Just thinking that myself. Santana is just screwed at this point. Until he isn’t. It’s a marathon. The more and more I keep watching, you just never know what the hell is gonna happen. Yep, someone at some point will need a DL stint most likely. That's why I actually think he should be sent down to get more AB right now. Even a guy like Broxton can be serviceable as a pinch runner/defensive sub even for a couple weeks.
If he's jawing at Cain the benches would have cleared. Cain never stopped talking to the ump to even look at him. Don't think he was "jawing" at all. He's showing some emotion, you are following Cardinal level of unwritten rules by complaining about that...
There's also the fact that we don't have a hit but Counsell is the real problem. Not just Counsell, but his pitching management.... In a year where pitching has been far from the issue.
https://sports.yahoo.com/ghost-spook-cardinals-p-carlos-martinez-bad-start-vs-brewers-144104558.html Claims there were ghosts in his Milwaukee hotel room. I think he's got more than control issues on the mound...
You're making me want to go check the Cards boards. Pretty tepid. I’ve been living in stl for about a year, and so many are just done with Matheny. Tonight has to be a low point. Bases loaded, nobody out is just the cherry on top. Read some. There was a 2 page argument because people couldn't understand if you DL a starter you can call up an extra reliever. Guy asked "but who's going out of the pen" like 5 times... I got dumber reading it. The term Blowzuna was used... Hope it sticks... "Dumbest, most unauthentic roster ever assembled " "Get rid of Martinez" Some good stuff...
He struck out 29 % of plate appearances last year, 32 % this year. Not a huge change, the irregular AB could cause a small change like that. The lack of power this year makes it more noticeable/less tolerable.
The last game he had more than 1 PA and 0 K was May 22. He has 20 AB the entire month. That has to make it pretty hard to stay sharp. Hasn't done anything to earn more though, so catch 22 I guess. A stint in the minors might be needed just to get everyday AB for a couple weeks straight.
Each Sogard at bat is me before each work day, "well, this is going to suck, but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised." No pleasant surprise, but on a positive note, it was a sort of deep-ish fly ball.
Just to be sure... Say Sogard stinks... Sogard stinks. The anticipation of Sogards next AB is killing me.... and I've never anticipated a Sogard AB ever!
I would guess bump everyone back. Suter has actually been throwing very well lately. We also have had an unusual run of deep starts, quite a few over 100 pitches, guessing the extra day would be good.
Pina set up about a foot off the outside edge on a 1-1 pitch. Knebel hit the glove and was 2-1. Seemed like they gave away what most view as the most important count. It was never going to get a swing that far off. It’s all good I guess, got the W.
