  1. And tomorrow. I'd like to see us really take of Taillon. Just coming off a bunch of rehab starts. I guess he built up to around 80 pitches, so he'll have some length, but just forcing a lot of reliever usage should help a lot the next couple days.
  2. Inclined to agree, but you do want to make the Cubs use their good relievers for the last six outs. Pomeranz looks like he'll get the eighth? CC must love that dude. I would imagine Thielbar gets Turang, though.
  3. Low-key highlight of the game for me: The fans at Wrigley have no idea what's going on. Cheering for foul balls like four times today. And then gasping on Sal's near-miss. Hilarious.
  4. From the other side, the Cubs are on their 8th game in eight days, a lot of them close. Palencia and Keller are reasonably fresh for them, but a lot of the guys have been worked pretty hard IIRC. And they still have 9 outs to get in this one, having already let Keller toss up a bunch of pitches.
  5. The advantage of being the road team (and one with a pretty deep bullpen) is we can throw Anderson or Mears or even Tobias for the 7th/8th and save Megill/Uribe/Koenig for the winning innings if needed. Not a huge loss if you lose with those guys. Ashby hasn't pitched in two days and only threw 10 pitches last time. Hopefully Woody's efficient, but you've got options for game two.
  6. Was pondering the optimal approach here. I like the idea of trying to steal a win with Patrick, especially if it looks like a wind blowing in day. Megill has had two days off, so he will throw tomorrow pretty much no matter what. Miller too, I'd bet. And another day for Ashby helps. We should be in decent shape. I would sign up for a split right now, obviously, but hopefully we can get the first and put the pressure on then in game 2.
  7. You're right. My bad. Maybe not using him back-to-back is a big consideration.
  8. Yeah, and Miller's blowup appearance was the second day of usage in a row. I think they put him in in low-leverage there (we were up 6-0 against Pittsburgh) to see how he a responded to two days in a row. I imagine the results there may be less Murph to think twice about putting in while up a run in the ninth.
  9. Weather looks dicey, but I'm betting the league and the Cubs really want this one in tonight. We'll see if they can push through. Radar seems to clear up around 9-10 (meaning only rain and not thunderstorms), so I suppose they could start then if the Wrigleyville rules allow. Honestly, a PPD is not the worst thing in the world from a Brewers perspective, especially with G1 in the bank, although a later in the week DH does not sound that fun either.
  10. Going to guess they'll try quite hard to get both games in today. Most likely outcome is probably a lightish but consistent rain starting mid-afternoon. With night games Tuesday/Wednesday, I would think they'd be okay playing into the night tonight. Not sure if folks saw Counsell claiming to have never seen a George Webb restaurant (https://www.si.com/mlb/brewers-fans-reporters-catch-craig-counsell-lying-about-teams-burger-promotion), but I think there's a great marketing opportunity to deliver a whole platter of burgers to the home clubhouse on Wednesday.
  11. As someone mentioned last night, today feels as gravy as any gravy game can get. But I am sure the Brewers will be going all out to win with the guys they have available. Would be shocked to see Koenig, Uribe, or Megill today. Throw Mears and Ashby in there too. It's Quintana's show. Grant Anderson will pitch. Maybe Tobias. Miller to close?
  12. What is going on? My internet crapped out after William's RBI single in the tenth. I had no idea what happened that whole inning, then it comes back, and Mona has just hit a dinger. White-knuckle save from Mears. Complete game for Q tomorrow!!!!
  13. Wow. One good thing here is that these games feel legit pressure-y. Like, these guys WANT it, and that has to be good experience for the postseason.
  14. Yup, only chance was a barehand and a good throw. Can't do it much better if you're Durbin.
  15. Tough night offensively. Very tough pitching matchup tomorrow. Not the worst thing in the world to steal some rest for the good relievers tonight.
  16. It seems almost certain to me that Miz will end up a bullpen arm in the playoffs. Maybe he's a planned piggy-back in two games in a five-game series or three in a 7-gamer. First guy out of the pen, hope he gives you 2 innings.
