  1. This is my hope. Not quite as much of a gamble as Josh Donaldson, but somewhat similar. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't slot into the rotation immediately. Maybe throws a bullpen or two first and make a tweak or two.
  2. Nah, this is way too far the other way IMO. Thames STILL after being absolute trash as you describe has the same OBP, higher OPS and higher WAR than Braun, with more HR despite missing a huge chunk of this season. He's had a rotten August. No doubt. Its one rotten month. Prior to that he was a very useful lefty bat as he was last season as well. He's putting his 2020 option in a lot of doubt, but no reason to throw in the towel on him now. I just find it odd that Nate brings up some good points on Thames quoting his hard hit percentage and ISO that ironically Braun defenders use frequently to support their stance that he (Braun) has been unlucky, not bad, but when the shoe is on the other foot, Nate is quickly dismissed. Braun is 291/336/485 in the 2nd half, good for 822 ops. Based on the eye test, Braun has looked much better as well. I think Braun is a better option than Aguilar at the moment, though that's definitely debatable. Braun vs Thames is not even remotely debatable right now. Braun is the better choice, it's not close.
  3. I didn't say he was going anywhere. If the Brewers had to choose between Braun or Thames on the playoff roster I would choose Thames as he would be the better choice offensively. Wow, is this real life. Thames has a 507 OPS since the all-star break. End of discussion. There's a lot of pitchers you'd rather have hit than him right now...to point at season stats is wildly lazy. What he's doing right now is what matters. If Thames improves in September, the discussion changes. That dude is completely lost at the plate right now and I wouldn't be surprised if his playing time is minimal down the stretch.
  4. Cedeno has been statistically better and more reliably healthy than Hader this year? That should have been blue, more of a response to the guy thinking Thames deserves a playoff roster spot over braun
  5. Does anyone know if we are doing anything for a speed guy? I'm sure Berry is in AAA but is there room on the 40? I also saw we brought in Emilio Bonifacio, any chance he gets pulled up for speed in September? I know Broxton can be that guy, but he could have other uses in a game than strictly speed.
  6. I would rather have Thames on the post season roster than Braun. Why? Good lord. Lol. Good thing we got Cedeno, he can replace Josh Hader on the postseason roster.....This guy over here.....
  7. Honestly it's going to be really hard to say. We'll have to see how guys look down the stretch. We have so many options at so many spots, virtually any starter not named miley/chacin could be left off the roster with a bad September. Thames could miss if he continues to look like trash. It also could vary by series.
  8. I imagine Granderson will start sparingly and be a LH PH option...along with an excellent addition to the clubhouse for a postseason push. Might play some on double switches. I'll add the Granderson is sporting the highest hard contact rate and highest line drive rate of his career, by a significant margin. Good little move here for very little, and yet another pre-Stearns guy.
  9. One thing I'll add on Harrison, I think it's highly unlikely he was going to stick at catcher. Which likely would mean LF or 1B for him. He didn't really catch much in college and has been pretty bad behind the plate so far in a ball. So a 1b/LF prospect that might sorta kinda be starting to get it in low a at age 22, nothing to see here. And I think everyone should be inimately aware of what Lara is at this point. He also is reportedly lazy and doesn't put in effort, I personally have 0 patience for athletes like that...I couldn't be happier Lara is gone. Maybe DJ/DS see something in what GG is doing that they can tweak over this final month. Minimal cost to hope to get lucky with the rotation. Also this provides that much more depth so we can have very quick hooks if starters struggle in September.
  10. I see what you're doing, after crowing about how good the Schoop trade was, I thought a "reverse jinx" just may work better too!
  11. Gonzalez likely at least had a chance to turn it around. These minor leaguers are almost certain to be terrible
  12. Two minor leaguers for one month of a total washed pitcher. Garbage. I imagine the two minor leaguers are trivial. It could be 10 minor leaguers if all are terrible...
  13. Guess he won't be a Brewer.
  14. Considering September callups, we should have virtually zero issue eating innings. Quality innings is another story...
  15. Last series of the season with the Tigers? What were the schedule makers thinking? Well, guys it's going to be a really interesting September. I wouldn't be surprised if the top seed and both WC's come from the Central again. I don't envy your Sept. schedule; lots of Central games and the Pirates and Reds aren't lame ducks within the division. On the West: those 3 teams are bound to cancel each other out (and they know it) East: I just can't see Atl/Philly hanging with us...maybe next season. I'm of the same mindset as you. Atlanta probably takes the division with their significant lead, I don't think Philly can get to the 87-88 win range that it will likely take(minimum). The Dbacks, Rockies, and Dodgers have 6-7 games against each of the other 2. That's at least half their games that will be very tough. Unless one team really routes the other 2, they'll be generally around 500 on those sets and will have to do really well in the other 13-15 games. I still have hope the Cubs will slip a bit now that they are playing more legit teams, but then again the game yesterday wasn't much of a slip...
  16. We're going to have to hit good pitching to some degree in October, might as well start in September. The bats have been pretty good lately. Scratch out a few runs and hope the pitching holds up. Nationals lineup is weakened, but still very very good.
  17. I'd be happy for McCutchen and wish him well if he hadn't gone to one of three or four specific teams...yankees included. Not his fault, but disappointing.
  18. Be careful. We’re more likely to be competing with the Braves for a WC spot than the Cubs for the division. The good news is one of them will lose! Ehh, it's actually more likely we are competing with philly as the Braves will probably win the division. Plus, I'm not ready to give up on beating out the Cubs. Not until we play the Labor Day series. The Cubs are in a difficult stretch of games, and their cupcake August schedule is over. They'll have to actually earn their wins now. Maybe they do, maybe not...we'll see.
  19. I would take that but if I could only pick one, I'd say... LET'S GO PIRAAATES!!!!!!! Braves, Pirates, Padres, and I guess we probably want the Dbacks right? They take 3(or 4) of 4 from the Dodgers and stick them in a hole for the wildcard...?
  20. I also had only seen the view tmwiese is noting until now. I especially agree with the bold here, there are still plenty of other reasons it should be a strike out.
  21. Bandy is a good defender as well, but I agree with the premise of targeting the better defender. I can't imagine either player will swing the bat a ton. Maybe a few starts at most, because for some reason CC is in love with Kratz.
  22. Not yet. Definitely not before we play them over the labor day series. If they take 2 or 3 of those from us, then yeah probably time to hope they beat up the other wildcards.
  23. A fair ball is a fair ball. It doesn't matter what the batter was doing ever (as long as he was in the box). The only place it would have mattered would be to the scorer, and they call debatable things whatever they please. If the ball had missed the bat it would have been a ball because he didn't offer at it. Since he didn't offer, it was rightly called a foul. If it somehow looked like a perfect bunt that rolled foul, it may well have been called out, but Cincy would have argued hard on that one, and with good reason. So despite his bat being over the plate, he didn't offer at it? This is getting laughable...
