  1. I believe this is the second straight day that the first six spots in the Carolina lineup are occupied by July 2 (or whatever the current equivalent is) signings. I wonder if that has ever happened before for a Brewers A ball affiliate.
  2. Nice to see every batter reaching base for Biloxi and Valerio continuing the power uptick from last season, Bello and Cipion getting off to fast starts in what is likely a make-or-break season and the Nashville pitchers holding Durham without an extra base hit.
  3. I don’t know the technical definition, but it seems like a slightly more honest way of dealing with roster overages than the old standbys of phantom IL placements and paper demotions to rookie league teams.
  4. Remember when Jackson was both an outfielder and the Mariners' No. 1 prospect at the time of the Lind trade that netted Peralta? Good times .. good times. I guess I can understand it, but I kind of wish they had acquired a cheaper AAAA player to restock AAA depth. I'm not a big Cantrelle guy, and that AA infield is filled to capacity, but I'm still not sure it is worth trading him for a guy who is probably Luke Maile with a better story.
  5. While Howell is an intriguing prospect, if they were going to give up someone from that tier, he'd probably be the one I'd prefer. They are deep in the outfield and at his best infield position (2B) and the strikeout rate is concerning. And Caratini is definitely a step up from some of the other names available.
  6. I think there is a better chance given the roster machinations the Brewers are presumably having to do at AAA that he, at the risk of being glib, came down with a bad case of thirdcatcheritis. It sounds like he is a quality defender, but the offense hasn't been great and he has reverse splits so he wouldn't be the best option to spell Narvaez against lefties.
  7. Man that guy could fly. Shame the first thing that popped into my head was the winning run a lot of people wish he hadn’t scored.

  11. Is it vaguely suspect, sure, but only because all of the excuses are. Chances are the first thing you do is talk to your regular doctor (possibly his but likely hers) and after that hopefully go to the specialist. Nothing about that part of the story would make me any more suspicious than the baseline of suspicion I have in all these cases.
  12. It was pretty clear from how they used them in the minors that the Brewers viewed Hummel as a get you through the end of a game catcher and Fry as maybe a get you through a 10-day IL stint catcher. Neither would have been an option here.
  13. Outside of catcher, that lineup is absurdly deep. You could make a case for 10 out of the 11 infielders and outfielders being among the organization's top 50 prospects and even the one who wouldn't be, Devanney, is vaguely intriguing. Also, with Uribe, Erceg and Vennaro, there is some big time velocity in the bullpen.
  14. For a team whose pitching staff I believe might have tallied a total of three points in the prospect poll that just ended (and that only because I like trying to predict pitching breakouts) the group of Cornielle, Figueroa, Jimenez, Puello, Rodriguez and Segura make this staff very interesting even if it could also be rocky at times.
  15. While the one duplicate entry might mean that one of these players is actually on the Wisconsin or Carolina roster, but the only three real surprises on the pitching side were no Zhao in Wisconsin or Carolina and no Brailin Rodriguez or Jakob Brustoski in Carolina. Kudos to Segura on earning a full season spot. Did not see that coming before the exhibition lineups started coming out. On the hitting side, biggest surprise is Luis Silva being listed as a catcher. Is that a misprint or are they playing him there now?

  19. I still would have predicted be would start in Wisconsin, but Counsell's comments kind of hinted toward this. It feels more like an affirmation of prospect status like Mendez's placement in Carolina than a sit up and take notice shocker like if they have Chourio skip the ACL altogether.
  20. Wonder if Zhao starts in Carolina or, with the AFL experience under his belt, if they move him up to Wisconsin.

  22. Last year I think it was 28 at the upper levels and 30 at high A and A. Haven’t heard if it changed, That is still 10 over the limit, though.
  23. That is … a lot of players. I wonder if some of them are IL bound
  24. Ditto. It has done a good job with its shifts from incredibly sincere to incredibly creepy (that's what the waffle party is?!)
