  1. The first games of the NLDS aren’t until Saturday 10/4. I wouldn’t think they’d want any of the pitchers to go too long without throwing a few innings. Plus, they will need the starters to cover a few innings to keep the relievers from throwing too many. The final game on Sunday might feature 9 pitchers throwing an inning each.
  2. The Reds are suddenly in a plum position for the last wild card spot. They’re one game behind the Mets and one game ahead of the DBacks and hold the tiebreaker over both. Plu,s, after playing the Cubs tomorrow they have a home series against the Pirates before coming to Milwaukee for the final weekend. The Mets have road series next week against the Cubs and Marlins while the DBacks finish with the Dodgers and Padres, who are still fighting for the division title.
  3. Just saw that Dodgers catcher Will Smith, who has been out with what they thought was a bone bruise on his hand has now been diagnosed with a hairline fracture and may be out for at least the start of the playoffs. Hopefully Contreras won’t follow that path.
  4. Wouldn’t it be ironic, and a little annoying, if in one of their best seasons the Brewers lost the season series to both the Cubs and Cardinals.
  5. You think all I do on this board is “ride Murphy (sic) jock”? You must have me confused with someone else.
  6. No reason to expect it. There is no reason to think Monasterio would produce significantly more than Ortiz if you look objectively at his career numbers and what he has done in all games as a starter this year. But I know we can look forward to you making the same comment every day.
  7. Hopefully the Brewers can find a way to solve the mystery of Miles The Magician Mikolas. Other teams seem to be able to do it.
  8. Tigers lose a ninth inning lead and Guardians win first of a DH over the Twins. Guardians have gained 9 1/2 games on the Tigers in two weeks by going 13-4. Only 3 of the games they gained were from head to head wins.
  9. A playoff roster should have more reliable arms that can fill that role. We don’t know who will be healthy and available, but any of the spot starters should be able to do that.
  10. I really don’t see any role for Misioroski on a playoff roster. I can’t think of a situation where you could trust him.
  11. On the subject of teams making up a lot of ground in a short time, who has noticed the Guardians, who trailed the Tigers by 11 games on September 4, winning 9 out of 10 to pick up 4.5 games. Then following that up with a 3 game sweep over the Tigers to cut the lead to 3.5 games. They still have another series with the Tigers next week.
  12. Announcers do,say things like that, but it’s worth noting that the Brewers are 15-0 since August 1 against the only teams they have played that were not in playoff contention when the Brewers played them. So, the Phillies going 6-0 in those home games is not hard to imagine if they are going all out to win. The Brewers will probably have to win some games, maybe as many as 4 or 5, to knock off the 6 games still left in the magic number to top the Phillies.
  13. They roughed him up pretty good in June and last Saturday he gave up 2 runs in only 5 innings.
  14. An unexpected bonus game tonight as a friend was in town and we went to the game. Now 10-2.
  15. Hopefully the Reds will win today to keep their fading playoff hopes alive. Maybe they can give the Cubs a fight in their four game series.
  16. I think some people have trouble making the distinction between being “fearful” of something happening and recognizing the possibility that something might happen, even if that possibility is very small
  17. I do not assume that the Cubs winning is inevitable. I would just prefer that the Brewers stop opening the door and inviting them to make a move. The Phillies have already taken advantage of that opportunity to cut a 9 game deficit to one and a half games. The Cubs haven’t made as much progress but we can’t assume they won’t.
  18. I was merely correcting the poster who said they would have to go undefeated the rest of the way.
  19. The biggest question for that game is whether the Pirates will score a run to give Skenes and the Pirates bullpen a chance to win.
  20. Thank you for the tutorial, but I know it’s baseball and I know that bad teams win games against good teams, I did not say that I demand, or even expect a sweep, just that I will be disappointed if they don’t get it. I’m sorry if that’s considered unreasonable. I am enjoying the last part of the season. It’s fun having games that you can look forward to every day that have a bearing on reaching goals all teams have. There have been many, many years where that wasn’t the case. But, when the team is in prime, position to get a first round bye it would be pretty upsetting to cough it up, and over to the Cubs no less. BTW, your arithmetic is wrong. If the Brewers finish 6-6 the Cubs only have to go 11-1 to win the division. I’m probably more concerned about the Brewers part of that equation. If they don’t win the Angels series they would have to make that up against better teams.
