  1. The Brewers are now Dont kid yourself, he’s still making the decisions.
  2. By the end of the night the Brewers might be tied with both the Cardinals and Phillies. The Phillies start a 4 game series against the Nats, the first of 11 games they have against them the rest of the way.
  3. If nothing else make it harder for him to hit to right.
  4. I guess Rogers is below Bush on the pecking order. Might have wanted him pitching to Reynolds and Gamel.
  5. Why didn’t the Brewers trade for Gamel? They could have picked up a few wins just by keeping him off the Pirates.
  6. Just click on the little arrow next to your screen name and go to “Ignored Users” on the drop down list.
  7. I was not thrilled about Renfroe bunting. He’s supposedly one of the team’s best hitters so why not let him take a shot.
  8. Get ‘em on, get ‘em over, leave ‘em stranded.
  9. Back to back HRs from Gorman and Goldschmidt and a double from Arenado to start the 7th and the Cubs lead is all but gone. ETA: 2 fly outs to the warning track in center tie it up.
  10. Not only have the Pirates been beating the Brewers but they have been coming from behind to do it. The Brewers formula of scoring a couple of runs and then having the pitching nurse the runs to the finish isn’t working. Maybe against this pitching they should be scoring more than 3 runs.
  11. I saw this game a couple of weeks ago. Woodruff takes a lead into the 7th and quickly puts 3 men on. Then Boxberger comes in to give up the lead and the Pirates win 4-3.
  12. This is right where the Pirates turned a deficit into a lead the last time Woodruff faced them.
  13. The Pirates are getting good cuts and making good contact against Woodruff today. Fortunately the one was hit right at Brosseau for the DP.
  14. They have won 6 of the last 9 against the Brewers so in those games they have looked better. And they’re looking better at the plate in the first two innings today against one of the Brewers aces than the Brewers are against one of the Pirates’ bums. The Brewers sloppy play in the field continues too.
  15. I looked up Ruiz’s record, and it seems like a risk taking a player with just 29 games in AAA and 14 with the Padres and tossing him into CF in the middle of a playoff race. Maybe he would start producing immediately or maybe he would struggle like some highly touted prospects like Jarred Kelenic who hits well in AAA but has been a complete bust so far in two stints with the Mariners. The Brewers would be better off with Taylor’s production than something like that. I am not excited about the stolen bases in the short term. So far this year he is 60 for 71 in the minors, and I would expect that it’s harder to steal in MLB. If that success rate drops much it becomes more of a negative than a positive.
  16. I don’t follow the minor leaguers. Is there anything in his background that suggests that he would be likely to provide immediate value to a major league team other than as a bench player? With very little MLB experience would he be an upgrade over Davis?
  17. But he’s going for the future in a rolling way. Not in the form of a complete tear down hoping to be competitive 4-5 years from now. The Brewers know that they can’t afford a string of 100 loss seasons and expect to keep enough fans in the seats to pay the bills. But winning 85-90 games (which now gives a team a pretty good shot at making the playoffs) while also keeping some familiar players for the fans to relate to will draw enough interest.
  18. I’m not going to hope the Brewers miss the playoffs, but I will have to say this game doesn’t upset me like they sometimes do, I really think that the deadline moves made me feel like Stearns doesn’t think the team is a serious contender to go far either, so he’s looking more to the future and being satisfied that the team figures to be in the playoff hunt until late in the season. If they can squeak into the expanded playoffs that’s a bonus, and anything after that is gravy. I think he realizes that, no matter what he can do within reason, the Brewers would be big underdogs against teams like the Dodgers, Braves, Mets, and Padres. So there’s no reason to sacrifice being competitive in the future to chase a long shot at advancing as far as the World Series.
  19. Schroeder made a comment during the game about how it might take Counsell some time to establish roles for the revamped bullpen. He didn’t mention that it might take time for some pitchers to adjust to new roles too. Maybe trading an All Star closer at the deadline isn’t a good move unless you plan to just plug someone else into that role. Williams reaction to the Hader trade was that it didn’t make sense to him, not “Oh good I get to be the closer now.” Maybe it will take some time for him to adjust.
  20. And then Caratini takes one off the neck on an HBP.
  21. Is Narvaez injured now, just after Severino was DFA.
