  1. A few days ago, I would have been right there with you in terms of my expectations on a return for Luc/Jeffress. However, after seeing the deal that was supposed to go down with Cleveland for Lucroy, I don't think there is any way we get this type of return for both guys. If I had to guess right now, I would say that a Luc/JJ package would probably net us: Gallo, Guzman, Jurado and Morgan. I would love to swap Mendez into this deal in place of Jurado or Morgan, but I doubt that would happen. The fact that we were originally going to get a borderline Top 100 player in Mejia, and then two "OK" prospects from the Indians really tells me that the market just isn't where we all hoped it would be for Luc. So, if we were just trading him by himself to Texas, I'm guessing we'd probably get a package of Mendez, Guzman and Morgan. Throw in JJ, and that probably motivates Texas to up their offer to Gallo (even though I'd probably prefer Mendez) and then they add in someone like Jurado. Just my opinion based off of what we now know is Luc's value on the market.
  2. Can someone more in the know tell me about this Gabriel Garcia kid? Looks to be mashing in the AZL Rookie league as an 18 year old. Is this kid a legit prospect or is he just having some beginners luck?
  3. I don't understand what this means? Are they saying that Lucroy is the "significant piece" and teams better pony up, or are they saying that another team has made them a "significant offer" and you better put your best offer on the table right now or else you'll get left out?
  4. No Lucroy in the lineup today. Let the speculation begin! I'm sure they'll say that it is the "day game after the night game" day off, but I'm sure they also don't want to risk him getting injured today - and this will give them a day and a half here to maybe strike a deal before they'd have to play him again.
  5. If I recall, Phillips was ranked in the 40-50 range at the time of the trade last year, and Santana was still in the rankings (hadn't quite graduated yet) in the 80 range - but he obviously graduated from the rankings during the 2nd half of last year. So, we did get two Top 100 guys at the time of that trade last year for Gomez/Fiers. Hader was the high upside guy that hadn't quite reached that level yet.
  6. Hard to fully gauge what a realistic return is from Cleveland, but I'll take a stab at what I'd like in return if I were Stearns: For just Lucroy: Frazier or Zimmer, Mejia and McKenzie If you add Will Smith into the deal as well, then add in either Bradley or Sheffield and 1-2 other high upside 18-19 year old kids that Stearns usually tries to pick up in deals. Then again, what do I really know? I could be completely way off in my expectations.
  7. Ha ha! That's comical. So, the Tigers (who have one of the worst farm systems in baseball) wouldn't have to give up any of their Top 6 prospects according to MLB.com (of which, none are even in the Top 100) in a deal for Lucroy. Once again, these opposing fans are being absolutely delusional. Honestly, The Tigers could offer up their Top 5 prospects for Lucroy and I'm not sure if I'd even be satisfied with that deal?
  8. Rosenthal reporting that the Tigers are one of the teams talking to Brewers about Lucroy. Do they honestly have any prospects in their system that would be worth our time?
  9. What?? No thanks. If we are giving up all of those guys to Boston, they better also be throwing in Moncado in the deal.
  10. Since Boston is all-in right now, how about: Devers, Kopech and Basabe for Lucroy And if they want Jeffress involved in the deal as well, then we ask for Benetendi and an additional 18-19 year old lottery ticket pitcher. I'm guessing they want nothing to do with giving up both Devers and Benetendi, but you have to give up a lot to get a Luc/JJ package deal.
  11. What would the Brewers need in return from the Nats for Jeffress? I like their Top 5 prospects, but they definitely don't seem to have much depth in their system.
  12. So, are you suggesting that we trade Lucroy AND Smith for Santander, Mejia, McKenzie, Hillman and either Allen/Lugo/Wakamatsu? I'm sorry, but personally I don't think that is enough. Maybe I'm completely off base here, but if you aren't getting either Zimmer/Frazier in the return deal for 1.5 years of one of the best catchers in baseball along with a few years of one of the better LH relief pitchers, then Cleveland better pony up with a bigger haul and Bradley better be a part of that. For Luc & Smith, I'd personally want (again, if Zimmer/Frazier are off table) Bradley, McKenzie, Mejia, Hillman and then one of their teenage kids that Stearns seems to target in most of his deals. Again - maybe I need to reel in my expectations here, but I just think that a Luc/Smith package deal should net a bit of a bigger return package than what you suggested.
  13. Honestly, I'm probably more intrigued with some of the Rangers prospects that aren't at the top of their rankings. Tavares, Mendez, Jurado, Demeritte, Guzman are all guys that I'd probably be more interested in targeting from the Rangers. Of course, if I'm DS I'd still probably want to have a "centerpiece" in the deal, in which case you'd probably want to get either a Gallo, Brinson, Tate or Ortiz.
  14. So, what would does everyone think it would take to get a deal done with the Braves? I know they have some good young arms, but it appears that many of them are struggling a bit this year. Could you get a package of Allard, Riley and then one 18-19 year old high upside kid in return? Is that enough value for Lucroy, or would you need more from the Braves?
  15. Who's Scott Bartell? Is this a beat writer with the Braves? Never heard his name before.
  16. I think I'd probably pull the trigger on this deal if it were offered by the Indians. Mejia is going to be a Top 100 prospect heading into next year, McKenzie and Hillman are young with big upsides, and Kaminsky/Kreiger look to have some upside as well. The only thing that I might ask for if I were Stearns is to replace Kaminsky with Clevinger - who appears to be more of a sure thing. If we are trading away one of the best catchers in baseball along with Will Smith who is probably a Top 10 LH RP in all of baseball, I think we need one guy in this deal that is more of a "sure thing" - and with Clevinger putting up great numbers at AAA I would consider him at least a guy that will eventually be a #3 rotation type guy. Would the Indians give up Clevinger, Mejia, McKenzie, Hillman and Kreiger for Luc and Smith? My guess is that they probably wouldn't want to give up that many guys who all have good upside. But, if we aren't going to get one of their top 5 guys Zimmer, Frazier, Aiken, Bradley or Sheffield - then I think we'd have to get a package like this.
  17. With all of the issues going on with the Dodgers and their starting pitching, what would it take you (if you were DS) in terms of an offer to trade either Nelson or Guerra?
  18. What's a realistic return from the Giants for either Jeffress or Smith? I'm guessing that the Brewers would need one of Bickford/Beede/Shaw, right? Then, I'm assuming we'd want at least one other high upside 18-19 year old lottery ticket type prospect - and maybe two of those type of guys. But, it seems like the Giants don't have a lot of those prospects in their system, as most of their top prospects are older (23 and up). Is it safe to assume that the Giants wouldn't give up one of Bickford/Beede AND a Chris Shaw for either Jeffress/Smith? Neither JJ/Smith are rentals, so I would assume that our asking price would be higher because of that. But, is that unrealistic to think that we could get two of their Top 10 prospects?
  19. With the rumor that we had discussed a Nelson/Espinoza swap with Boston, do you think the Dodgers would have any interest in a Nelson/De Leon swap? They appear to still need SP help, and Nelson would probably be very reliable for them in a #3 type role in their rotation. Or, would the Dodgers probably balk at this offer since De Leon is close to being MLB ready (unlike Espinoza in the Boston proposal).
  20. Good call on Braden Webb. I actually did consider him (and should have put him on my "others considered" list), but I left him off due to the fact that he hasn't pitched an inning yet of minor league baseball. But again, probably should have had him on the list of other guys that I considered for my Top 30.
  21. Yeah, I suppose DS could target Profar if it helps to get a couple of the younger guys that he covets in their system - and then use Profar as a trade piece to package with one of our relievers to get even more young talent from another team. But, I guess that's the only way Profar makes much sense for us.
  22. DS constantly preaches that he is looking for controllable talent, so I can't imagine that we are really targeting Profar in any deal with Texas. He only has three years left of control, which doesn't fit with our next potential window for winning. Just doesn't make a lot of sense based off of what we know about DS and his philosophy. Now, if Melvin were still GM, then yeah I could see Profar being on the table.
  23. Here's my crack at a current prospect ranking. I decided to go with a Top 30 though to keep it consistent with some of the other rankings out there. 1. Arcia 2. Hader 3. Ray 4. Phillips 5. Clark 6. Ponce 7. I. Diaz 8. Diplan 9. Lara 10. Nottingham 11. Medeiros 12. Erceg 13. B. Woodruff 14. F. Peralta 15. J. Lopez 16. D. Williams 17. Orimoloye 18. C. Burnes 19. Gatewood 20. M. Harrison 21. T. Taylor 22. Kirby 23. M. Feliciano 24. Coulter 25. Derby 26. M. Diaz 27. D. Magnifico 28. T. Williams 29. Rijo 30. M. Reed Others considered: Houser, N. Walters, C. Herrera, Ventura, Supak, Roache, Cooper, Demuth, Wilkerson, Mallen, Yamamoto, Leal, Perrin, Johnny Davis, Wang, Archer, Segovia, P. Henry, McClanahan, Sibrian,
  24. IMO, any Top 25 list needs to have Brandon Woodruff on it - and I'd probably put him around #15 on my list right now. Despite some early struggles at AA after the promotion, he is flat dealing now in July and was topping out at 98 last night. Overall though, a pretty good list. Not sure if I'd rank Devin Williams that high, and I'd probably pull Roache off the list when adding in Woodruff.
  25. And...wouldn't it be ironic if the Indians were our trading partner for Lucroy, considering it was these two teams that struck a major deal back in 2008 when it was the Brewers that were in desperation to finally make it back to the postseason and sent a big package for CC. Desperate teams will sometimes do things that they normally wouldn't do, and may even overpay to get what they need to put them over the top. Let's hope we find a desperate team here in the next couple of weeks (maybe it's CLE) that pony's up a big haul for Luc.
