  1. The national announcers from ESPN today were singing CC's praises as far as his bullpen this afternoon.
  2. Decided to keep the game check, knowing with Perez up the game was going to be over in 30 seconds anyway. When Perez walked up to the plate with 2 outs I knew the game was over.
  3. Yes, that ump from Racine was terrible but how many times did we swing at high pitches outside the strike zone? We just strike out too damn much. I absolutely hate it when we are on national TV. We almost always lose.
  4. Unless the Cards go on an extended losing streak it's gonna be hard to catch them for the division. Our best bet is getting one of the WC spots.
  5. Yes, Shaw is great over there but it is a real head scratcher what happened to him offensively this year.
  6. One good thing is we won't have to face him this week but they have deep stable of aces on that team.
  7. How many days has it been since Yelich last hit a HR?
  8. Yes this has been an issue all season. With our pitching problems not getting timely hits has been a killer.
  9. Of course 2 might be more than we can overcome...
  10. If this will bring back his power I'm all for it!
  11. I wonder how long he'll be out with this...
  12. Why is CC so afraid of his starters going thru a line-up a 3rd time? If your pen is taxed what do you have to lose?
  13. I think Stearns has done ok. I never would have thought that Burnes and Peralta would flop so bad that they can't even make the MLB roster much less start. I would have thought someone like Jacob Barnes or Taylor Williams could step up in the pen. It just never happened. Add to this Nelson still banged up, Knebel gone for the season, Woody out for weeks with an oblique, Suter still rehabbing, Jeffress took a big step back, Chacin got hurt so he was waived and Hader has been inconsistent as hell and you have this mess. To make all of this worse is we can't score runs even when we get decent pitching. Yelich hasn't hit a HR in over a week, Cain can't buy a hit and nobody can even put the damn ball in play when we have runners on.
  14. This offense has been MIA before this series began.
  15. But it isn't just the pitching. This bunch has problems scoring runs. Yes, there have been a couple of blowout games like tonight but there have been others when the pitching isn't terrible but the offense disappears. If we aren't hitting homers we don't score. It is a minor miracle if we get a hit with a runner in scoring position with less than 2 outs.
  16. I suppose we can look at the positives here. Hader looked like his old self and we took the series. It is just damn difficult to sweep teams. Negatives? Huira has to work on his defense big time. He is botching routine throws out there. I hope we can get Yeli back to his MVP self soon (like tomorrow...).
  17. This says it all Or it could only mean the guy who pitched out of his mind in 2018 came back to earth in 2019?
  18. What is Grandal so bad at defensively? He had a bad NLCS but scouts and stats say he is a good defensive catcher. His bat is definitely worth replacing Pina. Pina is a good back up catcher, but if we was our starter at the trade deadline next year we would asking for an upgrade. I too have no problem with Grandal and I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him around unless he asks for the moon. I hope we can keep Moose too. Veterans like this in your clubhouse have value.
  19. They are quite the model aren’t they? 60-80 million payroll, ~.500 most years, 90 wins last year. To win the games they do with a 70 payroll is really astounding isn’t it? When you draft well and regularly draft high, it makes it possible to stack your team with young pre-arby talent. The Rays do some innovative things, but they also largely grow from within, and deal off pieces when they get pricey. That tends to catch up to teams that don't continue to restock young minors talent. Its a minor miracle they can do what they do seeing they can't get fans to fill that stadium except when they play Boston or the Yankees.
  20. You get what you pay for. If the architect is the right man for the job, and if there’s not a re-build undertaken, and the team in 2020 is trying to be the best team possible, why wouldn’t the team spend as much as their budget allows? Because this isn't the Price is Right, and you don't get a prize for coming as close to a number as you can. The fit and need has to be right first and foremost. They last thing I want them to do is go out and spend money just to spend it. That's losing front office baseball strategy every time. But sometimes you get what you pay for. If we want to get an ace FA he isn't gonna come cheap.
