  1. Not everyone is willing to say “hey, if they blow a 6 game lead in 5 weeks they don’t deserve to win and it won’t bother me.”
  2. I’m not going to completely agree with you, and I recognize that a lot of what you say is more hyperbole than anything else. But I do have two specific expectations for what’s going to happen in the last 5 weeks of this long season. They are based on the current state of the Brewers and the remaining schedule. The first is that when play ends on Thursday, September 4 the Brewers lead in the division will be less than 6 games. If I am wrong on this one the Brewers will be in great position The second one is that at some point, hopefully not by September 4, the Brewers lead in the division will be down to 2 games. A combination of the Brewers returning to earth after their incredible run of 2-3 months and the Cubs recovering from their corresponding tepid streak makes this seem likely to me. I guess we’ll find out if this is pessimism or a valid observation based on processing several decades of baseball data.
  3. The Brewers need: 1. Turang to be able to play and hit without handicap by Monday. If his wrist is sore I wouldn’t be surprised if they give him another day against a tough lefty. 2 Chourio to come back early next week and take no more than a couple of days to be productive at the plate. 3. Monasterio to shake off his pivotal error and play at least decent SS. I don’t want to be holding my breath on every routine grounder to short wondering if he can make the throw. 4. A couple of starting pitchers going 6 or (gasp) 7 innings so they can win a couple,of games without needing 4 relievers to finish. 5. A couple,of hitters to get hot so the Brewers can get back to scoring 5 or 6 runs per game with some degree of consistency. It would really help to get a few runs early in the game to take pressure off the pitchers. 6. Pray that the Cubs don’t start hitting and scoring like they did in the first half of the season.
  4. If it’s not going to matter to you one way or another if the Brewers win the division there is no reason to be concerned at all. But, if some things don’t change soon this division lead is going to be very tenuous by Labor Day. After the Giants the Brewers are going to be playing 3 of the top scoring teams in MLB and they aren’t going to win many games getting 4 or 5 inning starts and struggling to,score more than 2 runs. Having a SS with throwing yips won’t help ,either If the Cubs get their mojo back on offense they could easily run off 8 or 9 wins in 10 games and eat up most of that 6 game deficit.
  5. He doesn’t have to be IL’d to get Patrick or Gasser. I assume he will be optioned and that that was the plan all along.
  6. We were at the game tonight. On both SB while we were still there the jumps were so huge that Johnny Bench on steroids would have had no shot.
  7. He got hit in the wrist. Not in the head (aka “bean”) If some people have a pet peeve about spelling, one of mine is referring to every HBP as a “beaning”.
  8. Not surprised to see Bauers at 1B tonight. Maybe.he can bring out the home run bat (3 in 19 AB) he had in rehab.
  9. I was wondering if Turang, Monasterio, and Megill would be having any after affects from their meetings with balls last night. I wouldn’t expect to be seeing Megill for a third straight day anyway . With Webb on the mound our perfect record for the season will be facing a stern test
  10. Maybe the thinking for tomorrow is to start a lefty and hope he can go 3 or 4 innings and then follow up with Meyers instead of starting with a RHP if those 2 guys can cover 6 then you can see what kind of game you have and go from there.
  11. I would still rather be playing the Rockies and Nationals than the Blue Jays and Phillies. The advantage the Cubs have over the Brewers in schedule strength is most pronounced in the next two weeks as the Brewers finish with the Giants (vs Webb and Ray) and then play the DBacks, Blue Jays, and Phillies. Meanwhile the Cubs finish with the Angels, then face the Giants (no Webb or Ray), Rockies, and Braves. Contreras said after the game last night that the team is a little tired. With no off days until the day after Labor Day (in the middle of the Phillies series) this is going to be a big test.
  12. Yes, Megill got a blown save when he gave up the 9th inning HR to Arcia and the Rockies went on to win in extra innings. So, the Brewers are 3-2 in the 5 games in which he was charged with a blown save. The other blown save was last Saturday night against the Reds. That was a cheap one because he only allowed the free runner to score to tie the game. The Brewers went on to win in the 11th.
  13. Who,pitches the 10th now? They’ll have the top,of the order with Devers and Adames lurking.
  14. They have starters the next two days who consistently cover 6 or 7 innings so they can afford to use a lot of pitchers tonight.
  15. Not the start the Brewers needed with a taxed bullpen, a struggling offense, and two All Star pitchers coming the next two days.
  16. Barring another injury or something I don’t think Hoskins will be ready before September 1 Then he will be a candidate to be the extra position player added to the roster. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both Hoskins and Bauer on the roster with Siegler the odd man out. No need to worry about it now as something might happen that makes it a non issue
  17. It’s still possible to talk about the game and upcoming series and their impact on the playoff race instead of totally off the field issues like the financial structure of MLB. It is also possible to start a separate thread if you think that subject hasn’t already been covered.
  18. It’s very disappointing that the front office didn’t recognize the hole an injury to Ortiz would cause and pick up a good fielding major league SS to use as a backup.
