  1. Well, he hit it hard. Not a bad AB. I'm not a huge Rickie fan, but the good news is when he gets hot, it very well could be in situations where this team needs him more than they have lately.
  2. Nice play, Rick. Credit where credit is due. Let's have one of those, great defensive play, great performance at the plate in the next inning moments.
  3. I don't think the extension is a terrible idea, but I think there's less risk to waiting than some believe. After this year, Segura has two more years under team control at league minimum. With any offer buying out those two years and arby seasons, I have a little bit of a hard time believing he'd let it ride on two whole seasons and hope to hit it huge. He might, sure. But I don't think it's incredibly likely. There's a risk with everything. I think the goal should always be minimizing risk. I think the best chance for that is to wait at least until late this year and probably push any offer into the offseason.
  4. The good news is the Padres really can't capitalize offensively in this series. Bloop and a blast is all it takes.
  5. Rickie has been so frustrating. And it isn't just this year. I'm not going to get up in arms calling for him to be benched or anything, but would a day off really hurt anyone? His head is not in it right now, and that's pretty easy to see.
  6. Alright! Nine sounds fine. Let's go for double digits tomorrow.
  7. Henderson throwing a lot of pitches. 3-2 on every hitter so far.
  8. This Segura kid. Wow. And I don't even care that there are nine other posts in this thread saying the same thing. He deserves it.
  9. Nice to have a run differential night in game one. That's 8. Let's keep it rolling...
  10. Not sure if they've mentioned this on TV, but Ueck just added it, and here's a link: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/eye-on-baseball/22116974/kyle-lohse-leaves-game-with-dislocated-pinky-on-non-throwing-hand Dislocated is probably good news. Though the photo going along with that link isn't exactly for the faint of heart.
  11. I think it's a testament to just how good the bullpen has been over the past week or so that Figaro has been the "mop up" guy. He seems to have pretty good stuff.
  12. It being his bottom hand is a little more problematic from a hitting standpoint. Though presumably he'd still be able to bunt, as someone already mentioned. We'll know for sure tomorrow, I guess, but I'd probably err on the side of a DL stint if it's one of those breaks where it might heal crooked. Wouldn't want something small to keep him out of games later in the year (and by "small" I don't mean to diminish the pain--that stuff HURTS). Let's hope is one of those "pop it back in and put it in a splint and it's good to go."
  13. I'm not sure what to make of the Lohse injury. It didn't look pretty, but it also should be fixable fairly quickly. I guess it's just wait and see. The good news is even a 15-day DL stint means only 3 missed starts.
  14. Yeah, I hadn't thought of an 8-man lineup either. I like the boldness of it. It would, however, be a really radical rule change, wouldn't it? Without doing any kind of research, my gut feeling is we'd be talking about a significant increase in offense just from getting your top three hitters that many more at-bats over the course of a season. I'm inclined to think the offense/defense rule should apply to starting pitchers as much as it does to hitters as well. I kind of blown away by the suggestion though. It's provocative.
  15. Not to restart a dead-horse debate, but DM is quoted extensively in Jayson Stark's ESPN article regarding the inevitable expansion of the DH rule. Here is the link: http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9158659/mlb-designated-hitter-spread-nl For Brewer fans, I think what's interesting is getting into Melvin's head a little bit in terms of roster construction and the economics of contracts given the different AL and NL rules. It may not be anything revolutionary, but I think it's a good read. Really interesting tidbit about Overbay as well. Might liven up the discussion regarding the current lack of a true 1B on the active roster.
  16. It looks like rain tomorrow, which can only help the Crew at this point. Two days off would be nice.
  17. The starting pitching has looked much better this series. Good outings from Estrada and Peralta. If those two are throwing well, Lohse and Gallardo make the starting rotation pretty solid. The offense, when healthy, is great. This team is playing really, really poorly right now. BUT from what I can tell the bullpen might be the only glaring weakness going forward. Put together a few wins. There are 18 games left in April. Just win 10. 37 games into 2011, this team was 16-21. I'm not going into panic mode yet.
  18. This bullpen is just awful. Try to win a series tomorrow, I guess.
  19. The Cubs have not scored six runs all year. That's true. It's also depressing.
