  1. With good reason. Not much confidence in Payamps these days and Megill’s luck with the 400 foot fly outs might run out some day.
  2. Hopefully this lead lasts longer than Friday’s.
  3. Who said exit velocity is everything?
  4. There’s Frelick doing what he needs to do with RISP.
  5. This is like the kind of series the Brewers have often had in Pittsburgh that starts a skid. The opponent seems to be putting runners on base every time you look up.
  6. Good start for the Brewers offense.
  7. The Cardinals are cheating today. It’s in the 6th inning and they have the same pitcher in. I didn’t think you were allowed to do that. Maybe it’s OK when he has a perfect game going.
  8. No luck on Webb shutting down the Cardinals. They have 3 quick runs in the first to support their ace.
  9. So Contreras gets a needed day off opening up the 2 spot in the batting order. Does he put Ortiz there to maintain what seems to be a desire to alternate LH and RH hitters? No, he puts Black there to make it 3 LH in a row. Not that it makes a big difference, but it’s hard to figure out the rationale behind these orders some times.
  10. It sounds like you would disagree with the poster who took offense to my comment that exit velocity isn’t everything. I think what bothers me most about Frelick is that for a hitter without power he seems too often to swing hard and pop up when just getting his bat on the ball and spraying it (more in line with his abilities and strengths) would be more useful. I also think he is at best an average fielder with a below average arm. I am looking for more from a RF, especially a RF batting 5th.
  11. So, in other words, if you had low expectations for Frelick in the first place, he’s doing OK. I never worry about roster crunch because something always happens, whether it be injuries, trade opportunities, or whatever. Piecing together all of the pieces like salary, service time, etc. is a complicated process that I am more than happy to leave to the highly paid professional general managers and their staffs. But, if Frelick being a regular 3B is in their plans, I reserve the right to complain about that.
  12. Hah.Just checked the score. Way to pad the stats.
  13. Looking like the tightening of the division race that we knew had to be coming is upon us. The Brewers pitching is on life support while the offense continues to struggle. Not looking forward to another western trip the week after next.
  14. I guess we won’t hearing for awhile that Turang has ONLY been thrown out X number of times.
  15. Heaven forbid they cover the Fox MLB logo.
  16. You don’t realize how much you rely on that score box. I often have the games on while I do other things so I don’t always know the exact situation. When I do that I’ll glance up to see the count, outs, and baserunners situation. If I want to do that tonight I’ll have to keep the MLB app open.
  17. At least the Reds lost. The Cardinals are playing well and are chipping away.
  18. Burleson may be a butcher in the field but he provides power that the Brewers don’t get from their OF. A 2 run and 3 run HR today. After the Brewers beat the Cards for the 6th straight time on the day before Mother’s Day, who would have guessed that the Redbirds would have the best record in the NL over the next 6 weeks.
  19. I think I might lose it if they have Frelick hitting 5th and Ortiz 8th again. I usually don't fuss too much about the batting order because in most cases it doesn't matter that much. But putting a light hitter with minimal power in the 5th spot makes no sense when there are better options to place behind the team's best hitters. I think the value of religiously alternating LH and RH hitters has its limits. Personally, I would put Turang and Ortiz 1-2 against a RHP to increase the chances of getting at least one speedy runner on base ahead of the middle of the order. After Yelich I would put Contreras 4th and Adames 5th, but I don't see Murphy doing that. Having Frelick 5th highlights how badly this team needs a better LH hitter with some power to plug into that part of the order. Maybe they will be able to get someone like Santana to fill that role. Or maybe Mitchell could do it. but he hasn't been able to stay healthy long enough to know what he can contribute. Or maybe Black would fit better there when he plays I wonder if Frelick is playing as much as he is because they're giving him a chance to show that he deserves to stay when Mitchell comes back. There isn't room on the roster for all of Mitchell. Chourio, Perkins, and Frelick, and Frelick seems to me like the one who provides the least value.
  20. Maybe trying to keep runners out of scoring position and hoping for a two run HR.
  21. A downside to putting a weak hitter in the 5th spot where you might expect runners.. Would have liked to have Ortiz there instead of surrounding him with weak hitters.
  22. You can avoid stacking without literally going LRLRLRLRL. Putting a guy with an OPS of .650 fifth is bad enough to start with, but to me it’s absurd when you have someone with an OPS of .850 hitting eighth.
  23. Back to tonight’s game. The obsession with alternating lefties and righties is puzzling to me. I’d much rather see Ortiz higher in the order than Frelick.
  24. The Brewers have to be hard to predict or project because they are relying so heavily on players that don’t have much of a major league track record.
