  1. If pitchcast is accurate, the Cubs have been getting calls like friggin crazy too. Kemp, Grandal, and Roberts were all ejected arguing calls...yet those same pitches are balls when Cubs are hitting. It gets old seeing this game after game.
  2. I’d ride him as long as he is pitching well though. If he is pitching well you probably take him out eventually so he can go to the bullpen. Which honestly with the stuff he has I wouldn’t be surprised if he is limited to possibly be in the bullpen down the stretch. Could have a big impact. I wonder if Peralta could shift to a bullpen role to close out the season. If he could bump his already plus and incredibly deceptive fastball a couple mph, could be quite the weapon. At the very least, I could see that being the case in September
  3. Generally speaking, premium prospects don't get traded. I'll use the extreme example, I don't think I'd trade vlad straight up for Syndergaard if we had him. He could be a top 10 player in baseball before he can legally drink a beer in this country. This bleacher report actually seems to know a bit about our prospects. They can see that Peralta is a very good prospect, probably the best prospect in that trade. Also that Henry is likely to rise significantly up our prospects list at the midseason update. That offer is likely around a fringe top 50 prospects, another top 100 prospect(80 or so), a just outside the top 100(erceg), and Henry who plays a premium position and is on the rise. 3 likely impact prospects, and then Henry who could also be an impact prospect. That's a considerable package, especially considering the multiple impact arms in the deal, but I'm not sure I'd offer that for Syndergaard with his injury history. Syndergaard in general is so tough to value due to his upside and injury history.
  4. You don’t like Davies? I’m a little confused on that. I miss something? That's wildly unlikely. If Peralta shows enough, maybe Suter shifts to a swing role. But Davies is locked into the rotation.
  5. I like that Perez is in there batting 5th. He has excellent career numbers against Taillon. Thames in RF seems weird, he can't have a better arm than Yelich can he? I doubt the Pirates hit any doubles today...singles, triples, HR only.
  6. I think Logan was given an appropriate amount of time to figure things out. He unfortunately didn't get it together. Logan did not hit any of his games/innings incentives, so he only costs $1.875M on the season and a $0.625M buyout for next season. I'm sure we were anticipating him costing closer to $3-5 million this season, so a bit of cost savings we can hopefully use to add at the deadline. This also clears salary for next season.
  7. Brinson ranked #21, not number #16. My understanding is the trade was basically Brinson for Lucroy and Ortiz for Jeffress...with Cordell thrown in as a sweetener. I get the Realmuto is better than Lucroy, but you are saying we need to give up a prospect better than Brinson, a prospect as good as Ortiz, and a young upside high pick OF for Realmuto? That's probably double what we paid specifically for Lucroy, Realmuto isn't twice as valuable as Lucroy..not even close. Hiura is a much safer bet to be successful in the majors, with probably 95% of Brinson's ceiling. Brinson was also coming off injury and a down season at the time of trade while Hiura is healthy and on fire.
  8. This would probably be my max offer. An offer that easily could be beat but I just don't think it gets beat. On a side, I highly doubt MLB is filled with GM's that are hanging up on each other left and right. I've seen it referenced how someone would quickly hang up on a bad offer. I actually suspect far more initial conversation is done via email/text than over the phone anyways.
  9. Bahahaha, between the Nationals and the Rays...someone should tell these front offices that drugs are bad for you. Realmuto is definitely more valuable than Lucroy was at the deadline, but the gap between the Lucroy deal and Robles/Soto...it might as well be the grand canyon. I wouldn't trade either one of those guys for Realmuto if I'm the Nationals. As for this offer, just no. Hiura is not getting moved for Realmuto, I wouldn't make that trade straight up. I think Burnes or Peralta would be a good enough centerpiece, probably the best one they'd get. Nottingham would be likely to go back to the Marlins in any Realmuto deal.
  10. That feels a bit light. I'm not sure they value Aguilar all that much, though maybe they do allowing them the ability to shop Bour(or Aguilar).
  11. I don't know about that. Right now the pen is this team's strength in my opinion. They are and can continue to be even more so by adding to it. I want Seth Lugo and put him in that long man situation. He’s a guy that can come in and give you 2-3 innings no problem. I suspect we'll make a move for a starter, and between that and Nelson potentially coming back...I think Lugo would be redundant as we have Suter for that role. I like the idea of bringing back Swarzak, but not adding $8.5 million of payroll in 2019. Payroll is going to be a problem next year, adding that $8.5 only makes it tougher to navigate the offseason.
  12. I don't think that's a good idea, especially this year considering the luxury tax cap. In a normal year, that still reduces the teams to maybe 5 or 6 that can take on that contract. I'm not sure a team would pay that contract for 2 months of machado...regardless of the prospect return. You could try to attach maybe 5-10 million in bad contracts to machado if money mattered, but not Davis.
  13. You cannot compare any trade that's ever happened in baseball to that. Pure desperation to maximize their chances of ending 108 years of losing. I have a hard time believing 2 months of Mike Trout would cost more in prospects. We're about a month away from desperation setting in with multiple teams. If you're going to trade one of the top relievers in baseball and possibly your most valuable trade chip at this time of the season you better be getting quite a haul back. If this was the best offer available on July 31, then so be it. But if it's the middle of June and you're offered a potential 4th outfielder and a fringy 3B, you gotta hold out for something better. Yeah there's definitely a gap between the Cubs move and this move. I'm not that familiar with the prospects, but based on their ranking it still seems like a good haul. Herrera isn't Chapman, he's not even close to Chapman. His peripherals are not on par with his ERA, he's due a bit of regression.
  14. Definitely a steep price but it is far less than what the Orioles would be expecting for the return for Machado. Giving up Woodruff and Peralta would hurt but if you said this would be the package it would take to get Machado last year it would have been laughed at even during the off season. I believe the Orioles are looking for more but I just don't see a team out there that is going to give up more than one top 75-100 type prospect for Machado. As long as the offer for Machado exceeds their compensation draft pick, the O's will take the best offer out there. It's as simple as that. I don't think any team dealing for him as a rental has any greater shot at him when he becomes a FA. The FA market for him has lots of variables. Most of the big market teams are wary of exceeding the luxury tax threshold as it gets more punitive if exceeded in consecutive years. As for his trade market, the AL playoff teams look virtually set right now so none may see the need to unload top prospects for a bat. That leaves teams in the NL West and Central as most likely bidders. The Dodgers seem the most likely destination. Taylor's been decent for them at SS, but he can move to OF if Manny joins Dodgers. The comp pick value is likely meaningless, he'll go to the highest bidder...the bidding should absolutely be higher than comp value pick...and if it isn't then he damn well better be a Brewer. I see the Cardinals, Brewers, Dodgers, and Braves(3b) as likeliest contenders with the Phillies and possibly Dbacks as potential fits as well for Manny. And with Manny, there are really only a couple teams that couldn't shift someone around so Manny could play full time for 2 months.
  15. You cannot compare any trade that's ever happened in baseball to that. Pure desperation to maximize their chances of ending 108 years of losing. I have a hard time believing 2 months of Mike Trout would cost more in prospects.
  16. This feels like if we gave up 2 prospects in the Diplan/Gatewood/Stokes territory of our rankings. I think this is a pretty good haul for the royals, but I wouldn't call this an insane overpay. They are also getting him over a month earlier than normal, so it's not apples to apples with other rentals. I wouldn't want the Brewers to pay that much for a reliever, especially considering we don't really have a spot for a reliever...especially when we upgrade the rotation and Suter becomes long man.
  17. Agreed, I can assure you hea hader wasn't trying to throw that pitch there. He never throws low fastballs
  18. At least we got to their bullpen, but we basically have to scorein the 8th. We aren't scoring on rivero
  19. For Syndergaard, I really don't think that gets us close. I'm not entirely sure Hiura + Burnes is enough of a centerpiece for him. 3.5 years of control for arguably the filthiest arm in all of baseball. Then again, I think it's going to be difficult for many teams to come up with a package significant enough in my opinion to be equal value to Syndergaard right now. I personally don't think Syndergaard moves, I don't see an offer coming through that would incline them to move him now...and if they move him for a lesser package it probably will be because they don't trust his health and want to get value now.
  20. Are you referring to me specifically? I'm pretty sure I only hit on one of the three in this specific post. Also I think a good number of posters don't find the Cubs model to be stupid. I think it's fair that Cabrera doesn't do much more for us than Miller/Villar/Perez, and if he is hobbled then maybe we simply avoid him. It's probably the best potential match with us though. I can't see us adding an OF bat or a reliever, and they don't have much else beyond that and their 2 star pitchers.
  21. I think there's a massive gap between Syndergaard and Degrom. I've seen what some people think Degrom is worth...and if they are more right than I am, I can't even imagine what the ask would be on Syndergaard. The Brewers are probably between 6 and 10th best farm in baseball depending on the source, and I can't imagine the Mets letting him go without getting a significant major league piece along with most of our best prospects. I simply don't have any interest in doing that. With that said, the likely ask severely limits the number of teams even capable of making the move...the Mets will likely be asking some of the top farms in baseball to give up most of their best prospects for 3.5 years of a potentially elite yet injury prone pitcher. I'm super curious how a trade would look if it happened, though my guess is between the Mets front office being generally terrible at executing trades to put it nicely...and the value/asking price involved...Syndergaard or Degrom don't get dealt. I fully expect they deal Familia though, virtual guarantee...though probably not to us. Maybe the Cubs can offer the rest of their farm for him, and we can counter with Gatewood and trump their offer. I actually think the Cardinals and Indians are serious players for Familia. For the Brewers, I could see looking at Cabrera...though I don't think we want him at SS. And with Villar playing better at 2b he may not be a fit aside from replacing Perez/Sogard on the bench.
  22. I think these are both good targets, as noted specifically because their acquisition cost will be between trivial and zero. Heck it's absolutely possible we don't even have to cover their entire remaining salary on trade. Of the 2, I think I'd take Iglesias so we don't have a drop off defensively...and it's actually possible he's currently a better defender than Arcia(at least more consistent). Having an elite defender in the club house for 2 months may be beneficial for Arcia's development, and going the rental route similar to last year with Walker will give Arcia a chance to work hard in the offseason and win his job back for 2019.
  23. The one that bugs me the most is not using Hader in the 7th. I can understand it a bit based on PH, switch, and RH batter coming up...but top of their order is coming up and I'd rather Hader face their best hitters even with a switch and RH hitter than Williams. And it generally can't be that simple. Baseball isn't a one size fits all type of game. We put up 4 runs on Nola and chased him in the 5th...that has to speak volumes of how well we were seeing the ball yesterday. There was more good hitting/approach than bad pitching which led to that result.
  24. My biggest frustrations in this game were CC generally giving up on the game in a couple instances. If instead of Jennings/Houser, we got Hader or Barnes in there...we might win this game. The Brewers have shelled this bullpen all season, it isn't unreasonable to think we'd keep hitting them well...especially the way the ball was flying yesterday. It shouldn't be a simple formula of "use these relievers when losing...use these relievers when winning", and that's what it felt like yesterday. Really a shame to waste that offensive performance
  25. It's so hard to handicap what Machado will go for. It's 2 months of a guy, but there's so much history of teams giving up a haul for the premium upgrade...even for 2 months. I could see the Dodgers giving up someone like Ruiz or Diaz as a centerpiece with another good piece added, maybe Alvarez. That seems insane on the surface as both guys are doing very well at a young age in AA, but that's just how the deadline goes. I don't think we'll see an insane overpay like the Chapman deal, but the deal I noted above would still be quite the overpay.
