  1. To not even get a first down there stings.
  2. Pretty accurate. Only difference, McCarthy had Rodgers and the 49ers have a trash QB. Hahaha. This made me laugh.
  3. I don't know why SF is throwing on first down, honestly.
  4. Fine with 3 there. Any stop now puts SF in a very difficult spot.
  5. At least that wasn't on Crosby, I guess. I could've blocked it from where that dude ended up.
  6. Certainly agree with this.
  7. My random thought is to take the ball if you win the toss. Put SF in the hole early. Try to get them chasing and having to at least think about throwing the ball.
  8. I don't know. I mean, I hear it, but I'm of the view that depth is overrated in a one-and-done tournament. I want my best 6 guys playing 100% of the minutes if their conditioning is there. Whenever Kentucky subs out a five star, no matter who comes in, I'm thinking, "Alright, let's make a run here."
  9. I wonder if some of this is TV. The Kohl doesn't translate well energy wise. Might be camera/mic placement or something, but it feels quieter to me than a lot of arenas through the small screen. Rutgers, for example, just feels fired up all the time, even though I doubt it's that much more intense than the Kohl in reality.
  10. Seems like the Badgers have been better in second halves under Gard. They'll have to get pretty hot, but I think this ends up a single digit game.
  11. Yeah, really missed Wahl, but not playing with a ton of energy either. Sometimes it's as simple as not making shots. They got enough good ones.
  12. Illinois losing means tonight's winner will be in sole possession of first in the B1G. Does not matter at all, but hey. Would be fun to see Wisconsin at the top of the league for as long as it can last.
  13. Parrish and Norlander both said on their pod yesterday they'd have the Badgers as a one seed right now. The profile is there. The next six will provide a clearer picture. I'll say 4-2 (losses at MSU and at Illinois), but 3-3 wouldn't surprise. If they win the games they should against PSU, Nebraska, and Minnesota and get 2 of 3 against MSU and Illinois, it'll be tough for me to see them dropping below a 2 seed.
  14. Yeah, the idea of being at a basketball-first school, where the athletic department is totally structured around MBB is something I'm surprised more coaches don't consider. I get it in terms of the money--Texas and other big-time schools can just offer more. But Big East jobs feel really underrated to me. And Marquette's probably the third-best job in the conference, after Nova and UConn. Depending on how you feel about Xavier, anyway. It may not be the case at the moment, after the down years, but MU has historically been a top spender. At one point, I think they were second only to Duke (don't ask me for evidence). Good to know. I would imagine Power 5, football conferences are a bit more awash in TV money and that helps increases payouts for MBB coaches these days, but, yeah, Marquette's a great job. Honestly, I can think of a couple reasons someone might prefer Texas to Marquette (mainly $$$ and location), but I sure wouldn't. Constantly being on the hot seat and needing to regularly win random tournament games in order to make deep runs and relieve the pressure just sounds like an unhealthy amount of stress. Not that the Big East doesn't have schools with fanbases who really want to win, but I just think it comes with a decrease in pressure that more than offsets the drop from 5 mil in annual salary to 3 mil or whatever. Plus, who needs Austin traffic anyway?

  16. Wow. What a win at Villanova. I thought Marquette was toast when they went down 45-36. I know it's way too early to judge the Shaka hire, but I always thought Marquette was pretty much the perfect school for him. He can get a higher caliber player than he could at VCU, but he can run his system with more buy-in and less ego than at Texas. It just seems like a great fit, and, though I certainly root for UW when the schools play, I love the basketball-first Big East, and Marquette being a perennial tourney team would make the conference and basketball in Wisconsin better. Count me in the Shaka fan club, is what I'm saying.
  17. Agree. Mostly just bringing up to note how good the team's performance has been so far. Northwestern tonight tips as a Q1 game. A Badger win might knock it back to Q2, but I think it'll be a close one. Cats are playing pretty well right now. I'd still take UW -2, but they're just slight favorites for a reason.
  18. Crazy to think about, but UW, as of today, has a darn good case to be a one seed. Seriously. Show me four better resumes. Do I think they're that good? No. I am nervous about them losing to anywhere up to a 13 seed. Computers think they're the lower part of the top 20, and I think that feels right. But wow. Most Q1 wins in the country. Reminds me of the team with Alando Tucker that got a 2-seed and lost to UNLV and Lon Krueger in the Round of 32. Hope this team has better tourney luck. If they get contributions from guys other than Davis, they'll have a good shot.
  19. I was surprised at how close the respective positions are relative to my expectations. I had assumed (based entirely just on gut sense) that there was a massive gulf. Of course, being relatively close doesn't matter if both sides are also very dug in, but it was a small note of hope for reaching some sort of deal before the season gets pushed back too far. I'd say I've adjusted my priors to assume a long delay (missing a month of baseball) is more unlikely.
  20. Yeah, I'll say this is the best year I've experienced. Depending on how you feel about college sports, you could maybe make a case for 2000. Rose Bowl win and MBB Final Four in a 4-month span. Most other teams were bad that year, though. Here's to 2022 ranking even higher.
  21. Yeah, agree with this in terms of resume for sure. They have a top 10 resume. CBB is weird with results-based and predictive metrics. The Badgers being top 10 in the former and top 30 or so in the latter makes sense to me. The NET, which mixes results and predictive metrics, has them 22. Splitting the difference almost exactly.
  22. KenPom agrees with you. Has UW as 10th luckiest program in D1. Usually tenpo-free ratings overrate the Badgers a bit too, so that seems right to me. The big positive: Badgers are very balanced. Top 40 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. Not elite in any category but good in just about all of them.
  23. Count me in as thinking of the Florida game too. Missing free throws and throwing the ball in the air at the end of games. Two things I want to see more of.
  24. Weird half. Maryland doesn't look very good, but the Badgers had a pretty lazy 7 minute stretch there.
