  1. Pretty much, but I'd like to at least see them stay within striking distance until early September to keep things interesting. I fully expect the Cubs to win this division by at least 5 games at this point. But it would be nice to at least have a pennant race. Why? We aren't ready to compete with the real contenders in the NL yet. We do have a good base to build on and the guys will learn from all of this if we want to look for silver linings.
  2. Then we better not make deals with Oakland.
  3. So...people in favor of a machine aren't looking for one that just guesses? You could program the machines to blow a call a couple times a game to keep it somewhat human ; ) But seriously, if replay is acceptable why not get most important part of baseball right-wing balls and strikes. Instead of machines why not have balls and strikes reviewable? All you have to do is limit the number of times a manager can call for a review of these. Don't we want the calls to be correct?
  4. This sounds good to me. Thames has just lost anything he had earlier this season. Broxton looks lost and not having Sogard is hurting us more than we thought.
  5. That's the stat from tonight. Failure to truly capitalize on run scoring opportunities has cost the Brewers three straight games. QFT
  6. Shaw threw his helmet down, right? Did he appear to say anything to the home plate ump?
  7. [sarcasm]It appears this isn't the best umpiring crew in MLB.[/sarcasm]
  8. Is this when Santana was called out running the bases because the ump thought the ball hit him as he ran by? I didn't see last night's game but my hubby said the replays showed it never hit him at all and this kind of play isn't reviewable?
  9. The reason for caution is we've seen this before - the team looks and plays great for a period of time and then implodes spectacularly.
  10. It really doesn't matter. We are not ready yet to contend. It has been a fun ride but if we hold on and take a WC spot we are not going anywhere in the playoffs if we even get there.
  11. I believe we miss Sogard a lot. He was so great at getting on base as a lead off guy.
  12. I just posted this in yesterday's in game thread - was it smart to put a young kid in his first appearance with his new team in that situation yesterday?
  13. And if he tried to go to 2nd and he was thrown out folks would be complaining about that. 99.9% of the time 3 big leaguers aren't gonna let a pop-up like that fall to the ground. Perez getting to 1B safe like that was a gift. Its a shame we couldn't capitalize on it.
  14. Someone here in another thread said it is rather sad that the Brewers are celebrating a team that lost a World Series. 1982 is ancient history. The Packers were guilty of that crap - pining for the 60s - until the 1990s and the team began to win again. At least those Lombardi Packers actually won something...
  15. Why in the hell would Counsell put that kid in that kind of situation for his first appearance for his new team?? Counsell has done some great things this year but sometimes some of his decisions really make me shake my head.
  16. Agreed. Knebel pitched in the two games leading up to the ASG, and was not as efficient as he had been previously. Let him have the honor of being there and still get the rest he needs. I'd much rather the Cubs closer blow the game instead of the Brewers closer. Yes, if the NL had to lose that game I'm glad it was the lone Cub All Star that blew it.
  17. I suspect he was disappointed he didn't pitch last night but I'm kinda glad he didn't. With our luck he would have been injured in a meaningless game. It was kinda funny that the lone Cub All Star gave up the winning HR in the 10th.
  18. Did anyone spot Corey on the sidelines last nite during the HR Derby? I looked for him but didn't see him.
  19. I like your idea brewcrewdue. Too bad Stanton started out slow in his round. Both he and Bour were unreal.
  20. 43? You're just a kid! (I'm 20 years older)
  21. It's probably because the prospect of having Stanton vs Judge this year, which could be quite a show.
  22. The only others who could have been considered IMO are Thames and perhaps Nelson.
  23. The Cubs only have one All-Star as well. Of course last year almost all of their starting lineup was in this exhibition game.
  24. I live in southwest FL and we get all the Marlins and Rays games so I there are a few guys from those teams I root for - when they aren't playing the Crew. I'll be cheering for Stanton tonight in the HR Derby.
