  1. On topic, Aguilar is just on a roll. Another HR.... barehand defensive play... sad he wasn’t put on team & needs to do final vote
  2. “In 2009, a report came out that David Ortiz's sample test from 2003 was one of more than 100 flagged to showing positive for a substance that is now banned. It wasn't banned at the time. “ 1st, he tested positive for a substance that at the time was allowed..... if you are going to make a case that a guy used PEDs to get good (doesn’t work that way, no substance is going to take you from okay to hall of famer.... way to much involved with hitting) you should talk about guys who tested positive for things NOT allowed! If you go to your check to see if you can take a supplement and it be fine & it is..... is that cheating? They add supplements and substances to banned list every year. Just because they decided to ban it 6 years later doesn’t mean he cheated. That is only time in his career he was flagged. He was often tested for 13 years after and never once had a positive test..... his teammate you mentioned failed tests. Not normal for a guy in his mid 30s to hit a wall and figure it out again? Disagree. You are claiming he started taking PEDs late in career .... every test missed it, and all of a sudden he was hitting for average again? Mind you.... you are talking about late 2000s & 2010s where mlb was on a witch hunt to find & punish anyone was touches PEDs. Btw his “awful season” he hit .240, .800 ops, 35 doubles, 28 hrs 99 rbis. That was 2009 and really his only “bad” season. Look at his numbers with Twins he was improving and showing growth. He was an .800 OPS prior to prime. No substance in the world will make you hit for average. It may add strength & power but isn’t going to improve contact or being a good overall hitter. If you don’t believe a 6’3 250 guy can naturally hit for power.... then Jesus must be on something. Remember he almost didn’t make team last year & this year it was in question. Yet all of a sudden he is MVP candidate. If Ortiz couldn’t have done it without PEDs.... how could Jesus? Also PEDs isn’t steroids..... you can go GNC right now, buy a diet pill, and test positive. All it takes is one ingredient. Prescription & over the counter are often flagged as drug policies have gotten stricter.
  3. If you really want Britton in package, look more at Lucroy Trade. Machado much more valuable hitter but Luc had extra year of control & Jeffress was on fire & control. Due to both Britton & Machado being rentals you won’t need the top centerpiece but a Broxton, Woodruff, and Ortiz. That is two top 100 prospect arms & mlb OF. I think it’s a lot but gets deal done
  4. Disagree strongly. He was tested often from 2003 til retirement & never failed a test. His name popped up in a report in early 2000s before he ever really bursted into the scene. With Twins he was actually solid. OPS around .800. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/when-it-comes-to-david-ortiz-ped-talk-should-be-very-very-limited/amp/ Ortiz always was a big boy like Jesus.... like fielder, and others who just have natural power there. Big, strong boys. He was solid prospect who could hit. He got first call up at 21. Not like he came out of nowhere. Some guys just take longer to find there stride. He really took off around 27/28 (like Jesus) which is entering a players prime when most start to click. Love that everyone who was good will have to have people say “must of used PEDs.” No failed tests for 13 years during all of his all-star seasons. Yet must of been the PEDs.... [sarcasm]With this logic, my guess is Jesus must be on PEDs.... it is impossible to for big, strong, guy to put things together in their primes without using PEDs[/sarcasm] Sorry for rant but love Big Papi & will debate to my death of him as a natty guy. Article says it all. Hopefully Aguilar follows his path! Babe Aguilar!
  5. Yankees have been shopping for SP pretty hard from what I’ve read. I don’t see them pursuing Machado too hard.
  6. Lutz in his last 10.... 6 multi hit games (hits in 8 of 10) Has walked 8 times to 8 ks. 9 XBH (2 HR, 1 3B, 6 2B). 9 RBIs...... last 30 days he is hitting .301, .368 in last 10
  7. Coming off injury not surprised, hope he finds it again soon. Like Trent Grisham, averages can bottom out quick. Grisham was at .250 & fell to .200 in a matter of a week
  8. As for Woodruff vs. Burnes.... I just like Corbin’s profile better. I often say he reminds me of Chase Anderson (when Chase is on & velocity is up). Woodruff I see a lot of Jimmy Nelson. Big difference is Burnes has had outstanding command of almost all of his pitches since joining Brewers & Woodruff losses it for stretches. While Woodruff throws gas, it is pretty hittable gas like Wily Peralta. Since Spring when up, he has had more issues with commanding his fastball than he has in past. He needs to hit spots with it. When he does, he is really tough! Has very nice breaking ball he can play off of with it. Burnes can just attack with 3-4 pitches in all counts & also has strong enough velocity. I like both pitchers & prefer to keep both but Woodruff is #3 on depth chart behind Peralta & Burnes now. Trust Burnes being stronger & more consistent member of rotation over Woodruff
  9. I’d take a nice clunker by Brown tonight. Much prefer he stays a Brewer.
  10. I’d take a nice clunker by Brown tonight. Much prefer he stays a Brewer.
  11. 1. He's bulked up since he entered MLB 2. Thirdbase and shortstop are entirely different positions. The amount of ground a shortstop is asked to cover compared to 3rd is night and day. A player at thirdbase also isn't asked to turn double plays where footwork and athleticism matters a lot. Having to make catches on flares into the outfield that a guy playing thirdbase just stands and watches. Machado is built more like an NFL safety now than the smooth smaller athletes who play well at shortstop. He started 45 games at SS in 2016 and was at least average & solid there. UZR/150 of 1.4. Not incredible but solid. Not the -15.5 UZR/150 he has this season ( double the amount of games than 2016)
  12. Crazy the difference. He is a gold glove 3B with incredible range there. Slide back to his original home at SS & all of that is gone. I’d also like to point out as a whole the O’s defense is absolutely brutal. Mix in the frustrations of being worse team in baseball, that can negatively impact players. Maybe on better team, it cleans up a little. He had a career 10.0 defensive WAR good for 22 amongst active players & is by far youngest of those 22. The rest are 28 or over... mostly 30 year old + vets
  13. Still find it funny some of the packages I see. If this was this time last year, some of the packages would be closer but man.... people out there really overvalue the rental markets. Teams just don’t buy rentals in the way they use to. Bad business. The Woodruff, Phillips, Brown, Erceg, Nottingham for Machado & Britton?! That seems like it’s coming straight from an Orioles fan fantasy day dream! How awful of an investment is that? Our bullpen is strong & doesn’t need Britton. Mortgage 5 very good mlb prospects for 2 1/2 months?! Stearns would be a laughing stock. He’s not a fool. You trade those 5 in a package, you better be getting a controllable Ace...
  14. Wow oh wow! Wisconsin poured in 21 hits today! Another great game by Tristian Lutz who has been real hot as of late. Clark has monster day! He also has been on fire the last month or so! He was 5-6 today
  15. Disagree strongly with price being brutal. Rentals really just don’t get the blockbuster deals they use to. DS has been against rentals for good reason & highly doubt he is going to make a trade that will hurt us moving forward. Hiura, Peralta, Burnes, Arcia are not going to go anywhere. They are more clear shots for the future. If we’d still get a a 1st round pick for him & an even remote chance to sign him, maybe pay more but we don’t have either. JD Martinez only fetched DBacks #4, #15, and rookie league unranked guy. Hard to say Machado rental will cost too much more than Martinez... DBacks had weak system. Players ended up the 11th, 18th, and unranked in Tigers system. I feel trade will be very livable. The depth we have created with upper level arms with Peralta, Burnes, Woodruff, Ortiz, Brown, Medeiros, Diplan, Houser, Supek, Ponce and etc makes life easier. Hate to loss both Woodruff plus Ortiz or Brown. Medeiros & Diplan would sting as well as a 2nd pitcher.
  16. Personal feeling, Peralta, Burnes, Hiura off limits for a rental. Orioles get: Santana/Broxton Ortiz/Woodruff 3rd piece more difficult to predict could be another AA guy like Stokes. On a higher end Diplan or Erceg Keep seeing Arcia tossed around on here, don’t see it happening.... not for rental. Gold glove defense, hit okay last year, still very young.... I highly doubt DS & CC are done with him & giving up already.
  17. I think Santana could be a viable 4th piece. Something like Woodruff, Ortiz/Burnes, Arcia/Dubon and Santana. I’ll pass on that deal for a rental who is still owed 16 million. I’d gladly pick up a larger chunk of that salary to reduce cost. Long term doesn’t make sense to trade Arcia. Giving up on a young talent at premium spot with not much to replace him. Machado will be gone next year & we will need someone. Saladino the SS of the future? Dubon with 6 great weeks in AAA the future? If Machado had more control I could see Burns, Arcia being traded but teams just don’t pay those prices anymore for 2 month rentals def ones who have such a big price tag.
  18. Does anyone think Orioles would take flier on Santana? Outside of Jones who they may also move, their OF is not good & little depth. You buy Santana who is still young & hope he regains 2017 form. Santana, Phillips, Ray, Taylor, Stokes all seem like logical guys who are close to MLB ready who could help them. Santana, Woodruff, Stokes for Machado.... eat some of the contract
  19. Never really get the Perez whipping. He excels of the bench with versatility, is one of the guy chemistry guys on & off the team, and while he doesn’t walk, he hits enough. Not an everyday top of lineup bat but for role he has.....he is a good piece. Now if he was the guy at 2nd like Villar or something, I’d have issue but that isn’t his role. He is simply a reliable, versatile, decent bat. Barnes right now is another bad outing away from being whipping boy in pen. On my Facebook feed the other day, the war on Barnes had begun. Villar’s solid start has regressed greatly and Miller should steal more time away. If not, the Villar hate will rapidly increase. Barnes & Villar are ones I think are most likely. Right now Kratz & Nottingham are going to have to fight for spot. If Nottingham produces, Kratz scuffles, and then Nottingham is one sent down for Pina. Kratz will be roasted
  20. Gray & Quintana last year we headlined most of the rumors for....
  21. 16 million is no pocket change but I’d eat as much of that as possible to reduce price on prospects. If we don’t lose Burns, Hiura, or Peralta... hard to complain about any outcome of the trade
  22. And teams shouldn’t because it is not smart to do so. Never has been which stuns me that a lot of fans want to see us back up the farm for him. Gone are the days where you receive a 1st round comp pick for losing rentals so you no longer even get anything back. Paying a big load for 2 months is pretty big risk
  23. Arcia 1-2 with 3 walks?! Who is this guy?! That’s like a months worth in one game! Hopefully he’s seeing ball better & getting some kinks out!
  24. Peralta may loss status by post trade line when we make our next Top 25. Think Segovia, Webb, Payton Henry, and Demi O have made nice jumps. Jean Carmona, Chad McClanahan both pushing forward with Coco looking positive. Carlos Rodriquez has been great. Bello showing up with Turang & Gray Jr both being drafted high enough that they will fall in top 25. Lutz is adjusting and coming on. Feliciano has had lost season so far and hurt his stock. Be interesting how it all shakes out
