  1. Nice atbats, You could definitely consider having Cain bunt here. In part because he definitely could reach...
  2. Oh man, you could tell by the sound it was gone. I was about to comment how good a job Holland was doing painting the inside corner against RHB. That's what happens when you miss the inside corner to the middle...and only throw 90. Easy stuff.
  3. All 3. In my opinion, this giants team is the weakest opponent we have. If we are going to get a sweep down the stretch, it's this series. The matchup on Sunday against Bumgarner is obviously tough, let's take it game by game though. That Detroit lineup is pretty awful. That's fair, the Tigers have young up and coming players though. No crazy good prospects, but still young...trying to crack the 2019 roster. The giants have more veterans, much more likely to coast the last month at this point. There's definitely an argument to be made for the Tigers though.
  4. I would have found it weird a week ago when we were within a game of like 6 teams. It makes more sense now that we've pulled away significantly from the Phillies and are 2 games ahead of the NL West crowd.

  6. 20ish games left, absolutely not. Following that Cubs series feels like an appropriate time to start doing that.
  7. I'd argue the 2nd set isn't quite as clear. Set one I'd go B, C, A...seems relatively obvious. Set two is less obvious, but I personally like C, A, B. For me B is a distant 3rd. A has more K's and slightly better whip than C...but significantly more runs allowed. Depending on what stats matter more, C and A are up for debate and generally pretty close.
  8. [sarcasm]Perfect. Sit Yelich.[/sarcasm] Nah, just have him hit RH.
  9. I could get on board with this, though I'm a touch concerned by Moose getting such little playing time over the last few days. Would be nice to keep his AB's more regular. Shaw has had the same issue. But I also see Holland has a 791 OPS allowed vs RHB and 463 OPS against LHB on the season. Those are some wild splits. Load up the RHB.
  10. Holland has had 1 start of giving up more than 3 runs in the last 3 months. It seems it would be a rarity if we were able to get to him today. For lineup I suspect we'll see Cain, Yelich, Aguilar, Braun, Moustakas, Schoop, Shaw, Pina, P. I would probably adjust the 3-7 spots to be Braun, Shaw, Aguilar, Moose, Schoop if I could...stagger the lefties and slide Aguilar to a more appropriate spot. I doubt that actually happens though. One stat of note, Manny Pina has an 1.120 OPS over the last 30 days. He hasn't played a ton, but when he's played...he's hit. Not sure why Kratz is starting more than him, especially considering Pina is by far the superior defender.
  11. Yeah it was a good game overall. We get a day off and our best arms should be well rested. Cubs have to play at 6 pm central time in DC tomorrow...and used most of their best relievers. It's all cumulative, maybe the Nats can take 2 of these and help us close the gap a bit. They still have a very very good lineup...
  12. I really hope the Cubs go with Schoop in the 9th. A Brewers position player pitching to Brewers position players? Just tell him to throw 24 straight balls. Hahaha, Strop*****
  13. So in the 9th, if the Cubs go with Schoop...I assume we would definitely see Thames/Shaw/Yelich in some order right?
  14. CC looks like a Wizard. Little do we all know, Yuni B was secretly signed to the active roster and will be unleashed in the 9th inning with 2 outs.
  15. I actually don't love this move...if he doesn't get Bryant then he has to face Schwarber, and I don't like that matchup at all.
  16. Oh man, I was doing work on my computer and heard the crack...heck yeah!
  17. Nice inning by Burnes. Would be nice if Arcia could shtoink one somewhere for a PH.
  18. And that's really what he's here for. Bat 4 or 5 in the order and rack up the RBI's. Yelich and Cain are getting on base at crazy clips...
  19. Most pitchers aren't 6'5'' 280lbs There is literally 0 reason for him to head home down 5 with no outs in the inning. A 0.1% risk is too much risk...
  20. That's one. I'll be happy if we can get that second run in this inning. 6-3 with 3 innings left. It's Braun on base, shouldn't take much to score him...
  21. Mostly the day off tomorrow I assume. Let Burnes pitch 2 innings and see if we can mount some sort of comeback...gives us a better chance to comeback if the bats are up to it. I don't blame Cubs fans for cheering that one. Well hit and sounded good. Just not quite enough thank goodness...
  22. This game is still far from over. 5 innings over. It looked like we are going to Burnes, hopefully he can hold the Cubs for a couple innings and the bats can get going. Third time through, and eventually we'll get to a fairly shaky pen that's had trouble throwing strikes this series...even their big guns like Edwards and Cishek have struggled there.
  23. Yup, base runners on for our best hitters...and Perez.
  24. I generally agree with playing matchups, it's a smart thing to do. Fact is, Jennings simply isn't executing. They need to start using Cedeno in those spots, not Jennings. But again, you can't disagree with the logic of playing matchups. Literally every manager in baseball does it...
