  1. Re fiers: according to sabre theory: line drive% and babip is just a fluke random event and will tend to the mean for all pitchers; therefore any sabre guy would not give up fiers for ike
  2. Has anyone ever had the guts to say to Doug: 'based on results, good to very good players onto the MLB roster, from your drafting... your drafting and development... to be frank... is terrible; what are you doing and what will you do to address this'
  3. Maybe this is too off topic, but I want to comment on what Doug will do this off season. Doug EVERY year plugs holes he saw the year before. This off season will be the year we sign first baseman after first baseman. We will have no shortage of first base covering. You recall last off season Doug honed in on the bull pen. And indeed he fixed it. The starting pitching the year PFx1 says was the Greinke/Marcum show. When third base was crap a couple of years ago, Doug found all sorts of money for ARam. We should be thankful Davis and Scooter showed a non elite prospect can play. And you recall last year Doug was all gushie over our young starters that had a handful of starts for success. So, I will be happy when Doug gets Hart back for a 3 mill base and 3 mill in incentives. Then a 6 mill option for 2015. Then we end up having the same team for 2014 and 2015 - which was similar to what we should have had this year. My feeling is we need to actually let the guys we have play. We cannot edge up or edge down. We cannot improve a lot. And Doug has no stomach for a rebuild. Oh, I can link back to the topic. We actually do not need a bundle of high end prospects THIS offseason. We have no where to put them. 2014 needs to be the minors 2014 development year. Our AA team needs to be young and GOOD. If our MLB team stinks again in 2014 and the 2014 minors are mediocre.... we are dead for five or six years. It will not be pretty.
  4. My thinking is this will be the quietest off season in Brewer memory. Without boring anyone, I or most readers here, can probably lay out 23 of the 25 man roster for 2014. And the last two spots are neither here nor there (the last bullpen guy and the Yuni-replacement). Therefore, now that the dust has settled on 2013, with THAT KNOWN 2014 ROSTER, if there are not injuries and the team (on the whole) plays a bit above itself... are we playoff possibilities? I don't mean playoff fluke possibilities. I mean, simply, do we have a roster that is worth having hope in. Loyalty aside, brewer goggles aside... man for man... are we competitive.
  5. For sure and certain Weeks will start at 2nd to begin 2014. He will get a final chance to succeed. And so he should. He can bat .250 and show a .350 OBP. I can see him leading off and sometimes Aoki leading off (when having his few starts in left field). And I am sure Scooter will get the first month at AAA awaiting the Weeks outcome. And hooray, this Herrera becomes the 25th guy on the roster replacing Yuni. And, I assume Herrera is our leading candidate for first base (has he played more than NIL MLB games there?)
  6. I am enjoying McCann's performance this series. He single handedly could be responsible for the outcome.
  7. If the youngster is a star and you go year by year... for the next five... are you not 500k 500k 4mill 8 mill 12 mill... so a star, a super star costs you 25 mill over 5 years. Then he leaves and you get a first round draft pick. How does Segura counter that. I think it must indeed be the 5 year 20 mill and team option... say 8 mill. Still the management put up most of the risk. Why would you pay $20 mill (save $5 mill) just in case you can have a guy in the last year for 8 mill. If I am management, I am sticking to 5 years at 20 mill total, then TWO team options. Year by Year (if that is a no go) is just fine. And, in fact, Segura and his agent already chose that - yr by yr - so sobeit.
  8. Aoki is a great, great 4th outfielder for the Crew. Or he likely is a great leadoff / improvement for some other teams. Either way is a great outcome for the Crew.
  9. You gotta hang onto Weeks. He platoons with Scooter for a month or two and you see what you have. It is painful having two 2nd baseman... but for the Crew's sake, it likely works. Bianchi is so flexible that it lets you get away with it. I consider Weeks 24 man on the roster (he is the right hand pinch hitter and sometimes 2nd baseman). Bianchi is a great, great 25th man. Oddly with our two infielders being righty. I guess it is nice our 4 and 5 outfielders will be lefty.
  10. I think if you have a .849 first half vs .583 second half, you do NOTHING (unless the guy wants security and gives a big home town discount). I am so tired of seeing bloated contracts where the money is wasted. I dont mind the system where the young guy gets paid for what he DID. Not what his agent (are you listening Gagne Boras) says he 'will do'. Segura had his chance. His agent thought him a super star. Fine. Let him be that superstar for the next five year at leauge min for 2 years, then arbitration for three more.
  11. I always get confused when the bleeding obvious is not obvious. If the Crew go with Aoki as the fourth outfielder it just works perfect. Braun, post lozenge, seems to be prone for niggles. So we will not be a 160 game a year guy. Davis, you can guess he will have ups and downs. So he will need the odd rest and platoon. And Aoki played miles better not going EVERY day. And!!!!! as Doug said in his end of year presser... having 4 starting outfielders allows you to trade - rather than free agent. But it is a good question re 'who leads off'. The 'blue' Weeks is an obvious answer re lefties. Aoki is an answer re righties (mind you, I think he hits lefties better! - but against a rightie there is no obvious leadoff). The Crew will keep Weeks and Aoki in 2014. And that is for the best, in my thinking.
  12. Toronto started a part time, maybe, who knows 28 year old back end ceiling guy. He gave up 6 runs in 2/3 of an inning. Toronto lose trying out fringe prospects Whereas our Crew put their bet lineup possible. Squeezing every out and inning possible from the established guys. Now guys like Nelson and Halton can return to AAA for more seasoning (I quite RR). I guess riding the pine did not season them enough I do find it amazing all the teams near us went like 3-7 or 4-6 the last 10 whilst we squeezed out the wins. Other teams (I assume - like Toronto today) were trotting out their maybe prospects. Our maybe prospects will take another year to evaluate because we need to push had in garbage time Great great management ( how do you do the blue ) Oh if we played prospects down the stretch and WIN that is what I want. If they stink you learn and get higher draft picks. If they play well and we win we don't need the higher picks. Is it THAT hard to figure out?
  13. It points to an overall management problem / philosophy with this organisation. They con themselves every year into beliveing a few wins in garbage time is more important than developing what talent they have. I assume (I dont read the other teams boards that are diving down past us) other organisations realise they are 'out of it when they 15 to 20 games back' and play for next year (developing talent and giving them experience). By the way, if we get, say down to the 13th pick, can we sign a free agent and LOSE IT and have no first round pick. Maybe it is just a money saving strategy by our brilliant management. Clever like a fox!
  14. "Braun was also scared of ground balls. He knew in his head he couldn't field them cleanly" Is this true / fact?
  15. I only have two guys I want to see as main starters at first next year... Hart or Braun. And I used to lean toward Hart, but now I lean toward Braun. Let Davis play left. He has shown he is a MLB player in my opinion. So, I am, from one to nine... pitch, Lucroy, Braun, Gennett/Weeks platoon, ARam, Segura, Davis, Gomez, Aoki. Bianchi and Franciso as backup infielders. Schafer as backup outfielder. Maldonado the backup catcher. 13 position... 12 pitchers. Buit, I hope they trade Francisco to an American League team as a DH.
  16. I do have one question not answered by the statement. WHO is the third party that 'reached out' to Ryan. Who is it?
  17. What else can he say verbally? The statement covers all angles Did you use outside of the scenario you described? No Did you use in the scenario you described? Yes Did you use in college? No Why did your profess your innocence? It was a really bad mistake on my part to think I somehow did nothing wrong. I now know I did wrong. We can go on and on. But any possible question that one can raise is covered in the statement.
  18. Just wait for the nine game winning streak in June 2014, to prove we are contenders in 2015. ...and the beat goes on...
  19. I am not sure the 'average' starter in MLB is on $10 mill a year. re the comment: 'As our pitching will likely never be in the top 5 in the league...', I am sad. I do not want to be a fan of a team with crappy pitching and crappy defense being lugged around with a bunch of old, slow ex-home run hitter. I like baseball because it blends pitching, and defence, and thinking, and hitting. Maybe the Crew should move to a slow pitch softball league.
  20. If it is insignificant then it cannot also be 'hurting his development' I would rather see four Nelson starts rather than starts 29 30 31 32 from Wily. But it is a moot point. RR has spoken. Wily will get his 32 starts. And Nelson 'maybe' one
  21. I don't think they have pulled Wily early in games. I see he has 144 ip in 25 starts I will guess he has had a number of short ip outings - high pitches per inning I don't think there is any need to have the guy start 32 or 33 times - a go to wo season. Let him have 28 or 29 starts. In 2014 he can grow into his 32 full year starts
  22. I checked Peralta's innings not long ago. And he seemed a candidate in a lost year to be shut down mid Sep. I thought it will then be good to have Nelson get three starts or so To do that Nelson should be curtailed a bit in the Nasville lost season But no. In reading our brilliant long term planner RR we 'may' see Nelson one start. And we will grind peralta to the max Since we will play our first stringers against the other teams September call ups I can see us with a decent sep record. Doug will use that to explain we are playoff FAVS for 2014. And when Wily breaks down mid 2014 our management will say: gee we just have bad luck again
  23. Melvin is such a fixer one year too late. Aram was a fix. Bullpen this year was fixed. We seem to have seven viable first base option now. Even Lucroy now Even Suppan and Lohse were fixes. Gagne was a fix Doug is the least forward looking person imaginable. I am sure in 2015 the fix will be 2nd base A viable forward plan would be nice. Not a backward looking plan
  24. I think the Brewers need to be 'tough' with all their fringe guys. Offer them small guaranteed with incentives. Then a team option for year two. If they turn that down we part ways amicably
