  1. Whatever you have to do to win this game, I don't care if it means calling on a starter, we can call up whoever we want in 2 days. But yeah I really don't know what the right answer is here or who is available. Barnes is not my first choice, but he's not my last. Barnes was great after his last callup. somethng like a month without a run before he fell apart. if he's been killing it down there and looking good I'd go home over Albers Kratz should pitch over Albers, not even in blue. Perez can catch...

But yeah I really don't know what the right answer is here or who is available. Barnes is not my first choice, but he's not my last. I tend to agree. I'd like to see Hader face votto if he's due up. Maybe piece the 9th together?
  3. Right, hard to call this do or die...but it's probably the case with our pen situation.
  4. Soria sounds good, my next question though is who closes the game if we get a lead? Would Jeffress or Hader? I doubt it. Will be interesting to see how this plays out...I hope we get the opportunity to see what would happen.
  5. In hindsight certainly would've been the way to go. I guess the thinking behind it was that with Burnes pitching yesterday, they wouldn't be looking for multiple innings out of him anyway. And had he gone 15-20 pitches he would've been out, making the double switch pointless. Then again, they don't lose all that much from doing it, unless the plan was for the next pitcher to go multiple innings in which case you'd have to let him bat or make another double switch, this time weakening the offense by bringing in Arcia. My fingers are crossed that it's Barnes. No Brooks or Albers please...
  6. I feel like teams have learned that Thames can't hit low inside sliders, and he also can't lay off them...
  7. So with Burnes due up 3rd and certainly PH for, who comes in next if we don't score? I doubt Hader or Jeffress are available. Soria is likely the closer and will pitch if we get a lead. That leaves Barnes, Brooks, and Albers. I guess I'm hoping Barnes
  8. I think his leg might have gone through before the tag was applied because Kratz had to backup to give himself a decent hop to catch it on. They also might have called him safe for blocking the plate as well. The throw took him over there but his leg was back and then he stuck his leg in front of the plate and didn't give him a clear path to slide. I may be wrong, but the catcher does not need to give a clear path to slide if he already has the ball correct? I thought the catcher was allowed to block the plate if the ball was in the glove well before the runner got there. I know they need to provide a path and can’t block it if the throw is still coming in, but Kratz had it well before the runner got home. I believe you are correct. As soon as he gets the ball he can block the plate.
  9. If you square around to bunt, see the ball screaming right at you, try to turn/dodge/duck/whatever, but the bat stays in the zone, it can easily be interpreted as not intentionally trying to bunt. You WERE trying to bunt initially, but you changed your action to trying to avoid being hit. As I said in a previous post and as other have mentioned, the intent is up to interpretation, but it is certainly easy to see how a bat could be in the zone, yet the batter isn't intentionally trying to bunt. I do see your point, but doesn't that scenario seem wildly ridiculous? How can you be squared to bunt with the bat in the zone and not actually trying to bunt? If it's in the zone, you are in the act of trying to bunt. Black and white. Just like if you swing the bat and try to stop, if the bat crosses the zone...it's offering at the ball and is a swinging strike. I really don't see an argument to the contrary. Otherwise any batter that ever bunts foul for strike 3 can argue they changed their mind at the last second and it shouldn't be strike 3. The real problem is the rule needs to be re-written to avoid the types of interpretations many of you are making.
  10. This is a simple smart way to look at it as well. I've probably come down from initial take of 'worst call ever' type view to at least seeing the gray area. But even looking at it this way I still think K because he just didn't get the bat back quickly enough. Agreed with tmwiese. You are in the act of intentionally trying to bunt the ball, until the bat is pulled back out of the zone. I don't see any possibility for an argument to the contrary...
  11. Rosiak said a catcher not named Nottingham will be called up on Saturday. We'll definitely have to open a 40 man spot for him.
  12. He might get to 4 or 5 if he gets through innings quickly. I'd suspect 2-3 is more likely, maybe a 4th. They're moving him into the rotation but he hasn't really been stretched out. Maybe they let him go up to 50, maybe even 60 pitches. Fair enough, seems reasonable.
  13. If a batter is trying to pull the bat back they are not intending to meet with the ball. In a normal situation of a swing, if the player tries to stop his swing but can't...it's a swing. I see no difference here. If he tries to pull the bat back but doesn't, he's still in the act of intentionally trying to meet the ball...until the bat is back out of the zone. Otherwise the guy can easily argue upon bunting foul that at the last possible moment, he mentally wanted to not bunt and it should not be a foul bunt.
  14. So Cody Reed is a reliever. Do you all expect a straight bullpen game here from the Reds? I can't imagine this guy goes something like 4 or 5 innings today...
  15. The reason I consider it, not much different than a check swing. If he didn't offer at it, then it wouldn't be an intentional attempt. So let's say he pulled the bat way back so it would have been a ball had he not made contact...if the ball struck the bat in that position, it would no longer be an intentional attempt to bunt and could justifiably be ruled a foul ball. That's not the case though. Here, he has the bat in the bunt position over the plate...he starts trying to pull it back but in fact does not, so it remains an intentional attempt to bunt and should be an out. I think you have to assume it remains an intentional attempt to bunt until he actually pulls the bat back. Trying to pull the bat back does not equal pulling the bat back.
  16. The guy writing this article appears to be dumb. Just because he was trying to pull the bat back doesn't mean it isn't a bunt attempt. The bat was clearly over the plate, so he offered at it.
  17. You're right. This discussion only applies to the camp who say "I hate for him throwing the collector under the bus who did nothing wrong", which likely isn't correct. Someone in here made that type of comment which led to this. Doesn't change that Braun did the crime And that's the big difference between him and someone like Melky Cabrera or Johnny Peralta. But again, I completely disagree that he threw Dino under the bus...that's a media narrative that Cubs fans are running with because they as a whole are ignorant.
  18. No way, I doubt MLB would want that. They likely need the samples from the days they demand at the times they demand. If the collector doesn't do so you would have to wonder if he got paid off by the player, which would be painfully easy to do. MLB didn't have a problem with how he handled it, he had done it that way many many times. Braun's lawyers found a loop hole essentially that MLB didn't predict ahead of time a player could use it as an out. If MLB didn't want the samples handled that way they wouldn't have changed it after the fact to allow such handling to be acceptable in the future. I generally think the wrong thing is being argued. I have a couple Cub fan friends, and all of them have a problem with him holding the press conference as he did where he gloated about getting off the hook and supposedly threw Dino Laurenzi under the bus. This is their issue much moreso than the cheating. I try explaining that he was always going to have to make some sort of statement on the matter based on how much it played out in the media. He could never just remain silent, and he also wasn't going to come out and say "yeah I got off on a technicality. And he certainly wasn't bashing Dino during this press conference. So for the most part I think people hating on Braun is much more from ignorance and blindly following the media than anything.
  19. He did not send it out the day he should have, he did not store it properly, he waited longer than he should have to ship it on Monday. This guy blew it at every chance. That is why the arbitration was won. This guy did blow it at every chance as noted and made a lot of general mistakes in how he handled not being able to ship the day he was supposed to.
  20. MLB fired the arbitrator (Shyam Das) that cast the deciding vote to overturn Braun's suspension. I couldn't find anything about CDT firing Dino Laurenzi. This is honestly far more bush league than anything Braun did. Fire an independent arbitrator because he didn't rule in your favor. If that isn't fascist I don't know what is...
  21. Both the Reds and Brewers bullpen are completely in shambles. It would be nice if we weren't without Hader, Jeffress, and probably Williams tomorrow. But I defintely get your point. I really hope it gets noticed. I hope those clowns feel stupid when they watch video.
  22. My reasoning on Moose is he looked the most tired of the guys I didn't list in my opinion. Guy can't start every game, especially after playing 10 inning and having to play again in just over 12 hours. We'll see though. I also wonder if Pina will hit the DL and we bring up a catcher.
