  1. Way off base. Kudos to your simple solution to maintain your pastime.
  2. If this is the Cameron that Melvin was anticipating at offer sheet time, does it really make sense to have him batting 7th and not protecting Hart? EDIT: Oh, and if anyone suggests that Boogie is "more comfortable batting 7th" so why switch it up?... well, save it. I don't speak Yostian.
  3. Is there ANY pitcher in the league - from Aardsma to Zito - that will tell a manager "I can't get this guy" or "I can't go anymore"? No. Every single pitcher in the league will stand on the hill with the ball when the manager comes out and - leaning on ego - lobby to stay in. Just because CC has established that he can go 9, Ned believes he must go 9. 7 would have been plenty [Monday].
  4. I apologize Mods... I am usually one level headed dude. and in 2 1/2 years here I have never... I have NEVER... well, I'll just look at this called strike. Criminal. Travesty. Unconscionable. Asinine. Leave it to Ned Yost to turn an asset (extra day off) into a hazardous liability used to justify complete doltery. Hard to believe it; but yeah, unhappy after a win.
  5. regardless of score: TRAVESTY. unbelievable
  6. hopefully another at-bat is just CC's reward for this game and pitching the 9th is not even in the equation. CC does love to hit afterall.
  7. This has CC and Benny lined up for games 1 & 2 at Wrigley, on 5 days rest each. Me gusta mucho. If I have it right, this also has ol Sheetsypoo penciled in for game #162. I am convinced that game won't determine the playoffs, but if it does I am willing to have a crow barbeque and change my 11-month-old signature during the IGT that day.
  8. Here's my 2 cents and some of y'all with a longer tenure on the board have heard this before: I have no problem with the advertising (is fretting and / or a letter writing campaign going to do anything about it?), but I do have a problem when the quality of the product suffers because those in the ivory tower are squeezing blood from a stone. #1: Miller Park's original design called for a unique, full service, cradle-to-cradle brew pub restaurant in left field. Think Milwaukee Ale House or Rock Bottom Brewery. I saw the drawings; hell, I estimated them. There was even going to be the big grain hoppers suspended in the Bernie's Chalet area that contained the hops, malts, etc. used for making beer at the microbrewery. Can you imagine one of Braun's more prodigious home run blasts gonging off of the malt hopper and leaving a dent? #2: How long did the manually operated out-of-town scoreboard last before giving way to the digital light up version? The modification of right field (ridiculous distance) to include the Mercedes Benz picnic area chain link fence eliminated the space for the scoreboard. Now with only half of the outfield wall to work with, you need to do it digitally so you can cycle through all the scores. What a tasteless debacle that actually has served to disrupt my viewing pleasure. Both of these "design" decisions increased the revenue stream via leases from national companies. Both of these decisions also downgraded the quality of the facility from 'unique baseball stadium' in the direction of 'homogenized corporate ribbon board NBA game' I'll stomach the advertising, but please preserve the identity and atmosphere.
  9. Here is what I don't understand, and what I bring up to Cubs fans: The Cubs (NL) rank #1 - R #1 - BA #1 - OBP #1 - SLG #1 - OPS, #2 - ERA #1 - BAA #2 - K How is it that you are ONLY up 4.5 games when the team chasing you ranks 6, 11, 8, 2, 4, 3, 6 and 8 respectively across those eight categories? The delta is gigundous. Is Ned Yost a genius? The Cubs should have an AL-West-Angelian type lead. OR - Have we been overachieving and due for a crash when a string of 1-run games goes the other way?
  10. So, someone asked me yesterday how many more wins the Brewers would need to make the playoffs. (to figure out how many puzzle pieces of removable dress to put on the cardboard cutout of Wendy, of course) I hemmed, hawed, mulled it over. I caught Jason Stark on the radio singing the sweet music of - not only - expecting the Crew to make it, but stating that they were constructed for the playoffs better than any NL team. Hemming, hawing & mulling - realizing 40 games left with 70 wins already... is it possible that going .500 to the tape and getting 90 wins would not be enough? I cannot imagine only going .500 from here on out. And I also can't imagine 90 wins getting the wild card comfortably enough to set the rotation in games #161 and 162. SUPER bad time to catch the Dodgers.
  11. I guess a back handed compliment is still a compliment.
  12. I am convinced that... 8/22 - Bush 8/23 - Suppan 8/24 - McClung ...at home against the Pirates will occur. Putting CC and Ben 1 - 2 (on 7 rest) for the STL series, and again 1 - 2 (on 5 rest) at Wrigley 6 series later.
  13. On Miller Park day games (this isn't the only criticism I can recall, though first "testimonial" by an umpire): "It was kind of hard to see the ball here," catcher Wil Nieves said. The Brewers "are used to it, but this was the first time I've played here in a day game. At night, you can see better. But day games? The umpire was telling me this was the worst place for day games, just because of the shadows. But, it was just a little bit hard. Their pitcher today, he was throwing fastballs right by us, and they were, like, 85 or 86" mph. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/11/AR2008081101548.html I'll take that homefield advantage... and schedule Soup for any day game on the schedule.
  14. this is true. great day to be a fan. TCB. I don't think anyone would create a "Games that didn't get away" thread or something similar. It would be very easy to say - hypothetically - that people would look back, after - again, hypothetically - missing the playoffs, at this series had we split it and assigned a disproportionate amount of blame. I'm proud of the boys for stepping on the throats of the weakling, not playing down to their competition (errors notwithstanding) and keeping the eye of the tiger!
  15. could not help but think: http://thumbnail.search.aolcdn.com/truveo/images/thumbnails/D1/B1/D1B19CFF436325.jpg Yeah, yea-ah!
  16. 58 - 59 LA Dodgers... 47.5% to take the division 58 - 59 Houston Astros... 00.1% to take the division Criminy.
  17. Good thing the bullpen is rested, Sheeter is going tonight. Dear Ben, By the time you read this note, I'll be gone. I'm leaving you so you can spend more time with April - she treated you much better than I could ever. Sincerely, July
  18. Someone check the fine print of Craig's contract... perhaps there is a DE-escalator clause if he reaches a certain percentage of the team's snaps. i mean, uh, at-bats.
  19. Free Mike Rivera! Encage Craig Counsell!
  20. http://www.pubdef.net/uploaded_images/lu_10_barricades-762294.jpg Moderators, are you geared up and ready?
  21. Hmmmmm, 1) The best pitcher in the National League against a John Doe 2) Slept in their own beds after a day off versus a team that played a double header, then traveled east 3) a .582 home team winning % versus a .356 road team winning % 4) the opportunity to gain a game in one of the two races the Crew is in. Why does this feel like a 11 - 3 Nats win to me?
  22. I would rather have Benny's A game for 10 starts than his B game for a rented mule riding 11 starts. Extra recuperation time; it's not like Ben pitched 250 innings last year like CC. I am curious as to what everyone's spreadsheet looks like, becuase I am obsessed with mine. After running it again, I am convinced more than ever that McClung should get a spot start 24-Aug versus Pittsburgh. reason 1: sets up CC and Ben to go in St. Louis on 7 days rest each reason 2: after each of them starts 3 more times on regular 4 days rest, they would then be scheduled to go in the first 2 games of the Wrigley series - on 5 days rest each reason 3: (after that series, CC goes on regular 4 @ CIN, while Ben goes on 5 v PIT) - this sets up CC in game #160 and Ben in game #162 v Cubs on regular rest. The only downside - in exchange for pacing their arms - is that they each get 10 starts each instead of 11. I am more than okay with this.
