  24. What I am noticing (I watch 'gameday' the most) is the great strike zone judgement. Out of the zone is not drawing swings. In the zone is not drawing many non-swings. I always used to be unhappy at the take the fastball down the can for a called strike. This mob is aggressive. But they are showing strike zone judgement. That is very, very promising.
