  1. I think he'll stay. Sending him down does not clear up any room on the 40-man roster.
  2. Are you sure? I thought a DL'd player can only be replaced with a someone a part of the organization on August 31.
  3. Note to Brewers offense- please stop giving the pitching staff 3-run leads. The numbers are getting embarrassing. They pitch better when you only give them 1 or 2 runs to work with. (I don't know this but it would be a nice research project for someone.)
  4. Kelly Stinnett called up by the Cardinals.
  5. Also among the September call-ups: Brady Clark (Padres); Julio Franco (Braves); Jose Capellan (Tigers); Kane Davis (Phillies); Royce Clayton and Craig Breslow (Red Sox); and Chad Moeller (Dodgers). By the way, what a bad pitching matchup in the Arizona/Colorado game tonight- Dessens v. Eveland. Dessens rocked in the 2nd, 7 runs in 1.1 innings, Eveland did a bit better lasting until the 3rd- 5 runs in 2.2.
  6. Not only a rookie, also only his 2nd major league game.
  7. Buchholz has a no-hitter in his 2nd major league start.
  8. Clay Buchholz is one out away from history, if anyone wants to catch the last out...
  9. "My every year or two estimate appears to be way off. A quick run-through at Baseball-Reference.com comes up with this list of position pitchers who pitched for the Brewers:" I was also looking, and couldn't find any others. But if you look closer at the 3 players that pitched in 1979, you can find out they all pitched in the same game, August 29, 1979. The Royals were leading 13-4, still batting with no outs in the 4th inning. The Brewers had already burned 3 pitchers. Sal Bando takes over on the mound, allows the 2 inherited runners to score, plus 2 more runs, but gets out of the inning and settles down, pitching 2 more hitless innings. Jim Gantner comes in for the 7th, gives up a couple hits, and Buck Martinez pitches the 8th, giving up a run on a hit and walk. The Brewers lose 18-8.
  10. Mike McClendon is starting the first game for Brevard.
  11. Seems like a panic type move to me, but who knows maybe the kid is ready. Monroe's fairly similar to Mench, stats-wise. I would think he'd have decent value. Plus the Tigers have Thames who I thought was playing well. Maybin has only played in 6 games above Single A. Monroe is making over 4.7 million this season. Link mlb.com
  12. I think the brewerfan.net FAQ, draft section should re-do the definition of "draft and follow" to reflect the new rules.
  13. I don't know what happened with Boston, but Clark now has signed a minor-league deal with the Padres.
  14. I'm sure MaasHaas will be along shortly, but meanwhile... Nashville wins 8-3, and Huntsville scores 3 in the 9th to pull out an exciting 8-5 victory. Helena gets shutout on 3 hits, 6-0. Player of the night would probably be Alcides Escobar, 5 for 5 with a triple and 3 RBI for Huntsville. (By the way, I heard he is a cousin of Kelvim Escobar, Angels pitcher. Did we already know that?)
  15. I thought I remembered Dickie Noles being his own PTBNL, but that MLB didn't allow it and made the Tigers give the Cubs more compensation. Baseball-reference.com calls it a loan: September 22, 1987: Loaned to the Detroit Tigers by the Chicago Cubs. October 23, 1987: Dickie Noles returned to the Chicago Cubs by the Detroit Tigers as part of earlier loan.
  16. Brevard scores 3 late runs to win 3-2. Good pitching, just enough hitting. Shut down on 2 singles through 6, they come up with 4 singles and 3 runs off the bullpen in the 7th. Despite pitching well in each of his 5 starts with Brevard, Brae Wright can't get a W. Box score Game log
  17. Good job DHonks- had all 7 mentioned and basically nailed 5.
  18. Brae Wright is the starting pitcher for Brevard County.
  19. Wow that's strange. So the Rangers traded the Brewers a player, then decided not only that they didn't need anything in return, but also that they would grant the Brewers a favor? Unheard of.
  20. Cubs have scored 4 in the 7th, still batting, up 9-4.
  21. The Cubs will be playing this afternoon as well, sending Marquis at home against the Reds and Livingston. Recent Brewer Elmer Dessens is starting tonight's game for the Rockies, in San Diego (Ledezma). Other notable games/pitchers that may be worth watching: Detroit (Verlander) at Yankees (Mussina) White Sox (Vazquez) at Oakland (Haren) Angels (Escobar) at Toronto (McGowan) Philly (Hamels) at Washington (Hanrahan) San Fran (Lincecum) at Atlanta (James) Other teams in playoff races: Arizona (Hernandez) at Florida (Barone) Houston (Rodriguez) at Dodgers (Lowe) Mets (Lawrence) at Pittsburgh (Armas) Who cares: Kansas City (Nunez) at Texas (Rheinecker)
  22. I'd go with the black, personally.
  23. Arizona Brewers ruin the perfect night, losing to the Arizona Giants, 11-6. Tough couple innings for reliever Adrian Rosario, but on the offensive side, catcher Ulrich Snijders with a HR and 3 hits. Box score Game log
  24. Brewers roll past Raptors August 14, 2007 Caleb Gindl homered and drove in a season-high four runs as Helena cruised past host Ogden, 8-4, on Monday. Gindl lifted a sacrifice fly in the first inning and belted a three-run homer, his fifth, in the third. The 18-year-old right fielder is batting a Pioneer League-leading .408. Mike Goetz went 1-for-4 with three runs scored and Jonathan Lucroy had two hits and scored twice to extend his hitting streak to 17 games for the Brewers (6-8 ), who have won four of five. Helena starter Evan Anundsen (6-3) allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five over six innings. Jaime Pedroza hit two home runs, his fourth and fifth, and drove in three runs for the Raptors (7-7). Ogden starter Robert Blevins (2-2) yielded seven runs -- two earned -- on eight hits with no walks and two strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings. --Chip Haunss/MLB.com
  25. POWER WIN FOURTH IN A ROW The West Virginia Power used a four-run second inning to win their fourth game in a row as they took the second game of the series, defeating the Riverdogs 8-4 on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park. For the second night in a row, the Riverdogs took the early lead. With two outs in the second inning, Luis Nunez ripped an RBI single and Mitch Hilligoss smacked an RBI double. Steve Chapman tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-run double. Andy Bouchie's run scoring single gave the Power the lead later in the inning and Andrew Lefave walked with the bases loaded to complete the four-run frame. The Riverdogs plated a pair of runs in the third to tie it up at 4-4. Joe Muich's sacrifice fly scored Kevin Smith and Chase Odenreider scored on Taylor Green's fielding error. The Power took the lead for good in the third inning on Kenny Holmberg's two-run homer. It was his 14th of the year, and his third of the homestand. Matt LaPorta smacked a two-out RBI double in the fourth inning and the Power scored their final run in the fifth inning when Andy Bouchie's groundout plated Holmberg. J.T. King (7-2) tossed four scoreless innings of relief to get the win and Paul Patterson (1-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs on eight hits over three and two thirds. The Power improved to 72-46 overall and 24-27 in the second half, while the Riverdogs fell to 66-54 overall and 29-21 in the second half. Matt LaPorta, Kenny Holmberg and Steve Chapman had two hits each for the Power. The Power will continue the series with the Charleston Riverdogs at Appalachian Power Park on Tuesday night. The Power will start right hander Alex Periard (5-6, 3.44) and the Riverdogs will counter with right hander Grant Duff (11-8, 4.18 ). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. (from WV Power website)
