  1. .300/.400/.500 30 home runs 30 stolen bases 100 rbis 100 runs
  2. 1) Weeks/Scooter 50/50 platoon... let us gently see what we have in these two guys 2) Lucroy... a steady, level headed, OBP guy here, no need for stolen bases in front of the next two 3) Braun 4) Ramirez... please don't have bad knees this year; we have no backup for you in cleanup 5) Gomez... if you put him too high he runs into outs; if you put him 4, he thinks he is a home run king; here he can PLAY all roles 6) Segura... you could argue to put Jean at 6, to let Gomez AND Jean have 'fun' in front of Reynolds 7) Reynolds... his long at bats (Ks and/or home runs!) will give Gomez and Jean time to have fun; from time to time Green or Francisco as lefty 8) Davis When Maldy gives Lucroy a rest, every 5th/6th day (maybe try to time for a left hand opponent starter?) - Maldy should bat 8, and just move all up ONE SPOT. But they never do that, do they? The biggest problem above can be is ARam is not healthy to play 150 games. Because managers do not like to shuffle, it simply means you put a different number four batter in... likely Reynolds (and the odd Juan Fran v righties). So your entire feeling of the lineup changes. Then to replace ARam in the field, you end up with Green in the 8 spot, and Davis at 7. But, all in all, that appears to be an above average batting lineup.
  3. I want to have a new go.... Rotation: Lohse, Garza, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada Bullpen: Henderson, Kintzler, Smith, K-Rod, Wang (Rule V guy), Gorzelanny, Thornburg (Figaro first guy up from AAA if needed) Lineup: C-Lucroy 1B-Reynolds 2B-Gennett/Weeks SS-Segura 3B-Ramirez LF-Davis CF-Gomez RF-Braun Bench: C-Maldy, IF/OF-Herrera, IF-Bianchi, OF-Schafer, 1B/3B-Francisco or Green... hopefully Green, if JuanFran traded Edit. Sorry cant count. Bianchi back to AAA
  4. I think there are many scenarios (just one line scenarios) that completely change the makeup 1) does Weeks shine in Spring Training 2) do we really want to keep Wang 3) is Gorzellany going to miss the first couple of seeks 4) will any infielder be hurt 5) will Herrera (because he can play outfield and shortstop) challenge Bianchi 6) can the Brewers flip Juan Fran to a team needing a DH 7) will Reynolds simply be THE first baseman I am almost temped to 'hope for' Reynolds IS the first baseman. Herrera beats Bianchi for the 25th man spot Weeks and Scooter do platoon at first and bat lead off Keeping Wang is a top priority (so I hope Gorzy spends the first fortnight on the DL) Juan Fran is released / traded and GREEN obtains his spot. I really appears the two or three spots are the most interesting this year. The last bullpen guy (Wang). The 25th man who can play SS and outfield. The 24th man (Green or Juan Fran) that is a left hand first/third baseman.
  5. "So now the Mariners are moving Jesus Montero to 1B...That makes it Smoak/Hart/Morrison/Montero to play one position." I think the Mariners are doing that for a combination of two reasons 1) They saw what happened last year in Milwaukee 2) Yuni has moved closer to Seattle than any other MLB city
  6. Gindl will not be on the MLB roster unless Gennett is in AAA or some injury happens Am I right that Herrera (is that spellt right) plays outfield too. He could be a threat to Bianchi And Rogers, Morris, Halton will give us a trifecta of first baseman playing full time to see if we have a guy for Milwaukee in 2015 Thanks for this thread. I have been waiting weeks for it
  7. Why would you offer a guy more than he will get in arby. Segura should take LESS to ensure his lifetime income I projected what he would get in arbitration if he was a very, very good player. And his pre arby and arby does not average out to 8 mill or even 6 mill a year. Unless there is a team discount for risk then you go year by year
  8. "I don't think I can recall seeing a player who was a top prospect and had such a good year as Segura did, become so terrible that he wasn't worth 11 million from ages 23 to 28." Ike Davis
  9. To find out what Haudricourt thinks the Brewers are thinking re Weeks, one should read the entire chat. There was a lot of Weeks (no just one throw away line) comment in there. I agree with the comment "if Weeks is on the team, then Scooter will end up with a month in AAA." It just makes too, too much sense. You let Weeks play every day in MLB. You let Scooter play every day in AAA. THEN you make your decision a month into the season. And, to be sure, one can even use spring training as the 'pre one month'. That is, there is no excuse for Weeks or Scooter to struggle in spring training. This will be one spring training that means a lot. Because the 'body of work' on the two players is mixed. Weeks... is he really done and dusted, and no good for ever more. Scooter... is he really a MLB average type player.
  10. Interesting to me that his velocity drop (fastballs) between 2008 and 2013 was only 1.1 mph. 92.2 vs 91.1. And, as the article says, his offspeed stuff (vs left hand batters) was much, much improved subsequent to his 2008 62 save season. Without any emotion attached, the articles analysis supports the hypothesis that the old dog aint so old and still has his high K tricks.
  11. "The logical fallacy here is the assumption that Weeks needs a reason to try hard" Strawman. I did not say that. I did not assume that. Weeks should be healthy. He should be over (hopefully) his loss of his mate, Prince. If the stars are to align for Weeks, it will be at the start of 2014.
  12. A double AMEN... even triple to 502. It seems to me our methods must be wrong. Blind luck (no method other than following a Baseball America list) would surely snare a top prospect ONCE IN A WHILE.
  13. I don't believe talent vanishes. Weeks is the best, by far, lead off option we have at this stage. I assume he knows the first six weeks he is playing for his career and 10s of millions. If ever he will perform it will be the first four to six weeks of this season. I hope to see the Brewers have that effort for them My gut says 'comeback player of the year'. It is possible
  14. I think Doug is having a wee game of poker with the Mets. Ike not available? OK, we sign Reynolds and bring in Overbay. So we don't need Ike now. I think Doug and anyone (fan) wanting a big upside will be interested in Ike. My hope is JuanFran is traded to an American League team for 'any' prospect. And we trade a couple middling prospects for Ike Davis. Reynolds being a backup for ARam and a platoon guy with Davis gives the team a very strong feel, in my opinion.
  15. Years ago Law wrote of the problems of the Brewers... wasting money on aged, no good, free agents. And he specifically pointed on Jose Hernandez. I think this was during the 2002 season. Jose had an ops over .800 (I think) and played solid D at shortstop - and if I recall the contract was like $3 mill a year. He was a Brewer from 2000 - 2002. From Wikipedia: Primarily a shortstop, Hernández played every position except pitcher. His most productive season came in 2001 with Milwaukee, when he posted career highs in home runs (24), RBI (77), hits (151), doubles (26) and games (152). Despite his .249 average, he posted a .356 on-base percentage. In 2002, Hernandez struck out 188 times, one shy of the MLB record. Then-Brewers manager Jerry Royster kept him out of the lineup in four of the last five games of the season so he would not break the dubious record. He led the majors in highest strikeout percentage (35.8%).[1] In 2002, Hernández hit 24 home runs with 73 RBI and a career-high .288 average Now Law (an East Coast teams lover) proceeded to explain, in his writings, the (good) Yankee way (compared to the Crew). I wrote him a short email explaining some bloated, unproductive Yankee contracts. And I explained than Hernandez was a good contract. Keith Law wrote back to me and said: 'I am right. And you are wrong. And that is because I went to an Ivy League college' Strange email exchange.
  16. Reading somewhere this morning I came across 'the Yankees are looking at ARam as a one year solution at third' That was weird to read. As it was a casual throw in line!
  17. Weeks/Gennett platoonish... I am thinking .350 OBP Lucroy last year .340 obp, 18 home runs, .795 ops no running needed in front of next three Braun A-Ram Reynolds/JuanFran... platoonish Gomez... a good running spot for Gomez Segura... not sure what to make of last years halves, but 7 hole a good running place Davis To be honest, it is not a bad lineup. The days Lucroy does not play, Martin should bat 8... just move everyone up one spot The rotation is not bad now with Garza The bullpen and overall health seem to determine if we are 5/6 games below or above .500 I am interested now about the AAA and AA squads to see if any future help can develop.
  18. Rotation: Lohse, Garza, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada Bullpen: Henderson, Kintzler, Smith, Figaro, Wang (Rule V guy), Burgos, Thornburg Lineup: C-Lucroy 1B-Reynolds 2B-Gennett SS-Segura 3B-Ramirez LF-Davis CF-Gomez RF-Braun Bench: 2B-Weeks, C-Maldy, IF-Bianchi, OF-Schafer, 1B/3B-Francisco Gorzelanny replacing Burgos when he comes off the DL Obviously, if DM picks up the 'veteran BP ex closer type', then Figaro ends up in AAA starting. Burgos and Figaro starting in AAA for the first half, and performing, may give Doug the nerve to deal an MLB stater mid year (YoGo or Marco)
  19. Igor: Given history I like the idea of signing starting pitchers to below market deals and spending higher draft picks on hitters as a strategy more than hoping we'll figure out how to magically draft and develop them reliably somehow Well said. Lord knows it is so disappointing that we, re pitchers, draft dumb (Rogers over Bailey, a Maine we will fix your delivery project over a Texan solid) and/or develop dumb. I would hope we can start drafting all high school pitchers and then hope and pray. Or better yet, let us start trading for other systems guys in A or A+. Then we can hope and pray more - because we did not draft them, nor develop them for the first couple years. Garza. Amazing sign. Question: how / why in the world would he come here? Is this step ONE of Ryan Braun's redemption? I believe the World Baseball Cup messed up Gallardo. It will be so interesting to see his velocity the first half of this year. Doug gets a free bullpen pitcher thrown in with the deal - likely Thornburg. Or he gets a free Ike. You gotta admit. With Garza in the rotation, if somehow we ended up with Ike/Reynolds at first, and traded JuanFran for ANY, even A- level, prospect to an American League team... well, that gives me (any fan) that one word we need at the start of each season.... HOPE!
  20. Given the main signings have come thick and fast this week, I think we are very set: Segura SS Lucroy C Braun RF Reynolds 2nd (9 games last year) Halton 3rd (looked good in his trial there) JuanFran LF (based on infield D, best projects into LF) Morris 1st Overbay CF (Gomez against some tough lefties) The ideal thing that will relax Doug is that if Morris is hurt at first base - we do seem to have an injury bug / curse at first base - he has a ready made, ready made, ready made, ready made player already on the roster. However, Doug may need to find one more backup corner infielder, as Bianchi has not played first. Better for DM and RRR to be safe, rather than sorry. edit: no need to go shopping, I think the Rogers kid played 1st base well at AA, so he is ready to fill in as the bench bat / backup first baseman.
  21. I, tongue in cheek, jested a few months ago, that DM would end up with half dozen first baseman on the roster. And it may be that from last year's 'no body EVER played first before', that we will end up with 'half a dozen guys who have played first'. Doug is so odd in his roster management. He seems to not foresee or plan for things not going perfect. Then the next year he overcompensates for the thing that went wrong the year before. That is truly frustrating to watch. So, as fondy said, having FIVE real first basemen in camp seems... dumb. If Juan is so bad defensively, he should be let go to an American League team that can use a DH.
  22. Thanks for the links Mass. Mind you, it is a depressing read. I am tempted to try to find if there are ANY high, high upside guys in the system. Aside from D Williams, we have NIL, it seems. And I worried where in the Williams discussion it says he has some inconsistencies in the delivery, but he is athletic, so good coaching will fix that. I always worry about the development staff of the Brewers - because their results have been so, so awful.
  23. Licey wins in the 9th, by one run Licey Top of the 9th Pitching Change: Zack Segovia replaces Rhiner Cruz. Engel Beltre strikes out swinging. Erick Aybar called out on strikes. Juan Francisco homers (5) on a fly ball to right center field.
  24. It was commented (jokingly, I think) in another thread that perhaps giving up first rounders to get talent for a few years under market price may be the 'new market inefficiency'. That is, you get the most value for money signing guys like Lohse for three years. Personally, I think high defensive ability players are at too cheap. You cannot find superstars on D and O, very often. And it seems like you pay big bucks for quality offense and for quality defence (with little O), you get for free. I am very old school. I think with great defence you can make up for offensive deficiencies. So, it is bad luck for me my team for the last decade has been all about bombers with no D abilities.
  25. I will bet the Brewers 1st base will out OPS Seattle this year. Ike has the much, much higher upside. He could have been our first baseman for years if he became the original Ike. But I like the signing. He is indeed a real MLBer. Juan Fran I think hurt himself with his terrible D at first. How can one have terrible D at first. At least Reynolds is very 'average-ish' there. Now, we only need to sign K-Rod and our off season is done, and we are ready to rock and roll.
