  1. I agree the hitting is the problem here, but they actually won 4-3 on Friday against the Cubs. They've scored 9 runs total in their past five games. Still not very good, though. I forgot about that Cub game.
  2. By then we'll be back in 3rd place in the division.
  3. Wang DOES have 95 in him, and why does he have to be Randy Johnson or Johan Santana for him to be worth keeping? But since we want to use FB velocity to compare them, Santana had an average FB of 91.0 MPH the year the Twins kept him on their roster as a rule V draftee. I'm not sure what exactly has happened that suggests it's not worth it anymore. He's pitched in 6 games. Given up 0 runs in 3 of them which we lost anyway. Came in for Garza when he had a short start and saved the BP like a long man should do, came in the bottom of the 8th of a game we were down 3 and got rocked and then he got rocked in a close game that we were VERY unlikely to win. But lets say you're assessment is accurate. Even if he "only," has a 10 percent chance to live up to the mid first round pick that some people are putting on him(we're actually quoting Melvin). Is that not in and of itself worth it? And I'm not afraid we're going to lose Johan Santana. I'm worried we're going to lose a very talented young pitcher who MIGHT end up being a very effective big league pitcher. He's the 25th guy on the roster. He's not costing us anything and he doesn't even have to be on our active 25 man roster much longer. I'm curious what people who are changing their mind expected of him coming into the season? He's extremely raw. But he's also got a very good arm. He needs to develop, and in a perfect world, he'd be in our farm system doing just that, and we'd likely be getting very excited following him in Brevard County as a lefty who works in the low 90's, and has the potential for two good pitches. But it's not a perfect world, and dumping him now only gives a Pirates organization that has a loaded farm system another talented young player to develop. Are you referring to the game the other night in Atlanta? We were only down one run.
  4. You do realize Randy Johnson walked almost 100 batters in 160 innings with an ERA around 5 in his second big league season at age 25 right? It's not like he came up and boom he's the Randy Johnson everyone knows now. He's not hurting the team and he has the upside to become a quality starter. Keep him. He might have upside but this kid should be in the minors where we can work with him and not in the bigs getting hammered.
  5. Not only is he not getting the work he needs in the minors his confidence must be in the toilet now after getting shellacked every time he is put out there. We aren't doing him any favors with this situation.
  6. I'm not all that concerned with our pitching but our bats are still AWOL. I can understand a player or 2 slumping but not practically all of them. We scored only 5 runs in the past 5 games. You just can't win doing that and now the damn Cards are breathing down our necks. What is it about May and this bunch anyway?
  7. Really?? If we hold out a little while longer we can hide him on the DL?
  8. IMO if Wang is still on this roster by the end of this road trip will tell us that Melvin and the Brewers' brass are more interested in the future than the present. I can't imagine another club with legit post season aspirations keeping a reliever who truly belongs in rookie ball around taking up a valuable roster spot like this.
  9. The problem for Wang is he belongs in rookie or A ball, not in the bigs. I felt bad for the kid, frankly. Yes, his confidence must be in the toilet. I can understand holding onto a player like this if we were below .500. Because of our bullpen situation RR had to put Wang out there to get shellacked thus throwing away any chance we had of winning that game last night. Melvin has to decide - does he want to squander a potential playoff year by keeping this kid on the roster? Or does he send Wang down with the real possibility of Pitt taking him back. Having this young man literally rot on our roster is screwing up other areas. If he wasn't there we might have another legit arm in the pen or another bat on the bench while Aramis nurses his hammy
  10. I know. He is streakier than hell. But if he was going to get hot this was the time to do it with Ramirez on the DL and Gomez not there. Is Go-Go serving his suspension right now or is he ailing?
  11. IMO they are the worst. They talk alot but not about what you need to know or what is going on during the game. It wasn't until Luc first hit that we figured out he was playing at 1st.
  12. Its nice to see Rickie hitting but it won't last so RR should take advantage of it while he's hot.
  13. There was a delay because Roenicke was considering a challenge of that 2-out, 4th inning single. It was a liner to right that Gindl dove straight ahead for. The ump ruled he trapped it, but on replay, it looked like he caught it. Lucroy played a little delay game by going to the mound so the staff could check the replay, then RRR came out. Joe Block said he thinks RRR was denied a challenge because he took too long. There is a time limit? How long did it take for RR to come out?
  14. Well this sucks. I can't see the damn game and BSPN's gamecast doesn't tell you squat.
  15. Is there anyone in this thread right now who can see what in the hell is going on in this game? Waiting for BSPN's gamecast to show me anything is getting tiresome.
  16. Just looking at the strike box on BSPN's gamecast it appears this ump has a tight zone today.
  17. If Wily is pitching this poorly maybe its a good thing I can't see it...
  18. I see that Goldschmidt - or whatever his name is - got another homer. Man, can that guy hit.
  19. It says Lucroy grounded into a DP and then I'm not sure. Awesome website! Gomez must have scored on the DP and then Overbay must've struck out or something. I donno, Overbay is our cleanup hitter? God help us...
