  1. The most likely realistic answer here is neither. Both appear headed for north of 25M per and probably north of 150M overall. Most likely we ride out the team control and watch them pitch for the Yankees or Red Sox in 3-4 years.
  2. The gamblers seem to think 3 guys are varying degrees of frontrunners for the CY Young at this point...
  3. I will be interested to see how many of these tier 1 teams make the CS. Obviously a max of 3 can make it since 3 of 4 are in the NL. I'm excited for some October baseball.
  4. Weird that my most fond memory of Braun will be the applause he got after returning from his suspension...and all the national sportswriters being completely appalled by our fan base. Aside from that, one of the sweetest swings a Brewer has ever had...especially his opposite field stroke. He seems to be enjoying his time with family and I'm certainly happy for him.
  5. I saw a bit of Wily early in the season. He throws a changeup now and throws it a considerable amount of the time. I doubt hitters were all that ready for so much changeup from him the first month or so of the season. My guess is scouting caught up to him and he's back to a replacement level pitcher at best.
  6. Agreed. I could see them potentially activating him sooner but not having him play 9 full innings for a bit. Definitely need him to get some atbats against fresh pitching before he starts facing Scherzer, Fried, Gausman, etc.
  7. We only play 2 games before Friday. Even if we win both, still would need 3 losses in 4 days from the Reds. Certainly not impossible. I would prefer we clinch while at home. It's just a little more fun that way. Clinching on an off day just feels wrong.
  8. Part of the reason Winston was throwing the picks, he had Evans and Jackson at wr. Both those guys are good for deep balls, Winston naturally took quite a few chances throwing deep passes to those guys and it resulted in a fair amount of ints. This offense will run much differently, his number 1 job will probably be to get the ball into Kamara's hands one way or another. That type of skillset doesn't require as much talent as throwing the deep ball consistently well. Also not many coaches are better offensively than Payton, I think Winston will be asked to do less than he was in Tampa and it will work out well. All that said, hard not to like GB this week. No Brees, no Thomas. Stack the box and force Winston to beat us. On offense, I think we move the ball with ease both running and passing. I think this one will be more or less over by middle of Q3.
  9. I don't want to see JBJ with a bat in his hand for this team ever again. He's an 8th inning defensive replacement, and if he needs to bat in extras or something we can have Woodruff PH.
  10. I don't mean to jinx anything here. I assumed Lauer/Houser would piggyback for a game 4. Nothing against Houser or anyone else, but if the current trend continues Lauer should definitely start game 4 if not sooner. He's been our 2nd best pitcher since the all star break.
  11. Correct, too many games in a row coupled with Joe Maddon as your manager is a surefire way to wreck a bullpen...
  12. We need to twist the knife on these guys. If not for strategy reasons to keep a notoriously annoying team out of the playoffs, then simply because screw the Cardinals and their world class whiner that plays catcher
  13. Relatively unrelated to the Brewers, there's an enormous series this weekend in SF as the Dodgers are visiting. Obviously way too early still for the team winning 2 of 3 or better to be a clear frontrunner, still a big series/opportunity. Also, just noticed looking at the Giants schedule, 10 of the Giants last 19 games are against the Padres. Also, the Brewers close the season against the Dodgers. Those games could be meaningful for multiple reasons. The Dodgers could still be fighting for the division, and we could be in a fight with Dodgers for best record and home field advantage. I wonder if we were 1 game back from the Dodgers heading into the series, if the Brewers would be inclined to rest players for that series in preparation for the playoffs or if they'd start players as normal and play to win. Will be interesting to see if that scenario plays out.
  14. Maile! Good idea to challenge the newly promoted catcher. Not this time though...
  15. It makes sense to me, he didn't pitch yesterday and we're trying to win obviously. Go with your best. Yeah, I get it. Just wondering if they'd also use Harder for the ninth. That's fine if they would. I don't mind aggressively going after wins. Just assuming they have much better rest analytics than my injury-paranoid gut. Oh I see, you thought Williams would be acting closer role today. Yeah it'll be interesting to see if Hader pitches. He pitched 2 of the last 3 games but only threw 14 pitches i think yesterday. We're the away team so my guess for the 9th if still tie would be our next best aside from Hader, probably boxberger or honestly I don't know beyond him.
  16. It makes sense to me, he didn't pitch yesterday and we're trying to win obviously. Go with your best.
  17. You don’t want it stiffening up! Oh right, did Schroeder mention how it's the best it's going to feel all game yet?
  18. It would be nice if our hitters could give Lauer a bit more time to recuperate after his play to end the inning. 2 outs on 6 pitches so far...
  19. According to gamecast, the last 5 pitches haven't even been close. Wonder if he lost mechanics a bit...
  20. Well either Webb is super sharp, or the Brewers are punting this one. Or both.
  21. I was looking over the roster today, I'm not in the details as much as many of you guys so I'm hoping you might have answers to a couple questions that are better than what i could find in a google search. 4 tight ends, I understand 3 of them. Who is this Dafney guy and what is he good at? Is he more blocker or more receiver? I found 4 tight ends on the roster to be weird so I'm curious his purpose. Also, I feel like ILB has been a problem for this team forever...like since Nick Barnett was actually good. I recognize Burks and I thought I remember him being decent last year, but he's not listed as a starter on the depth chart. How are we looking as far as ILB? Campbell and Barnes, how good are we thinking they'll be?
  22. The best part is Castellanos had apparently already given the bat to a kid, so the umps had to take it back to inspect it. The MLB.com story said they also did a replay review of the home run to see if there was something on the bat that helped aid the home run… which doesn’t seem to make much sense. Mike Shildt [and the entire Cardinals operation] is just weird. Question, what are the things that could have changed the outcome? What exactly were the umps/cards looking for? Is a cracked bat a thing in baseball?
  23. My understanding was aside from AAA to MLB, the biggest jump was going from high a to AA actually. Each jump is certainly substantial though.
