  1. I didn't join Brewerfan.net to blow any Cardinal trumpets. Just swapping baseball talk and offering an opinion like everyone else. You seem to regard the Cards as some kind of baseball monolith. That's your opinion. I just don't happen to share it. OK? As far as I can tell you are a good luck charm for the Brewers, so keep posting in the forums all you would like. LOL...I know you don't really believe that. (unless you are a voodoo practitioner)

  3. If they DO make it, they won't go far with just Waino and Lynn the only plus .500 starters. Wacha will be the wild Card if he returns effective. He's had a couple of 45 pitch sessions, throwing at about 75% effort, according to him. Latest MRI was a thumbs up and he will either pitch a simulated game tomorrow or a real one for a minor league affiliate. He figures to replace Masterson/Miller in the rotation in about 10 days if all goes well. If not, there's always next year.
  4. That made me laugh out loud. Molina and fit are two words that never go hand in hand. Unless it's fit for another tattoo or fit for another corn dog. I don't know what you mean:
  5. 8/19/2012.... In Washington, D.C., play comes to a stop in the bottom of the sixth inning of the National game against the Mets when a praying mantis is discovered in the outfield at Nationals Park. The contest continues after New York outfielder Andres Torres carefully picks up the beneficial insect and gently hands it over to a member of the Nats ground crew. http://lastangryfan.com/wp-content/uploads/prayingmantis.jpg
  6. And Manny Parra on to pitch. So at what point does Neshek replace Rosenthal? Hopefully never Didn't Matheny give Rosenthal the "vote of confidence" yesterday? So, given the history of "votes of confidence," you'd guess Neshek gets named the closer tomorrow, right? MM did stick up for Rosenthal. He's determined to ignore the fact that the man has been figured out. It will take booing from the fans to get the point across. It's like Ryan Franklin and Tony La Russa all over again. Dat Dude did his usual good job in the field, but was futile at the plate. On the other hand Jay Bruce is looking like the slugger we're used to. Very dangerous again.
  7. Pirates get a couple. 6-2
  8. He would have been 80 today http://assets.espn.go.com/i/eticket/20121213/photos/otl_clemente-14_876.jpg
  9. BP is starting tonight at 2b for the Reds..... Cutch is taking batting practice swings now. He has on some kind of restraining girdle. If they bring him back they'll be sorry. Ribs don't heal in 2 or 3 weeks. Molina's playing catch. No word on when he'll be fit, but with AJ doing a pretty good job there's no urgent need to rush. The Reds' problem is Skip Schumaker playing 2B has been a near disaster.
  10. Thanks for the link. I had never understood that whole situation.
  11. Are you serious!?? Age 40! When will these teams ever learn? That reminds me...are the Mets still paying Bonilla?
  12. That means there is little for the opposition to exploit in the post season. The Brewers have proved to be the best team in the toughest division in the game for the entire year. There's no reason to think that will change any time soon. I hope your GM is scouting the hell out of KC, Baltimore and LA and RR has a game plan for the playoffs. I would suggest that he start by giving Peralta and Lohse as much rest as possible in the coming month.
  13. But they (and the Cubs) ARE a factor as spoilers. I don't know what teams the Brewers have trouble with, but the Cubs give the Cardinals fits, as do all AL teams. It's been that way for years. Only Cincy has a worse record this season. Just as it looked like Cincy had stabilized, they cough up 2 big leads and lose a double-dip to the worst team in baseball. (with no Cargo or Tulo) And the cruelest shot of all was that they were one strike from winning game 1 when their old friend, Drew Stubbs hit a GWHR. What a bitter pill to swallow. GABP will become a ghost town this week. Seven hours of baseball and their pen must be shot. It will be a quiet flight to St. Louis. McCutchen is ahead of schedule, but this 5 game losing streak is a crusher. It may force his early return. But they will most likely get back on track vs. Atlanta, who have become very easy to beat. They trail the Nats by 6 now, and the Marlins are breathing down their necks, only 2 game behind.
  14. You're right. I fixed it. This beat down of the mighty Dodgers put an exclamation point on Perry's article. I see that the Pirates are on the verge of dropping 5 in a row. Gives the Reds a little hope. They have a 1 run lead over the hapless Rockies as I type and a 2nd game later tonight.
  15. Beating up on the Dodgers goes a long way in validating that claim. BTW, who's filling in for Garza this week?

  17. Tonight he hit one off the CF wall JUST past the glove for a key hit. His next time up he poked a ball and stood there at the plate and didn't run hard until he saw that the ball would drop fair. He turned a double into a single. Had the Cards won he could have escaped critism.... but they didn't.
  18. I'm guessing most teams around the league would happily take him off the Cards' hands. Especially if they'll be selling out of frustration with him. No doubt true. But the commitment the organization made in moving Craig to make room for the kid compels them to give him every chance of proving himself. He'll no doubt be returned to the lineup tonight, and Brother, he will be under the microscope.
  19. Oscar Tavares was benched in favor of veteran Shane Robinson after OT's unforgivable base running 2 games back. With 2 outs he was on 1B when a ball was hit into the RF corner. He hesitated to make sure it wasn't caught (2 outs, mind you) and pulled up at 3B on a hit that should have been a run scoring triple. Unnamed teammates have been grumbling to local writers on the kid's "work ethic", and this latest episode was poorly timed in view of the current situation the Cardinals are in, fighting to stay in the WC picture. Light hitting Robinson's speed and hustle in the outfield and on the basepaths has been eye popping in the last two games, both close wins vs. San Diego who are also fighting for their post-season lives. Personally, I'd like to see OT gone. All he really seems to care about is hitting, and he's not raising any eyebrows there either.
  20. 8/16/1920 http://miscbaseball.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/chapman.jpg Shortly after this late edition headline appeared, Ray Chapman drew his last breath. Yankees pitcher Carl Mays' submarine spitball in the twilight was apparently not seen by Ray as he made no attempt to duck. The ball carromed to the mound and was fielded by Mays. The crack off of his skull sounded like a bat on a ball. He took a couple of steps to 1B and crumpled, mumbling in a semi-conscience state, and died 12 hours later. He remains the only Major League Baseball player to have died from an injury received at a major league baseball game. His death led to Major League Baseball establishing a rule requiring umpires to replace the ball whenever it became dirty, and it was partially the reason the spitball was banned after the 1920 season. In a tragic footnote, it was to have been Ray's last baseball season as he planned to begin work in his new wife's father's business.
  21. Yet another case of a player getting a HUGE contract going south soon after. That list is growing.
  22. The Central has been hammered by injuries, and the Reds probably lead that list. That's really opened the door for the Brewers, and I hope they can continue to capitalize on it. Barring the unforeseen, It certainly looks like the Brewers/Pirates will end up 1-2 in the Central, with the Giants and Cards battling for the final WC spot. SF has the tougher schedule, St. Louis the easiest of all Central contenders.
  23. Just another case of one umpire backing up another, or "the police policing themselves". MLB has to know that this is impossible. I would like to see the replay ump make a ruling w/o knowing what the on-field call was. THEN we would get some accuracy.
  24. 8-15-1989...In a sick event that no one in attendance will ever forget: In his second start after coming back from cancer surgery, Giants' Dave Dravecky's arm snaps as he delivers a pitch. The Youngstown, Ohio native collapses to the ground and clutches his left arm in severe pain after throwing a wild pitch to Tim Raines. It was his last pitch ever as he ended up losing that left arm. http://nbcpresspass.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/screen-shot-2013-08-15-at-11-34-02-am.png?w=320 http://www.spiritwatch.org/davearm2.jpg http://usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2011/08/dravecky.jpg
  25. The Reds took another hit: Homer Bailey to the 15 day. Already a long shot, that has to be the nail in their 2014 coffin.
