  1. I don't think this was a must-sweep series. We can still come back today and only be back by a half game. You are right, the real issue here is the offense. Our pitching staff, with all of its warts, has kept this potent offense in check with 1 and 2 runs per game. One or two runs for us ain't gonna cut it no matter WHO we play. How many times this year have we put runs on the board in the first couple of innings and then nothing after that?
  2. Counsels just as dumb with Villar leading off - fast but can't get on base Agreed. If the guy you want leading off can't get on base what good is he? Don't you want guys on base in front of your big boppers? And sometimes when Villar does get on he makes stupid base running decisions. smh If you put in a reliever who is throwing strikes why would you take him out? Because of a match-up? Hader was being groomed as a starter so what difference does it make if he is facing a righty or a lefty? CC has done this with other pitchers as well. Often Counsell will only have one guy warming up in the bullpen. If the guy you bring out in relief just doesn't have it that day why don't you have anyone else ready - just in case? Then by the time you get another pitcher up and ready your poor guy on the mound who can't throw anything but a fast ball for a strike gives up a bunch of runs late and you're screwed. This year before the All-Star break the team was winning but even during that time period Counsell had done some dumb stuff as manager but because we were scoring left and right nobody cared. I remember when he was hired and folks cheered I scratched my head and I wondered why. Craig has never coached at the major league level and we appoint him to run the big league club? This reminded me of when the Packers decided to hire Bart Starr and we all know how that one went.
  3. Where did you hear/read this? I haven't seen any report about this anywhere online.
  4. Going into DC and hoping to rebound is a tall task to say the least.
  5. Nobody is gonna make this deal.
  6. Our bullpen has its issues but we couldn't score to save our lives during that losing streak. It was great to see Corey sharp too. Let's hope he is back to his old self for a while now.
  7. You see this at a lot of games. It is rather sad so many people are addicted to those little machines.
  8. Actually it was a great idea. Terrible execution. It might be a great idea if you have guys who can actually bunt...
  9. Why does CC keep guys in even tho everyone and their uncle knows he just doesn't have it that day?
  10. But if he can put the ball in play instead of striking out I'll take his career .642 OPS right about now...
  11. Most American bike racing fans have no use for that cheating creep Lance Armstrong.
  12. Striking out at an alarming rate and not being able to at least put the ball in play has killed us during this losing streak.
  13. Perhaps you should have typed that in blue? I figured there was enough stank on it that it wasn't needed. I don't know whether to laugh or cry here...
  14. When you strike out 46 times and go 5 for 30 you're gonna get swept. Everything the Pirates did worked and they got a lot of breaks in this series - getting seeing eye singles and great pitching for example. But when you can't put the ball in play things can go south in a hurry.
  15. You question that Anderson is a core player for this franchise?
  16. Yes, some of our core players are still in the minors.
  17. Thames needs a day (or 2) off.
  18. Perhaps you should have typed that in blue?
  19. What lead? The only thing that matters it the L column which is tied right now. Standings are by winning percentage, not the loss column. The Brewers still have a better one than the Cubs. Today, sure. But unless they can figure out why they can't score runs when they really need too this once promising season is toast before the end of July...again.
