  1. Thanks for the heads up on Woodruff now showing up on AA Biloxi's roster. Surprised we haven't heard anything official yet from the organization (unless if I missed it?). Lane Grindle just posted his latest blog posting, and has some very encouraging comments about Woodruff (and did mention that he's now at AA). Starting to get more excited about this kid! Here's the blog posting: http://minordetails.mlblogs.com/2016/05/17/catching-up/
  2. I'm really quite surprised that Woodruff hasn't been bumped up to AA yet. I'm assuming that they are probably just waiting for one of the rotation spots to open up at Biloxi first? Do we think that Hader will get the bump up to Colorado Springs at some point here (this really scares me by the way!), and then Woodruff will get the bump to AA to fill his spot?
  3. Good call on the Werth no-trade-clause. Yeah, no way he approves a trade to a rebuilding Brewers team. Well, I guess that throws a major wrench in my "we'll take Werth off your hands" to get a better prospect return idea.
  4. Am I completely off base for wanting more than Werth (obviously just a throw-in and salary dump), Turner and Baez for Braun? I realize the PED history and the nagging injuries in recent years, but I think he's proving this year that he's still one of the best hitters in baseball when he's healthy. I know Turner is highly regarded, but is a 2B really the cornerstone piece that we want back for Braun in a trade? Is there any realistic way that the Nats might be willing to part with Giolito? I see that he's off to a bit of a so-so start in AAA this year, so maybe his value is going down a bit? How about: Braun and either Jeffress/Smith (if he comes back healthy) for Werth, Giolito, Baez and Anderson Franco. Is this an absolute pipe dream? Nats fill a huge hole in LF and provide much needed lineup protection for Harper, while also getting a power late inning bullpen arm that is controllable for awhile. We get our potential TOR starter (may not be a top priority for the Nats now after signing Strasburg), and then a couple of young high ceiling/low floor teenagers. Of course, I'd gladly exchange those two teenagers for either Tuner or Robles, but I realize that is probably taking it a bit too far!
  5. I see that mlb.com just updated their Top 30 International prospects for 2016 today, along with predictions on where each will sign: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016?list=int Can anyone give a quick run-down on how this whole system works? I understand that their is a spending limit each year, right? And, if a team goes over that limit one year, do they lose the opportunity to sign guys the following year? I guess my big question is: why wouldn't the Brewers just go all-in this year or next year on the international market since we are saving money with our big league payroll being down as much as it is, and our investment in the future right now? I know Mark A is still trying to run a profitable business, but it just seems like the Brewers should try to capitalize on this international system and over-sign for a year? What am I missing here? I admit that I do not have a full grasp of the system, so perhaps I'm way off base.
  6. For those that know a lot more than I do about this: would we really pass on Groome and Pint if either were available at #5? To me, this seems crazy. I know that teams get scared with prep arms, but aren't these two guys by far the most talented players in this year's draft? You'd have to draft one of them if they were available at #5 if you were the Brewers, right?
  7. Can someone tell me when spring games start on the minor league side? And, will there be updates available on all of the games?
  8. Anyone see this trade proposal that Bleacher Report posted today: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2606816-mlb-trade-ideas-based-on-offseason-week-10-news-rumors-and-speculation/page/3?utm_campaign=tsipad&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=teamstream As much as I love Luc, I don't think there is anyway we are getting three Top 100 players from the Rangers. I think we'd be lucky to get two of those three Top 100 guys, and maybe a couple of rookie ball guys in their system that might have some upside.
  9. Appreciate the input. Again - just throwing this trade idea out there to get some conversation going. The Twins obviously could be an ideal trade partner with their need for a catcher, and the fact that they appear to be heading into a "win now" mode. Not to mention, it would appear that they have a pretty good farm system. In your opinion, what would be a realistic package in return for Lucroy and Smith? Honestly, I really don't have much interest in getting Plouffe - but I thought he could at least bridge a gap for us at that position until we can get an internal option ready at that position. I also realize that trading Lucroy would just open up another big gap for us at the catcher position, but we're eventually going to have to face that problem anyway, since it doesn't appear that we have much at that position in our system.
  10. Ultimately, yes I see us trading him in the next year and a half for another prospect or two. However, we also have a need at the MLB level right now for a 3B - so this would help solve that issue, while also getting us two legit prospects from the Twins at positions of need. I hear what you are saying though. If we can trade Plouffe in that deal for a Berrios or a Tyler Jay, then sign me up for that instead. But, that seems like a pipe dream to me.
  11. I posted this in the other "Twins" thread, but what about this deal: Brewers get: Trevor Plouffe Max Kepler Kohl Stewart or Nick Burdi Twins get: Jonathan Lucroy Will Smith Gives us another year or two to develop a 3B internally, we get our 1B of the future in Kepler and we get a good young arm that we can take our time with. Twins get one of the best catchers in baseball as they are ready to win now, and a good bullpen piece.
  12. Now that it appears the Twins are getting Park, it appears that they may need to find a home for Plouffe - and they also still need to find a catcher. If you were both teams, would you do a deal like this: Twins get: Jonathan Lucroy Will Smith Brewers get: Trevor Plouffe Max Kepler Kohl Stewart or Nick Burdi I'd love to have Berrios, but I don't see anyway the Twins give him up, considering that they need good young pitching and Berrios appears to be close to being ready. So, is this enough for Lucroy and Smith? Not enough? We'd have a 3B with pop locked into our lineup for the next few years, a young 1B who could be ready towards the later part of this upcoming season (after Lind is traded) and a nice young arm that we can take our time with and hope is ready by the start of the 2017 season.
  13. If we can get a legit Top 100 pitching prospect that projects to be a #2 guy in a rotation for Parra, please sign me up right now.
  14. Is this the type of return that we should now expect for Parra? Both Zobrist and Parra are F/A's at the end of this season, and Parra is having a better year than Zobrist is for the A's. Both guys can also play multiple positions and are good defenders. That Manaea kid was their #3 prospect coming into the season, so I'm guessing he was a fringe Top 100 guy. Not sure on the Brooks kid. Should we now expect a similar return for Parra, and be disappointed if Doug can't at least get equal value for him from another team? Or, should we expect more or less in return than the A's got with Zobrist? Just curious what others feel.
  15. I'd love to get Walker and Paxton in a deal, but why would the M's give up 2/5 of their current starting rotation when they are trying to make a run at the playoffs? I know that you've added Fiers into the deal, but is he really going to be an upgrade over Walker or Paxton? Maybe he would be a slight upgrade over Walker at this time, but that is even questionable. I think we'd probably have to hope for a Walker, DJ Peterson and perhaps a high ceiling A-ball player in return if we were giving up Lucroy. Might be too much to ask for, but Lucroy should bring back at least 2 big prospects IMO, and Peterson isn't exactly tearing it up this year, so there is some risk there.

  17. I apologize in advance if this is buried in another thread somewhere, but have we heard any recent reports on Taylor Williams and his injury situation? Has he basically been shut down for the entire season, or can we expect to see him somewhere in the last month+ here for some appearances?
  18. With Gordon going down with what looks to be a serious injury, does KC become a good trade partner for us with their eyes on either Parra (most likely), Gomez or Braun (least likely)? I would have to think a guy like Parra would be generating a lot of interest right now. Who wouldn't want a guy with his LH bat that can play good defense at all three OF positions.

  20. I don't know how the International signings work, so can anyone "in the know" give me a quick rundown on why they don't have a draft for international players? Seeing teams like the Dodgers and Cubs (and other bigger market teams) clean house on these international players each year just doesn't seem very fair. Are they close at all to changing the rules regarding the signing of international players? Could the Brewers be more aggressive in this market, but choose not to because they are cheap? Are they trying to avoid some kind of tax for going over a spending limit that bigger markets aren't afraid of? Thanks in advance. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of all of this.
  21. Ohhhh man.....the memories of photo night. running around the warning track to get to your favorite player. Great memories of going to that game numerous times as a kid. Yes, I'd love to see them bring that back. Although, if done today, I'm sure they'd do it somewhere outside of the actual field of play.
  22. Now that we pretty much know we'll be drafting in the Top 10 (probably Top 5) of the 2016 draft, I'm curious to know how good that draft class is projecting to be? Can any of the draft experts give us some insight on next year's draft class? Is it going to be one of the stronger classes, weaker classes or middle of the road?
  23. For all of you Madison area Brewer fans, I wanted to make you aware of an event coming up on December 17 where Rick Schlesinger will be speaking. The event is called Icons in Business and being put on by In Business magazine. Rick will be speaking on the "business" side of running the Brewers and all of the lessons learned helping to lead this "iconic" Wisconsin brand over the past 12 years. Should be a very interesting presentation, and a good opportunity to come out and meet Rick and learn more about the real business side of running a Major League Baseball team. If you are interested in registering for the event, you can do so here: http://www.ibmadison.com/In-Business-Madison/Events/Icons-in-Business/
